SPDIF IN VISTA

Hi can anyone help here?I have an Audigy 2 ZS that worked fine in XP with powerdvd etc, for spdif output. In vista 64 I couldn't get any sound if i selected spdiff. I installed a codec pack and a windows update kb936225. My sound then worked fine. I have since installed SP RC for vista 64 and now all programs including media player 64 bit have spdif not working again. I have tried removing the update, installing newer codecs and re-installing Audigy drivers. kb936225 wont install again (maybe due to sp)?my understanding was that SP was meant to fix Spdif issues, Is it now down to creative to make drivers that work with sp or am i missing something..
I have considered buying a XI-FI card but gather that too has issues with 64 bit dvd software. Any help would be graetly appreciated.

Disconnected drive bay and jack info still says "Drivebay RCA LR". WTH?

  • SPDIF & Built-in decoder

    Hi everyone.
I have an X-FI Fatality (with remote & front bay) wich, as far as I know, is able to decode DTS & Dolby (In fact, I've been using that feature for a couples of years).
While using XP, to be able to use the DTS and Dolby decoder, I had to choose as the output for the player (for example, Powerdvd) SPDIF, and enable the internal decorder as well as the SPDIF-IN decode (in the SPDIF tab) at the soundcard control panel. When I played some content with DTS or Dolby, the black & white logo appeared at the bottom right corner. If the content was, for example, stereo, it worked anyway (That's the case of multiple audio format DVD's. If I chose the DTS track, it played decoded by the soundcar. If I chose the stereo one or played an AVI file, it also played).
Right now I'm, using Vista. To be able to make the decoding through the soundcard I have to change the default windows sound device (through windows control panel) to SPDIF output. Unless I change back the default sound device, I'm not able to play any other kind of audio (MP3, for exmaple).
So, the decoding is working. But it's pretty annoying to change the windows's sound settings everytime I want to watch a movie.
I'm the only one with this behaviour? Is it normal in Vista? Otherwise, do anyone know a possible solution or some kind of tip to guide me?
    Thank you, in advance.
I hope you undertand what my issue is. Keep in mind that English is not my native language.

Why would you want to do this if you're using analogue connection to your speakers You obviously get nothing from the speakers at all because you did not use a digital connection hence vista is attempting to stream the audio through a connection that does not exist at all
DD and DTS decode should work with the same settings you use under XP. That is in the Entertainment Mode set DD and DTS bitstream out to OFF (use built-in decoder) and in the DVD player software set output to SPDIF (without any effects). This should route the digital audio from your DVD movies to the built-in decoder which, when decoded will be output through your default speakers (the anlogue one) without having you to change your default output device to SPDIF (in vista's playback device settings)

  • Alternatives to Creative cards for Vi

I've wasted enough time trying to get my creative cards to run Dolby Digital or DTS through SPDIF on Vista. I've bought enough cards, cables, boxes, converters and software to feed my family for a week. Enough.
I need an opinion on what card I should buy that supports (all of) the following:?-Vista-5. Channel surround sound or higher-DTS-Dolby Digital-SPDIF (coaxial or optical connection)? If anyone knows of any cards that do some or all of the above, please post here. This will be a useful resource for not only myself, but pretty much everyone using vista. Thanks guys!

After wasting this much time on creatives cards, of course I googled alternati'ves. But to no avail. Also, there are no strict rules governing the discussions to cards not manufactured by creative labs. In fact that promotes healthy compeition. In addition to that, I feel that when creative's products fail to perform their intended function, it is only fair for me to use their resources (forums) to try and regain that intended function.

  • I have SPDIF passthrough in Vista x

After trying to solve this for quite a while I finally found a way to get SPDIF passthrough in Vista x64. Apparently it's been working all the time, the trick is you need to use a 64bit player. Vista is by default using the 32bit version of WMP found in C:\Program Files(86)\, but if you go to C:\Program Files\ you will find the 64bit version of WMP.
Be aware that the 64bit version of WMP requires 64bit codecs and a 64bit codec pack is very likely to interfere with the audio processing.
If you are not getting SPDIF passthrough after installing a codec pack, make sure your audio decoder is set to "MPA Decoder Filter". If you still don't have SPDIF passthrough, put in a DVD and go to Tools --> Options --> DVD --> Advanced and set your output to SPDIF. I got a BSOD while trying to apply SPDIF output to a movie that hadn't been stopped, so I recommend you stop the movie before changing the output.
I hope this will work for you, as it did for me.

    Cool!

  • Vista/Win7 Bit-Matched Playback over SPDIF (and Crystalizer)

I have an SB XFi XtremeMusic and use it for my Microsoft Media Center all the way from XP MCE, Vista and now Windows 7 Ultimate (which by the way is robust, pretty mature with most (not all) issues sorted).
. I want to achei've automatic bitperfect output over SPDIF, the 'Bit-Matched Playback' in Audio Creation Mode option is there in both Vista + Win7. IE When playing music 44.k, TV/Videos 48K without using ASIO or WASAPI as Media Center does not support. However the 'Bit-Matched Playback' option appears to do nothing to the output other than disable the Crystalizer option (which doesn't work anyway over SPDIF), it always remains on the default format selected on the audio endpoint properties. Why is the option presented if it doesn't work? I understand in great detail the big differences in the XP/Vista+Win7 audio architecture and know dynamic sample rate switching worked on XP with some cards.
    2. Also on a completely different tact why do none of the enhancements (mainly Crystalizer) not work on SPDIF if default Windows audio endpoint? (I know this is completely contrary to point above/audiophiles).
Really if neither of the above two points can work or be addressed then having an expensi've XFi card for SPDIF output is pointless as give no benefit over onboard SPDIF.
    Cheers,
    Simon

Problem It's the 2.2.0002 drivers. The 2.5.0002 ones are better, but Creative never released an installer for Audigy series.... Problem 2Windows Vista 64bit doesn't support SPDIF pass through. There's a chance it might work with the "dell driver trick" but the driver release notes clearly state it's not supported. Problem 3It's the 2.2.0002 drivers. The 2.5.0002 ones are no better. • SPDIF-In not working. Vista 32b

Well... This makes for post #3 in the last 24 hours... My new problem is getting my SPDIF-in working with surround sound?on my X-Fi Fatalty (the full set with front panel and remote) while running Vista Ultimate 32bit. I tried going into the Audio console, but it's no real use. I set the SPDIF-in to default in the Windows mixer, but the Audio console won't give me the options it used to about SPDIF DTS settings like it did in XP, making stereo sound all that will work... So my Xbox 360 can't send 5. to it, I have to set it to stereo. What should I do?

Well basically it is possible, and I've found this out. Apparently Dell released a driver or something that allows it to work, but then only if you install a 3rd party modified xp version of the creative suite. I don't remember where I found it, but it was through google... Using some term including x-fi, dts, and vista.... Can't seem to find it now. Anyway, it had a download for the whole creative suite that was modified from the xp version for Vista, however it was buggy as hell, caused driver issues and blue screens, and ended up causing me to have to reinstall Vista altogether again. In other words, it's possible, but I don't recommend it until it's officially supported... Don't know when this will be yet... *crosses fingers*
Luckily I've got a dual OS system with XP too, and I switch to that when I want to use my Xbox 360... However due to Microsoft also being terrible in that department... I now get entertainment off of its 3 red lights... (For those of you who don't know, 3 red lights = hardware error. Sending into microsoft for repair typically is a 2 month process... I'm still waiting on my prepaid shipping box to arri've and it's been 4 days... Will be a similar wait to get it to them, 4-6 weeks for them to actually repair, and another week or so to get it all shipped back). Although even when the console worked, my dsl modem sometimes cut out when playing on Xbox li've and dropped signals, reported errors, etc.
What is with the companies producing technology nowadays? I just want to play Gears in 5. on Xbox li've... *cries*Message Edited by Supercoolyo on 07-22-20070:54 AM

  • Audigy2zs spdif out in Vista Ultimate32

Hello All, I'm at my witts end here! I'm trying to get spdif out in vista by using the same configuration from XPP, but its no go.
I dl the Audigy2zs vista drivers from creatives web site and installed them in my newbuild with no problem.
In XP to get Spdif out:
Speakers setting in xp: = sound 5. + digital out
Creative audio console: = spdif passthru to external decoder =? Logitech 5. THX, DTS decoder/Speakers
PowerDVD 9 Ultra: sound = Spdif
    THX Console = 5.
But Vista will not produce bitstreamed compressed sound out like XPP.
    In Vista Sound: Spdif
Creative audio console = spdif passthru to external decoder =? Logitech 5. THX, DTS decoder/Speakers
PowerDVD 9 Ultra sound: = Spdif
But all I get is static. Is there something I'm missing? am I configuring this right?
    HELP!!!
    regards,
    Asamp

    Hi asamp
It sounds?OK about your setup. what I shall do is just give you few suggestions to double check with.
    1. First make sure your optical/coaxial cable works fine and also your z-5500's control pod; if it is fine...
    2. Check whether you have selected Dolby Digital li've/DTS connect under the "Encoder" tab of your Creative Audio Console; if it is selected de select it.
    3. Check whether you selected 'spdif passthrough' under the decoder tab of Creative Audio Conole. If it is not, select it.
    4. Go to' Control Panel' ---- 'Sound'----Select SPDIF Creative Audigy-----Select 'Properties' tab------ select 'Levels' tab and check whether the sound level is set on very low (say?0) (its a 0-00 scale) if it is set in low please move it to a higher value (80/90/00).
After all these measures still your problem persist; go to 'control panel' select 'sound' select 'SPDIF Audigy 2' and set it as default; restart windows and try a DVD.
Try these and let me know whether it work or not
    GOOD LUCK

  • No SPDIF (digital audio out) on Advanced dock with T60p/Vista

    Hello,
Has anyone used the RCA jack on the back of the advanced dock to send digital audio to a home theater system? It's not working for me. Here are some of the particulars of my situation.
Windows Vista SP1 (but I had the same problem under XP; yesterday's upgrade to Vista was in hopes of solving this)
Windows Media Center setup wizard recognizes the presence of the SPDIF output
Windows audio setup recognizes the presence of the SPDIF output and claims it's working (screenshot below)
Coaxial digital audio cable is good (tested this by using a SqueezeBox2 to pass audio through it into the receiver)
Receiver is good and configured properly (tested this by using a SqueezeBox2 to drive the same input over coaxial SPDIF)
Audio driver is SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio 6.10.1.5500, dated 7/24/2007
    ThinkPad T60p BIOS is 2.22
No sound comes out no matter what I do
    Here are a few screenshots.

    http://spblat.googlepages.com/sound1.png
    http://spblat.googlepages.com/sound2.png
    http://spblat.googlepages.com/sound3.png
There may be a clue in this last one. When I click "Test" my receiver "flaps" between displaying "Stereo" and "Dolby Digital" about twice per second, as though it's trying but failing to get a lock on the signal. Remember that the cable and receiver are tested good with another digital audio source.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, this is driving me nuts!

  • Vista Live 5.1 with SPDIF mod

Hi, I have a Li've 5. card with a Coax SPDIF adaptor connected via Coax to my amp. but cant get it working properly in Vista 32 bit.
Using Media Player Classic and AC3filter it will output Stereo but nothing more than that.
I have tried the stock Vista Driver, NGO drivers and the KX Project drivers but none of these will allow proper spdif passthrough.
In the control panel I have ticked "digital output only".
I have tried every SPDIF option in AC3filter but nothing works. I can see all the channel bars in the mixer receiving sound but then it just gets passed to the amp as stereo. The SPDIF option is stated as "disabled" in AC3filter.
Anyone able to help me ?
    Thanks

    By writing proper drivers?
Remember, unless there is an ACTIVE protected stream playing, like protected Blue Ray or HD Dvd, windows locks down nothing. It's not until there is an acti've stream running, that is protected and specifies that that in order to run this stream, you must close down amongst other things SPDIF, you are able to use SPDIF amongst others just fine.
    OK. Thanks for the info.

  • Creative and Vista supp

Recently I upgraded (clean install actually) to Windows Vista.
I have a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic, which I bought about an year ago. I have Creative Inspire T7700 speakers hooked up to the X-Fi.
I'm really frustrated with the Vista support. I should have never upgraded if I knew there is such a lack of support.
Of course I installed the latest drivers, I installed ALCHEMY, Mediasource and etc.
What really disappointed me is that I made a serious downgrade instead of a proper upgrade once I tried adjusting my X-Fi. All my favorite functions were gone:
    1. The Volume Panel icon in the tray is gone.
    2. The new Volume Panel is extremely slow.
    3. The THX Console is not working. (what is the point of having a THX logo on the volume panel if you can't actually calibrate your speakers !) e.g. Clicking on the rear right speaker in the THX console activates the front right speaker (in the volume panel it works correctly). Calibration doesn't work at all. The only thing that works in the console is the Bass Management.
    4. The setting for adjusting DD and DTS output to 7. speakers is now gone.
    5. There is NO DTS Neo plugin for creative MediaSource.
    6. The nice DOLBY Digital / DTS logo that used to appear on the lower right corner when playing such content is gone.
    7. Applying EAX effects requires to restart all the applications currently using the sound card (Otherwise sound just disappears)
    8. No DVD-Audio. I have only album, though this really angers me.
and many others... such as emulation of SPDIF out and etc.. and not to mention all the applications such as Vienna SoundFont Studio, the Karaoke Player... all gone.
When is Creative going to release proper drivers and applications for Vista I mean whats the point in having an $50 X-Fi card when you can do all the things with an ordinary $0 7. sound card It has been more than an year now since Microsoft released Vista. People will start upgrading to Vista, and yes, customers won't be pleased with the so-called "upgrade".
And yes, I have the latest drivers, I have the latest software from Creative, Windows is configured to use 7. Speakers. It was all working fine under XP.
This is NOT the sound card I bought.

My apologies about not explaining further about disabling SPDIF passthrough. See the steps below to enable DDL encoding.
***Before proceeding please make sure that you've purchased, installed and activated the DDL pack***
. Open Creative Audio Console, go to the Decoder tab to disable driver level encoding and enable SPDIF passthrough (this is done by selecting SPDIF passthrough or any similar option that enable the use of an external decoder) instead of using the built-in decoders.
    2. Open up your playback devices window (right click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and select playback devices) and set analog speakers (not SPDIF) as your default device. This is VERY IMPORTANT step, or else you get the "the device is busy" error when enbaling DDL encoding.
    3. In the Audio Console, select the Encoder tab and enable DLL encoding.
    Note:
When DDL encoding is enabled, it makes exclusi've use of your SPDIF connection so, no passthrough is possible. The default output format when using DDL encoding is 48KHz/6 bits. If you make use of any AC3 audio filters (such as ac3filter/others included in codec packs/media player softwares) when DLL encoding is enabled, then please change their output device to analog speakers instead of SPDIF.
To use back SPDIF passthrough (when playing back media with a pre-encoded audio source), open up Audio Console and disable DDL encoding and in the Playback Devices window change the default device to SPDIF. If you make use of any AC3 audio filters (such as ac3filter/others included in codec packs/media player softwares) then please change their output device back to SPDIF. You may also wish to change back your output format to 92KHz/24 bits (right click on SPDIF and select properties -> Advanced tab).
    raflevi wrote:
when you said to install ddl? pack you mean the "[url="http://buy.soundblaster.com/_creativelabsstore/cgi-bin/pd.cgi?page=product_detail&category=Software&pid=F 2222SR6PAKH5DGY6SD">Dolby Digital Li've Pack - SB Audigy Series[/url] "?
thanks again for all your help.
