.SPC subtitle file - can it be used in any way?
I have a project for which I've been given the subtitles as a .SPC file which DVDSP does not recognise - can this be converted to a useable subtitle format?
If the subtitle data is plain text, you can use a combination of table-to-text and find-and-replace in word to get the data into the correct 3-column format. There is a sample subtitle text file in the DVDSP manual for reference.

I had files stored on a hard drive that were not on my Mac. I used the hard drive for my first Time Machine back up, but it was not enough hard drive space to finish. Now those stored files are gone. Is there any way I can recover them? No, they were not part of previous Time Machine backups, and I have checked both the hard drive the documents were lost on and the new one that I now use for backups. Any suggestions would be helpful, as the lost files are old pictures that are gone forever. :[ Thanks!
1. Yes, if both drives are formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
2. Reformat the drives if needed, open the Time Machine pane of System Preferences, and remove the drive with the pictures from the list of items set to be excluded.

IWork 08 Pages "The media file can't be used because it's corrupt"
I am creating a school Yearbook - lots of photos. Pages has been running really slowly and to add to my problems when I reopened my pages document, most of the pictures on the pages I worked on have been replaced by grey blocks with a question mark in it. I am not able to replace the grey blocks with the pictures that used to be in there as it gives me the error message "The media file can’t be used because it’s corrupt". However, the photos work perfectly well in other Pages documents and other programs such as preview, word and so on...
I am finding the whole experience of working on Pages very demoralizing. Any help out there?Hi naglechocolate
Welcome to the forum.
Pages is far from a professional DTP program and when you get down to some real world tasks does show more than a few rough edges.
I suspect you may have just pushed it too hard.
As Yvan says it includes the whole image in the document, unlike most DTP programs which work with links. So I would concentrate on not making those images too large.
With a school yearbook, the photos are usually one or 2 standard sizes and need to be printed at a finished resolution of 300dpi, so you can crop and size them before you import them to be most efficient.
*Preview .app* will do this for you for free but there are also 3rd part utilities that can make a much a set workflow out of this often tedious process.

I get the following message when I try to place a movie into my movie page in iWeb. "The image file can't be used because you don't have access priviledges or because it has no content or is corupted". I am using small 30 sec clips that I've imported into iPhoto from my digital camera. They are AVI files. I've place them before with no problem, this is new.
Any idea what's wrong and what I can do?
Dual 450 MHz PowerPC G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6)So it sounds like something about your iWeb installation got munged. Something used to work, but now it doesn't work anymore. So it must work somehow. Here are the suggestions that I give to people with these sorts of varied and nonspecific issues with iWeb. So without further ado...
1. Delete iWeb preference file at: YourHardDrive/Users/yourname/Users/Library/Preferences/"com.apple.iWeb.plist"
2. Delete iLife Media Browser preference file at: YourHardDrive/Library/Preferences/"com.apple.iLifeMediaBrowser.plist"
3. Repair startup disk permissions using Disk Utility
4. Reboot machine
5. Delete iWeb application (but keep a backup of the Domain file!) and reinstall iWeb 1.0 from original iLife'06 DVD or Recovery Disks and then update directly to 1.1.1 via Software Update.
These are the top 5 things that seem to garner some kind of positive results from people having similar problems. I know that you have already tried a couple things here, but heck, what do you have to lose? For the record, I doubt that it is your Canon camera. -
I have an Iphone 4, I have music files that appear on my phone that I want to delete, when I link it to my computer the songs on the phone will not appear in Itunes so I can delete them, Is there any way to delete these song off the phone without going through Itunes?
Nope, it either needs to be plugged in or turned on with the power button.
A replacement iPhone 4 is $149, but at least the whole phone is replaced. -
I forgot to save a file in Numbers. Is there any way I can possibly get it back?
I forgot to save a file in Numbers. Is there any way I can possibly get it back?
Do a search in Finder for Untitled.Numbers. If you find such a file, or some variation, try to open it and see what's there. That's if you never saved.
Mavericks is pretty good about autosaving, so you chances are not too bad. In the future though, never write a thing in a new document until you give it a name and a place.

Hello, I'm trying to convert my music to mp3 Version but it says that the file is protected. Is there any way I can convert it?
Only by burning the files to an audio CD and then ripping that back into iTunes.

I have been using the match for about 5 months and it's very cool to have all the tunes with me at all times. But, my ATT 'unlimited' data plan slows down after a certain point and I can't effectively stream the big files I uploaded to the cloud until it resets the next month. I get about 12-15 days of no problems and then the rest of the month I'm taking cd's in the car.
Help!Using iCloud Status you can see which Songs are uploaded. These can be placed in a playlist and saved to audio CD - in addition copy the playlist content to an open folder on your desktop.
Delete the Songs from your library & cloud; import the Songs as 256 AAC from CD; update iTunes Match.
At your discretion you can delete the local Songs once more and add back the original files from your desktop folder.
This way you have the original files for local playback and 256 AAC files in the cloud for download. -
Is there any way to recover a file if you have overwritten it?
When I do that: Pages>Revert to > I don't get a chance to "Browse all Versions" Instead it says, "no Document"

HELP!
I was showing a friend/client how to take a screenshot of a section of the screen (cmd+shift+4), but I accidentally pressed ctrl+cmd+4 and perhaps a few others (mistake due to using non-apple keyboard with mine), which reorganized her very cluttered but very purposeful desktop!
She was rather upset. It also placed all the files that wouldn't fit in a row beneath her hard-drive icon. Understandably, this is frustrating for her; but what made it worse is that a very important document (is it PDF, .Doc? I don't know...) is, she claims, in TEN PIECES! How is this possible?
I think those are just leftover pieces and the main file is there somewhere, but I haven't heard from her -- this happened yesterday afternoon -- and I don't know if she's even used the finder to locate it (does she remember the name of the file?) -- and now she's going to visit the Apple store, and hoping they can do something for this dilemma!
They can revert to a previous state, but then she might lose recent files.
Is there any way (even intensive) to undo this re-organization of her desktop?
What is the explanation of the important file splitting into ten pieces (apparently from accidentally re-organizing her desktop or pressing a combination of cmd, shift, ctrl, alt, and 4)? Is there any simple way to undo either of these? (I'd gladly suggest a program for her to use to combine pieces of a PDF file or images into a .doc, but at this point, understandably, she is wary of my help. I still want to know what's going on, nevertheless.)
Thank You All!No way I know of to undo an arrange. And I've never heard of files being broken into pieces, whether PDF, DOC, or other.

So, I just went into my iPhone notes (iPhone 4 iOS 7.0.4), and found that all my notes had been deleted. I did recdently change the mail account I was using, could that be the issue? I'm very worried as I had some bank details and other personal information stored in these notes. Is there any way I can select a specific stored backup to restore from?
Well, in iTunes, if you had not changed to sync notes to Outlook, that would answer that question. I sync my notes to my Outlook and have never had an issue. The only thing you need to watch is your archive setting. If you have notes set to archive after a certain amount of time, you will find that after non-use on the iPhone, they can seem to disappear. They will just not sync back, but are kept in the archive of Outlook. They are never deleted unless you actually delete them.
I'm glad you were about to find your notes. -
So on a trip to the states, I bought an ITunes gift card (well 45 dollars worth), took it home ( a 16 hour drive) just to see that it's 'Valid only in the US ITunes store'. Is there any way to redeem my money, or get a US account (I'm from Canada), because I'm not to keen on wasting 45 freaking dollars.
You can try to find someone in the U.S to give it or sell it to.
You cannot use it.
Sorry
