Speach no longer activates menu bar items or application specific items

I have been using the speach capabilities of the IMAC 20" intel system. I was able to have the computer open items on the menu bar but this has stopped working. In the preferences for speach I have checked all the speakable items catagories but
Application Specific items, Applications switching, Front Window, and Menu bar do not have a configure button usage available. What would cause this and how can I get this capablity back?

I have just noticed this same issue, and would appreciate a fix, should anyone have one.
It was very convenient to have the menu bar and application commands.

Do you mean the Bookmarks Menu button on the Navigation Toolbar?
You only see that button if the menu bar is hidden.

  • Controlling Menu Bars of Windows Applications like IE and Editor with LabVIEW 6

    Hi everybody !
I'm trying to develop a vi (LabVIEW 6) which controls menu bars in
Windows Applications (IE, Editor, etc.) like "File-Save As..." or
"View-Source...". I'm pretty sure I've got to use the ActiveX
possibilities in LabVIEW, but I haven't been succesful. Any comments
    will help.
    Thanks

You can use Win32 API to simulate a key-press (e.g. ctrl-S for Save)
for IE or any window applications, as long as the application has
short cut for menu items, and active.
You can use external code (VC, VB, dephi, etc..) to build DLL, CIN, or
    ActiveX, call them in LabVIEW.
    I made "Send Keys.vi" in G Toolbox.
If the menu item doesn't has a shortcut, you can send a message (use
spy tool to find out) to the application.

  • Menu bars for all applications are unusable

I have a new MacBook that was running Tiger when I opened up the box. I noticed that sometimes the Finder menu bar failed to respond when the cursor was passed over it or any item in it was clicked on (normally I'd expect to see the menu items drop down). I updated to OS to Leopard but although the menus worked for a bit, now they're acting up again. Oddly, the items to the right of the bar (Airport, Bluetooth, etc.) still work.
I looked through the threads and one of them suggested using the Disk Utility to repair permissions and zapping the PRAM, which I did. The logging from the repair didn't give up much -- just the following for a bunch of languages:
ACL found but not expected on "System/Library/User Template/English.lproj/Desktop".
Anyone think of anything that might be causing this? Maybe a software conflict with something I migrated over from the previous iBook?

    Steps taken:
    (1) slaved the iBook to the MacBook and migrated the configuration from the old to the new notebook. Both the iBook and the MacBook were at that time running Tiger -- the iBook has a 30GB stock hard drive in it and other than Office X and some shareware was relatively clean. The migration had one hiccup - I was using an olde version of iPhoto and when I opened it I was prompted to update the thumbnails in my picture library. This essentially froze the application when the progress bar was about a quarter done. In the end I fixed that.
When I noticed the problem with the menu bars (which by the way appear to be somewhat translucent), I tried rebooting a couple of times. At this point, the problem was random and appeared only to affect the Finder Menu bar. So a reboot had the effect of seeming like it was fixing it. When it didn't go away, I was looking arounf and hit About This Mac and discovered Leopard was uninstalled. I opened the software box and found the install disk, so I ran it. Again, the problem appeared to go away.
I didn't use the MacBook for about a week, maybe ten days, and thenlast night I noticed that the problem affected all menu bars regardless of application.Tried rebooting. No go. Tried reparing permissions - no problems found. Zapped he PRAM three or four times. No workee.
    That's where I'm at now.
I have Disk Warrior and Drive Genius, but I haven't tried them yet because (a) I thought this miht be a simple issue resolvasble on the threads, and (b) I bought them when I was running 10.3 on G3s and G4s respectively, and wasn't sure they were Leopard or Intel compatible.

  • Rolling the mouse over the menu bar does not activate menu bar drop downs

Anyone one familiar with menu bars and drop downs not activating when the mouse is rolled over them? This happens consistently afterrunning Photoshop it seems. The menus only work if they are clicked. Webpage links do not display the hand and also have to be clicked. Additionally, Photoshop selections (marching ants) do not activate.

The standard behavior of Macintosh Menus is to do nothing when the mouse is rolled over them. They drop down once you click somewhere, then roll over a similar item, such as click and release on the apple menu, then rollover the File Menu or the Edit menu.

  • "Tools" in my menu bar missing "options" and other items. Can only use 3.6.26 on my computer.

When I click "Tools" in my menu bar, only these items appear:
web search, downloads, add ons, error console, page info, start browsing history, and clear recent history. How can I get back other items such as "options"?

On Mac you can find "Options" under Firefox > Preferences.
You can consider to update to Mac OS X 10.5 to be able to use newer Firefox versions.

  • Menu bar - Bookmarks: there is no item "organize bookmarks"

Simple: top of Firefox screen the menu bar is visible, click on bookmarks, there is no menu item "organize bookmarks" in the menu list

Renamed to '''Show All Bookmarks''' in 4.0.

  • Adobe Updater icon no longer in menu bar after latest Cloud updates ...

... or maybe it's actually the Adobe Applications Manager, I don't know.
How do I get it back?

Thanks for your response. It could be that there isn't a problem.
But since I bought the Creative Cloud, there has always been a small red icon in the menu bar (along with the Apple icons for WiFi, BlueTooth, etc.) for the Adobe Application Manager. I could launch the Application Manager right from there if I wanted to check for updates, but the chief value was that the Application Manager was always on the lookout for any Cloud updates. When there was an update, there would be a number displayed right on the icon that essentially said that there was one (or two or three) updates available. When you see the number, you run the updater.
But recently, that icon in the menu bar has vanished and I don't know if Adobe Application Manager is still actively looking for updates.
I can still launch the Adobe Application Manager from the Apps folder or from the dock and the AAM shows a list of Cloud apps and indicates whether they are installed or not. But no mention about updates.
Yes, I can check for updates from any Cloud App and that launches AAM which reports that there are no new updates. And I can click on Preferences and check the box that says "Notify me of new updates in the menu bar." So maybe the icon will appear in the menu bar if there is an update?
A minor issue, I know, but that little icon used to be in the menu bar all the time ... and seemed to be looking for updates.
    Thanks,
    Brad

  • I can no longer rearrange menu bar icons..... Please help!

Only the apple native icons (airport, BT, battery, etc) will allow to be arranged when I hold down the apple command key and drag. Previously, I could move norton AV, Weatherpop, etc. Is there a prefs file that I need to trash and rebuild or a 3rd party application that needs to be reinstalled in order for all of my menu bar icons to allow to be rearranged?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Because of the problems between Spotlight, SystemUIServer and menu bar extras I had to minimize the number I run, so I just use wClock, Scripts and Input menus. Since wClock is third party it can't be moved, I want it next to the Spotlight icon, then the Scripts menu and then the Input menu. The only way I found to get this to happen was remove everything, then turn on wClock, restart, then add the Apple ones. However, with depressing regularity after a shutdown the next restart would have them rearranged. I discovered that when that happened I could launch Activity Monitor and use it to force quit SystemUIServer, whereupon the arrangement would go back to what it had been. I would guess about 1 in 3 restarts it does not display in the order I had at shutdown.
    Francine
PS--I noticed in another post you have APE installed. Since you aren't using any of Unsanity's haxies I would uninstall it. The balance of menu extras is chancy enough as it is, the fewer things messing about with SystemUISever, the better.

  • Weird open command stuck under menu bar for just one specific file

I'm having a weird problem where a little arrow in a small grey box sits under the menu bar, no matter which program is active. If I roll over it, an icon for a quicktime file shows. Clicking it open a specific file. It's one I had dragged to the desktop from the trash. If I click the icon, it opens the file from the trash. If I delete the trash, the little grey box and arrow stays there, pointing to the file in the trash even though it doesn't exist anymore. I cannot get rid of it!
Here are some screenshots since this is hard to explain.

  • Menu bar disappears when applications quit

    Hello everyone,
I have this issue on my brand New iMac 27 (core i5 / Fusion drive) since it's out of the box : each Time i quit any application, the menu bar disappears and i have to click on the desktop to make it back.
    Any clue anyone?

I just got a 27" Core i5 with the Fusion Drive and it was doing the same thing - Menu Bar would disappear from screen when I quit any application.
I called Apple, their guy (nice guy, btw) told me to do the following:
    - power off/shut down the Mac
    - unplug the power cord
    - press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds
    - plug in the power cord
    - restart
I did this and the problem was resolved. He said this procedure resets the System Management Controller.
It worked for me - hope it works for you and others who experience this.

  • How can I hide the menu bar of better a specific option without using an addon?

For security purpose on my environment, I would like to hide the Menu Bar option or (better) restrict the right to install an add-on, change the proxy configuration etc..
I dont want to use an add-on for that as it will perhaps not work anymore if I update my firefox.
So i am searching for a registry/file user preference solution or anything else that will let me doing that.
    Thank you for your help

  • After upgrade to 8.0.1, F6 no longer activates location bar

Just upgraded earlier today (from v3, been awhile) and already miss previous behavior . . . where striking F6 would highlight the location bar. Now the only way I can get there is with the mouse. I'm guessing eliminating the "tabs on top" feature would be worth a shot, but on the XP (SP3) machine I'm running I can't find how to do this.
If I want this functionality back do I need to roll back the upgrade, or can I get there in the current version?
    Thanks -

Not sure I remember F6 as highlighting the location bar, but
*'''Cltrl +L''' or Alt D move focus to the location bar.
    ** see [[keyboard shortcuts]]
To stop tabs on top in XP from the toolbar menu use
*'''View -> Toolbars -> [] tabs on top''' (un tick the check )
** see [[Common questions after upgrading from Firefox 3.6#w_why-are-tabs-on-top-of-the-location-bar-now]]_why-are-tabs-on-top-of-the-location-bar-now
(I also use XP sp3) Hopefully my answers solves the problem without you needing to downgrade.
    * if you do downgrade it is recommended it is to firefox 3.6, although that should not be necessary

  • Menu bar items open and close quickly on first click

    Hi,
I am running 10.8.2 and recently when I select an item from the menu bar or an application menu the menu folder flashes on and off very quickly for the first time, and I need to select it again to get it to open properly.
Has anyone expereinced this before, or does anyone have any suggestions on the problem / a solution?
    Many thanks,
    Ian

A last post in the hope that someone may know the reason for the above?
