Speaker output problems with X-Fi XtremeMu

Today, I bought an X-Fi XtremeMusic card because I was sick of trying to coax my onboard audio to work. I own a set of Logitech Z-5500Ds, and the rear and centre speakers were gathering more and more dust, while my onboard sound refused to work. I should add, my onboard sound did work for a few weeks, but stopped working after what I assume was me installing something that conflicted with it. Anyway, enough about that. I purchased the X-Fi XtremeMusic in the hopes that it would resolve my problems.
Before doing anything, I disabled my onboard audio in the BIOS. After this, I put the card in my computer and installed all the SB X-Fi software and drivers. I restarted, as directed, and when I logged on into my account, The Creative speaker set-up greeted me. I went through the process of selecting my speaker setup (5.) and testing the channels. Left and Right channels worked perfectly, which was expected. When I tested the Rear Left and Rear Right speakers, however, the sound came from the Left and Right speakers, respecti'vely. Moving on to the the Center/Sub test, I was even more disappointed when the Center sound came out of the Left, Right AND Center speakers, and the Sub sound came out as a quiet white noise from both the Left and Right speakers. Now this is EXACTLY what was happening before I bought the card, and I really don't know what to do.
I really want to resolve this issue, so I ask for anyone's help. As of now, I've uninstalled all the drivers and software from Creative, and ready for any advice I'm given.
Thanks
EDIT: I should also add that I'm POSITIVE that everything is plugged in correctly, and that my Rear and Center speakers, as well as my sub work, because I've hooked up my speakers to my Xbox via Optical, and they all work perfectly.Message Edited by FlamingNinja on 07-06-2006 05:28 AM

OK, I had a go at installing the drivers again. Here's the deal. In the speaker setup, the same as before is happening. I ignored this, and continued through the setup. To see if it would even output any sound to my rear speakers, I opened up the Entertainment Window and activated CMSS-3D, and moved it to 50%. Sure enough, it outputs sound to my rear speakers. Can anyone suggest why the test doesn't work though?
I'll try testing a 5. DVD tomorrow and seeing what happens. I'm really hoping the speaker setup is in the wrong.Message Edited by FlamingNinja on 07-06-2006 07:46 AM

• Audio input/output problems with Mac Mini

at first, my sound just stopped working all together and for some reason the monitor was getting no signal from the mac mini. i unplugged everything for a minute and plugged it back in and the monitor was working again, but still nothing with the sound. no sound coming out from even the internal speaker, and the audio in jack (which i use frequently) stopped working as well.
this is the really strange part: after tinkering around trying to fix the problem i realized the only sound that comes out it is from the internal speaker, but it only comes out when i have something connected to the headphones jack.
has anyone ever had a problem like this? i'm just trying to figure out if it is something i can take care of myself, or if i might need some repairs done.

OK, then two things to do.
First reset parameter RAM - it's an area of non-volatile memory used for system settings and hardware configuration. It it gets corrupted, it can cause odd problems.
Reset PRAM
-Shut down the computer.
-Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in the next step but one.
-Turn on the computer.
-Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
-Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
-Release the keys.
Next, perform an SMC reset. The SMC is the device which controls system hardware and devices, so if there is a problem with hardware components not functioning, it could be that.
To reset the SMC on an Intel mini:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
-Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.

• Griffin iMic output problems with iTunes

I bought an Griffin iMic so that I could listen to my iTunes library through my home stereo. However, I am having problems with the output. I have tried several different ways of connecting the iMic to my stereo, but I am not getting any sound output. It SHOULD work but it is not. Are there any known problems with iTunes and iMic and Max OS X 10.2.8?

I got this message from Griffin Technology
Technical Support, and it seemed to help with my sound quality output, even though it talks more about sound input.
Hello,
Sorry for the delay in my response.
First, let's make sure you're getting an input signal.
The easiest way to make sure that you're receiving an input signal
from the iMic is to go to your System Preferences/Sound Preferences.
Click on the INPUT tab and select iMic from the list of devices.
Below the list of devices is a Input Volume slider and a virtual
input meter. If you're seeing those lights move, there is a signal
coming into the device. The Input Volume slider is there to boost
up or help drop the amount of signal needed. A good signal should
stay somewhere around the middle of those meter lights.
Then click on output and be sure you have "built-in audio" selected.
Then you will have to either open Final Vinyl and select "preview"
to hear the audio come through your speakers.
Also check your Audio/MIDI Setup. Open your Applications folder
from the Finder, and scroll through the applications, down to
"Utilities." Select that, and then choose "Audio/Midi." From here,
set the "Properties For" or "Settings For" to iMic USB Audio System.
Then set both the input and the output to 16bit 2 channel 44100Hz.
Hope this helps,
Rachel

• 5.1 speaker mapping problem with X

I recently created a dual-boot configuration with XP and Vista , and at the same time upgraded to an X-Fi Xtremegamer card. I am using Klipsh 5. ultimate speakers, which worked perfectly with my previous Audigy 2. In Vist, 5. surround does not map properly. I otherwords, when I test each speaker in the windows speaker control, the test sounds do not come out of the correct speakers as follows:?Test Left front - sound comes out of Right Rear SpeakerTest Center is OKTest Right Front is OKTest Right Rear - sound comes out of Left Rear SpeakerTest Left Rear - sound comes out of Left Front Speaker?All speaker cables are connected correctly and this occurs whether CMSS-3D is on or off. Surprizingly, the surround sound in XP seems OK but there is no way to individually test each speaker as in Vista, at least none that I know of. Has anyone else experienced this problem Vista and X-Fi?Thanks for any help.

yeah, I used mp3s first, I also have run games and videos and stuff like that. If all my settings are set to 5.1 surround, then I should at least get sound out of them, even if it's not true-blue surround sound, right? I mean, that's the way I've always understood it. You may not get the positional sounds, like someone sneaking up behind you in a FPS coming out of only the back speakers, but it should at least play sound in general.
Maybe I'm wrong? I don't know~
I have gotten sound out of the rears while hooked up to the rear output plug, but only very faintly. That's what I'm not sure what's going on. I'm just reluctant to just go buy a new card without knowing that that's a guaranteed fix. You know? Throwing money at a problem is all well and good when you have a lot of money :P

• Severe problems with X-Fi XtremeMu

Just got a X-Fi XtremeMusic and it's causing havoc with my computer.
My computer:
ASUS A8 MX Motherboard
Geforce 7600 GT graphics card
024mb of DDR 3200 RAM
Help please!
First of all I took out my old Li've! card and replaced it with the X-Fi. On first boot into windows, I was greeted with a black screen and my monitor was displaying "No Signal". Then I tried Linux too to see if it was just a windows problem. There it was just a white and grey screen. Obviously my graphics card was not working for some reason.
So, I took out my GeForce and used the onboard graphics (Radeon Xpress). I could boot into Windows but now my internet wasn't working. Anyway, I put in the CD and installed the software. Seemed to go fine. Boot up, fine also. When I go play sound however, it plays for about a second, is blank for 2 seconds, plays for another second and so on. No amount of fiddling with the settings seems to change anything.
Slowly giving up, I try to get my internet at least working. I disable the onboard network card and put in a spare D-Link one into a spare PCI slot. Still no internet! XP says that network cable is unplugged. As soon as I take out the X-FI card however, both work fine. As does my Geforce.
So, I have no sound, no graphics card and no internet with the X-Fi in my computer.
I have tried fiddling with every bios setting, disabling and enabling things, tried placing the X-Fi in different PCI slots, trying different amounts of RAM in different configurations, disconnecting dri'ves etc. Nothing seems to work. I am also using my newest BIOS version and I have also downloaded the lastest drivers from Creative.
Anyone know what's wrong? The card faulty perhaps? Help!

OK, I had a go at installing the drivers again. Here's the deal. In the speaker setup, the same as before is happening. I ignored this, and continued through the setup. • Digital output problem with new Audigy 2 driv

I updated to the 02.08.0004 drivers today and everything seemed fine till after I calibrated my speakers within speaker settings. I have Z680s hooked up to a Audigy 2 PCI card using both digital out and analog. As with previous drivers I calibrated using 6 Channel direct input.
Anyway, the problem is that when I use windows media player or any other media app, with the speakers set to Coax input (digital) I get the sound coming from the rear 2 speakers, instead of through the front 2 as it should. However, this only happens if I choose a speaker calibration under speaker settings.
It's a bit annoying because I didn't have this problem before. Anyone else have this problem or a solution? Or is it a case of Rolling back to an old driver and hoping the problem doesn't stick?
Thanks

Anyone have any ideas?

• Output Problem with my problem help please

Here is the Instruction to the problem:
An interesting problem in number theory is sometimes called the ?necklace problem.? This problem begins with two single-digit numbers. The next number is obtained by adding the first two numbers together and saving only the ones-digit. This process is repeated until the ?necklace? closes by returning to the original two numbers. For example, if the starting numbers are 1 and 8, the output would look like:
18976392134718
and below is my program:
public class Necklace
         public static void main(String[] args)
              int f, s, sum, n, p;
              String first = JOptionPane.showInputDialog ("Enter first number:");
              String second = JOptionPane.showInputDialog ("Enter second number:");
              f = Integer.parseInt (first);
              s = Integer.parseInt (second);
              sum = f + s;
              n = sum % 10;
              p = s;
              while (!(p == f && n ==s))
                   sum = n + p;
                   p = n;
                   n = sum % 10;
              String output = f +""+ s +""+ ++n+"";
              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (null, output, "Necklace", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
My problem is that I don't know or have any idea how to make the output so it will show all the numbers in between, my ouput it only show the first 3 number, 1 8 and 9

My problem is that I don't know or have any idea how to make the output so it will show all the numbers in between, my ouput it only show the first 3 number, 1 8 and 9Hello and welcome to the forum. First and foremost, please use code tags when posting code here so that your code will retain its formatting and thus will be readable -- after all, your goal is to get as many people to read your post and understand your code as possible, right?
To do this, highlight your pasted code (please be sure that it is already formatted when you paste it into the forum; the code tags don't magically format unformatted code) and then press the code button, and your code will have tags.
Another way to do this is to manually place the tags into your code by placing the tag
above your pasted code and the tag
below your pasted code like so:
// your code goes here
      // notice how the top and bottom tags are different
For instance, here is your code with tags:
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class Necklace {
       public static void main(String[] args) {
          int f, s, sum, n, p;
          String first = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter first number:");
          String second = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter second number:");
          f = Integer.parseInt(first);
          s = Integer.parseInt(second);
          sum = f + s;
          n = sum % 10;
          p = s;
          while (!(p == f && n == s))
             sum = n + p;
             p = n;
             n = sum % 10;
          String output = f + "" + s + "" + ++n + "";
          JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, output, "Necklace",
                   JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
}Next, you can declare your output String before the while loop, and then concatonate a new int on to this inside the loop. Perhaps an even better way is to use a StringBuilder object.

• External Speaker Static: Problem with audio jack?

I don't believe that anyone on the forums had the same question.
I am having trouble with my macbook pro.  Whenever I plug in external speakers, I get bad static (very loud, about as loud as the speaker's audio itself).  I have tested this on multiple speakers and get the same results on all of them.  When used on another computer, the speakers work fine.  This suggests that it is something wrong with my audio jack for my mac.
I noticed that the 3.5 mm plug doesn't go all the way into the jack.  There is about a millimeter millimeter or two of space This isn't much, but may be resulting in the static.  I have tried forcing the plug all the way in, but it still does not go in.  Any ideas?
I am trying to avoid having to get a bluetooth speaker or anything wireless.

Headphones don't induce grounding problems like external speakers. I am guessing the external speakers were all amplified speakers, with built-in amps and some sort of mains power supply. Perhaps you also have some peripherals such as a display connected to the Macbook Pro.
Try this: disconnect all peripherals from the MBP (including the Magsafe power plug) except the external speakers and see if you get static. I will also guess that the static is more of a whine/buzz that changes whenever the computer does something different.
If this works, then you have a common ground problem. The cheapest way to solve this is a Radio Shack ground loop isolator on the speaker cable,
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062214
High fidelity versions are also available, more like $300USD.

• X-Fi speaker assignment problems with Elite Pro and T7900 speak

Ok, so this appears to be a very common problem on these boards and I'm not so sure that a solution exists.
I have wired everything up correctly, however, my front speakers are coming from behind me and my rear speakers are coming from in front of me. As well as that, I cannot get sound from my front speaker and if I mess around with the THX settings, i sometimes manage to get the side channels coming from my rear or front speakers. This is very annoying. Why is the speaker assignment not automatic? WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE INSANE ASSIGNMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM!!!!
Does anyone have the slightest clue as to how I can get the right channels to come from the right speakers? I'm getting fed up with this. I wouldn't mind but my older Audigy card did all this by its-self!
Thanks in advance!

In no way a 300W Power Supply has enough power for all your stuff.
2 HDD's, a power-hungry Pentium, a xfi card, dvd burner and many other stuff ...
Problems like this can happen then if your power supply has not enough power to handle all this stuff.
Get a better powersupply that can handle your stuff and I am sure it will work again. In a few cases its also possible that YOU damage your hardware on this way, if it can not get enough stable power, it might mess up your hardware. I also already blowed up a harddisk one day because I have connected too much stuff to one cable. I had 3 HDD's, Mainboard, Lights, Fans and DVD connected to one single cable. All devices there did not get enough power, harddisks made crazy sounds (on/off/on/off very fast) and after that one of my HDDs was bad.
But no ... you can't blame anyone for this. In 99% a bad power supply should not damagae your hardware, it will just make sure it does not work anymore. Since you installed that hardware, YOU are responsible for this. If a hardware-dealer would have to install this card for you, it would be his fault, but now its yours.
BTW: Why do you expect that a 300W suppy is enough!? I mean really ... think about it! See what todays PS can do, take a look how much your pentium already needs ... There are at least 00W gone for your CPU, another 00 for your Videocard and just 00 left for ALLLL the other devices like your harddisks (20-30W each one), DVD, mainboard, soundcard ... In no way this will be enough. You must have missed the last 5 years ...
BTW: I don't think that the software audio console would not work when not having connected the y-power cable. I forget that cable too one time. My console did still work, just in games I got some strange problems a lot of times (no more sound for -2 minutes, crackling and other poroblems) which got solved after I plugged in the power-cable to soundcard.Message Edited by Homey-GER on 0-7-200705:42 AM

• CS4 Output problems with transparency

I have a gradient in InDesign that gets garbled when I output it on the proofer.  It looks like this:
The gradient is a process color (Pantone 542)
My export settings are:
PDFx/1a:2001, Acrobat 4 compatible
Transparency flattener: high resolution
Output color: convert to Document CMYK - US Web Coated SWOP v2
The proofer is an Epson 7800 using SP7898 SWOP
I tried making it compatible with Acrobat 5 in include transparencies, but got the same result.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find anything online.

Oh really? Not that it makes a difference in this case, I think, but 542 is a spot number. Are you using the solid-to-process library or ink manager to convert?

• HDMI sound output problem with gtx670

Hello again!
I have recently purchased a brand new Samsung TA550 LED monitor to use with my Mac Pro desktop. My Pro posesses a GTX 670 graphics card with (obviously) an HDMI output channel. The thing is, when i plug the hdmi cable on the card and on the monitor and configure the monitor for the appropriate video settings, there is no audio. Then I go to the system preferences ----- sound------ output, and there are no options for hdmi or my tv/monitor.
Does anyone know whats goin on?
Thanks

It is flashed? or it is a straight PC card. And while there is support (you probably want to check other threads and sites and wait a day to upgrade to 10.8.3) some PC cards will not act and behave the same as say under Windows.
I would contact MacVidCards (ebay and MacRumors forum) and see if he can flash it or knows more.

• Front speaker output problem - SB Live

I recently upgraded my system to Windows XP from Windows Me and reinstalled the drivers for my Soundblaser Li've 5. card. I also downloaded the newest driver from the Creative site. I am not getting any output from my front and center speakers, despite having tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. I've looked around the support area of the Creative site and nothing seems to help. Does anyone have suggestions to offer to correct this problem. Many thanks

Which speakers do you have? Some of our analog speakersets have a "fader" on the volume control, that you can twist or use to adjust the balance between front and rear speakers. It sounds like that might have been adjusted accidentally.
If that doesn't help, then I'd suggest swapping the inputs around (as Shag mentioned) or trying a set of headphones on the front out to see if they work.

• X-FI driver causes speaker volume problems with remot

I have the X-FI elite pro and after the latest driver update, using the auto update, my remote controls only the front left speaker's volume only. This not a huge problem, but a problem still. Is there any fix for this? Does Creative know about this? If so, when is the time estimate for an official fix?
Thanks for any info!

I also expect a fix for this, we will probably have to wait for another "critical update". I plan on reverting to the previous drivers until then...
But I was wondering if this was happening under Vista as well?
