Speaker Volume changed after 10.4.10 Update

Hi.
I updated to 10.4.10 recently and since then my speaker volume has gone quieter. i can barely hear something for example when i have 3 bars on the built-in onscreen volume meter.
I know that the speakers in my powerbook were better than those in my macbook pro, but this volume thing makes me crazy.
Anyone any ideas?

It takes some time but here's how..
Backup your User folder and all other data you want backed up/saved.
Boot from the OSX dvd, erase the drive and re-install a fresh system (probably 10.4.7 or 10.4.8 that came on ur dvd) after installing run all software updates but ignore the 10.4.10 one.
After software update tells you all that remains is the 10.4.10 update go to the apple downloads p-age and download the 10.4.9 (not combo) updater and run it.
Ur now back on 10.4.9, restore your backups and everything should be back to normal.
Use disk utility to verify/repair permissions before and after updates.
It takes a bit of work but downgrading was well worth the effort for me.

My font totally changed after the last Firefox update. It is a little smaller, less bold and very much less clear. Please tell me how to fix this.

The default font used on websites like Facebook, Craigslist, Google etc. has now become much worse since the last update. It is much less clear, it almost looks choppy and transparent. As if part of the letters are missing. Less bold and just a tad smaller as well. I would like to go back to the way the font used to look like, the way it does in Internet Explorer and Chrome.

hi miked91, this is probably caused by microsoft update kb3013455 which can cause font rendering issues on vista:

one option may be to [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/remove-update#1TC=windows-vista roll-back this particular update] for now until there is a fix by microsoft or you could also look if there is a [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|graphics driver update]] available on the website of the vendor (intel/amd/nvidia) which might also resolve this problem in some cases.

Color change after 10.4.8 update

After the update, my eyes are picking up a universally light, bluish tinge (not as in light-blue, but as in a small amount of blue in the white) on my display (which is just the Macbook's LCD display, not an external one). Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone know a solution? I have tried to calibrate, but that didn't change anything. Maybe my eyes have something wrong with them, but the whites don't seem as "white" and the silver displayed on Safari's top toolbar doesn't seem as crisp.

I was able to return the previous color profile by copying a file called Color LCD-4271780.icc from another 10.4.7 system.

TM volume corrupted after 10.6.4 update

I did update my AirBook to 10.6.4. After rebooting fsck worked for a long time with 90 % CPU. Several hours later I had to stop it. Since this moment my TimeMachine Volume is "locked" (so probably fsck did check the TM volume before). The sparsebundle doesn't show the little lock in its icon. In the Get info window it doesn't appear locked. Disk Util says the Volume is OK. DiskWarrior cannot rebuild because the volume is "locked". "chflags nouchg" didn't help.
I'd like to preserve my TM Backups. Any idea how to unlock this sparsebundle volume?

Unless there is a very good reason to continue the current backup I would reformat the backup volume and start a fresh backup. Something has gone wrong with the SparseBundle or the drive hosting your Time Machine backup. A reformat is the most reliable way to get rid of whatever might be causing the underlying issue.
That said you could try "grafting" the old backup into a new sparse bundle.
Remove the broken sparse bundle from the backup volume.
Start a new backup and allow to complete.
Now mount both the old sparse bundle and the newly created sparse bundle.
Delete the contents of the new sparse bundle.
Copy and paste the contents of the old bundle into the new bundle.
Try and backup again.

Firewall enabled/changed after 10.5.6 update?

I did my 10.5.6 update remotely via SSH this morning. After restarting the server, it is now not responding to remote SMTP connections on either port 25 or 940 (alternate). I can SSH and WWW to the server fine, and from the box itself I can connect to those ports on localhost (so postfix itself is running ok). Did 10.5.6 unhelpfully turn on, modify, or otherwise screw with the firewall settings, and if so how can I disable it? ("tried ipfw disable firewall")? My server is behind a hardware firewall, I don't want the local firewall running.
I wish Apple would document changes like this.

Something would seem to have changed. They updated my MacBook Pro to 10.5.6 at the Genius Bar (right before they shipped it off to replace the logic board), and now the firewall blocks all my local connections—my network printer and all my other computers. Turning off the firewall completely re-establishes the local connections.
If anyone has an idea about how to fix this, let me know. I too have a hardware firewall in the router, but I usually keep the MacBook Pro's local firewall on as well, because I hate to have to remember to turn it on every time I take it out of the house. Before 10.5, this was easy to maintain; now it's a pain in the neck.

Color/Gamma changed after 8.0.2 update (Windows)

After I updated AE to 8.0.2, I noticed that clips are now being rendered a little lighter and sharper than before. Seems as if the color and/or gamma management was changed, but I'm almost certain it wasn't me because I never use those features. Here's how I noticed:
Last week, shortly after updating AE, I opened a project created in January in order to make some minor changes to a 30ss TV spot done entirely on AE. I was in a hurry, so after revising some text and graphics, I rendered only the required segment. Then, I proceeded to insert the partial AVI with the changes on top of the original AVI on a Premiere timeline.
Immediately, I noticed something odd. After doing an A/B comparison between the two at exactly the same point in time, the difference was obvious: Gamma was off. Switching off the revised AVI on track 2 revealed that the original was a bit darker. The new clip looked even a bit sharper, more highlighted. They didn't match so I had to render the whole 30ss spot again, or else, the cut would've been noticeable. It happened again on a second 30ss spot done on an entirely different project, which convinced me that it had to be the latest AE update.
From the beginning I worked both projects at 8 bpc, color management off, OpenGL entirely off and source material unchanged. All clips are rendered as AVI using the Blackmagic MJPEG codec, which I updated last December. Quicktime hasn't been updated either.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone has a suggestion other than resetting preferences? Anything would be helpful.

In fact, both commercials have Quicktime (PNG) backgrounds from iStockPhoto. A MediaCore bug makes perfect sense to me. I'll check other projects that don't include .MOVs to see what happens. Thanks, Mylenium.

Brightness change after 10.5.8 update

Is it my imagination or did 10.5.8 change the display brightness? On my early 2006 20" core duo iMac I had to crank the screen brightness down to almost the bottom setting to get what I think I had before. Wonder if anyone else feels there was a change.

My Imac 'august 2007', also changed to full brightness.
However I am not able to lower the brightness.... well I can but after a reboot all is back to full brightness.
This is already causing me headaches as I am a professional photographer and was happy with the fact that all was calibrated well (I do this every 4 weeks).
However If I can't restore the brightness back to its lowest position, my calibration is way off!!! and recalibrating doesn't make sense this way!

IPhone speaker volume changes when connected to apple tv

If anyone has had this problem as well I would be interested but when I first got my iPhone 4S I realized it was loud. After disconnecting from the apple tv my max volume is lower. When I reconnect to the apple tv (by using it to play music from my phone) the my volume is louder again. Is this a bug or just my phone. Lol. And yes my volume is maxed out in both situations. It's almost like the speakers get boosted when connected to a different audio source.

You would need to connect the speakers to the apple tv if that is where the video is playing.

Laptops do not display On Screen Display volume bar after Hotkeys Features Integration update

I have also included most of the following information in response to a post, on the same subject, for T series machines.
I have 2 machines that are also affected by this problem, an R61 (8932-CTO XP-Pro-SP3 32-bit) and an R500 (2714-CTO XP-Pro-SP3 32-bit).
System update recently presented me with Hotkeys version 3.87.0000 on both of these machines, and I let System Update update the drivers in the vain hope that Lenovo had fixed this problem that has been previously reported as affecting many other series and models.
No such luck.
The only difference that I would like to report is that, for me, the last version of the Hotkey Features Integration package that displays the volume bar on my Windows XP machines is: 3.84.5000. I have all versions of the Hotkeys drivers saved on my machine and was therefore able to try them all out to verify which one was the last one that worked for me.
On both of the above mentioned systems, the version of Access Connections that is running is version 5.97.
On the R61, the version of Power Manager that is running is version 5.20.
On the R500, the version of Power Manager that is running is version 5.13. (System Update does not show version 5.20 as an available update on this machine.)
It would be really nice if Lenovo could finally fix this problem.

Has anyone else had a problem with the Artist search buttons search peramiters changing after Apples latest ipod update ? I synced my ipod touch recently and it came up with a message saying a new update was available for the ipod but might take an hour .

Last time I synced my ipod touch it ofered me an update for the pod that could take about an hour , I did it and now it doesnt search properly . When I used the Artist tab at the bottom of my ipod before it would find every single song on the ipod by that artist (ie it searched by TRACK Artist) . Now it only find the songs by any given artist that are on Albums by that Artist (ie it searches by ALBUM Artist) What that means is it wont find any song by any Artist on a Various Artist CD . HAS ANYNOE ELSE GOT THIS PROBLEM OR A SOLUTION?

Itunes volume changing after outlook new mail sound

I have a new iMac running Mountain Lion and I was playing a song in iTunes, when my "New Mail" sound played in Outlook.
The music level dropped and never came back up again.
Any ideas?

well, it always worked this way for me on all my imap accounts (I have 4).
and I've seen lots and lots of posts describing the same behavior. I don't know what's going on in your case.
I have two email accounts, both use IMAP IDLE, and I get the new mail sound each and every time a new mail message is delivered to either.
So there's some other factor at work here.

Wake from sleep volume extremely loud after 10.9.4 update

Every time I wake from sleep since the 10.9.4 update, my Mac Pro's volume to my speakers (via headphone jack) seems to be insanely loud despite system prefs showing the volume level at middle. Normally I like to keep my speaker's volume high and turn the system volume down, but it seems like the OSX is ignoring the system volume setting after waking up. It reverts to proper behavior when I hit volume up or down on the keyboard. Anyone notice this?

Reset the NVRAM.
NVRAM reset:
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery (not a portable Mac's rechargeable battery) may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

My mac volume level won't change after sleep

My "Line Out" (2.1 Speaker System) does not seem to accept volume changing commands either by the Apple Wireless Keyboard, or System Preferences > Sound. This happens all the time after I put the computer to sleep. Before when I switched to Internal Speakers then back it would "unlock" and let me adjust the volume, but that is no longer the case (I should point out that the volume controls are not disabled, it's just that changing the level does not do anything). I can however adjust and use Internal Speakers just fine. This forces me to restart my computer in order to adjust the volume again.

Resetting the SMC and PRAM did not solve my problem, however this did manage to solve my problem across reboots and sleep:
1. Command + Space / Open Spotlight.
2. Search for "Audio MIDI Setup".
3. Select your sound system.
4. Change the format to something else, then change it back.
At this point it should fix the volume level and allow you to change it. I have only done this once, and it has worked since I made this topic.

I lose speaker volume on and off after installing ios7 update on iphone4s. I reset my phone and then it just started again with the problem. It fixed it briefly

Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. This will not affect data. Remove the car speakers from the phone under Bluetooth, and remove the phone from the car stereo. After that place both devices back into pairing mode and reconnect.
