Speaker 'Fuzz' when Scrolling Windows (Strange problem)

I have a set of old Cambridge SoundWorks 4.1 speakers and a SoundBlaster Live! Value video card, as well as a Microsoft 4-button symetrical optical mouse, and over the last three weeks I've been noticing a 'fuzz' or hash on my front right and left speakers whenever I scroll a window (Firefox, MSWord, etc..., even in games too). This fuzz seems to be some kind of EM interference, perhaps not surprising since my fronts are situated about 4-5" away from my ViewSonic E90f 9" CRT monitor. Sometimes the 'fuzz' is very quiet and sometimes it is quite loud, even becomming noticable over music being played at the time. Note that this only happens when I am scrolling a window and not just using the scroll wheel on my mouse, so if I just use the arrow keys to scroll a window down it happens.
I'm totally mystified as to the cause of this fuzz interference, but I fear my 4.1 set is just getting old (I think I've had these for over 5-6 years now). Any suggestions would be helpful.

It is unlikely to be the speakers. Your monitor won't interfere with the speakers, but the speakers may interfere with the monitor, which it worse! It's also unlikely to be the mouse. It's most likely that the soundcard isn't getting the resources it requires. Check your system resources; if you have installed a new program recently that is running in the background, this may be the culprit. If you look at the CPU usage, you will probably notice that it rockets as soon as you start to quickly scroll a window (mine does anyway, up to 65% usage). I have used a computer that increases the CPU fan speed if you move the mouse wheel!
Some things to try..
-Try using headphones, if you still get the fuzz, it's not the speakers.
-Try moving the soundcard to a different pci slot as it may be sharing an IRQ with something else, like the graphics card, which may explain why you hear it when you scroll a window or play games.
-If you have recently updated any drivers, try changing them back to the old ones.
-Install the latest version of Direct X (you probably have already).
-Get rid of any unwanted programs eating up valuable resources.
I've heard something like this on my laptop, when I scroll I hear a faint squeaky/bleepy noise. I also hear it when the DVD dri've reads a disc! :smileyindifferent: When I watch a DVD and use headphone, it drives me mad. I think its just my rubbish chipset.

  • Strange problems with Windows 7 running on Bootcamp

Hi there. I have just installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp on my Macbook with Leopard. I have a few strange problems and just wanted to see if I could gain any help or see if anyone else is experiencing these problems. Apart from those, its running great :P
Main one is when I close the macbook shut, then open it back up the screen stays black, i can hear it open back up but its like it just stays in Sleep mode. I then need to hold down the power button and switch it back on.
Secondly when I use the down, up left or right arrow button to scroll down in the respective direction the cursor is moving around like it would on a word document. It will scroll down eventually but only becuase the cursor has reached the end of the page.
Thanks for your time and I really hope someone can shed some light.

Hey, I'm having this issue too, however I also get freezes while the screen is still on, or while the screen power saves, and will not resume.
The computer stays on, and warm, meaning it never powers off, nor realizes its hung-up, and the only way to get back to work is a hard shutdown and reboot.
Details are below, and x64 Win 7 MSDNAA RTM Build 7600 - 4gb of Corsair 4-4-4-12 2x2 ram.
I have already gotten the newest commercial nVidea drivers and I am running RivaTuner with appropriate settings, and I have disabled the Wired NIC, and turned off the wireless NIC power-saving settings.

  • Strange noise from my Computer when scrolling after installing Flash player

Ok so I've ran into a very strange problem, I hear some very wierd sounds when scrollnig up and down in the explorer browser. This sounds comes from my computer not from the sound on the sound system. Seems like it comes from the motherboard or the graphic card. Now this also happense when I'm scrolling up and down in a program called "Steam" It's used for playing games in. At the moment I'm using Google chrome as webb browser, I got no wierd sounds when scrolling in this browser.
    It's kinda scary please help.

Could you check to see if you have the following Windows update installed?
    KB2670838 – Platform Update for Windows 7 x64
If so, please try updating your graphics drivers.  If the problems continue, please uninstall the KB update.
    Thanks,

  • Ipod (click 40g) recognized by windows, but not by itunes strange problem

    Hey,
Since about two weeks my ipod is not recognized by itunes.
I suspect it started when i unplugged the ipod (accidentely) when the 'do not disconnect' sign was still on.
Since then every time i plug in my ipod, it is recognized by windows as plugged in hardware. When opening windows explorer, i can see my ipod, but clicking on it, to view its contents causes the explorer to jam. Itunes also does not recognize the ipod at all. IpodUpdater tends to be a little bit unpredictable about whether it will recognize the ipod.
i tried al the five R's. Resetting, reinstalling itunes and my ipod, retrying on a different computer, restarting, restoring.
My ipod itself seems to work fine. it sometimes jammed during a song, which never occured before. but now, since i restored my ipod, i don't have any music any more, so i can't test it.
When trying my ipod on a different computer, i managed to get it recognized on itunes once. but when i tried to copy music, the connection failed and itunes froze.
the sound my ipod makes is also a bit strange. when
i open ipodupdater, and the updater tries to connect to the ipod, the ipod seems to start up with a zooming (normal) sound, but then, after a second you hear a little ipod-cracklingsound, and it starts all over.
is there any suggestion at all about what i can do to try to
    fix this myself
    greetings
    river

I have a very similar problem except that I have tried all the remedial steps but the last. I cannot get the ipod updater to recognise the ipod at all, A reset simply resets and the do not disconnect message comes back after a few seconds. Again, My Computer can see the ipod as a hard drive but it cannotb access it and this causes My Computer to stop responding. Grateful for any help.

  • Windows 7 gadgets are not working anymore. Strange problem.

    Hello
I'm having a strange problem with windows 7 Gadgets, I describe it as follows:
    1. Drag and drop a gadget to any part of the windows 7 desktop.
This problem happens with all the gadgets, so you can drag and drop the gadget you prefer.
    2. Automatically, something weird happen. You will see TWO COPIES OF THE SAME GADGET PLACED IN THE DESKTOP! One of those copies, is showing the controls to close it, etc. the other copy, doesn't show any controls at all and it is glued to the desktop, you cannot
    move it.
    3. This happens with all the gadgets you drag and drop to the desktop, all them are duplicated, appearing 2 times.
    4. When you restart, windows 7 doesn't remember the gadget, so the gadget will not be there anymore and will disappear.
    5. The Fix it 50617 and Fix it 50618 DON'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
    6. I did all these steps, and also don't solve the problem.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2515657
    7. I tried other solution people is talking about in forums, registering the following DLL
        regsvr32 msxml3.dll
        regsvr32 scrrun.dll
        regsvr32 jscript.dll
    ALSO DON'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
    8. Restoring the system to the last point, ALSO DONT WORK. The last point was created in November 16th, 2011 and I tried to restore the system to that point and also don't solve the problem.
I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.
    How may I solve this?
    I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits
    Thanks

    SOLUTION FOUND
This problem is caused by a certain gadget that is presenting incompatibility problems with Windows 7 gadgets, and it's affecting the behaviour of the other gadgets.
    SOLUTION TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
    1. Uninstall ALL, ALL gadgets in your windows 7, except those that comes by default with windows 7: Clock, Calendar, Money, Puzzle, Presentation (pictures), RSS News
    2. To uninstall a gadget press with the right button of the mouse over the desktop, select in the menu Gadgets, then click over the gadget you want to uninstall to select it, then press with the right button of the mouse and select uninstall. Do this for
all the gadgets, except those coming by default with windows 7
    3. When the task be finished, restart your computer
    4. Now you will see all the gadgets are behaving perfectly, and you can install also new gadgets without problems.
Try to avoid to install gadgets that could show a weird behaviour or incompatibility problems.
    Thanks

  • There are some strange problems when i used swc files in my as3 project

    Hello everyone,
My development environment:  fdk4.0,  flash cs5.5,  I publish fla file by using flash cs5.5,   publish setting is  fp version :10.0&10.1 ->swc. I imported swc files to my as3 project and  complied them by using flex sdk4.0. When i run my project,fp was crash.   when i republished on fp 10.2, the project works. Is there any reason?
another strange problem, for example   a MovieClip's aslink named "A" in swc, it has a textfield named "subText".  I write code like below:
                            var mc:A = new A();
                            mc.subText.text = "test";
when mc called "subText" , fp throws null property error, it can't find  subText..  very small number of movieclips have this problem,  I sloved this by duplicating a new one and rename it.
             but i don't  know why ?
              thank you for your reply.

I should have figured that out from your original post. I think there is a possibility that your bookmarks/history database (places.sqlite) has a corrupted record. Rather than take drastic action on that immediately, could you do a test? The test is to exit Firefox, rename your existing database, and restart Firefox. Firefox should import your last bookmarks backup. You then could check whether the problem remains or whether you got a clean restore of bookmarks. After the test, assuming you prefer to retain your history, you could undo the procedure and try restoring your bookmark backup into the database to see whether that overwrites the problem record. If not, then we would go back to possible drastic action.
    '''Test procedure''':
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''places.sqlite''' to something like places_20130614.sqlite. Keep this window open.
Restart Firefox. By design, Firefox should import your last automatic bookmark backup.
If you return to the Library dialog, how does it look?
'''To reverse the test''' (but preserve a backup of your history/bookmark database):
    Exit Firefox
Delete the newly created places.sqlite file
Right-click copy and paste the places_20130614.sqlite and rename the copy to places.sqlite
Restart Firefox and open the Library dialog. Should look like it did a few minutes ago before any changes.
''If the test showed no corruption,'' try to restore your last bookmarks backup. The procedure is described in this article: [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]].
Does any of that get us closer to a solution?

  • Display problem when scrolling in Finder OS X Lion.

    Hi,
Last week i bought a new iMac, i7, AMD Radeon 6970M.
Sometimes, when scrolling in the Finder, the text is displayed weird.
See screendump. Is anyone known with this issue?

I've had the exact same problem with Lion.  Telephone support told me to reinstall OS X Lion, which didn't help. The genius at the Genius bar told me it was my 3rd party (Kingston) RAM.  He demonstated the display was fine without the extra RAM, but he was using a USB mouse with a scrollwheel.  At home, my bluetooh magic mouse continued to cause the same problem, and so did my trackpad.  So I determined it had to do with the faster (and different type of) scrolling that these newer devices perform.  I then saw that if I use the slider on the right side of the finder window instead of gesturing with the mouse or trackpad it works fine.
So I played with my settings a bit to see if I could overcome this problem, and found a solution.  I went to "Preferences-General-Show scroll bars" and changed from "Automatically based on input device" to "Always".  This nearly fixes the problem!  At least so far.  I get an occasional glitch if I scroll up and down a lot, but way less frequently than when its set to the default "Automatically based on input device".  This must be due to the new disappearing scrollbar "feature" in Lion.  Nicely done, Apple!

  • Information on Strange scroll window needed

I have a strange little window that pops up when scrolling in acrobat 8.2.1 (see upper right of image).  I've found it is activated by double clicking the mouse wheel.  What is this feature called?  I've looked throughout the preferences for anything like it.  I would like to permanently disable it so users don't accidentally double click their mouse wheel and turn it on.  Any help is appreciated.

  • Strange Problem with windows form in SBO

    Hi all
    I encountered a strange problem
I have a standard .net windows form that I am activating from a menu in SBO
In the test Env. in our office the form always shows on top, whoever in the customer site first time you activate the menu the form appears correctly on top but when you close the form and press the menu again the form will appear "behind" the SBO.
The form will appear on top only the first time you use it.
The form is set to TopMost true
I also tried using the user32.dll functions of SetFocus and SetForgroundWindow
(I put them in the Activated event of the form)
But it made no difference – first time form on top - the rest the from is behind
The form is run on a separate thread and as I said works perfectly in the test Env.
I am using .net 2005 with SBO 2005
    Any Ideas ?
    Thanks

  • MacBook Pro does not boot when 'cold', Windows 7 on the other hand boots without any problem

    Hey everyone,
I have a strange problem with my MacBook Pro mid 2009 13" running OSX Mavericks. For more than a year I have trouble booting my laptop. A 'cold' start (a fresh boot) usually ends with the prohibition sign on a grey back ground (starting in verbose mode results in the error message that the main drive could not be found). So far so strange.
I have Windnows 7 installed as a bootcamp partition. If I start the laptop with Windows booting is no problem and Windows runs smoothly (what a terrible world we live in). If I let the laptop run for let say 10 minutes and restart the laptop Mac OS starts without any problems. (It doesn't work if I immediately restart after windows booted; also reinstalling Mac OS as a clean install from an external medium did not change the problem; disk utility always finds something to repair but neither discpermission repair nor disk repair got rid of the problem).
As an additional comment a WD 500GB Scorbio Blue replaced the original hard drive about a years ago. I had no problems with the hard drive initally and I can't really believe that there is a problem with the hardware, I mean, why does Windows start and Mac OS doesn't?
Thanks for your time and help!
    Marco

This isn't a direct answer to your issue but have you considered installing Wine so you can run the occasional windows app directly in OSX? It's a much more elegant solution IMHO. This avoids restarting all the time with Bootcamp and avoids crashing all the time (and the security risks) with Windows running.

  • Firefox 37 Beta on Windows 8.1 has lag and stuttering when scrolling

I just recently got a new laptop, and since the minute I've installed firefox on it there has been lag when scrolling webpages. It seems to start off not too badly, with there being some stuttering when I first open firefox, however it seems like the longer I'm browsing the worse it gets, to the point where sometimes I'll start scrolling and then a second later firefox will just jump to the bottom of the page. Internet Explorer and Chrome both have perfectly smooth scrolling.
I've tried numerous things to fix it already, this is some of the stuff I can remember trying:
-Turning off hardware acceleration and smooth scrolling
    -Starting in safe mode
    -Complete reinstall with new profile
-Updating graphics card and intel drivers
    Specs of the new laptop:
    Core i7
    GTX 970M
    16Gb RAM

When I was trying different versions of Firefox to see if they all had the scrolling problem, I made sure to try 36, 38, and even 31.5 ESL portable. They all have the scrolling problem when my laptop is unplugged. However, when I tried Tor just to see what would happen - bingo! Perfectly smooth scrolling once more. This is especially weird as Tor uses 31.5.3 ESL as a base...
This made me think that it could potentially be a plugin, as Tor doesn't have any plugins installed other than Flash. However, after first disabling, then manually removing, every plugin that was listed in about:plugins the problem continues to persist.
Any idea why Tor would work flawlessly while every other version of firefox suffers the scrolling issue? I couldn't seem to remove the OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, plugin. Is it possible to remove it in order to see if it is causing the problem?

My MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.2, only audio on the headset, and speaker mute. With Windows, the audio works in speaker and headphone jack. What is the problem? What's the solution?

There is probably a red light on inside your headphone port, indicating that the analog/digital switch in there is stuck in the digital position. Insert a headphone plug and wigle it around, especially in the horizontal plane, as you insert and remove it several times. This will usually unstick the switch and restore normal operation. If it doesn't, the machine will need to be repaired.
This has been a fairly common problem, but in most cases it is easily cured as described above.

    Hi Manulak_Tech,
As you are able to view PDF I had provided, the issue seems to be PDF specific.
So when you scroll the PDF and reach to a page where Adobe Reader cannot read it, the error comes. I am sure the problem lies the way PDF was created. Can you describe how the PDF was created?
