SPDIF-In on X-Fi Plati

Hey all.
I just bought an X-Fi Platinum. I have a PS2 hooked up to the SPDIF-In plug on my I/O module (and my tv card), and I was wondering how I could get the sound from there to play on my speakers. I expected it would happen automatically, but it isn't. I already set the "Rec" bar in the mixer to SPDIF-In. Is there something else I need to do?
adam

Never mind! I was getting sound, it was just very quiet. I turned the volume up and it works now.

  • DVD-Player SPDIF output to Audigy 2 Plati

    Hello together !
Because of the bad sound of my TV speakers I want to connect my DVD-player via SPDIF-Out to my Audigy (the player has no optical out).
But I only get some sound when I set the Player's output to "PCM". And then there's only stereo sound, no surround :-(
I can also set the output to "Data Output", what means that the player passes the signals without any changes.
But then there is no sound ! Is the Audigy unable to interpret this form of input ?
Can anyone tell me what's the right way to get surround sound via PC ?
    Bye,

I'm not sure if this is correct but..
Does the audigy 2 have a dolby prologic decoder? I know it has the dolby digital and dts. So if it doesnt, and I cant find where it does, then the sound blaster would process the audio just like standard stereo. The output from the TV line out jacks is probably prologic (analog) like mine. I have to run it through the home theater receiver which has a prologic decoder to give me the surround from TV shows.

  • Problem with SPDIF

    Hello All,
I have Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatalty Pro Series and Digital I/O module on my Windows Vista 32 bit machine. I have connected my speakers using 3 analog outputs of the sound card and they are working great and I am able to hear exact 5. sound, when I play 5. DVDs from Power DVD player.
Now, I have connected my external DVD player optical output to SPDIF input on I/O module. now, I am getting only front L/R speakers, instead of 5.. My DVD has 5. sound, but I am able to get only 2 channels.
Please let me know, what configuration I have to use to get 5..
    Thanks

hello, doesnt dans drivers or the dell driver trcik sort this out in vista now tho?
if ua search in the vista forum on here there are loads of threads about getting DD/DTS tab working again in vista 32-bit and some have even doen in 64-bit vsita but think more peeps haveing trounle in 64-bit vista than 32-bit vista....this is what i dotn get loads of peeps on here asking bout why only 2 speakers are working on this card and only workign throguth software when im dam sure dan got it workign again for all audigy cards and most xfi cards but some peeps have had trouble wit htese pro fatality gamer cards (which is same model as mine,no for fact that the plat gamer that coems with the module that ua put in to CD dri've area doesnt take this hack but think most other xfi cards can be made to run again and this is why creative look so bad as this bloke got it workign again so proved that vista CAN AND DOES support DD/DTS on some of its cards,as people have posted screen shots of the tab in place in vista...
hope this helps and go look in the vista threads ur find what im on abotu and some will help ua other than saying get a new card so at leats try this first before ua send it back or sale it...im waiting on my I/O module in post and if i cant get mine working as i've got same speakersas u to im gunan sale mine on ebay i think and go with what ever card can do HARDWARE decoding!!!!

  • Spdif out on windvd = no sound ! X

was trying to whatch a dvd the other night after burning it only to fin i get no sound !
windvd is set as per the instructions to pass the siganl to my soundcard (x fi plat) and the sound cards set to decode the signal but i get nothing at all, th eonly way i get sound is if i set windvd to analogue aka plain old stereo stanger still is if i play the vobs for the dvd of my hdd the sound works fine !

Not sure why your running into a prob. I just tested WinDVD here and am getting spdif out to SC just fine. Only issue I have is that allowing WinDVD to do the audio on a DTS disc the volume is louder than if spdif and let x-fi decode it. Any chance you have the decoder set backward for the card, ie set to Dolby bitstream out instead of built-in decoder? I know you said you had it right & sounds like you know what your doing but thats the only thing I can think of. Which version of WinDVD are you using?

  • MSI K8N Plat SLI Audio Problems

i just built my system and i am wondering what to do about the onboard audio. i have a old set of speakers from gateway that include a subwoofer and 2 front speakers that are digital i believe. i plug them into the yellow spdif out coaxial hole  (speaker plug dosent go in all the way) and i would get a lot of crackling and distortion so i took it out, i tried all teh other onboard audio and nothing works. i checked the digital output only option and unchecked it and nothing changes. now when i plug teh speakers in nothing works no sounds nothing. anybody else have these issues? im thinking about buying a sound card what do you guys think? ithough the soundblaster was supposed to be something great whats up with this? ive read a lot of issues regarding the onboard sound but cant seem to find ananswer.

The "distortion" as you describe it is static interference that goes through to the amplifier, due to the fact that you do not have a correct connection. If the connector does not fit, do not try to force it.
I would leave the case connectors unconnected for the moment, until you get sound through the spdif out. What type of connector is it to your speakers?
you are correct sir! i did some more research with different keywords after i posted my last post and realized that i needed a 1/8" stereo to RCA converter, so i hopped over to radio shack and purchased the little connector for 4 bucks and plugeed it in and walla. Thanks for the help though.
also to the guy with the link to the front case connections, thanks for the suggestion, i had all of my audio ports connected so that wasnt an issue, but thanks for pointing that out.

  • NF980--G65 SPDIF connector output level

This board only has a connector on the board and the backplate is "optional". So I was looking to make this up but in doing a bit of digging I read that that connector is often TTL 0/+5v while SPDIF calls for +/-.5v Sending +5v out to something designed for .5 could do some damage. So Does this board put out SPDIF spec +/-.5v or do I need to include a level shifter with the connector/back plate?

If you end up getting an NVIDIA graphics card it will come (or it should, MSI cards do) with an S/PDIF cable for connecting to the 2 pin MB header. Also if you have an old case that you can salvage front panel connectors such as power switch, LED's or whatever should work.
It's 3 pin on the MB and the Asus 8400 card I bought awhile back for the linux computer didn't even explain what the 2 pin connector on the card was for, let alone include the cable. People on the linux vdr forums figured out it was bringing the ac3 out to the dvi connectors.
And My original question has yet to be answered about what the voltage swing is on the data line. And now I am finding conflicting information about what is even safe. Some say 0v/+5v (TTL) is ok, others say it could blow the ac3 input on some systems and should be -.5v/+.5v

  • K8n Neo2 Plat Audio problem

Of course, no one in this forum has had the audio problem that I have, so here I go.
I just installed the Neo2 Plat. Only card im using is the video card.  I get no audio. I use the s/pdif ports only.  I can use either the optical or coax, but i need to use one of those 2 only.  The only way I can make my spkrs make a sound is by setting the spkr config to 7.1 and that only gets me sound out of the front 2 spkrs.
I have the Klipsch Pro Media 5.1 with their Dolby Digital Decoder.  I have a 2nd computer hooked up to this, hence why I need to use a 1 cable audio solution.  I know everything else works, b/c everything was working fine when I was on my Abit NF7-s, and the sound works fine from the other machine.
My audio source was not a 2ch source. I was using the auido test, and 3d demo test in the realtek software.  If i choose the 5.1 setup, i get no sound at all from any spkr.  but if i choose 7.1, when i run the tests, only the front left and front right spkrs get sound.
I havent tried the realtek drivers yet from their site, so far Ive only used the MSI provided drivers from live driver.
I have another problem, with the Gart driver freezing the system at the Win XP loading screen, but Ill save that for another post.  But if u know what I'm talking about, and know a solution and/or forum link, feel free.

Did I call you an idiot? No! I was informing you of why you can't get 6 channels down a single SPDIF WITHOUT dolby (or DTS) encoding. As far as I am concerned this is a well know fact everyone accepted PRIOR to the arrival of the soundstorm APU. Selecting 6 channels and testing them works with the analogue outputs, just because the test is there dosn't mean Dolby encoding is present and you can get 6 channels down the SPDIF!
Here is a link where a solution to losing soundstorm dolby encoding is discussed:-

  • Neo 2 Plat Bios 1.3... adjusting HTT freezes bios

I just built my system last night with the components below.  Had problems with installing windows at first due to random lock-ups during the install process.  Moved the raptor to sata 2 from 1 (learned today from reading that i'm gonna want to put in in 3 or 4) and adjusted the jumper on my combo drive to cable select from master.  Was able to install and bench test the system with no issues after that.
Then i went to start overclocking and upon attempting to bring up the HTT multiplier menu i found that the sub menu comes up blank (blue window with nothing in it) and locks up the bios.  Can't go back or do anything, just have to power cycle.  I've never seen a bios freeze before and i hope this isn't a sign of things to come.  The board came with bios 1.3.  Any suggestions? multiple cmos resets have not fixed the problem.  I'm at work and the system has been running prime 95 all damn day so at least things are running well, but i refuse to run a system stock    Thanks for your suggestions.

What PSU are you using ? Can you list the power output ? (writen on side of psu)
Going from your specs you listed your graphics card is very hungery on power so I would suggest your psu isn't up to the job under load.
Post the spec and we will know for sure.

  • How to Position Identity Plate Overlay in Print Module?

When I print portraits, I want to include my name and date overlaying the portrait in the lower right hand corner. Currently I have to open the file in Photoshop and add this to the portrait. I saved the text information (name and date) in a transparent tiff and imported the into LR's print module identity plate. The problem is that the graphic is displayed in the middle of the portrait. Is there some way that the identity plate overlay can be positioned exactly where I want it (the lower right hand corner)?
I recently did a portrait sitting for a large family reunion that involves seven different family portraits being printed in 4 different sizes. If I could position the identity plate exactly where I want, this would save me a lot of time instead of having to add this in PS.

Hopefully this will be improved drastically in the final release of version 2. In an earlier thread, I asked about printing that used to work in Lr 1.2 and stopped working in Lr 1.3. An Adobe engineer replied it was a known bug. I am also a pro photographer and love Lightroom. jc

  • Lightroom crashes every time I try to change the font color of my identity plate

I use the LRB portfolio plugin to create my website. Every time I try to change the color of my identity plate, lightroom crashes immediately. I can change the font and size without the problem, only a color change causes the crash. I tried to trash the plugin, but it still behaved the same way. Can anyone help me with this problem?

    Hi Sean,
thanks for answering. No, it crashes anyway. I tried changing the identity plate color in all different modules. I was able to change it once when I had just bought a new computer and installed Lightroom, but now I can't. I wonder if there are any cache files or anything causing this. Unfortunately I don't know enough about this to fix it myself. I wondered whether LRB is causing a problem simply by having it installed, but as I said, after I removed it from the Web Galleries folder, the problem still occurred. Is there any way to recreate the identity plate in Photoshop (same font and size etc.) and reimport it into Lightroom? I need to finish my website and my name is sol light, it is barely legible. Any fix or workaround would be appreciated.

  • Trying to use labview to analyse analog data from a jump on a force plate and measure peak force (at two points, initial land and 2nd land from jump). Also need to mark the time of flight (time off plate).

Attached is a file of 3 trials of a drop vertical jump activity onto a force plate.  the subject stands on a platform off the force plate, jumps onto the force place and immediately jumps up as if going for a rebound.  I am able to run this data and obtain a waveform graph with no problems.  however, I need to be able to find the initial contact with the force palte, the peak of the drop, the intial time off the force plate (prior to the jump), the return from the jump and finally the second peak (landing from the jump).
I want to calculate the time of flight ( time off the plate and in the air after the intial drop) to calculate juimp height.
I had someone write me a mathscript for it and it works well, however, I need to do it without mathscript as I do not understand mathscript (nor Labview!!).

OK, but I'm not understanding what you're asking us to do... Are you asking us to explain what the MathScript code is doing? (It's searching the array for the elements when the values are above or below a threshold.) Are you asking someone to convert the whole MathScript code to LabVIEW (we are not a code-writing service), or you just want to be able to calculate the new stuff you want with LabVIEW?

  • Whats the difference between SPDIF and digital connectio

OK, I've read around and I'm still confused, so I have some questions that hopefully you peeps can answer:
) SPDIF is a digital connection correct?
    2) Can SPDIF carry 5. signals?
    3) Whats better, optical or coax?
The next question is related to my speaker system...
    4) I currently have the Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500. Its currently using the SPDIF connection. Why is it that I'm only getting 4. and not 5. in the speaker (channel/noise) test? Why isnt the X-FI recognising my 5. speaker system?
Really need this sorted guys, so please help. Thanks.Message Edited by prankz on 0-22-2006 03:5 PM

. "Digital audio connection" is a concept - the sound is "transported" in some numeric form between 2 devices.
    2. SPDIF is a particular hardware implementation (interface) of that concept (the most popular one). Was made by Sony and Philips to transport 2 channels of PCM encoded sound (wav files). Maximum bandwidth was enough for 2 audio channels encoded in PCM (uncompressed) at 24 bit/48kHz. Now it was extended to 24 bit/96kHz.
Phisically is done by a coaxial copper cable (RCA connectors) or via optical cable. The signal is the same in both cases so none is better than other.
    3. Surround sound has more information that stereo so some companies invented a way to compress that 5. surround channels to fit into over the SPDIF connection. The most well known solutions are DolbyDigital and DTS. Those signals although digital need to be "decoded" at the receiving end - the PCM signal can be fed directly to DAC's (so no "decoding" ).
    4. Sound in computer games is surround but is not compressed with any of the 2 methods. So if you feed that sound via SPDIF you will get only stereo PCM in the speakers. If you play in the PC a DVD that has the sound already encoded in DolbyDigital, that can be sended via SPDIF as such and be decoded in 5. signal in the speakers. Creative soundcards don't encode the surround sound from games in DolbyDigital or DTS (there are some other cards that ca do that but those don't have hardware EAX).
