Speaker problem on iPhone 4

I am having a problem that just started this afternoon. When someone calls me I can not hear them however I can hear them if I use the speaker phone option. Also when I call a number I can not hear the phone number I am calling ring. But I can if use the speaker phone. HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Please

I know this question has been asked before but I can not find the answer to it. I have an iphone 4s that has worked great til recently. All of a sudden I can not hear the songs thru the speaker of the phone. I can hook it up to headphones and the car and hear it fine. Just not on its own. The volume bar to turn it up and down disappears as soon as I unplug the headphones. Is there any fix to this? I would really like to listen to my music again without headphones. Thanks.

Depending on the type of computer you use, mac or pc, there are photo prgrams that you can use to backup your photos to, on a mac its iphoto, you can google on a pc. And you should do that regurlaly, also back up your phone in itunes on a regular basis also.

I have an iPhone 4S. I have been having speaker problems for a while now and am slowly realizing when using and doing certain things that my sound is not working. When I take a video my sound does not work, when I facetime with someone they can't hear me but I can hear them. When I try and put someone on speaker phone they can't hear me. I can listen to music and listen to videos from facebook, youtube, etc. So my question is what could be causing this because I have sound otherwise, I can hear text message sounds, facebook notifications, etc. Help is appreicated. I admit that I cannot be sure that we have the same problem.
But saying that it is not likely to be a design issue (or an issue for a specific batch) because you know 30 people without this issue, is also not really sustaining....
The specific issue is that the mic is not working when having a phone call, but that it is working with other apps (like voicerecording) also putting the phone on the speaker works.
Obviously you are a experienced moderator of this forum and you might even have connections within Apple Support. So in spite of reprimand me, it would be nice to get a solution for this issue, which apperently many iPhone4 users suffer reading these posts....

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again?

Phantom Dock Connector Speaker Problem

The internal speaker on my iPhone 4S will only play music through the internal speaker when it's connected to a dock connector. The same applies to telephone sounds and live conversations, but not alerts which play any time.
When it's NOT connected, the volume slider at the bottom of the screen disappears and so does the sound. The phone is acting as though it's connected to a dock connector when its not and vice versa. Extremely annoying, especially when someone calls you and you can't hear.
I've restarted twice and reset all the settings, and I searched this forum and found a similar problem that occurred earlier this month. In that case, the phantom dock connector was "connecting" intermittently, and blocking the sound from the speaker. The user posted a screen shot that is similar to one that appears on my phone.
Here's what it looks like when the phone is NOT connected and an Airplay source is present:
I have thoroughly inspected the dock connector and the headphone jack. No apparent damage and no dust. This phone is about 2 months old.

Well, for anyone still having this issue - found a solution that seems to work for most people (worked for me).

Basically it says that the problem is indeed caused by a piece of dust/dirt touching a component making the iPhone think there is dock connector plugged in. Cleaning it should be the solution of this. The easy test is setting up an extra audio output by connecting to a bluetooth speaker or something so that you can get the same screen the OP has there on his screenshot (where you actually see the "Dock Connector" option. Then refresh that screen as you blow warm air into the connector. If for a few seconds it reads "iPhone" again instead of "dock connector", you are now 100% certain that dust/dirt is the problem.
For those of you who have no sounds at all, not even a volume bar, it's probably your actual speakers that aren't working. You can probably test this by letting the iPhone play an alarm sound or a ringtone - those come through the speakers even if he thinks there is a dock connector plugged in.
If the warm air trick worked, cleaning it should definitely fix the problem for you. The method that is proposed in the article made me laugh so hard that I just had to try it. Put your vacuum cleaner on it to suck it out! Naturally there is some risk in that, you might accidentally dislodge some other component inside the phone and then you really have a problem. It's probably a good idea to start with the vacuum cleaner not at 100% capacity and then gradually increase it until it's working again. It didn't work straightaway for me, I had to fit the vacuum cleaner onto the iPhone so that you don't lose any sucking power. Use your hands to form a sort of windtunnel between the vacuum cleaner and your iPhone, make sure that no air can escape between the two. Sit like this for a few minutes (this conventiently gives you time to think about how you're going to explain that one if someone walks in on you) and it should fix your problem.

I can not believe that Apple did not test this for major bugs like this one is.
I am a business user and can not effort to have bad reception. Apple wants to gain in the business clients... I never had this with my former BlackBerrys!
I need a reliable phone not a play thing like this is right now, it just needs it to work propely. And if a major bug like this comes along, fix it immediately. After the iPhone4 story, now this...incredible! Going back to my reliable BlackBerry! It just ain't reliable and takes forever to fix a problem.

I have the same issue after iOS 4.2.1 update. I am using iPhone 3GS officially unlocked by Apple. I tried using different SIM cards and both carriers show same problem when using phone in 3G mode. Phone falls back to EDGE mode showing 'E' from '3G' at start. I have reset the phone and rebooted several times and moved to different cell areas in the city just to verify the problem.
I had no such issues earlier. I also have Nokia E71 which shows full signal and has no such issues.
I have posted the bug on apple iphone feedback page. I hope they Apple will fix the problem and test the release properly on all models before releasing to public.

Have you tried the standard fixes:
- Reset:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
- Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Same problem here with and I've done everything shy of a total reset which I also find unacceptable. This problem exists on all iMessage platforms (iPhone, iPad, and Mac) so I don't see how restoring my iPhone would help the problem.
