SpeakerPhone 2 on Logic Express? Or just Logic Pro?

Hello wizards!
I'm hoping someone can help me with this little dilemma I have.
I'm doing a film and I need a specific sound which I've found in SpeakerPhone 2.
http://www.audioease.com/Pages/Speakerphone/speakerphone.html
But since I'm pretty new at this, I assume I need to buy that AND something that I can use it with. Since I'm an Apple man, I look at Apple's products first. Logic Express jumps into mind but I don't know if it's compatible with this plug in.
It says that it supports : RTAS, Audio Unit, MAS or VST plug-in, but does Logic Express do that too?
Or do I have to go for the big boy and invest in Logic Studio?
Any help or suggestions on alternatives to how I can make Speakerphone work on my Mac, would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I cannot believe it, really? This is fantastic! So any AU host works with the format SpeakerPhone uses?
This is such great news... I was a but upset that I had to invest in a such a massive amount of gear and software to get a simple sound resembling that of a 60s TV movie.
O_O
Thank you Bee Jay!

No instrument tracks show up when loading logic pro and I can't see the virtual instruments that you get with the package, this is rather frustrating.

You mentioned that you were using Express. Then you should know
how to change any track into a Inst track. Also Express and Pro have
templates that include Inst tracks, dont you use them? If you are using a
custom template why didn't you put Inst tracks into it? Now what I suspect
(by the wording of your post) is that you aren't loading a virtual instrument
into the Inst track, could I be getting warm? If this is the case, then you need to look at the Getting Started with Logic guide that came with the program.

  • Is MBOX compatible with logic pro?

I was offered to buy an MBOX at a very reasonable price, and I have been looking into getting a preamp. Is the Mbox compatible with Logic express or just with pro tools? How would I benefit from this hardware?

    Hi,
I can't speak for the mbox1. But I own an mbox2 pro, which is a GREAT box.
It's also highly acclaimed by folks who have put it to more scrutiny than me.
Being made by Digidesign is, IMO, a quality mark in itself. Say what you want about ProTools etc. (I prefer Logic by far), but hi-def audio is what they know.
I just had to download and install Digidesign's CoreAudio drivers to make it work properly - no prob.
It's not poor just because it's been on the market a few years. But whether you should get the (oldish) mbox1 or get something newer, is up to you

  • Logic Express on MBP 2.2 to Logic Pro or Wait? Track count? 720 RPM drive?

    Hey there,
Just a few easy questions, some of which I am sure have been asked but didn't find with search.
Wondering if I should upgrade to Logic Pro or wait until after Leapord? As their is some speculation the FCP is going to come out (NEW) and be very, VERY Apple like, not like iMovie, (he said, and saw), but nonetheless very VERY Apple like for FCP, so wondering how far Logic is. Also, how many times can you install LP?
Right now everything from Storm Drum FX EXtreme, EWQL SO, VLS, etc, are all on PC and I still don't use the PC that much and am hoping new LOGIC include a great drum machine.
II. Anyone know what track counts you can expect with off the shelf MBP 2.2 and plug ins? (Soft Synths)?
III. Has anyone upgrade their HD to 7200? If so, more or less batter life? Any real world difference besides boot up time in AUDIO work advantages?
    Thanks

Now see, this is what I was afraid of. (LOL), I have built PC's for a long time and was always under the impression having a 7200 RPM System drive is fine and these days so fast with eSata that on a MBP 2.2 (which is what I have - someone asked what I was using, or did they mean software), that is should be plenty fast enough, just wondering though for samples, BFD, DrumCore, VSL, etc if those should go on a firewire.
I also use Absysnth (if this is what you mean (other poster), Nuendo, FC Express, SX3, Logic E, Reason, ......
    Two scenarios:
Music=Mine, Drum machine, really like the Addictive (also have and Drumcore) as well as have Groove Agent, Storm Drum, (No storm drum yet or FX Extreme for Intel, let alone EWQLSO?), bass, guitar, vocals.
    Scenario II. Scoring Trailers:
Soft Synth, Samplers (EWQL/VSL), Reason, Absynth.
Most of the time I could do this on a old system equal to first duo on PC on the system disc, although I had 4 HD's. The Firewire is Mackie 400F, which also has a firewire, (extra) that I have plugged a digital cam cord AND up popped iDVD, iMovie, also have FCP.
But it's interesting that the two responses I got one said much better performance, the other not.
So, are we using in the new 2.2 (LED) eSata)? Is the a 32 slot for the MBP for eSata HD? Isn't this supposed to be the fastest?

  • How can I upgrade form Logic Express 9 to Logic pro?

I have Loci Express 9 and I want to update to Logic Pro 9 . the only way is to download the "full" version from the app store? SInce I see that the download is only 400Mb what about the 8 DVD that used to come with the previous version? If I download Logic Pro, will It be a new program or It will upgrade Logic Express?

You might be able to find a Logic Studio updgrade out there in the retail world but the only current and active "upgrade" available is to simply buy Logic Pro for $199 through the Mac App Store. The initial download is only about 400 megabytes but when it runs the first time, it downloads an additional 2 gigabytes or so of "required content." After that, you can go to the Help menu at any time and select "Download Additional Content." There's over 20 gigaytes of additional samples, loops and presets you can download at your leisure.
To answer the second part of your post, Logic Pro will coexist with Logic Express side by side, but there's really no reason to do that unless you just want to. There's nothing Express does that Pro doesn't do.

  • Will Logic Express and Logic Pro X co-exist on my Mac?

I use Logic Express. If I buy Logic Pro X can I have both versions on my Mac? I assume I'll eventually move to the new version, but just incase I have issues?
    thanks.

Mate, it will run absolutely fine... But like with most DAW's it will be hosting other plugins, so alot depends on what you have running at once.  But an i5 w/8gb well probably take more than what you will throw at it if you're only just starting out - It's when you get into serious sound and mastering where you need high end processing power.
However, saying that you can bounce down realtime pluging into audio files so that free's your CPU up.  Plus, in my experience Logic is very efficient as it disables plugins etc. when they're not producing sound.
Have you already got an audio interface?
The only issue you will have is screen size on a 13" MBP, i did post a get around to give you more resolution on here a while back, i will try and find it for you - Just incase you need more res.  The Logic X interface is a little 'bigger' so tends to cram on a 13".

  • Uninstalling Logic Express 7.2 after installing Logic Pro 7.2 Upgrade

    hi guys,
my gf just bought me the logic pro 7.2 upgrade from logic express that i use and i have a quick question to ask..
i have installed and updated Logic Pro to 7.2.3 -- what do i do with Logic Express app? do i just drag and drop it to my trash to uninstall it? I want to free up some space on my HD so will Logic Pro now work if i uninstall my Logic Express? If this is the case, then if i remove Logic Express from my HD by dragging the .app file into the trash is it safe to assume i will not delete any folders that will prevent Logic Pro from working?
    Thanks!
    super excited about upgrade!!!!!
    :-DDDDDDDDD
    sparco.

    Hey Sparco.
I was wondering the same thing, as I've recently done this as well (bought LP after owning LE, that is). I was always wondering whether or not I needed it there, or even GB for that matter. I almost deleted LE/GB, until I realized that the programs themselves aren't taking up that much space. What takes up the most space are the sample libraries, apple loops (at least the non-midi ones), and perhaps some of the plugins. As far as I can tell, Logic Pro will install as a separate app, but it will share all of the file resources with LE and GB, and just add extra stuff on top (like the ES2, Scultpure, etc etc). I don't think you'd be saving all that much space getting rid of LE.
Besides, having LE around means that you don't ALWAYS need the xskey. Perfect for anyone running a laptop.

  • Playing Logic Express 7.2 Songs in Logic Pro 6.4.1

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to import Logic Express 7.2 songs(running on a intel macbook) into Logic Pro 6.4.1(running on OS9)? It doesn't seem to work.
I cannot find any topic on this?
    Perhaps this is just impossible?!
Any help would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks Emily

    Hi,
Logic is not forwards-compatible with future versions. Until Apple perfects time travel, of course.
Our current Logic 8 will not open Logic 10 files.
Likewise the Logic 6 cannot open the Logic 7 files.
    Cheers

  • Open sessions in Logic Pro by (default) instead of logic express

Hello , I just upgraded from logic express 7.2 to logic Pro 7.2 and my sessions are still opening in logic express as the default app. Is there any way to have them open in logic pro automatically?

thanx alot , that did it .Im glad I joined and
posted because I was about to delete the Logic
express app . but thanx again for the reply and
    hospitality .
CB, Hi, I am thinking of doing the same upgrade as yourself. Now that you have the answer to your problem, is the 'transfer' of songs from Express to Pro 'seamless'. I.e. I take it that there are no problems transferring work done in Express to Pro? Like yourself, I am a relative newcomer to this forum etc

  • Opening a Logic Pro file in Logic Express

Hi my Nephew is thinking of buying Logic Express (He can't afford Logic Pro) so we can collaborate together on some toonz. Now if I send him a song I have created in Logic Pro will it be OK for him to open in Logic Express to work on that song?
What will have happened to all the parts that I have created on the instruments in Logic Pro which are not available in Logic Express? would it just be MIDI notes/ data? and vice versa.
    Many Thanks

    Hi there...
When i'm in the studio I work with LP7, but on the road (and its more often then not) I use LE7. This 12" powerbook 1.5gz w/ 1.25mb 80hd has the FULL LP7 install and the FULL LE7 install, as well as lots of Garageband loops, and most free, AUs.
In Express (with a LP7 install, on the same machine) the ONE thing that is poor, is opening a LP7 project that leverages PLUGS for LP7. But that's ok as Sculpture and all those other goodies are too cpu hungry for a single G4 (IMHO).
So you will not get those working, BUT, with a real LP7 install the EXSp24 can OPEN the instruments from the much much larger library of material inside LE7. It's kind of like Logic Express-PRO...sounds strange i know.
Oh, and don't forget that LE7 need to really be the 7.1.1 version as that one adds the HybredMorph inst from GB. Keep your bus counts down and no auxs in the LP7 sessions if you KNOW a LE7 users will pop them open
    YMMV... but Good luck.

  • Can logic pro 9 be upgraded if i have the Express version?

    HI,
Can logic pro 9 be upgraded if i have the Express version?
because when i try to do it, ask me for my Logic Studio SNr. and i just copy my Logic Express SNr. and doesn't work !
    Is that normal?

I'm not sure I understand the wording of your question.
If you mean "Can I upgrade Logic Express 9 to Logic Pro 9?" the answer is yes, you can.
When you get the upgrade, if you already had LE9 installed on your system, the installer will already know your existing serial number, and it will be asking you for your new serial number of the upgrade. If you are trying to put in your old serial number here, this won't work, it's the serial number of the upgrade it's asking for.
If you are having serial number issues and believe you are using the correct serial numbers, then you'll need to contact Apple for help.

  • Less oppertunities for compressors in Logic Express  compared to Logic Pro?

    Hi there,
I'm running on L-Express also. I had a conversation with a guy this afternoon who is running Protools.
We've tried to put some compressors on my created track. In protools he could let a compressor follow the beat of the bass drum and put that effect on, for instance, the hi hat so that you could create a nice pumping sound. We've tried to look for it in Logic Express but unfortunatly we couln't find it.
Is this also a difference between Logic Express and Logic Pro?
    grtz,
    Lewis

    Hey Lewis,
I believe you must be talking about a multi band compressor, that you can use High or low pass filters, the one in logic Le isn't, you just have one in AU from the system.
Logic Pro has multi band compressor and then some!
Anyway, Logic Le compressor has some presets that can help you click on arrow tool (in the compressor) and you have presets for Vocal, Instruments,Drums ie: Kick drum - Double punch.
    Give it a go.
    cheers,
    Jorge

  • What would I gain by going to Logic Pro or Logic Express.

I am a current power user of Garage Band (funny huh?) and I have figured out ways around a lot of things. Most my material are samples with vocals. I am doing dance music and want to step up. But will I really be gaining anything. I do not use midi. I just want the ability to timestrech vocals to fit beats and that sort of thing. Should I go to logic express or jump right into logic pro?
What can pro do that express cannot?
    thanks, technoreid

You can find a brief feature comparison on Logic Express' page. This will give you an overview of what Express can and cannot do. If all you are doing is time stretching audio to fit already made beats, then Express may be what you need. You can do some beat composing with Express, but you won't have plug-ins such as Ultrabeat. If you can get by with the EXS-P and perhaps the Remix Tools Jam Pack, you can come up with some pretty good stuff in Express.
And like Stash put it: if you need more, you can always upgrade.

  • How do I upgrade to Logic Pro from Logic Express?

When I decided to dump ProTools and go with Logic, it was easy because Express was pretty cheap and there was always an upgrade path to Logic Studio. Now it's version 9 and I don't see an option to upgrade to Logic Pro 9 from Logic Express 9. Can you guys help me out here?

Based on the replies in the Logic Express forums, it looks like I'll just have to suck it up until Logic 10 comes out.
I think I would feel totally hosed if it weren't for the fact that I recently got Komplete 8 Ultimate, so I don't really care for the Logic synths.

  • Since logic express is discontinued, can i get the updates from logic pro for free?

logic pro was recently priced at 199, effectively replacing logic express. it seems as though apple should allow logic express users to get the additional functionality of logic pro withought buying the entire product again.

@Blueberry - lol I wonder if you'll sing the same tune if they discontinue logic pro and then force you to buy "logic studio" for $500 (current price 2012). See this guy's comment on the product page of the online store:
"I have been producing music on logic since before Apple acquired it from the previous developer.
I purchased Logic Pro 7 from Apple for $1000, and i have since spent another $500+ in "upgrades" to get to the current format of logic Pro 9. Shortly after my reluctant upgrade from 8 to 9, Apple released a promotional price of $300 for the entire program. That is just a little more than I paid to upgrade. Still no discount for upgrades though. In short loyal long time customers have now paid over $1,500.00 to get a $300 program. A slight kick in the pants for its Pro oriented customers. As a pro user you can add 7 computers, 4 iphones, 3 ipads and some ipods to that shopping cart as well.
In that time I have watched Apple drop Key production features out of Logic in order to make room for programming codes that dumb down the DAW interface and create undesired glitches within the frame of what was an excellent platform from Emagic.
Now that Mac has solidified its abandonment of the professional grade market by dropping the mac pro and pretty much all R&D for Logic as well, I find myself more and more disappointed with logics performance. Another product that has let go of functionality for aesthetics.
I have, in fact, spent well over 40 hours reverting and reformatting my system back to Snow Leopard (very difficult as Mac firmware no longer supports reverse compatibility) but also reverting logic to a version of LP9 that is stable within that operating system. I had to do this as there is no version of LP9 that works properly in any operating system after SL.
OS 10.6.8 + Logic 9.1.6/7 is the most stable combo that will run on intel based Mac. Trust me.. I tried the rest. I would prefer to go back to logic pro 7 but once again No reverse compatibility.
Hopefully the 2software developers... Yes two... still working on logic will at least make it stable again so we can finish our mixes and move to another software manufacturer.
Sorry Mac but after years of total loyalty you left me and the Professional market out in the cold."
So - I already paid about $200 for logic express and now I have to pay $200 more for something I never wanted?
