Speaker hum

I upgraded from Audition 3.0 to CS5.5.  So far, my experience has been dysmal.  My monitors now have a high pitched hum coming out of them sounding like a ground loop.  Problem is, no other software package causes this to happen.  If I shut down Audition, the hum goes away.    Does anyone else have this issue?  Originally I had a cheap soundblaster external card but that one didn't work at all (worked in 3.0 just fine).  I then upgraded to a Behringer interface.  Now the music comes through, I just get this terrible whine out the speakers at the same time.  Has anyone else had a poor experience with getting the basics to work with this software package?
Thanks

My only suggestion is to make sure that the Behringer interface is set to the same sample rate as the CS5.5 session sample rate and that you are using the asio driver for that interface.

  • SPEAKER "HUMMING/STATIC" SOUND...AGAIN! Please help!!!

I sent in my MBP on the 27th of August, got it back yesterday. i have been using it all day today, and the speaker hum/screech from the right speaker is back again!!!!
    I have a 15" 2.16 C2D, 1gb ram and all that stuff.
Here are the stuff they "fixed"
    630-7709 PCBA, LIO/AUDIO (M59) MBPRO 15"
    632-0430 FLEX ASSY, LIO/AUDIO,(M59) MBPRO 15"
Now when i use the computer, the hum is very noticable especially when the room is quiet. I need this laptop for school, and I've been without it for 2 weeks. What's going on? Also, my laptop is running at 128F* is that normal?

Does this sound problem occur all the time - even on battery power miles away from the house?

  • PPC Mac G4-Front Speaker Humming Noise

Yesterday I turned the CPU on as usual and then I started to hear a "buzz humming noise" coming out from the front speaker. I disconnected all my external devices, fix the permissions, Zap the Pram and the buzz continued for the entire day and through the night. I thought the front speaker had give up on me so I booked at the Genius Bar to replace it this morning. Shut down the CPU last night. Turned it back on this morning and the "buzz humming noise" totally disappear, vanish! I canceled my reservation at the "Genius Bar" but the whole issue got me a little concerned as to how that happened and then all of the sudden it vanished. That makes me think of a spyware or a security issue if anyone can provoke such a thing from any external meanings. Anyone have any thoughts on this? ...Or experienced such an issue similar to this one? Thanks!

Hi everyone I just thought to come back here and answer to my own question since I found the bug that caused the humming noise on the CPU front speaker after all this time. It was that little Google Application called: "Google Notifier Appl." If you are having the same problem, delete that application. There is a bug there that interferes with the Computer Sound Board causing a terrible humming noise enough to annoy "da heck" of anyone. I Hope that helps!

  • Flat Panel Causing Speaker Humming Help Needed!!!

Hey, I got a question. I got a mac book pro and I got the mbox pro 2. I also got a apple hd display 23 flat panel and Event ALP 5 speakers with a S100 Sub. When I first hooked everything up, I started getting a humming sound from the speakers. So I thought it was that I had bad wires connect to the speakers. But I found out that wasnt the problem. So by accident, I miss and unplug the cord hooking the 23" flat panel from the mbox pro. So when I did that, the huming from the speaker stoped. So can you help me, cuz i wanna be able to hook up my 23 flat panel to my mbox without the speaker huming.

Well, I'll at least give you points for neatness. However, that is about it.
I didn't really look through all of your logic but I would highly recommend that you check out the examples for implementing state machines. Your application suffers greatly in that once you start you basically jumped off the cliff. There is no way to alter your flow. Once in the sequence structure you MUST execute every frame. If you use a state machine architecture you can take advantage of shift registers and eliminate most of your local variables. You will also be able to stop execution if necessary such as a user abort or an error. Definitely look at using subVIs. Try to avoid implementing most of your program in formula nodes. You have basically written most of your processing there. While formula nodes are easier for very complex equations most of what you have can easily be done in native LabVIEW code. Also if you create subVIs you can iterate over the data sets. You don't need to duplicate the code for every data set.
I tell this to new folks all the time. Take some time to get comfortable with data flow programming. It is a different paradigm than sequential text based languages but once you learn it it is extremely powerful. All your data flow to control execution rather than relying on the sequence frame structure. A state machine will also help quite a bit.

  • MacBook Pro External Speaker Hum With External Display

When I plug my MacBook Pro into a set of external speakers, I get a loud-to-deafening hum depending on the volume that the speakers are set to. However, this only happens if I have an external monitor plugged in. I unplugged the macbook, and this did not stop the hum, and I turned off the extra display and this did not stop the hum, neither did actually unplugging it from its power source, the only thing that stops it is taking the vga cord out of the displayport to vga adapter.
Any ideas as to why this hum happens? It's not always just a static hum either, occasionally there are crackles, like from a record or something.

thinking that you are using a stereo cable 1/8" to 1/8" there can be a few explanations to that .. one the cable could damaged internally mixing audio signals .. or it can be that the wiring diagram is a bit off ( the jack has 3 connectors on it ) ..or the input you use on your speakers were not meant for a stereo cable .. the jack input you use on your speakers could be damaged ..or that hole you plug them in was not an input at all
Now that you are over the problem .. These don't really matter much ..

  • Inspire 6.1 6700 speaker hum

Got this system a few weeks ago for my PC, and they worked fine up till the other morning when I switched on to be greeted by a very loud hum from all 7 speakers. All worked fine when computer was on the night before.
Have tried disconnecting all satellite speakers and audio leads from main bass unit, but hum is still the same.
Have looked at circuit boards on the volume control and in the main bass unit, and there are no obvious signs of part failure or loose wiring.
Power supply is a sealed unit, so I can not take a look inside. However voltage output is 6v~ instead of the 3.5v~ specified on the power supply.
My guess is the power supply is knackered.
Can anyone out there confirm my suspicion or suggest an alternative reason.
Also, if I need a new power supply can anyone suggest where I could get one and for how much. I live in the UK.
I hope someone can help please....

That might be a good idea beacause your onboardchip doesn't really support surrounssound. For DVD-Videos etc. it must support Dolby or DTS sound and most Games need EAX. Unfortunately AFAIK only Creative Soundblaster support EAX above version 2. The cheapest way would be a Sound Blaster Live! 24-Bit, if you want EAX 4 it should be an Audigy 2 ZS, which isn't much more expensive if you chose the bulk-version. If you want the newest technique it would be an X-Fi extreme Musik that costs almost twice as much as the Audigy.

  • Inspire 6100 5.1 - static from the front middle satellite

Speakers are new. I've just bought them and brought home to set up.
Probably should have connected them and checked right away before setting everything up.
So I connect the speakers, switch them on and... I hear static from the middle speaker.
I checked if i haven't set the volume too high. Nope. Volume settings have no effect on the volume of the buzz. Then I connected the middle speaker to different slot. No humm. Connected other speaker to the middle speaker slot - it was humming too, disconnected the subwoofer from pc - middle speaker humming.
It's not that loud. If there's any noise or sound in the room it's almost unnoticable but in silence or when I move closer to the speaker it's annoying. I wuld expect something like this from some of these 'noname' speakers you get for free with PC sets but not from Creative product ;/
Can i fix it somehow? Is it something normal I have to learn to live with or should I make a complaint?

  • Overmodulated Output Audio on "Client Monitor"

I have been using an old Sony SD monitor to playback for clients. The video and audio go out of FCP to my JVC BRHD50 via Firewire then to the montior with SVHS for video and RCA for audio through a Makey Mixer to powered speakers, no problems.
Now, I upgrade to a Sony Bravia HD monitor. Video is fine, audio seems hugely overmodulated, just a garble. This is the case whether I route it as before or just try to use the built in speakers to the monitor. I found this previous discussion but am not sure if it applies and why I would suddenly have this issue:
Speaker hum from Rokit 5s when external video monitor is plugged

If I switch audio to playbach through the Kona instead of the Firewire it is clear but out of sync. Thanks.

I would check to see if they're any menus on the Bravia that deal with audio input. Sounds like you may need some sort of "attenuation (if that's the right term)" to make it work without adjusting something on the monitor.

  • SB Audigy 2 ZS Notebook in multiple soundcard configurat

    Hi,
My purpose for buying the A2ZS was so that I can play on one card and record on the other, or play two sources simultaneously. The program I use (Swift Pro V) supports this, and for the most part, I've got it working correctly. However, I get speaker hum from the on-board card. Either through the notebook speakers, or through headphones if they're plugged in. It's not very loud, but it's there... and it dri'ves me nuts.
Also, is it possible to have separate controls available for the two sound cards?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Fixed; For some reason, only a reboot was needed..

  • Humming sound coming from speaker output

I did create a discussion on this before, but can't find it anywhere.
I have a Mac Pro 4,1 and recently noticed a humming sound on my wireless headphones. I thought it might be other wireless products interfiering with the headphone. However when I changed the preferences to internal speaker and line out the humming sound is still there.
I originally thought it may be an earthing issue but the humming noise sounds more like something interfiering.
The only update I have recently carried out was to install two SSD drives - one running Mountain Lion and the other running Snow Leopard.
Is it possible for a SSD drive to interfier with the video card?

    Hmmm interesting.
Where is this 'Thumbs' application located and how do I get to the tick box?
I have also just realised that while Logic Pro 9 is running the 30 second delay humming sound vanishes...
Apple support engineers are on it in my case

  • Speaker buzz/hum with two Macs

I have recently purchased a Mac Pro Dual 2.8 Quad Core Xeon to go with my crusty MBP 2.16. I am using a Yamaha speaker system (2 desktop satellites and a sub). The Yamaha has two 1/8" inputs on the back of the subwoofer. When I plug the two computers in, one input each, the Yamaha system emits a prominent buzzing/bassy hum. This doesn't occur with either computer plugged in alone, only when both are plugged in. I tried using a Y cord so that both would go into one input, and it still buzzed/hummed. I seem to recall this same thing happening years ago with a different brand of speaker system. Is there a way to hook the two Macs up without the humming?? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello pingvuiini,
It almost sounds like you have a ground loop happening.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundloop%28electricity%29
Are both comps plugged into the same power?
Have you switched the 1/8" cables around to see if one is bad?
Does it buzz if you unplug the MBP from power and run from the battery?
Do you have any audio cables laying on top of the computer power supplies?
Sorry to hit you with so many questions so quickly.
I have a very similar set up:
    Yamaha speakers w/sub
    (2) 1/8" inputs
MacPro 2.8 quad and a powerbook conected, no buzz.
I would check these things first.
    Good luck!

  • External speaker buzzing and/or humming?

    I have a mid-2012 macbook pro 13.
Whenever it is plugged into external speakers via the 3.5mm jack, a loud humming or buzzing is emitted from the external speakers. When music is being played through these speakers, the humming is less noticable but still present in the background.
Is there any way to fix or reduce this and what is the cause?

With this kind of question I would often do a web search for the system specifications myself to see if those provide a hint, but you have not posted exact model types for your computer or the Bose system and searching for "iMac" specifications will cover about 30 models.  This model Bose has audio input but I have no idea if that's what you have.
    http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/digital_music_systems/sounddock_ systems/sounddock/index.jsp
Since it seems you have determined the sound out is working for the iMac through the speaker socket it sounds more likely it is the cable or something with the Bose unit.  You might wish to approach Bose support with this information.

  • Airport Express Speaker output very quiet with 60-cycle hum

I've previously hooked up my Airport Express to my stereo system via AirTunes, and it worked fine. But I just moved and set up my home network with my Airport Express connected to the stereo with the mini-stereo adapter. But now, when I play music over AirTunes, I can hear the music very faintly, but it's about the same volume as a 60-cycle electrical interference hum, and definitely not listenable. So I know the music is streaming and the AirPort is receiving, but I'm wondering if it's an electrical problem with the AirPort or output jack, or is there some software or hardware fit I can do myself. I've plugged in & out the cord, it works with an iPod, it's connected to a non-Phono jack of the stereo (AUX port), and I've reset the AirPort Express unit. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hello AOSmith. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
To rule out your stereo or audio cable, try substituting a pair of stereo headphones plugged directly into the AX's audio port. Do you still hear the hum? If so, then the problem is either with the AX itself or the power source is not properly shielded. Try connecting the AX to a known good power strip; one that has surge protection and/or noise cancelling capability would be ideal, and then, plug this into the outlet that you had the AXn connected to. Did this help? If not, then unfortunately, the problem may be with either the AX's audio and/or power circuit.

  • Why does my speaker make a humming noise?

Its kind of a high pitched whine. It's there whether I am listening to anything or not, anytime I have the volume on. The higher the volume, the louder the hum. It's less than two months old.

did you ever find out what was causing the problem? The same issue just began with my phone. the audio recording is fine for voice memos, phone calls, etc. but the video is just a buzzing sound
