Speaker has broken on iPhone 3GS

Hi, I bought my iPhone 3GS around a year ago on a two year contract. Around 3 months ago I dropped it and cracked the screen. Luckily I had insurance and got a replacement for £15! However around 2 weeks ago the speakers on the new replacement handset have broken. Am I entitled to a replacment?

Then you should have iMessage. Go to Settings > Messages to turn it on and set your Receive At address. Note that iMessage uses the Messages app... standard texts are gree, iMessages are blue.

Where did you buy this iPhone? Sounds like it is looked to a wireless
carrier and you have not yet inserted the correct sim.
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
Does the app Cydia appear on the iPhone?

2.1 Upgrade has Broken my iPhone! Help!

I downloaded iTunes 8 today and tried to update my iPhone to the 2.1 firmware but things have gone dreadfully wrong. After I downloaded the 2.1 firmware it proceeded to install it, but during the "preparing to install" phase there was an error (which i forgot to take down) that said I could not continue with the installation.
So, I tried to restart the installation, to no luck. Then, I tried to reconnect the iPhone, which was still on the USB / iTunes screen. Despite restarting the iPhone a number of ways, it just goes back to this screen. I think I'll need to put it back to factory settings, but have no idea how to do this, as iTunes does not detect it.
Where to I go from here?
P.S if I uninstall iTunes, do i lose my iPhone backup too?

Yes, this seems to work. I deleted one of my existing apps from both my iPhone and itunes, then redownloaded the app and resynced. Now the app works. Thanks for the suggestion! But, of course, I lost all of my app data. Boes this mean that I need to delete ALL of my apps (along with their data) and redownload them all? Isn't there any way to solve this problem without losing all of my application data?
Update: Oh, this is interesting. I just tried one of the other apps (not the one I redownloaded). Now it works as well! So it looks like your suggestion of deleting and reinstalling just one of my apps has fixed all of my apps! Magic! Thanks!!!!!

Is my camera broken? iPhone 3gs 16gb

Hi guys,
I recently bought an iPhone 16gb off somebody. They claimed it worked perfectly on the auction with no problems. Before sending it to me they updated the iPhone to 4.3.5.
Now my problem is my camera either doesn't work, lags then crashes the iPhone or makes the screen pixel/flash/vertical lines and then the iPhone turns off.
I have tried reinstalling, restarting, setting up as new iPhone, deleting photos, adding photos and nothing seems to work.
Now the question I have is:
Is this a hardware problem (if not, what else could i try?) if so does it sound like the camera is the issue or is it something else? I have no warranty so may buy a camera and install it myself.

Well you said that you restored the phone and set it "As New" .. so for me it is definately hardware problem.
You can buy camera and search google for instructions howto change it, but this is your call really

I'm having sound issues with my iphone 3gs

Ok, so the speaker sound on my iphone 3gs has stopped working. The only sound I do get is my ringtone and if I play a voicemail. I also do get sound when I plug headphones in. However, whenever I get a text message or an email, my phone vibrates even though my ringer is on. I don't hear the click sound when I unlock my screen or type anything. If I push the volume side buttons, the small, black volume/ringer box does not appear and if I play music the volume adjustment setting is missing. I've reset my phone, I've backed it up, I've messed around with the sound settings, my software is up-to-date, I've tried cleaning my headphone jack with a q-tip and nothing has worked. I have no idea why the sound stopped working since the speaker sound worked earlier today, I haven't dropped it, and I've only had this phone for about a year. Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sad to report that I have the same issues between three to four times a day. Before I got my iPhone 4S (first iPhone I've owned, btw) I used to have a Sony Ericsson C902 that I operated along with a bluetooth headset HBH-DS205 that used to work perfectly together. Now, with the headset and the iPhone 4S I keep noticing that the connection breaks and all I can do to restore it is to turn the headset off and on every time. I listen to music all day long on the headset and this issue can get to irritating levels. Also sometimes I feel stupid as at work I'm one of the few 4S owners and, the iPhone being a state of the art device, my coworkers get to see me scrambling to figure out whether I need to bring the phone up to my ear or just one of the earpieces to my ear. The headset also has a answer/hang-up button that as of late, for the same reason, I cannot know for sure will start or end a call. I would hate to be forced to drop the headset as I really love it too.

The transition from iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 4

I purchased my iPhone 3GS not long ago and as such had to pay $399.99 when I purchased my new iPhone 4.
When my new iPhone 4 arrives from Apple what should I expect to have to do in order to get my ATT service transitioned from the 3GS to the iPhone 4? Will the new iPhone 4 come with a new SIM card that already has my current iPhone 3Gs phone number on it? Will I have to move the SIM card from the 3GS to the iPhone 4? Will I need to contact ATT to have service on the 3GS turned off?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It's really easy, you will need to backup your 3GS prior, then you would connect the iPhone 4 to iTunes and it will walk you through the process. It will ask you if this is for an existing line or new number, select the existing line and off you go. It will transfer the new number to the sim, deactivate the old sim on the 3GS and then restore the iPhone 4 with the backup you just did on 3GS. Once that is done you can wipe out the data on the 3GS or just leave it - the 3GS now becomes a glorified iTouch.

HT201328 after unlocking usa/att iphone 3gs , how to use it abroad with a foreign company simcard and service?

has an old iphone 3gs that was not in usage for awhle. I called ATT and had it unlocked officially. After resetting it here in USA I gave it as a gift to someone to use abroad with forign sim card and phone service.
However, at the foreign company office they were told that USA iphones can not be used outside USA.
Is that true?
So How can they use it abroad?

I'm fairly certain you should be able to use it abroad if it was unlocked by AT&T.
Did you restore it as a new phone and get a screen that said something similar to "Congratulations, your iPhone is unlocked"?
If so, it should work on just about any GSM carrier, though the other person would want to make sure their carrier supports the iPhone. I was able to use my US iPhone 4 in London just fine.
They may not have full functionality for data speeds outside the US, but that's the only issue I can think of. And I don't think that would affect the 3GS since it can't use anything faster than 3G anyway.

Iphone 3gs 'other' space ?

i bought a 3gs（hongkong version) 16GB three days ago. when i connect the itunes, i found my 3gs has about 200MB 'other' space.
then i restored to factory, it still has 190MB 'toher' space in it(did not do anything).
PLease help me, does my 3gs have something wrong?

i' m Chinese. in china there has a UNICOM IPHONE 3GS.
my two friends buy the unicom 3gs, and when they connect to the itunes it haven't 'other' space or only 50MB. their 3gs are also 3.1.3 system.
for this reason. i am a little worried.
yeasterday i call the apple 800, they told me: maybe the version is different so the hardware maybe different.

Iphone 3gs freezes after updating

my son has reset his iphone 3gs from the phone settings, i have not got a clue what OS version was on it, it was reset because his sister borrowed it and put a load of girlie music on it, now it just sits with apple logo and a frozen timer, there is a thin white line about a centimetre down on the screen running from the center to about a centimetre from the right side of the sceen, unit then shuts down and then restarts only to do the same thing again, wont show in i tunes version 5.0, was in perfect working order untill this issue, anyone know how to sort this out, Help please

Thank you for your help , (it was the iCloud acct.) but I am left with another guestion , why would my call logs be showing phone with arrow pointing right beside my logs . I don't have my call forwarding on, can this be part of the original problem ? Thanks so much as u can tell I'm not good at this devices. My iphone 3gs has recently broken and have put it in for repair but i may loose all data. which would be fine as i had backed it up on my itunes. However my computer has now broke. is there anyway of getting my restore back on another computer at all?

my iphone 3gs has broken [was in a sort of reboot loop] so that is being fixed and i get it back on Thursday. I may loose all data from it being fixed and that would of been fine as i have a recent back up on my i-tunes. However yesterday my laptop decided to turn itself off and not work anymore so thats going to be going to get fixed soon as well but is there anyway of getting my back up i had on my itunes on a different computer?

IOS 4.1 on iPhone 3G has broken corporate exchange sync (works on iPhone 4)

At work we use iPhone Configuration Utility to setup corporate exchange activesync account for VIP and IT users. Our configuration uses certificate.
The last iOS update (4.1) has broken the sync for iPhones 3G.
It still work with iPhone 4 (sorry we don't have 3GS for testing !) and it worked on iOS 4.02 on the 3G.
On the 3G iOS 4.1 Mail sync the folders of the mailbox but not the messages nor calendar and contacts.
We've tried recreating the certificate but nothing changes.
Google exchange sync still works fine.
Nothing has changed on the Exchange side (HTC phones are syncing well)
Does anybody has the same problem ? and howto fix it ?

Same problem here. While syncing Exchange e-mail & Contacts whether over wi-fi or 3G or Edge net, phone is basically unusable until the sync completes. I have phone set to sync e-mail every 15 minutes to save battery, but it seems that e-mail and contacts sync if you open them. So, if you open contacts to look up a phone number, scrolling becomes unresponsive, as does "selecting" a name or number, presumably until sync is complete (there are about 2,000 contacts in my directory). Seems to have started with 4.1. Likewise, the phone keypad is unresponsive until sync completes. Hit a number and nothing appears to happen, so I hit it again (only to have the number repeated several times in the display 10 or 15 seconds later once sync completes). Agree it's an apparent background priority issue. A pain in the neck.
My co-workers told me they thought quickest solution was to chuck it and get a Droid. I'm not quite to that point. Anybody know of a fix yet?

I recently bought a 3Gs and compared to my old 3G there's a hug difference! my 3Gs looks really yellow! I went to Apple store at the florida mall to verify if this was normal, brought my old 3G with me so they could notice the difference,so I made the appointment and when the so called "apple genius" saw my phone he noticed the difference and took my phone to change it to the back of the store, he came back in 3 minutes claiming that he changed my phone,when I looked at it,same yellow display I said to the guy that the display looks the same but he never gave me any other option, on my way out from the store i checked the info on the phone but it was the same IMEI as the one in the box, how could this be? if they supposedly change the phone, I asked to speak to a manager and explained to her my situation, the "genius" that "helped me" told the manager that what he did was only changing the display and since I didn't like it,he went back and put back again the display that came with the phone... at this point I got really upset and I asked the manager to speak to the "genius" and asked why he lied about the situation, the manager said that she would bring the guy so we could settle this situation,they left me waiting on the store 45 minutes and none of them showed up... Great Apple store service... Yeah right!! F#$%^ them!
