Speaker made weird sound, volume level is now decreased

I was watching a video clip online when all of a sudden there was this weird noise (kind of sounded like the sound of dial-up internet connecting, except on steroids). It only lasted for about a second but then I noticed the volume on the video clip I was currently watching got significantly lower.
Now I can't have my volume level any lower than 40% because I can barely hear anything when it is lower. Even when I press the F4, F5 function to lower and raise volume, I don't hear the traditional "pop" sound effect until around 40% or higher.
I tried playing music on my itunes, and audio drops when I am lower than around 30% maximum capacity. Anyone have an idea of what the problem is?

Double click to bring up recent app bar-scroll to the left until you see playback controls/screen brightness.
Do you see the speaker icon?
Is it muted(line through the icon)?
Is the volume slider turned up?
Have you tried a reset?

  • Fluctuating sound/volume level?

I noticed that when playing music in iTunes the volume level somehow fluctuates. Suddenly the music is noticable louder than before. The problem is, it's not really reproducable (it doesn't happen that often but, erm, often enough to bug me). I don't even know if it's a MacBook error (from all the bad luck I already had with this thing, I just assume it). I'm already trying to test my speakers (Creative) on my iPod - so far nothing.
Is there some way to test if the sound hardware is ok on my MacBook?

Yes, use the installer disk and restart while pressing "D".
is the sound is flucktuated per songs or in one songs?
because some songs that had lower bitrate or poor mixing might sounded lower or louder than normar standard songs.
If that what happen, you can use sound check at the iTunes preference to put all songs at the same level.
Try to reset the PRAM to "refresh" the hardware to factory default, and hope that good enough to fix it, if not, consult with apple store near you.
    Good Luck.

  • QT Screen Recording made weird sounds

Earlier today, I tried to  make a screen recording with QT. When I clicked on the Start button, my computer began to make a very strange series of weird electronic "Outer Limits"-like sounds. It happened twice, but hasn't happened again. I was running Adobe Indesign, Mac Mail, and TimeMachine and Sophos Anti-Virus in the background at the time. I have the latest Yosemite release and a Dec 2012 27" iMac. Does anyone know what this might be?
I wanted to attach a screen movie but the Insert Video button is grayed out. Kinda ironic on a QuickTime forum.

Access to an expert will usually be better than using Support Communities, or course.
It's extremely unlikely that you have a virus. However, unexplainable noises are worth investigating. First, keep a written log so you can document when you noticed an issue; describe the problem, and when it happened. Next, make sure you regularly back up your data on an external drive.
The sound hear might be the fan, but it's hard to tell without more information.

  • SB Recon3Di September, 2014 Driver install significantly reduce volume level

    Hey,
Microsoft Updates installed the latest SB driver for my 64bit Alienware MX18 and my volume level is now < 50% of what it was before the install. I checked to make sure all volume/mixer levels are at 100%. Does anybody have an idea on what may be causing this? Should I roll back the driver for the SB?
    Thanks

Most likely not. The Recon3D is a dedicated sound card that is removable from your system if you have such a card. The 3di most likely a software interface on top of a Realtek onboard sound card. The hardware based Recon3D software suite and driver will not work with a software based interface on top of a Realtek chipset.

  • Weird sound on left speaker

    Hello!
After 30 - 60 sec my MBP making some weird sound click. It's coming from left speaker.
I search from Google and I made 'disc check - mayby my HD needs repair. OK, then Disk Utilitie said "Volume header needs minor repair". Reboot on Install CD and made Disk Repair. OK, now it's everything OK... BUT that weird sound is still. Every 1 - 5 min it's clicking.

    I found that link: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/audioupdate2007001.html
Mayby it's problem with audio? How I can install it to 10.4.11? This update is only for 10.4.10

  • Volume troubleshooting - weird sounds

    Hi,
i just bought an iBook G4 (12'') and when i first turn it on and want to change the volume with the F4 and F5 keys, instead of the specific sound supposed to come out (like a bubble) it kind of bugs and takes a while before actually carrying out the command...
I thus hear a low, and sort of weird sound.
However, when I open iTunes, it works just fine... It's no real problem actually but I'm afraid it might only be the tip of the iceberg.
I have to admit that I did give it a slight bump before noticing that problem, but then again I only bought 10 days ago without yet having made full use of it...
(I also checked the CD burner and it works fine, so how could a bump not affect the -sensitive- CD burner and affect the volume keys... ?)
does anybody have a clue... ?
    THank you very much.

Do you have a lot of applications running when it does this? I find that when my computer is doing a lot, there will be a delay before it changes the volume level. The sound is also sometimes a little different. Does it do this when you don't have anything besides the system running? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. It's just because the computer is using a lot of it's memory at that moment. You can always add more RAM, and that should solve it. But it's not that big of a problem

  • Using compressor DVD Studio Pro 4 will only accept ac3 format in the burn process. ac3 makes a nnsense of the good sound delivered, 30% reduction in volume, auto volume levelling giving unwanted volume variations. Used to be able to burn using AIFF/WAVE,

AS Above. Edited in FCPX. Excellent sound file. Using Compressor 4 to DVD Studio 4. Wanting AIFF or WAVE sound for acurate sound.
Previously DVD Studio 4 has accepted AIFF etc and delivered sound as reuired. Now, during the burn process everything other than ac3 is declined as 'video bit rate too high', but will burn if the AIFF format is replaced with ac3 (which I presume meanss the 'video bit rate too high' is referring to the sound file)
The issue with ac3 format is the huge reduction in original volume and worse, the 'auto volume levelling' that makes a nonsense of the original soundtrack - with simply aweful unwanted variations in volume Throughout the  the dvd.
I have tried everything I can think of to get around this. The 'volume gain' in compressor doesn't make any difference. Exporting just AIFF and the Video to DVD 4 doesn't make any difference, it always declines anything but the aweful sound ac3 delivers.
I have customers awaiting a musci DVD, not with thei quality I can't.
    Cheers
    Phil

The total video bit rate is determined by audio & video. Depending on what rate your video file was encoded at will determine how much room is left for audio. PCM(aiff/wav) audio requires a bigger piece of the pie. Video bit rate too high means your overall(video+audio) rate is going above 9Mbps which the format won't allow. The only way to use aiff would be to lower your video file's data rate. The length of your program is also a factor in all of this.
I had some problems in the past with using aiff instead ac3. Although there shouldn't be any issue I experienced playback issues on some players that couldn't be explained but were cleared up by ac3.  I have been using the same specs as Dave's suggestion for almost nine years and have not had any issues with mix, quality, or levels.

    Hi saiyed adil,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It appears that your iPhone 5s sometimes produces low sound, but a restart corrects it.
It can take some time to isolate and resolve intermittent issues like this one, and I'd recommend going through the steps in this guide the next time it occurs:

  • Sudden, freaky speaker feedback and weird sound?

I have a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo 15" MacBook Pro with 2 GB memory, running 10.6.7.
I record a lot of voiceover on this machine via Sound Studio and Audacity (and sometimes Garage Band) and a USB microphone to use in Keynote videos and presentations.
Everything has been working perfectly until all of the sudden, when I open any music related program or plug in a USB microphone the computer makes a loud freaky feedback echo noise. Almost like you hear at a concert when they get too close to the speakers. You can only hear it if the computer volume is in the middle or higher and it does get louder or softer with the by increasing or decreasing the volume.
Now, I thought this was a problem with one of the music related programs (Sound Studio, Audacity, Garage Band) since it only seemed to happen when they are open....
But, yesterday I was closing the laptop with NO programs open at all and RIGHT BEFORE the lid closed and the computer when to sleep, the speakers made the sound. Again with NOTHING open or running.
So I'm at a loss. The sound is now occurring randomly. Do I have bad speakers or something else going on?
Any thoughts or help is GREATLY appreciated.

Yeah I had tried that before, no dice on that though. Thank you anyway.
I actually have seemed to have fixed the problem! I muted Stereo Mix in recording control.

  • Volume level on line-in at 100% but still low sound level when I rec

For many years and hundreds of times I have successfully recorded wave files using a wave editor (Goldwave). I have transferred albums, tapes, and now satellite radio by running stereo cables from my receiver into my line-in on my sound card (using a stereo-to-mono adapter). The volume level on the line-in was always too loud on my old sound card, so I always turned the volume of the line-in down to about 20% and it worked just fine.
Two weeks ago my old sound card fried (don't know the brand - got it from a friend, and I've already thrown it out). I replaced it with a Sound Blaster Li've! 24-Bit. However, using the same configuration (receiver into line-in on card), when I record now the volume level that it records at is way too low. Even when I set the line-in level at 00% the volume that it records at is not even half the level it was with my old sound card set at 20%. Basically, when I record now at 00% on the line-in, the volume level it records at is too low. I have no problem with the line-out level - when I play mp3's or anything else on my hard dri've the volume is crisp, clear, and plenty loud at 40%.
But what is the deal with the low volume recording level? Is there another setting I need to change? Or do I not have the right sound card to do this with? Please let me know if it is a setting issue, or if I just need a different sound card to do this. Thanks.

I've had an Audigy2-nx for a week and have struggled with low
    recording levels as well.
Have you tried selecting "what you hear" instead of "Line-In"?
This gives me about 20% higher input levels.
I gave up on MedeaSource for variable bitrate recordings and
moved to dbPowerAmp. (direct recording to lame-mp3)
Others here mention good VBR recordings with MedeaSource, but
it won't exceed 90kbs (average) on my system.
I'm finally getting decent recordings from line-in.

  • DVD volume levels dip as sound peaks

This is driving me mad and I'd really appreciate some kind of explanation. Perhaps one of you guys can help? If I'm watching a DVD on my iBook and an obtrusive sound is fired off (a gunshot for example), the volume levels appear to plummet. This can be DAMNED irritating, especially when the volume dies in the middle of a conversation because someone on-screen flicked open a lighter or something.
I tried watching Casino Royale tonight and encountered the problem reasonably early in the film, with the first gunshot. I tried resolving the problem by disconnecting my JBL Creature II speakers and using my Sennheiser HD 485 headphones. Still the same problem (although perhaps not as noticeable). I decided to try out the Sennheisers with my Griffin iMic and watch the same part back again. Once again the same problem.
I did a little research on the Internet and I can't seem to find anything relevant. It's really winding me up. Unfortunately, I don't have another DVD player to try it out on at the moment. I presumed it must be a lazy bit of DVD encoding on the manufacturer's part, but the problems have been noticeable in both Casino Royale and Mullholland Drive in particular.
Is my iBook's circuitry starting to suffer or is this a common problem? Is it the disc? I don't notice any problems with iTunes. Is there some kind of auto-volume option I have turned on that I don't know about?
    Cheers for reading.

Is there a reason why you don't use Sound Check on both iTunes and your iPod? The one thing I have read is that you need to update your songs on your iPod when you turn on Sound Check in ITunes, for them to to take affect on your iPod.
The volume setting you're using in the individual song(s) should not affect the output level through the universal dock, but as you are noticing it does change the volume on your earbuds. Not exacly sure why the dramtic increase in volume though.
I suggest you try putting the volume on the songs you changed back to default, and use Sound Check on both iTunes and your iPod. Try a couple songs, see what happens.
And again, in order for this to work properly, according to Apple, you need to reload all your songs on your iPod after you have turned this on in iTunes.
    Good luck!

  • Please Help! Sound is stopping in every 5 seconds until volume level is changed.

I have G60-535DX model and recently I came across a strange problem. Sound of my laptop speaker works fine for 5 seconds and then stops. When I change the volum level either from task bar volume icon or through keyboard shortcut it starts playing again for next 5 seconds. Please note that it has no issue with headphones.
I have used windows troubleshooting wizard, checked in device manager, drivers are up-to-date. Could you please post the solution for it?

  • Volume level on speaker/earphones

Is there anyway to increase the volume level.  I'm trying to watch a DVD on Windows Media Player and the sound level isn't adequate, either with the speakers or with noise-canceling earphones.

its probably a problem with the earphones or when you connect it to a external audio system such as speakers or earphones, it automatically adjusts it to the last volume setting that was connected with (e.g. if you connected your earphones to the 3rd volume and disconnect the earphones and reconnect it, it will go back to the 3rd volume level.)
