SPDIF DTS + Analog stereo

Hello folks!
I need my pc to output multichannel DTS sound on the SPDIF, while at the same time output analog stereo from the same?source?when i watch movies or listen to music.
Is this possible?
Is any creative-soundcards able to do this?
Maybe dual soundcards?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I can't be sure about other CLs soundcards, but my Audidy 2 outputs over spdif and analog at the same time, even while using the dts encoder. Both output 5. though because you can't set individual speaker setups for analog and digital.
Of course you could always go about it in reverse.
Decode your DD/dts using osftware decoders and output that over analog, and without either the dts or dolby decoders running your spdif will always output a stereo signal.

  • X-fi, spdif, dts & dd5.1 - messed

    hi!
i am a little bit messed up with all these sampling rates and freq's.
i have xfi elite pro, connected via spdif to denon receiver capable of dts and dolby digital.
if i use entertainment mode, then i can watch dvd movies normally (with dolby digital as well using ac3filter). also i can listen to audio .ac3 files. however, opening dts-cd with creative mediaplayer (the only one that doesnt make "shhhh") produces sound, which is 0% faster than the original recording. i guess it's due that it's 44. khz (not 48khz like .ac3).
i can switch to audio creation mode, tick bit-matched playback and choose 44. as master sampling rate. now dts-cd plays at fine speed, however .ac3 is slower 0%
is there any way to have both formats play normally without having to switch between master sampling rates? it's quite annoying. since it can play both normally in different settings can i "tell" it to "look" at stream frequency and choose the proper setting?
if i get it right, then maybe some asio drivers might help? i tried reclock in kernel mode, it produces just noise.
    thanks in advance.
    nick

If you can try to play DTS's CD in WinDVD - it has the capability to decode DTS software OR to send the signal for decoding to the soundcard (see Audio Output Configuration) - you can see if is still a difference.

  • SPDIF and Analog Speakers

I must not be understanding SPDIF properly. I thought that was a digital signal. Many people using Audigy cards have been making the SPDIF connection thier default to eliminate buzzing in Windows 7. When I do this, I get no sound, in Vista or Windows 7, but I have analog speakers on an Audigy 4, so this is what I expected. Am I missing something? How are these people getting sound when they select SPDIF out? They have analog speakers too.

It may because you're using Win 7 x64.
The Audigy's spdif doesn't work in x64 OS's at the moment...
Doesn't matter whether it works or not, he said he has analogue speakers and gets no sound when he sets it to SPDIF. Wonder why that is
momalle you want to use SPDIF you need to use digtial speakers (which is an oxymoron as the only thing digital about them is the connection) that use a digital connection via SPDIF.

  • I need to conect my 2nd generation apple tv to an old analog stereo. What is the best way?

So, I have a brand new 2nd generation apple tv, a brand new projector and an old analog receiver. I want to be able to play music off of the apple tv without turning on the projector and so am trying to figure out the best way to connect the ATV to the receiver. 2nd generation only has an optical audio out. The cheapest option I have found is a Digital to Analog converter that costs $90. If you add in the wires it costs as much as the ATV! Kind of annoying as now I see the first generation had analog outputs.
Just wondering if anyone had any other solutions or suggestions. Anyone done this?
    Thanks!

  • Analog stereo audio transfer to CD

(Why cannot I get a simple answer from Apple?) All I want to do is record some analog audo cassettes to CD. Apparently I must import the analog source to the G5, then drop it on to the CD. I cannot find out if Garage Band can do this EASILY or if some other software would do it for me. What is the best way to do this? The only editing I would be doing would be to eliminate dead space between numbers.
    Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

My preference would be an audio editor rather than GB.

  • Solution for Analog Stereo System

I have been a Mac user for years. I currently have a Macbook Pro and have had it hooked up to my wireless network using the Airport Express. Due to a change with my VoIP carrier, I decided to get the Time Capsule. Everything is working just great, except I have no way of listening to iTunes through my stereo any longer.
With the Airport Express, I plugged a monster cable into the back of my receiver and voila! However, there is no connection on the Time Capsule. Does anyone have a solution for me?
    Thanks!

That makes sense; but it's not working. Perhaps I have something connected incorrectly? Cable modem in from cable. Then I have the Time Capsule. Off of there I have the VoIP connected to the phone and then cable connected to the AirPort Express. The AirPort Express just keeps blinking yellow and won't recognise the network. What am I doing wrong? I feel like a complete idiot!

  • Hookup to analog stereo system - no right channel output

I am using the 1/8" stereo to RCA adapter audio cable to hookup my Audigy 2 Platinum to a Sony amplifier/receiver to play through my Bose 30 speakers.
I get stereo seperation when I play a cassette through this same amplifier and I have tried the tape input for the soundcard, but still get no right channel, but hear the left channel in both speakers.
I hear the stereo signal fine when listening through headphones plugged into the i/o module. Something is amiss at the soundcard's # output, I think. I have tried multiple adapter cables and rca cables. I have also tried all available inputs on my amplifier and all available outputs on the soundcard and i/o module.
It seems to be the soundcard. What do you think?

The amp is only receiving the left channel which is the default mono channel. I assume the amp is not switched to play mono and is doing this automatically by default. I do not know what inches are but I assume you mean a 3.5mm connector to RCA converter. 3.5mm connectors are available in both mono and stereo, which do you have?
Are you getting any signal from the right channel from the soundcard, you can check this by unplugging the left (white) RCA cable while leaving the right plugged in and listen for sound.

  • Pulseaudio update: built-in analog stereo no sound

    Hello,
Since I've updated pulseaudio, sound no longer plays on my default line-out speakers. Normally I have two sound devices hooked up: line-out and a wireless headset. Using pavucontrol, I can still switch to the headset and sound works perfectly, but my speakers get nothing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

It might be the kernel (I had a similar problem, except with headphones instead of speakers).
My headphones were different in that I could (barely) hear audio, but I was not able to hear anything through my external speakers.
    Try running the following script:

    INSTALLCOMMAND+=" ${CACHEDIR}/${i}-${ARCH}.${EXT}"

  • How to improve iTunes sound quaility through analog home stereo?

The core of my home stereo system is an old NAD 7140 stereo receiver and I really like the sound. I have set up a dedicated laptop (a bottom-end Lenovo Ideapad) that I just keep next to the stereo and use it as a storage device/glorified mp3 player. I keep all my "second tier" music there -- the music where I can live without a physical CD jewel case. I use a simple RCA/headphone y-cable to run from the Aux input in the back of the receiver to the headphone jack on the laptop.
The trouble is, the sound just isn't very good. It often sounds muddy and boomy with certain genres  -- old school rock n roll particularly. Hooking up my wife's MacBook Pro and using that as a player is an improvement, but it is still not 100%. My guess is that the soundcard on the Lenovo is just poor quality, while the soundcard on the MacBook is better, but that neither was really designed to interface that well with an analog stereo receiver.
So, I'm trying to figure out a way I can keep the NAD 7140 but get better sound out of my mp3 collection. And I don't want to spend an arm and a leg. I have heard that USB-based Digital Audio Converters may be the ticket -- something like the HRT Music Streamer II or the NuForce ICON. Is that a solution you folks  could recommend? Or is there another path I should take? BTW, I'm not a fanatic when it comes to sound quality. AAC is fine by me -- no need for FLAC or other lossless formats. I just want the sound routed through my laptop to come closer to the sound routed through the CD player. IF DACs only offer infinitesimal improvements, then I think I'll pass
I'd appreciate any insight you could give

No one listens to iTunes through an analog stereo????

  • X-Fi Simultaneous Digital & Analog out

On the X-Fi Xtreme Music, is there a way to simultaneously have both Digital coax output via the Flexijack port and Analog stereo output via the Line Out port.
I have found that I have to uncheck the "Enable Digital I/O" button in the "Advanced Control for Play Control" control panel for the Line Out port to work.
Is there a way to turn on and off with a hot key/keyboard shortcut the "Enable Digital I/O" button in the "Advanced Control for Play Control" control panel when using the X-Fi.

i have the same dilemma as http://www.yamaha-uk.com/av_amps_receivers/?product_id=4 and plan to buy the x-fi elite pro when its released in england sep 4th
i already have my audigy platinum ex connected to rx-v4600 via spdif out
sounds great on movies but the EAX game problem doesnt suit me very well seeing tho,i do watch movies on my pc but i play games more and have the problem of already having a zalman <FONT color=#c4d84>ZM-RSA headphone amp connected to the back of the audigy via analogue connections .
<FONT color=#c4d84>And i dont want to use the pre out on the amp for the headphones
    http://www.zalman.co.kr/images/produ...-RSA_ins_4.gif
how would i go about finding the right stuff ?
could somebody point me in the right direction for the parts/cables, i need for my audigy and a future x fi elite pro owner to get this card co-operating on ALL channels with my reciever in games while running the ZM-RSA headphone amp
and will it be safe to split the analogue connections to two outputs from the audigy and x-fi series?
could anyone tell me about the DTS 60 but i still will have the problem of splitting the analouges

  • Decoder DDTS-100 upmix problem w analog inputs

I've had the decoder for some time and it works fine with everything else (real sorry to see it's discontinued!!). But now I have a digital radio (WorldSpace.com with a Tongshi DAMB-R receiver) which outputs 2 channel stereo analog output, and the decoder only plays subwoofer, left, rt, and center channels in my 5.1 system -- i.e. there's no rear sound at all. Other analog stereo inputs to the decoder give me fine 5.1 sound. It seems to me, naive at these things as I am, that any 2 channel analog stereo should upmix to 5.1 like any other. But perhaps there's some funny bandwidth compression going on in the radio so it won't upmix to 5.1 There aren't any settings on the radio to adjust things that I can see.
Any ideas on a workaround or at least illuminate me why this might be/is happening?
    Thanks,
    BaliDave

First of all, the ddts-100, is just a 6.1 decoder, and doesnt really support 7.1.
To get sound through every speaker, you will need to activate the 6.1-7.1 upmix, via the upmix switch on the back of the subwoofer. Then the rear right speaker should play when the rear left speaker does, as the 6.1-7.1 upmix, splits the 6.1 signal, and makes it 7.1.
Also, for movies with 5.1 sound, like Dolby Digital or DTS, you will need to set the switch to 5.1-7.1, unless you want to upmix the 5.1 sound to 6.1 via DTS ES Matrix or Dolby Digital EX.
When connected to the soundcard via digital spdif, you will only get stereo sound, as long as the sound isnt in digital AC3 (dolby digital/dts), so to get true surround sound in games, you will need to connect via the switch box with a analog connection and bypass the decoder, by setting the switch to "PC".
But when wathing DVD's, I recommend using the digital connection. (You can allways use the analog connection though, but if you do, the soundcard will do the decoding, and this can cause some quality loss at times.)

  • SPDIF-In not working. Vista 32b

Well... This makes for post #3 in the last 24 hours... My new problem is getting my SPDIF-in working with surround sound?on my X-Fi Fatalty (the full set with front panel and remote) while running Vista Ultimate 32bit. I tried going into the Audio console, but it's no real use. I set the SPDIF-in to default in the Windows mixer, but the Audio console won't give me the options it used to about SPDIF DTS settings like it did in XP, making stereo sound all that will work... So my Xbox 360 can't send 5. to it, I have to set it to stereo. What should I do?

Well basically it is possible, and I've found this out. Apparently Dell released a driver or something that allows it to work, but then only if you install a 3rd party modified xp version of the creative suite. I don't remember where I found it, but it was through google... Using some term including x-fi, dts, and vista.... Can't seem to find it now. Anyway, it had a download for the whole creative suite that was modified from the xp version for Vista, however it was buggy as hell, caused driver issues and blue screens, and ended up causing me to have to reinstall Vista altogether again. In other words, it's possible, but I don't recommend it until it's officially supported... Don't know when this will be yet... *crosses fingers*
Luckily I've got a dual OS system with XP too, and I switch to that when I want to use my Xbox 360... However due to Microsoft also being terrible in that department... I now get entertainment off of its 3 red lights... (For those of you who don't know, 3 red lights = hardware error. Sending into microsoft for repair typically is a 2 month process... I'm still waiting on my prepaid shipping box to arri've and it's been 4 days... Will be a similar wait to get it to them, 4-6 weeks for them to actually repair, and another week or so to get it all shipped back). Although even when the console worked, my dsl modem sometimes cut out when playing on Xbox li've and dropped signals, reported errors, etc.
What is with the companies producing technology nowadays? I just want to play Gears in 5. on Xbox li've... *cries*Message Edited by Supercoolyo on 07-22-20070:54 AM

  • I hear my rearspeaker in the front (spdif) - Whats wrong???

    Hi,
mein Problem ist folgendes. Meine Boxen sind per spdif angeschlossen. Ich hre beim Creative-Boxentest, die Rearspeaker auf meinen Frontspeaker. Also z.b. "hinten Rechts" hre ich vorn rechts.
Wo kann ich das deaktivieren ohne die Rearspeaker zu deaktivieren, da diese ber Analog weiterlaufen sollen.
    Erog was mache ich falsch?
    Das ganze ist Windows 7
my problem is this. My speakers are connected via spdif. I hear the Creative-box test, the rear speakers on my front speakers. So for example "Rear Right" I hear the front right.
Where can I turn off without the rear speakers turn off, as this will continue for Analog?
    Eroge what I'm doing wrong?
The whole thing is Windows 7
    Greetings & Thanks

    Hi Zez

  • Joe Meek Twin Q Pre-Amp and Elite Pro SPDIF/Digital input probs

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone can help. I've just purchased a Joe Meek Twin Q Pre-Amp and I specifically bought it for a new Rode mic I've just got and it needed phantom power. I also paid a little extra for the digital 'outs', thinking I could take an optic or SPDIF out into the Elite Pro breakout box. The problem is, is that digital is not recognised at all - in Audio Codes it states it's an invalid signal. However, SPDIF is recognised saying it's a stereo signal at 48,000hz, but is only being 'heard' in my right channel.
I have tried the line out into Line In 3, and there's no problem there. Joe Meek representative said it should be working as long as the bit match is the same in both units, which as far as I know is. Am I missing something here? I'm awaiting Creative to get back as it seems to me to be a breakout-box hardware problem, but I could be missing something?
Does anyone have any experience and/or advice/info?
    Thanks in advance

Well, since you're not getting response, let me see what I can do.
I think you're saying the optical connection isn't working, but the coax (SPDIF) one is working, and then you're only getting the mic signal on one channel. The second part is easy to explain, but I never remember the solution suggestions. TOSLink/SPDIF, essentially, are stereo signals, and your preamp is simply putting its channel 1 signal on one side and its channel 2 signal on the other. If you had a second mic connected to the other connector, you'd have one mic on the left channel and the other on the right channel. Basically, you need to treat it as a mono signal and then either pan it into the stereo field, or just duplicate (convert) it to stereo. I'm sure there are ways, but someone else needs to join in with some experience. I'm not sure, but it seems to me if, say, you've put the mic in the channel 1 connector, you could take the channel 1 (analog) output and patch it into the channel 2 line input, and your digital outputs would probably get you the mic signal on both sides.
On both devices, the TOSLink/SPDIF signals are, to the best of my understanding, basically the same thing in two forms. If one is working, than the other should be working too. That suggests to me either hardware brokenness in the preamp's optical out, or the Elite Pro's optical in. or a problem with the optical cable. CL's optical outs can be checked to see if they are putting out red light: if they aren't, there's a problem. That probably applies to the preamp, in this case. You can simply connect the Elite Pro's optical output to its optical input and record something from the digital input device. If that works, the cable and the digital input are probably OK, and it most likely the preamp's digital output is broken (although it could be a strange compatibility issue). If it fails, then it's most likely either a bad cable, or the Elite Pro's optical input is broken. Trying another cable, or some other piece of gear you have that outputs optical, ought to sort out which it is.

  • AC3/DTS audio on non-AC3/DTS system...

    Hello.
I'm running ATV OS 3.0.1 and recently I've been ripping my DVD/BR collection into iTunes. When I rip my DVD/BR discs, I include AC3/DTS audio. Right now I don't have a AC3/DTS speaker system, but since I plan to in the future, I figured it would be best to rip that way. I'm just using the analog stereo cables (right/left) from the ATV to my TV and assume there's some downconverting built into the ATV to handle this?
Anyway, the problem I'm having is that the voices when people speak are usually really hard to hear, while the rest of the sound (music, FX, etc.) is way loud. So, we end up cranking the volume when we can't hear people talking, then the next scene is some action scene and the volume is crazy loud.
Does anyone know what might be wrong/a possible solution?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    k.

    kristin. wrote:
Sorry, let me clarify, for the sake of these boards. These are home movies I'm ripping, not commercial. Since I assume I'm dealing with AAC stereo (since I'm getting sound and I don't have a system capable of AC-3) we can ignore DTS and maybe WC will go away.
i'm sure you will want sir winston on board, as he is very knowledgeable when it comes to TV matters
So — back to the issue, which I'll now consider a stereo issue. I'm using handbrake to rip my home movies, using one of the ATV presets. When I'm speaking in my home movies, my voice is low in the mix (it's not this way when I watch my home movie from the DVD I burned myself at home).
Any idea's why this would be?
i have similar experiences when playing movies through my TV alone (via HDMI). however, once audio goes via optical to my surround receiver, the output is just as it's supposed to be.
my guess is is you won't know until you get that speaker system. AFAIK, the TV is able to pass whatever audio it is receiving through via optical.
please correct me if i'm wrong !
