Speaker static on Win 7

Since upgrading to Win 7 I'm experiencing speaker static cutting in while playing music out of iTunes. I have upgraded iTunes a few times now (just tried the latest version this morning) and no go. I have replaced the speakers, no go. I have played with the volume settings, no go. Please tell me there is a way to correct this!! It is so obnoxious I don't even use iTunes anymore like I used to. The static ONLY happens when playing content through iTunes; it does not happen on other applications.

I get this too. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling quite a few times, tried both standard and custom install (unchecking the add quick-launch option)
After I have installed Firefox (version 3.6.12) and launched it from the installer app, a little window appears with the title "Import Wizard", but it is less than 2 lines high, with a black background, and the only option is for me to hit the close button.
From that point, every time I try to run it, absolutely nothing happens. I have watched the Task manager to see if the firefox.exe process starts but I don't see anything there. Probably dieing too quickly.
I tried running it under safe-mode, but still get nothing.
I am not sure if other people see the little broken Import Wizard dialog but that's what I get.
Hope this added information helps.
Thanks

  • Speaker Static Noise from my iMac

Every on in awhile I get some static speaker noise coming from the bottom right side of my iMac. It is very annoying. It even happens when I have it muted. Anybody else have this problem.
I am also sure it is not the hard drive or the fans. It is defiantly a speaker static noise.

It does pop in and out and then there is just static noise.

  • External Speaker Static: Problem with audio jack?

I don't believe that anyone on the forums had the same question.
I am having trouble with my macbook pro.  Whenever I plug in external speakers, I get bad static (very loud, about as loud as the speaker's audio itself).  I have tested this on multiple speakers and get the same results on all of them.  When used on another computer, the speakers work fine.  This suggests that it is something wrong with my audio jack for my mac.
I noticed that the 3.5 mm plug doesn't go all the way into the jack.  There is about a millimeter millimeter or two of space This isn't much, but may be resulting in the static.  I have tried forcing the plug all the way in, but it still does not go in.  Any ideas?
I am trying to avoid having to get a bluetooth speaker or anything wireless.

Headphones don't induce grounding problems like external speakers. I am guessing the external speakers were all amplified speakers, with built-in amps and some sort of mains power supply. Perhaps you also have some peripherals such as a display connected to the Macbook Pro.
Try this: disconnect all peripherals from the MBP (including the Magsafe power plug) except the external speakers and see if you get static. I will also guess that the static is more of a whine/buzz that changes whenever the computer does something different.
If this works, then you have a common ground problem. The cheapest way to solve this is a Radio Shack ground loop isolator on the speaker cable,

High fidelity versions are also available, more like $300USD.

; I have read all the posts on individual speaker control to no avail. Can anyone tell me how to control volume of each speaker in a 5. / X-Fi Extreme / Win XP setup? Have updated drivers as of today. THX Console is no help.

  • External Speaker Static

I recently bought a Macbook. This is the first time I've used a Mac and I am somewhat unimpressed thus far.
My Macbook makes a horrible sound every time I insert & eject a CD. I wonder if it's normal? It sounds like a normal sound I guess, but it is so loud it makes me wonder...
Also, last night while I was watching South Park online, the fan randomly turned on and started getting louder and louder and louder until it was terribly distracting/annoying. Then it slowly went away, and came back again a couple minutes later. What's that all about?
And lastly, it has a huge issue when connected to external speakers or headphones. The speakers in the Macbook work fine, but when I've tried plugging-in my ipod headphones and two different sets of speakers they all have had the same issue. There is a loud static sound in the speakers at the beginning and end of every song, and it does the same thing when I pause or unpause a song. The same set of headphones and both sets of speakers work fine with my PC. When I tried watching South Park online, the static sound remained consistent until I finally just turned it off and listened to it via the Macbook speakers. Sigh...
I'm taking it to the Genius Bar this weekend, and I hope to be impressed by the service or I'll probably just return it and revert back to Windows Vista.
In the meantime, does anyone on here have any ideas of what might be wrong?

I've tried plugging-in my ipod headphones and two different sets of speakers they all have had the same issue
Use speakers that have a build in amplifier, only one port for audio out. Don't place them to close.
Use the mac to adjust volume, the volume level on the speakers to 3/4.
Try if the headphone port gives better results, most multi media speakers come with a mini jack.
Turn off the automatic mixing fade in/out between songs in iTunes.
My Macbook makes a horrible sound every time I insert & eject a CD. I wonder if it's normal?
No, I have the same issue, as long as it ejects the CD it's durable.
South Park online, the fan randomly turned on and started getting louder and louder and louder
Flash reverts to software decoding for full screen video when no video hardware card is detected.
Your Mac has faster processors that can display full screen video without additional hardware.
flash is very loud, on many laptops, it is being worked upon by the vendor. Needs some time.

  • Gaming headset fuzzy and every time I speak static?

I recently purchased the Sharkoon Xtatic SP Gaming Headset. Every time I plug the USB port in as well as the 3.5 mm stereo jack, I here a fuzzy noise in the headset, almost like someone constantly saying "shhhhhhh".  I tried using it with skype and when I did the test call, my voice came back to me as staticy and almost like a crackling popping noise every time I spoke.  Is there something wrong with the headset or did I just set it up wrong?  Any advice is appreciated!

This is a wireless carrier issue.  The fact that the speaker & microphone work properly for other apps is a great indicator that your device is fine.
Contact your wireless carrier about your call quality issue.

  • Zeppelin Speaker Static Noise.

Calling all Zeppelin users - Does anybody know what is causing the static problem you get whilst using a 2nd generation ipod touch with a Zeppelin?
I have noted that a good many iphone users are also reporting this issue as a really annoying problem. I have tried turning off the wifi connection but this has not reduced the level of noise being experienced. I do not get the same problem whilst using my 3rd generation ipod Nano and yes all my software both on the Zeppelin and the ipods is up to date.
Somebody with the same static problem has posted a YOUTUBE video of the noise so I am sure Bowers and Wilkins are looking into the problem with the intention of a fix. In the meantime I am interested what is causing it and whether anybody has found a fix?
I am also now going to contact Bowers & Wilkins and make my problem aware to them and I hope everybody else who is experiencing this noise will do so as well.
    Thanks
    Jon.

    Here's the noise:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqeggo7DSGg
I experience this intermittently with a 1st gen iPod Touch, with either Auxiliary or iPod input selected. Turning the Zeppelin off and on again removes the noise but affects the sound quality (muffled). The only way I've found to restore sound quality is to disconnect and reconnect the power cord. Interestingly this was never a problem with the original Zeppelin software/firmware, only occurring after I updated it, suggesting it could be fixed with an update. I've emailed Mike Sheehan from B&W USA

  • External speaker static with external monitor

So my external monitors have almost always given me static. it's not that noticible when something is playing, but sitting idle, i get major static coming through the powered speakers.
Last night i disconneded my external monitor (samsung 19" Monitor, not a TV) and the hissing stopped. I've seen a few posts about static with TV's, HD out, but nothing on the external monitors. I can even take the cable and just put it close to the video out and the static kicks in.
I've got all my power running through a small ups, but apparently the monitor is the problem. any ideas? everything is grounded.

Try the monitor in a non-UPS outlet.

  • [Wine] - How to deal with undetected ALSA Device problem

    All hail Google and Archwiki
sorry for that nonsense, I'm just too happy after two days trying to make my speaker work with Wine. For those who get same problem with me (Wine didn't detect your ALSA device correctly and/or didn't list it on winecfg), this is simple workaround  to get them working.
Note: In oppose to Wiki's advice to install wine-suse from AUR, I use Wine from Community repo. AUR install always give me "WARNING: Dependencies have been installed before the failure" error
Additional note: Using this workaround. One may get error when try to use sound test within winecfg, and you'll likely get this error message on terminal:
fixme:wave:ALSA_ComputeCaps Device has a minimum of 2 channels
As far as google can tell, this will bring no harm to your box, unless proven otherwise
    1. First thing first, if you don't know which device you should use, check it with 'cat /proc/asound/devices', else skip to step 3,
    bam ~/Desktop > cat /proc/asound/devices

    if you get this error:
aplay: set_params:1059: Channels count non available
    replace hw:x,y with plughw:x,y.
    3. After you get the working device number (e.g: hw:1,0), launch regedit
    wine regedit
    navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine
    4. Create new key named Alsa Driver , make new yalues as follow
    [Software\\Wine\\Alsa Driver]
    #disable auto scan sound card
    "AutoScanCards"="N"
    #specify number of output device
    "DeviceCount"="1"
#point it to your hw number
    "DeviceCTLn"="hw:1"
    #same as above
    "DevicePCMn"="hw:1"
    #optional: direct hardware interface
    "UseDirectHW"="Y"
detailed explanations can be found in Wine wiki (link on bottom)
    5. close and test it by launching an apps (using test sound in winecfg will give you error!).
    6. If your settings correct, you'll get your sound working

ps: Sorry for misspelled word/gramatical error, I'm not too good on English.

domain_uplevel only affects how we do LDAP search. It will have no effect on users that are not in your LDAP,.
Setting up a "domain smarthost" will cause messages addressed to unknown users to be routed to the host placed in the "smarthost". That would handle your issue, as long as the second box is "authoratative" for your domain, and doesn't send messages it doesn't know what to do with, to the Messaging Server.
Or, you could add all the users to your LDAP, and put the "mailhost" to msg2. That will route their mails over to the other box.

  • PDF Windows isn't working

    Good day all here!
Some days ago - I don't remember after a Windows-7-Professional (64 Bit) and/or and Adobe-Update (they took place on the same day) Acrobat 8.0 Professional (I still use Creative Suite 3.2) isn't working correct anymore. Opening a PDF results in a courrpted presentation mainly without the windows-page-frame and the options-bar of Adobe Acrobat. I can't close the PDF normaly (no "x" visible) and only sometimes when I switch it into the taks bar and back on it works - or not. I'm able to open Acrobat normal by doulbe clicking the icon and when I move a PDF into it seems to works fine.
I would be thankful for any help - thanks a lot!

Which one of the following would be recommended in a process where 100000 records has to be inserted and deleted. This will be done once a month or bi-weekly.
Note: Partition is not a option at this moment, as it may require a change and some work.
    1. dbms_sql.parse(cursor_name,insert_sql_text,dbms_sql.native);

By the way, what are the possible performance issue with Option 1.
Your input will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

At best, dynamic SQL will have equivalent performance to static SQL. It is a lot easier to screw up dynamic SQL from a performance standpoint than to screw up static SQL. Static SQL wins here.
Properly done static SQL will be far easier to maintain over time than will properly done dynamic SQL. In addition to niceties like syntax hilighting in your favorite GUI, you don't have to worry about things like missing a space when your dynamic SQL runs to multiple lines. Static SQL is also compiled at compile time, rather than runtime, so you know immediately if you have a typo somewhere, rather than waiting to run the code to find the error.
If it is possible to do something with static SQL, use static SQL. If you cannot do it with static SQL, use dynamic SQL.

  • Fresh install of Arch on sda, need win8 on sdb

I'm running GPT and GRUB2. Is this about just adding the grub entry and fixing mbr?
I've been away for quite some time, now I need win8 for Civ5...luckily I have an extra HD to spare.

I can't speak for the Win 8 installer, but the Win 7 installer chokes if you install it (in GPT mode) onto a different hard drive to the one with your current EFI system partition (ESP). Assuming there's space, it'll annoyingly create a new 100MB ESP on the disk with the existing ESP on it, install it's EFI bootloader on to it, then report that it can't reboot to continue the installation.
You're better off doing what fukawi2 suggested, and unplugging the drive with Arch installed, install Windows onto the other drive, reconnect the Arch drive, and copy over the bootloader from one of the ESP to the other. It's what I ended up doing.
Or you can use a virtual machine, though you might not get the performance you'd like.

  • Chainload Truecrypt bootloader on sda from Grub2 on sdb

    Hi,
i have an installation where i installed windows 8 on /dev/sda1. I encrypted it with Truecrypt which installed it's bootloader to /dev/sda.
Then I have Arch on a luks-encrypted lva on /dev/sdb2, sdb1 is the /boot partition. Grub2 is installed to /dev/sdb.
This Setup works relatively well because i choose to what drive i want to boot from my bios on every startup. I'd like it more though, if i could chainload the Truecrypt-loader from Grub2.
I've found some instructions for this when both Systems are on the same drive, e.g. here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? … st10015847
But since both systems are on different drives and have differnent MBRs, there must be a simpler solution?
Any idea how to achieve that chainloading of /dev/sda's truecrypt loader in an easier way?
    Thanks
    Michael
