Speaker and headphone jack problem

I have had my pavilion dv6 for about a year n it hasn't given me any problems till of late..my pc speakers don't work when I remove my headphones from the jack so the sound only works when I put in the headphones..
Pliz help me out!!!

There is probably a red light on inside your headphone port, indicating that the analog/digital switch in there is stuck in the digital position. Insert a headphone plug and wigle it around, especially in the horizontal plane, as you insert and remove it several times. This will usually unstick the switch and restore normal operation. If it doesn't, the machine will need to be repaired.
This has been a fairly common problem, but in most cases it is easily cured as described above.

• Sound Output - Internal Speaker and Headphone Jack?

I just installed my new iMac, which replaced my Mac Mini. I hook my Mac to my stereo via the headphone jack for playing iTunes. But most of the time I don't have the stereo on.
is there a way to keep the headphone jack plugged in and still have audio come out the internal speaker? Basically send audio output to both the internal speaker and the headphone jack at the same time?
On the Mac Mini this wasn't an issue because I had a splitter that ran from the mini to my monitor speakers and to my stereo.
Thanks!

Hi, you can get the internals to give notice of emails & actions..externals for any other sound..
Sadly your wishes on this matter will not come to fruition...L

• Hold Button and Headphone Jack problems (not a question, DO NOT ANSWER)

I received an old iPod with color display when the hold button appeared to be locked. The previous owner gave it to me for free. I waited about 3 years and finally looked into actually opening and fixing it. It turns out that a small ribbon cable connects the headphone jack and hold switch to the motherboard. The cable simply came out of its jack on the motherboard. All that was needed to fix the problem was simply opening the iPod and reconnecting the cable. For information on how to open your iPod's case check this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g21_JdLtJW8
The blue tool pictured is not necessary. A few flathead precision screwdrivers work perfectly. Try it and good luck!

P.S.
The hold button was constantly locked and had no control.

• Back to back scratch noises from speaker and headphone jack, very faint

I'm having a headphone/speaker issue, but it is very difficult to describe. When I use my computer, the speakers or headphones (if plugged in) will occasionally emit two quick scratchy noises back to back. The speakers and headphones work great, but I can't figure out what the noises are. They sound kinda like if you were to gently scratch the macbook pro casing with your fingernail. Any ideas as to what can cause it to happen?

it seems that m1r3k found a very good workaround, at least for the Mid 2010 Mac mini models (that I'm using right now). I don't know if it works also with more recent Mac mini models.
Re: After upgrading to lion, cant select HDMI sound setting
Open Audio MIDI Setup.app in /Applications/Utility, click the + (plus) button in the bottom left corner of the window and choose "Create Multi-Output Device". In the new device settings tick the HDMI "Use" checkbox and you're done. Simply go to the usual System Preferences Audio panel and choose the newly created device, without the need to unplug the audio cable from the back of the Mac mini. You can also name the new audio device as you want.
NOTE:
This is only a workaround for a deliberate choice made by Apple on OS X Lion 10.7.2 and beyond:
Mac mini: About HDMI audio and headphones
Please let Apple know (here or here) how this has made things unnecessary awkward for users and needs to be fixed (these forums don't count, they are not read by Apple's employees)!

Hi ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g series Notebook and issues with the sound. Here is a link to help troubleshoot issues with the sound. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices and headphones, as these could cause some issues. Here is an automated tool for troubleshooting Windows 7. It has a built in Audio repair built into it. I hope this helps with the sound. Thanks.

I've updated my ipad to iso7 now the sound is distorted through the speaker and headphones, it is unusable! I wouldn't dare to update my iphone. Is anyone else having this problem? Can't seem to find any fixes online?

A reset should fix it:
Double click the Home button. Slide up with one finger on ALL your apps to close them.
Then, Press the Sleep/Wake button + Home button and hold 15 seconds or until you see the Apple logo.
This will reset your device without erasing data, apps or settings.

• My new iPhone 4S has hearing problem.speaker and headphone works very good. However using handset to make and receive calls I cannot hear anything?I did restore the phone and removed the plastic. Is there any solution to this problem please?

I am having heraing problem with iPhone 4S.Speaker and headphone works well.No echo. When I use handset to receive or make calls,I can't hear anything?I restore the phone and removed the plastic as well.Is there anyway to fix this problem?

I personally haven't experienced much of the "reverberation/feedback" when using a headset on the i4S...
Yes, I have near-perfect hearing too (for scope, squeaky brakes hurt my ears) I come from many conversations on many phones and types and first off, CDMA technology is great for coverage, terrible for voice quality. HD Voice in Europe made for some of the best phone conversations I've ever had.
Back on track, feedback is most noticable (similar to the landline phone) when using the iPhone without a headset, but for me it's not an absolute criticality mainly because I use VoIP apps alot, so maybe it has desensitized me some over the past year.
But whenever I'm on a call, and the other person has me on speakerphone, I have alot of trouble talking because of the feedback loop caused. So the less of my voice I hear the better I can talk.
Have you tried a bluetooth headset yet?

• I can't hear my phone calls unless I put it on speaker. Tried cleaning by blowing on earpiece and headphone jack and pushing near front camera and earpiece speaker...no luck. HELP!

If you've tried everything mentioned you probably have a failed earpiece. One option is to get a BlueTooth headset and use it for all calls. It will be cheaper than the $199 out-of-warranty replacement price from Apple (if it's still in warranty or AppleCare it will be free). Good BT headsets can be had for around $40. And it will hold you over until the Next New Thing from Apple is available

• HP Envy Phoenix h9 Headphone Jack problem

When i plug in my headset, no sound comes from it, but instead the speaker plays the sound. I realised that only my mic jack is working and when i plug in the headset's headphone jack, the computer says that there is no headphone plugged in. This is very frustrating as when i do a trouble shoot on the audio playback, it says:
The peripheral does not appear to be plugged in. Check the connection. Proceed to next step to finish.
I chose the option: Speakers/Headphones - IDT HIgh Definition Audio CODEC
The jack i plug it in is on the front of the computer, on the top where there is the headphone, mic and 2 usb places to put them in. My headphones dont show up when i go to control panel, hardware and sound, sound. The Device: Speakers/Headphones show that it is not plugged in. I have a feeling that the headphones jack somehow spoilt. It was still working earlier before i switched the computer off ( i took out the headset's mic usb and headphones jack before switching off ). After a while i switched on my computer and realised that there was the headphones problem. I tried using the headset on another computer and it worked. I tried using another headphone on the HP ENVY but it also did not work.
This question was solved.

• 9 month old Zen Micro with the headphone jack problem

So, I've been putting up with the headphone jack problem for a few months now, and i've finally decided to get it repaired or fixed. I emailed Creative a few months back and they told me to send it in. My question is, since I am out of warranty, will they repair the unit or send me a whole new one all together?
thanks,
mike

Actually, I just sent in my 7-month old Micro in b/c of the headphone jack problem and they sent me a brand new shrink-wrapped one. They didn't charge me for anything. All I had to do was wait 2 weeks for them to send it back to me (grueling but doable) and pay about 2.44 for shipping the micro to them. So now I'd have three batteries if it weren't for the fact that one of them swelled up; I have NO IDEA how that happened. So yeah I guess the point of the post is that you don't get charged anything even if you're out of the 90-day labor warranty.

• Petition: Make the headphone jack problem's status publ

Dear CEO of Creative Labs [I still have to find out how to contact the CEO]:
I was very excited about buying your product, the Creative Nomad Zen Micro, as an alternati've to competitors such as Apple's iPod mini and the Rio Carbon. I was impressed by the numerous features, the looks, and the size of the player, which could fit into the palm of your hand.
Unfortunately, I came across a serious problem with the player that could have serious consuquences on my (and many other people's) buying descisions. There seems to be a defect in the headphone jack of the player, causing it to pop loose and make the sound intermittently come through only one of the headphones, in a few months or even a matter of days, making the player unusable.
Countless members of the Creative community in the forums on your website have gone through three to four Micros with this problem, as well as people commenting on the player at review websites such as Cnet. There have been numerous messages sent to customer support about this problem, but it has all been attributed to user error.
If you just take a look at the Creative forum, there are so many people with this problem that it can't possibly be a rare manufacturing defect, especially considering the fact that quite a few people have gone through 2 or 3 micros already, all with the same problem. We are not asking you to immediately fix the problem, we understand that it would probably entail a large and costly effort to do so. What we do want to know is that we want a public announcement of the problem, whether Creative has confirmed it or not, and what is being done/not being done about it, and perhaps customer tips about how to avoid it. There have been rumors that the headphone jack as been supposedly reinforced by a metal plate, and others... Many potential creative customers like such as me are left in the dark about what most forum users refer to as the "dreaded" headphone jack problem. We would like to know about it, what to do to avoid it, and whether or not something is being done/has been done to new products to prevent this problem from happening. Again, contacting support has not answered our questions.
If I, (and countless other potential customers), are uncertian about this problem, we might as well give up a few features like the FM tuner and buy and iPod mini or another competing product free of such a problem. We would very much appreciate it if you would publicly release information about this problem.
Please contact me at the address shown. [Yes, this IS a snail-mail letter] We are all looking forward to a reply. For more information, please refer to the petition here:

Sincerely,

Any suggestions/comments/corrections? (This is just a quick first draft) Please sign here for the petition. Also, you could post "testimonials" about your opinion on the headphone jack problem. I'm not expecting a reply from the CEO him/herself but I hope to get a better response than just an email to support.Message Edited by CreativeHead on 03-7-2005 02:03 PM

There are threads ongoing on similar topics. This is not a suitable topic for this forum.
I will pass on any comments from the other threads and original post in this one, but I'm closing this topic and any further petitions like this as it will just result in "Creative-bashing" and unproducti've comments.

• Headphone jack problem with Zen Micro

Hi.
I bought my zen micro on April 4 and everything was fine until a few weeks ago
when I got the headphone jack problem. When I touch the plug that is connected
with the player, it makes a weird noise and the volume decreases and goes back to normal
and it keeps doing it.
Can I get a/s for no charge since it's a yr hardware warranty?
P.S.) I can see there are some ppl who are getting upset by this same problem here.

• Headphone Jack Problem X's

Just thought I'd put my two cents in. I have just started experiencing the infamous headphone jack problems on a Zen Micro I bought less than 6 months ago where it cuts in and out, etc., etc. Funny thing? is that I had the same thing happen with a Zen Muvo I purchaed before that. I thought it was a fluke. Apparently not. Wish I would have visited the discussion groups earlier... Think I can still get it replaced?

It's very rare for a MuVo to have this, so it sounds like you've been doubly unlucky unfortunately.

• Headphone jack problem with the zen mi

Not even 2 months after sending it in to be fixed, and I can't move my head without the sound getting distorted. Why don't they fix the problem not just make it work for a month in a half. Is there anyway to fix this withut sending it in?

I gathered that a lot of people have experienced headphone jack problems with their players, but I thought that was with the Micros only. I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one. Or maybe I'm not. I dunno.
Anyway, I sent an e-mail to customer support. My wife bought the unit for me for a Christmas present last year, so it's only a couple of months out of warranty. If nothing else, hopefully Creative will tell me how to ship it back for repairs at my own expense (it's gotta be cheaper than buying a new one).
