Speaker blown?

First off, I'm on my fourth macbook. The first two had serious build and power issues, the third started to shutdown. It was at the repair depot for two weeks before I got it back with a bad DVD drive + scratched case. They agreed to send me a new one and I just got that one back last thursday. I've had the volume muted since I got it because I was mainly using it at work but today I was using it with the volume turned up and it sounds like there's a blown speaker. The startup sound is fuzzy/flabby and the system sounds sound like there is something extra vibrating with any low pitch sound. Music sounds distorted. I'll call my customer relations person on monday but I think I'm just going to keep this one and not even worry about it getting fixed. Apple has worn me out on this thing.
Any one else have this issue and if so, what did applecare have you do? Is it something they might be able to fix at the store?

It was in the normal white box that my other three
came in
You got a new one then. Unfortunately another lemon.
I think if they can't fix it at the store the only
thing I'll go for is for apple to send me a new one
before I send this one back. Other than this problem
and the weird sensor behavior, this macbook seems
solid. I want to make sure that a new one doesn't
have more even more serious problems.
Apple has some serious quality issues with their hardware. I've owned four Power Mac G5s and had hardware issues with three of them. Now my MacBook has to have the optical drive--which never recorded from day one--and logic board replaced. Where is their quality control? Don't they test anything before it goes out the door? If you don't think there's a problem here, what are the chances of Mike getting FOUR--make that FIVE--bad MacBooks? Think about it.

Ipad 3 speaker blown after updating

"Blown" would have a specific meaning here, i.e., you've overdriven it and it no longer works properly. As it's hard to see what an update might have to do with that, do you  really mean that it just isn't working?
If so, have you tried anything at all so far before you posted up this minimalist 'sort of a question'?

  • SPEAKER blown out

    Hi There ,
I have download the Dj app from app store and it blown my speakers,,I was surpriced as I thought Apple only allow safe apps in the app store,
Now my apple warrenty is over.I am wondering what would be the soloution?
I bought my iphone 4s from New Zealand and sent it to India. And apple care store in the India refused to touch my phone as they are saying that they only deal with software issues and not hardware stuff.

if it plays when you connect a headset to it the speaker is likely not blown and the app would have nothing to do with the issue

  • New 27" i7, left speaker blown, any ideas?

    Hi Everyone,
This is my first post, but I'm a longtime lurker
I fretted and worried over the arrival of my beautiful new 27" iMac, hoping it wouldn't suffer any of the issues I've been reading about on the forums. I breathed a sigh of relief when it came last Tuesday (2 days early) with perfect glass, perfect pixels, quiet hard drive, etc. I loaded all of my software from scratch, brought over all of my files, started up Final Cut and was ready to go.
Then I noticed wacky audio. It seems something is wrong with my left speaker. Even the slightest amount of bass makes the speaker put out horrible "vibrating and rattling" noises, sounds like the speaker is blown. Sounds bad across all programs (not isolated to Final Cut) but headphones sound fine. Opened up System Preferences and moved the balance all the way to the right, everything sounds perfect, but if I move the balance to the left it is very very noticeable.
I looked around on the message boards, found someone with an older iMac with the same problem, someone had suggested trashing audio preferences and zapping the PRAM, I did both of those. No luck.
I have an appointment tomorrow morning at the Genius Bar, we'll see what they say. I want them to fix +this machine+, not give me a new or refurb. Two months ago I took my 18 month old 17" MacBook Pro in to replace the graphics card (under warranty) and they ended up giving me a refurb (though they said previously they wouldn't). I had had a dead pixel and a small scratch on the top of the case and suddenly both of those items had disappeared! So that was happy for me in the end.
So, does anyone out there have any advice to give me before I lug my iMac to the Apple Store tomorrow morning? Are they likely to want to give me a new unit or fix this one? Any magic words I should say to the Genius (besides please)? Anyone else out there have any experience with this same problem?
Any thoughts, ideas or moral support would be appreciated! Thanks!

The guy at the Genius Bar was pretty quick to agree with me that the speaker was blown. I was a little worried because the Apple Store was quite loud, I wasn't sure if he would be able to hear the speaker noise (he said he would take the iMac to the back if necessary).
I knew the "bad sound" only happened when you played music or sound with a little bit of bass, so I planned ahead and created a "Bad Speaker Mix" in iTunes in preparation for my appointment. I pulled about 8 songs that sound particularly horrible on the speaker. The first thing the tech guy did was open up iTunes and start playing random songs, but he wasn't replicating the noise. Then I pointed out the Bad Speaker Mix and that did the trick.
The Genius said that if this was an "in-stock" build, they would just give me a new machine. But, I have a i7 (and a 2 TB drive) so the only option is to have my machine repaired. They didn't have the part in stock, it needed to be ordered. I was allowed to take my computer home, they'll call me when the part has arrived (should be here today or tomorrow). He said the repair will be done in-store and should take a couple of days. He also mentioned that they repair computers 7 days a week, so there's no slow-down in the repair system.
Overall, I was very pleased with the whole experience. The appointment took about 10 minutes, everyone was extremely friendly and explained the repair process quite well. In the end it sounds like I'll only be without my computer for a few days (I was happy to hear they do small repairs like this in the store, less chance of shipping accidents and quicker turnaround time)
Big Ben, it sounds like your speaker problem is a bit different than mine, are you able to replicate it easily? Just keep in mind that these Genius Bar appointments are fast, so planning ahead helps you out!
I'll post again once my computer is all fixed up, good luck Big Ben!

  • IPhone Speaker "Blown" - Is it a DEFECT?

Last week, I brought my iPhone into the Apple store and they replaced it because the speaker (for speakerphone/music) was blown. The problem was that when listening to music, the speaker was very crackly and sounded muffled very often. This problem occurred with all the music that was on it. The replacement phone had the same problem. I brought it in again today, and they said it could be either the speaker, or the sound processor in the phones that is causing the problem. They replaced it one last time, and the latest replacement also has the problem! I have been through 3 4GB iPhones and they all have this problem. However, I compared my 4GB model to the 8GB model in the store, and all the 8GB floor samples didn't have the problem. Anyone know what the real problem is? Is there anyone else who has noticed this problem? Do you think the iPhone is defective?

In regards to the problem you're having, yes you have to compare the two to give you a better explanation why the speaker isn't designed for songs, rather more for voice calls.
Human voice doesn't have much complexity in regards to the frequency it uses vs to that of a song as evidenced on a graphic equalizer. For that reason, the speakerphone can handle voice calls better, having a better frequency response. Songs trigger a more complex frequency on a graphic equalizer (i.e. the graph goes crazy) and the speakerphone speaker isn't powerful enough to handle that.
Play a music with a lot of bass through the speakerphone, you'll hear that it sounds blown. I have the same issue. Try out the the display units in the Apple Store, I bet you'll experience the same thing.
Bottom line is that songs pushes the speaker's limit on the iPhone when it's not truly designed for that function.

  • IPhone SPEAKER§ BLOWN?

There can be no way that my speakers are blown because of me I have only played sound out of them twice and at low volumes. I bought the 8gb iphone and when I play music I hear a rattling noise coming from the speakers, You know a blown out speaker noise. I have no clue how this can happen cause I only played music once before this. I restarted my iPhone and still the blown out speaker noise. What I want to know is should I tell apple or is this not a problem at all and apple just put crappy speakers into my $600 dollar phone. If so then I would like a refund if anything at all, or a new phone and not a refurbished one.

The iPhone does not have speakers as in plural. The iPhone has a single speaker and the other that appears the same is a microphone. This is included with the User's Manual which is available as a PDF download.
What you have is a defective speaker which is not normal and is covered under warranty. How can this happen? Easy since human beings are involved and unfortunately things like this make it past the quality control procedures on occasion. It happens.
If your iPhone was purchased within the last 14 days and you live near an Apple Store, take your iPhone along with the box and everything else that shipped with it to the Apple Store. Your iPhone should be exchanged for a new one on the spot since it is so new. If purchased greater than 14 days ago and/or you don't live near an Apple Store, call AppleCare - (800) 694-7466 to report this.

  • IPod touch 5th generation speaker "blown"?

Hello all, I am new to the forum but was hoping to get an answer from someone who might know a bit more about iPods/Apple. My husband and I got our iPod touchs back in November of 2012. Just last month, out of the blue, his speaker randomly started crackling. At first it was just occasionally at high volume, now it does it all the time, even on just a few bars of volume. The best way to describe it is that it sounds like the speaker is blown, however I'm not sure if this is even possible? I was wondering if this is covered by Apple as it is obviously a malfunction of the internal parts and not from some misuse or abuse on our part. I really don't have any extra cash to just run out and buy a new one, but could really use some advice on whether or not the limited 1 year warranty applies to this specific situation or not. Also, since it has been a few months, we no longer have the reciept so if it was covered by the warranty, would this matter (don't they track the serial number when you log in with your apple id?)?? Thanks in advance for any helpful responses!

If the iPod has not been abused and the iPod is defective Apple will exchange it at no cost.

  • My ipad2's volume is really loud and has some static even when the volume is down below half. Is my speaker blown and can it be repaired?

The volume is so loud and full of static even at low volume settings. I think the speaker might be blown. I had no volume for a couple of days the I powered it of let it set over night and turned it on the next day. Now the volume is super loud and I am afraid the speaker is blown or going to any time now. Is there an easy fix to this or do I have to send it in for repairs? I have only had this ipad since Christmas.

  • Has my iPhone 5's speaker blown?

This could be a stupid question or I could be right. I got my iPhone 5 a month or so ago. When I play a song of my iPhone 5 (without any headphones etc.) it sounds clear and seems ok. I notice there are two speakers on the iphone 5 near the headphone jack and if I cover my thumb over the right hand side speaker no sound comes out, shouldn't some sound be coming out of the other speaker?
Again, I can be totaly wrong and sound like an idiot or something could be wrong?

There is only one speaker on an iPhone.  The side you're not covering, when no sound comes out, is actually the port holes for the microphone.  Your phone is working fine.  Not an idiot, many people make that same mistake/assumption.

  • IPod touch 5th gen speaker blown

Hey guy,i have a ipod touch 5th Generation and my speaker blew.I cant send it back to apple because its really far from where i live,so i wanted to know if i put an iphone 4s or a ipod 3g speaker in my ipod will it work and fit?

    First try:
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted
    - Then go to ifixit and look at the photos of the various devices and see if they look interchangeable.

  • Is my speaker blown?

Alright so when I play a video on youtube, the audio comes in but it sounds like it's bad quality. After about a minute or so into each video, the audio jumps into better quality. I've been listening to music on youtube throughout the day, and it practically does it to every song. But this doesn't happen when I use Pandora. I am wondering is there something wrong with my speaker?

  • Lots of Stuff Wrong--Chief Among Them OS X Won't Boot

I did the Quicktime update that came out a few days ago... When I restarted, everything went okay until the "Mac OS X" screen. It went about a half a centimeter on the progress bar in the "Mac OS X" window and then the window disappeared and I was faced by a blue screen. I tried restarting repeatedly. Same thing every time. The "Mac Os X" window disappears. The screen changes to a lighter shade of blue after a few seconds. Every few seconds, a progress wheel like the one under the apple when you first start up the computer appears, makes half a revolution, and vanishes. I have run Techtool Deluxe, Disk Utility off of the install disk (a volume had to be repaired, but as far as I can tell repairing it didn't help at all), Mac OS X Boot Utility, reset the Pram, and booted in Safe Mode as well. Mac OS X Boot Utility said that I had a memory error--the error code was "post/0/2048". Is there anything else I can do? I don't want to have to send my laptop in to Apple.
Someone said something about a "Setup Assistant" in a reply to my earlier post, what is that? Would it help?
Also, I was just wondering if any of you knew how to get a disc out of the SuperDrive outside of the actual OS?
And one more thing: I think the sound file OS X is supposed to play when it starts up is corrupted. Sometimes it doesn't play at all, and when it does it sounds like the speakers are blown out. How do I fix this?
Man, I have a lot of stuff wrong with this my computer.

Ok, going to have to charge you for this one. just kidding.
Well, first off most problems are software, not hardware, so I would address the software first. Since it is failing so early in the boot cycle I would jump to the conclusion that the OS got scrambled. It could be as simple as one file getting damaged, but what file is the million dollar question. The quick and sure way to go on this is to boot off your Apple system disk and do an "archive and install." That basically loads a new Apple OS on there and saves all the old system files in another folder (previous system).
You need to be sure you have enough disk space free to do that. I believe it will warn you if you do not. The draw backs to that are you may have to re-install some of your after-market applications, and any system customizations you did will be gone, (not gone off the disk, just not in the new system). Depends on your knowledge as to if you can get them back out of the old system or not, otherwise you will have to just configure stuff anew.)
Getting the disk out of the super-drive, try booting while holding down your mouse button until it comes out.
the system chime, not sure about that. Is the volume up too loud? Is the speaker blown? You may want to google that one.
Ok, good luck on that, you have some work to do.

  • Static and popping sound

I have a Pavillion dv5-2129 Notebook and there is a popping noise and static coming from the front left speaker. Has the speaker blown?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Shutdown the notebook, remove the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Next, hold down the power button for a full minute.  Leave the battery out and plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.  Do you still get the noise in the speaker?

You can also make a report to Apple I believe.
The last time someone reported about that, they said that the police communicated with Apple, not the victim. Whether that was, or is still true, I do not know. The police may be able to tell you when you file the report, but if not, it won't hurt to contact Apple and ask. Good luck to you Karina.
