SPDIF cable transfer question

I want to transfer files from Audition to a sampling keyboard which samples in 16 bit.
My Adobe files are 32 bit, will this be a problem?
I was thinking use the digital out of my soundcard which is spdif to the digital in of my sampler, since this would preserve the signal better then analog, correct?  Or is their a greater chance of distortion using the digital cable?
Is the 32bit of Audition to 16bit of the sampler going to be an issue?

You aren't absolutely obliged to dither a 16-bit file - but almost certainly the original files in the sampler will be. And if you gave me the alternative of file where the reverb tail (or just the noise floor) cuts off with a sort of 'clonking' noise at -96dB or a dithered one that didn't do this, I'd go for the dithered one every time.
And if you are recording guitar samples, the noise floor will be higher anyway, so I wouldn't have thought this would be an issue. Anyway, I'd do the editing in Audition, dither the results and load them into the sampler like that, because the small potential increase in the noise floor will be nowhere in it compared to the other potential problems you'd have with undithered samples.
The main one of these would be that for each sample, the noise floor would be slightly different anyway - so when you re-recorded them you'd have undithered sounds at loads of different levels, and the resultant grunge would be pretty unpleasant. If noise really is an issue with any of the resultant tracks, I'd be more inclined to use Audition NR on the finished result than play about with the individual files. If it's just one group of files, then do a stem mix of them, and treat that separately, then reintroduce the result back into the mix.

  • Which Cable & Transfer Questions!

    Hi All,
I have a 15" Intel 2.2ghz MBP Tiger running 10.4.11 which I think has both Firewire 400 & 800 Ports? I will soon have a new 17" 2.8 UBMP which will be factory installed with Leopard and I would like to know which type of Firewire cable I need (400 or 800) and with how may pins so I can transfer everything over.
I guess I will be using Migration Assistant (my first time!) to move everything over to the new UBMP and read that one could also use a Ethernet Cable to do the transfer? Is that the same as Cat5e? Would there be any issues or problems using this option and which is better, faster and more preferable of the two?
I also have a cloned copy of my existing hard drive (with Tiger) on a Western Digital Passport USB hard drive - can I just connect that up to the new Leopard UBMP to a USB port and transfer everything over?
    Many Thanks,
    Suave!

    Hi,
Thanks for the help! I just checked and both units have Firewire 800 ports so I have ordered a 9 Pin to 9 Pin Firewire 800 lead. I just got a reply from Super-Duper regarding transferring everything over from the cloned external hard-drive with Tiger to the new UMBP with Leopard and this is what they said:
+"Assuming you've made a proper "Backup - all files" with "Smart Update", when you get your new MBP, it'll ask you if you want to "Copy from another Mac" the FIRST time you start it up.+
+Point that either at the original Mac or the SuperDuper! full backup volume and it'll bring in your applications and data, and leave Leopard in place."+
I know lots of folks here use Super-Duper so I am wondering which is the best, easiest and safest way to transfer everything over - the Migration Assistant option or the Super-Duper one?
    Thank You,
    Suave!

  • SPDIF Cable For DVD Dri

I bought an digital spdif cable for my dvd optical dri've, it has a connector that's female at both ends, for a two pin connection , going ifrom the dvd player to my sound card !!? MY question is this , it seems pretty sraight foward but i don't know if my card has the connector for it , from what i can?see from the pictorial !!? my card is the ?x-fi xtreme gamer SB073X Series . just thought?I ?would try this , even though the sound I'm getting from games, and movies is fantastic in analog
!!! Do you have any advice for me ? Thanks for any help !!? Blackhawkxlh

Hello, I looked this up in the Online Manual. When you want to use the X-fi to decode the spdif stream from your software dvd player. Goto the settings page in your software dvd player and select passthru or somesuch option under your audio settings. It could be called Spdif passthru or it could be similar to mine in the ati version of the decoder software it offers to downmix or you can forward it to some option ati has. when I chose the 2nd option it simply passed the stream to the X-fi. The high speed sound of a DVD player on full tilt was elminated and the X-fi was doing all the decoding as if it was connected with a Spdif cable.
That said I would personally like to know if it is possible to use the cable at all. I hope this hel

... I dont have iMovie and cant find a version that works with my older OS.
The camera videos are on a Digital Video Cassette tape, not a card.
Use iMovie with your Firewire (IEEE 1394) connected mini DV camcorder.
iMovie 6 HD is part of iLife '06, works great with older miniDV camcorders,
and is compatible with your Mac OS X 10.5.8.  You will need to install
iMovie '06 before you can use the downloadable latest update from the link.
If you cannot find it locally, this old version is available on-line, including Amazon.com.

  • Apple video cable technical question

I can not seem to find the answer to this question anywhere... I have the Apple component AV cable and the Composite video AV cable. I have measured the resistance of all the pins and compared to the posted pinout web sites.
I am confused about the pin 21 details (not sure if this has been updated)
I measure 500k pin 21 to ground for both cables
the composite video line comes from pin 8, the component connectors go to 8, 9 and 10.
My question should be clear by now, If the resistance on pin 21 (which should define what accessory is connected) how does the iPhone (and iPad) know which type of video to output ???
I am an engineer and this is driving me nuts, maybe i am missing something..
thx in advance for any details.

    Hello,
I've also tried to watch my video's on my iPod Video 5th generation on television, but it won't work. I can't see anything. On the iPod I've made the correct settings. I've used Apple's audio-video cable for an iBook and put it on a scart adapter and connected it to my television, because my television doesn't have AV output. It won't work. Any suggestions anybody?

  • 970a-g46 am3+ cable connection questions

    Hi all,
I'm a first time computer builder and am in the process of building my own rig. I have MSI AMD 970a-g46 am3+ mobo and cool master elite 431 case.
    1) I can't seem to find where on the mobo to connect the speaker for the post beep test. I've tried to look through the manual and watch videos but all the videos skip ahead of the internal cable connections to them being done.
2)the cool master 431 case comes with HD and AC 970 audio, which do I use with the MSI AMD 970a-g46 mobo? I think its the HD from what I've seen/read in videos.
3)I would like to do the test boot with the mobo, the gpu, psu on the monitor and post beep before mounting to make sure I connected it all correctly at least once but I don't know where to connect the speaker (question1). Also I don't know where to "short" the mobo before connecting the psu and plugging it in to "turn on" the mobo for the test. I saw a video by newegg of building a computer where he did the same.
That's all the questions at the moment since I'm taking a break. Any help would be majorly appreciated. Thanks.

ok attached the Front panel connectors diagram below! just find the missing pins and count to locate pins! (the name of the headers should be marked JFP1 and JFP2)

connect the HD audio one not the AC97 from your case to the audio header!

and as for shorting the board to power it up to test it works thats on JFP1 on pins 6+8 just short those 2 and it should start up!
if you do start it outside your case use a piece of plain cardboard under the mother board to isolate it from shorting out on anything!

  • Log and transfer question

OK I was wondering if when I import AVCHD from my hard drive if the original files would be damaged at or removed at all. I just had a slight issue, and was wondering if that would be a problem. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

my apologies. I have a 750 gb. usb harddrive that I use for storage, and a Sony Handycam hdr-cx7. I thought that maybe I could drag all of the contents from my memory stick into a folder and import them as needed using log and transfer. What made me ask the question was basically what is the transfer part. I'm sorry if I'm wasting your time. Anyway, I did that with some test AVCHD video and it came out OK, but tonight when I went to import it again, because I didn't save my work (I was just messing around) it gave me a message that says, ""08:5:29" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media." This may be my procedure problem, but it is nice to have the storage option. Thanks again.

  • Ethernet connection from iMac to pc transfer question

I'm going to be getting an iMac shortly.
I currently have a Windows PC.
I'm sure I read somewhere that its possible to connect a Mac and a Windows PC together with an Ethernet cable.
What I'm wanting to do is,  rather than transfer my music, photos, documents and other stuff to an external hard drive (plus the time it would take to copy the stuff to the external hard drive) and then copy the stuff onto my iMac, I was wondering if there is a way of been able to connect the iMac and the PC together with an Ethernet cable and  have both the machines switched on and basically use the Mac to access the hard drive on the Windows PC to then copy the desired information over to the iMac.
I know there is a Migration Assistant application, but I would rather just copy the stuff over that I'm wanting, then at least I know what's been copied over.
If its possible to connect a Mac and a Windows PC together with an Ethernet cable and from there access the information on the Windows PC's hard drive and copy it over to the Mac. If its possible, could someone provide me with the instructions on how to do this please?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the help everyone, really appreciate the help
I already have an external hard drive that would hold everything. Its just I thought it would take a while to copy the stuff over from my Windows PC onto the EHD, then copy the stuff back off of it to my iMac, and thought if I could have linked the iMac and the PC together, the copying would only need to be done once.
I had an idea yesterday. I have a 3.5 inch hard drive caddy/enclosure. My Windows PC is very easy to get into has its got a full side access panel which removes with two thumb screws. I thought I could remove the drive from my Windows PC, place it in the caddy/enclosure and then connect the caddy/enclosure to my iMac, I could then simply access the information and copy it over to my iMac. This would allow me to copy only the required stuff, I would only be copying stuff over once (rather than twice if I were to copy from my PC to a EHD and then to my iMac). The drive would be in the NTFS format (as its been used on a Windows system) but from my understanding Mac can read drives formatted in this, it just cannot write to it without third party software. Would the removing drive, placing it in a caddy/enclousure idea work OK?
Yes that is a great idea, I'd recommend going that route!

  • File-transfer question?

Hi. Ive just gotten an imac G5 and am getting ready to transfer some info from my old G3 (10.2.8) to the new mac. I'm a bit confused regarding the methods of transfer. My understanding is that the 2 most common methods are to either use a firewire cable with apples "set-up" or "migration" assistant.....or.......use a ethernet crossover cable. I have both these cables but am wondering which method would best suit my purpose. If possible, I'd like to transfer my e-mails over from the older mac as well as my Internet Explorer "favorites' however noticed that int. explorer is'nt even installed on the new mac so wondering what to do? Secondly....wondering if its possible to transfer an earlier version of imovie over (imovie2) and have the 2 versions exist on the same mac (if so would it just be easier to install from the CD)..........and lastly what about 3rd party software....better to try to transfer via cables or install from a CD? Thanks for any advice regarding this

    Bruce,
Your best bet is to use the firewire connection and 'target disc mode'. Connect the two computers and hold down the 'T' key on start up of the old Mac and the hard drive will appear on the desk top of your new one. In most cases it is best to install third party software from a CD/DVD to avoid any chance of corrupt or missing files. With iMovie2 you can have the two versions running on the same Mac, although, the difference between IM2 and IMHD are like chalk and cheese. Create an archive of iMovie2 on the old mac and drag it onto the new one after target disc is engaged. Open it up and drop it into your apps folder. I'm not sure about your IE favorites. You may be able to download and install IE, but it probably is not a good idea as it is no longer support by Mac. I have transfered bookmarks by copy/pasting the addresses to an MS Word document and emailing the document. Then just open each address an add it to your Safari favorites. There is probably an easier way to do it, but it works for me.
    Hope this helps.

  • KANBAN Stock Transfer Question.

    Hi All,
I am using kanban stock transfer stratergy(Mvmt type -311) to transfer my stock from one Sloc to another Sloc. I have given one fixed quantity and everytime that quantity is tranferred between sloc's. Now, My question is can give a tolerance limit to that kanban Quantity.
For example, If my kanban quantity is 500 Pc's can I provide a tolerance limit of 10% so that I can transfer the stock anywhere between 450 and 550. Please let me know if this functionality is possible.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sushil

    Hi,
As per standard SAP Practice , there is no provision of adding tolerance to Kanban Qty but you can replenish 450 /550 by manually editing the Kanban quantity in Kanban Correction. You can do Kanban correction in PK31n or directly by right click & selecting Kanban correction in Kanban Board screen.
Other way is you can use Event driven Kanban for one time replenishment of 450/550 so that you need not disturb the main Control cycle of Classical Kanban.
Even as per my knowledge, there is no BADI for Kanban which can help your requirement. So pls try above.
    Hope this helps.
    Revert if still any doubt.
    Regards,
    Tejas

  • IPhone app that allows cable transfer of files and viewer feature

    Hi Guys,
    Now I'm really getting desperate...
Does anyone know of an app that allows you to transfer files to your iPhone via the USB cable and has a partner iphone app that allows you to view the files.
I'm looking specifically for PDF and Html viewer.
I can't use the WiFi and can't download using 3G...too expensive.
I've tried a few apps thus far but they allow you transfer files to locations that the iphone apps cannot access.
    Kind regards,
    Neelan
    Kind regards,
    Neelan

There used to be an app that did this called "FileAid". The app was free, but to use it you need to purchase an app called "DiscAid" from the developer. It allowed for file transfers between iPhone and computer using a USB cable or wifi. Recently, the app was changed AT APPLE'S REQUEST to eliminate the USB functionality. Why? I have no clue, other than having this feature took away from Apple's MobileMe file transfer functionality. I did NOT accept the upgrade. Below is an email I received from the developer.
What really irks me is that I paid for the DiscAid app. By removing this functionality, Apple has ripped me off. Fortunately, the developer has more integrity than Apple has.
"As a DiskAid user, you might be using FileAid to view files on your device.
If this is your case you are maybe aware already: we had to upgrade FileAid 1.4 to 1.5 and we changed the name to FileApp, incidentally.
The USB connectivity within FileApp was removed and we did not want that: it was not our choice but the consequence of a decision taken by Apple, nor did we wanted to have to rush to release it.
Besides, all iPhone Apps supporting the USB file transfer will be affected by that.
We were very upset about Apple's decision not to let our users enjoy the simplicity and efficiency of USB file transfer, but we had no choice as you can imagine. We are very sorry about that.
DiskAid (USB transfer tool) is still perfectly functional for file storing and iPhone/iPod Touch filesystem access but FileApp won't let you view your files on the device.
It is probably pretty uncommon, but we would like you NOT to UPGRADE to FileApp in the App Store automatically, but to read the following carefully before:
    Why Should you Upgrade:
If you have a jailbreak on your device
If you are a FileAid user only using WiFi connection for transferring files - WiFi connectivity issue fixed
    Why You Should NOT Upgrade:
If you are using FileAid on a device without jailbreak in conjunction with DiskAid - USB no longer supported
If you have upgraded on your iPhone by mistake (or you missed the upgrade information notice prior upgrading on your iPhone) you have the ability to downgrade to FileAid if you haven't upgraded within iTunes on your desktop and you haven't performed a sync!
    To do so:
1 - Check that you have FileAid in your iPhone apps within iTunes on your computer
2 - Delete the FileApp app from your iPhone (or iPod Touch)
3 - Select FileAid within the app tab in iTunes and press sync
If a message appears warning that you have a more recent version of this app on the device, accept: it will install FileAid instead of FileApp
If you have upgraded to FileApp directly in iTunes on your computer, delete it before sync (if applicable) and the FileAid app will be copied back onto iTunes at next sync.
It is a real issue for us, as the ability to browse files transferred via USB within our iPhone app FileAid was a great feature within the DiskAid program we will sure suffer from that - but we won't let our loyal customers take the blame.
We would naturally refund users that claim for, even beyond our refund policy (up to 60 days).
Also if you had a good time while the trick lasted, or if you feel any sympathy for us and you think that your purchase could subsidize the development and maintenance of the free version of the FileAid/FileApp and you do not request a refund, we would thank you in advance for your support!"

    for my HP dv9907ca laptop
i found the article on setting up the router with a dynamic IP here, just have a few questions before i get started.
the first time i set up the router i installed LELA as well, and had that screw up on me within 24 hours [said to check the log file for errors, i did but had no idea what i was looking at =3] so i reset, uninstalled, and unplugged everything and set the router up again w/out LELA. worked fine for a while, but after a while i could only get limited access [no net]. i just said f it and went onto something else, then came back a few hours later and it was working again! but now we're back to limited access so something is wrong.
it works fine plugged in with the cable from the modem [what i'm using now] so it has to be the router. i tried every Windows Network Diagnostic option and still no dice.
1st observation - i have to redo everything again awwwww **bleep**.... =3
1st question - finding the MAC address - it describes how to on 98 and XP but not Vista, will the XP directions work in Vista?
2nd question - i don't need to run the setup disc at all now? just follow the directions?[i'm just so paranoid that i'll do something wrong...]
any other comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated

You do not need to run the setup disk...you can configure your router manually.

  • Ipod transfer questions

please excuse my ignorance....I have an Ipod shuffle and an Ipod mini (both are over 2 years old). Can I transfer Ipod mini music from my library onto my shuffle? My ex-sister-in-law has my downloads from my shuffle on her computer and my brother accidently erased my music trying to put more music on it. Next question, my brother has an new version Ipod (not nano) and I made a playlist from songs that I like on his Ipod. Can I transfer a playlist from his computer or Ipod to my Ipod without erasing my own music on my Ipod? (not music purchased from Itunes store). Again, not techno savy...excuse the ignorance.

When I set up sync movies, does it copy every movie from my movie folder to my ipod?
Not if you choose to sync selected movies. There should be options for you when you choose to auto sync movies.
Do these ipods come in window format?
Yes. For quite a while now all new iPods come Windows formatted out of the box.

  • Cable length question

My office building has two floors...the bottom floor is where my boss' office is, as well as a meeting table with a 42" TV mounted on the wall. This is where my boss looks over my videos and dailies (sp?). My desk is upstairs. Instead of wasting time compressing video and building Audio/Video TS folders and burning DVDs every time he wants to make a change, I want to just do external video out of FCP and into the TV downstairs. Make sense?
My question is, I'm going to need about 75-100 feet of cable (component, I think, cuz I'm going through my DSR-11) to connect to that TV. Is there an easier way? I know it's not going to look pretty because it's component video, but do they have S-VHS cables that long? I don't have anything better as an out on the DSR-11.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jonathan

    Thanks everyone for the ideas...
I guess I'm trying to by-pass the whole "export it to xxx media and bring it somewhere." As I'm sure many of you have experienced in your own jobs, I have a boss with little to no patience. He watches something and says, "Let me see the raw interview" or "What happens when we switch these clips around." He got this big TV in the meeting room and wants to watch everything from there (he's a bit too lazy to walk up the friggin stairs to my computer). So instead of wasting 20 minutes exporting a 55 minute interview through compressor, building the DVD in DVDSP, then burning it onto disc, I'm thinking it would be easier to play it in FCP (since it's already captured) and using the TV downstairs as the external monitor. And the yelling up from another floor isn't a concern...he can just talk on our intercom system through the phones if there's a problem.
As for putting it out to tape, we only have one DSR-11...and not much of a budget to get another...again, I'm trying to (hopefully) bypass any exporting/putting out to tape of any kind and save some time. I'm sure I'm not the first to try this and fail (I mean, exporting just comes with the job, right?), but a guy can hope...

  • Syncing iPad & iPod...  device USB port cable connector question

I have an iPad & iPod 4th gen.... both syncing cables look identical..no identity markings on either. I'm not sure now which came with which device.
QUESTION: Are the syncing/charging ( know I can't charge iPad off USB port) cables given with purchase interchangable for these 2 devices?
    Thanks!

Yes, the cables work the same. It is an Apple proprietary 30 pin connector.
The chargers are different. The iPhone/iPod charger is 5 watt. The iPad charger is 10 watt. But you can use the iPad charger with iPhones/iPods because it is self limiting.
