Speakerphone dynamics.....Just a thought.

I wonder - is the volume problem with the speaker phone Apples way of handling feedback? With my limited experience with sound reinforcement depending on where you set a mic and a speaker and what they are facing could change their characteristics. When the bottom of the phone facing a hard structure like a wall or a hand it could cause feedback and apple must have anti-feedback character electronics lowering the volume. With nothing obstructing the bottom of the phone it should be less of a feedback problem and thus louder volume because no feedback issues.
(try the iPhone on a table that has no obstruction in front of the bottom of the handset and test your volume)
With cells or land line phones that have speaker phone capabilities and even car speaker phone kits feedback is always an issue and depending on where the speaker is compared to the mic will make a large difference. (like the Razr Vxx with the speaker on the opposite side of the microphone and it's great volume on their speaker phone)
Why Apple or someone representing Apple here isn't address this issue we are left to guess and get more frustrated until others can come up with explanations (like me) as to what the issues are and how to address them.
I guess that if Apple had an official response on this forum way too many people would respond with their perceived problems and real issues as to Apple inability to address their hardware. Apple hasn't come up with a Pandora's box that closes automatically.
Just a thought and lets test your iPhones on our new "Table" test with your iPhone and get back to us.

I always have to go back to email to check that those aren't new emails....ones that came after I deleted the ones I just read. (I hope that made sense!) I wish that when I go to email, read it, then delete it, that it shows no email on my homepage. But that's the "problem". I HAVE TO refresh the homepage to make it current. Adobe says that piracy is one of the reasons for going to the cloud.  CC has to verify the subscription periodically why not add that process to the perpetual license for a nominal yearly fee.  On the other hand, why can't a user subscribe to CC for a month to get the latest version and then go on the web to get a crack?
    I also own, unless they go to a subscription, Elements 10.  Lots of functions that CS6 has for photo enhancements.  I found some plugins that really enhance Elements. e.g. ElementsXXL adds new menu items, icons, buttons, key shortcuts and dialogs, so they seamlessly integrate into the user interface of Photoshop Elements. ElementsXXL bridges the gap between Photoshop Elements and Photoshop and greatly enhances the image editing experience in Photoshop Elements.
    I am sure other plugins will appear to make Elements more like Photoshop.

    "Adobe says that piracy is one of the reasons for going to the cloud. CC has to verify the subscription periodically why not add that process to the perpetual license for a nominal yearly fee."
    Why on earth would anyone want to pay a "nominal yearly fee" for another nuisance created by Adobe.  They can already shut down perpetual license holder's software if they pull the plug on the activation servers.  Don't you know that their servers check our software now as it is?
    Just recently with the release of the CS2 software to previous owners, many people could no longer use their already-installed CS2 software because Adobe's CS2 servers were shut down.  What does that tell you?
    I'm not going the way of cruising the internet for cracks.  That's for disillusioned kids who think everything should be free.  When my CS6 software no longer works I'm going with another company.  Probably Corel for some of the programs.  CorelDRAW was always better than Illustrator anyway.  Industry standard doesn't always mean it's great.  It just means everyone is using it and they expect you to do as well.  Personally, I think Macromedia made better software before Adobe took them over and MM software was a lot cheaper.

  • ZCM Device Map Designer or something, just a thought

    Hi!
    Very useful option is to have Novell iPrint Map Designer with OES. So, I thought useful could be also something like this for ZCM devices? I mean, could be much easier for admins to find clickable devices reflected on building map, sometimes! Also, for admin substitutes (for vacation etc.) and general view. Anyway, just a thought. Of course, not very hard to do it wo special tool.
    Anyway, yes, did write a few lines for Novell.

  • Just a thought...CDs?

    Hey, I just want to know. Is there anything that would let my Macintosh Performa 637CD running OS 7.5.0 write CDs? I try putting in blank Memorex CD-ROMs that work fine when blank in my PC, but nothing comes up, like it isn't reading the CD. Any suggestions are welcome. I tried a looooooooooooong Google search, but couldn't find anything, not even on the sites I mark as my Mac Hotspots (welovemacs.com, everymac.com, and of course apple.com). Please send your thoughts!

    bjincs
    Certainly your Performa, with a 68LC040 processor that can support OS 8.1, can drive an external CD burner. Its internal 2x CD-ROM is just that: a CD reader. The suitable version of Toast will depend on your System/OS, but be assured that even a Colour Classic can drive a CD burner under System 7.5.
    Toast 3.5 was 'fat binary'. That is, it supported 68K and PPC. It requires System 7.5 or later (System 7.0 if you feel brave); a 68040 processor and SCSI Manager 4.3, preferably; for erasure of CD-RW discs, at least 16MB of RAM; and the Drag & Drop and Thread Manager extensions as well as other SCSI devices disconnected.
    Toast 4 requires OS 8.0 or later (System 7.5.1 if you feel brave); a 68040 or PPC and SCSI Manager 4.3; at least 64MB of RAM; VM off; QT 3 (for PhotoRelay); and at least 800MB of free HDD space.
    Toast versions, as do Apple system software versions, have 'reference releases', which must be bought, and free updates between the upgrades. Older (Adaptec) versions of Toast such as those above can sometimes be found bundled with burner hardware. Data transfer rate and the 68LC040 processor without a maths coprocessor (FPU) will limit you to burn speeds of 2x and less.

  • HT1657 Was watching a movie on my iPad2 and it just stopped, thought it was a low battery but even after charging itbto 100% the movie won't play anymore. It shows the movie chapters but says the movie content can't be played. Please advjise

    Was watching a movie on my iPad2 and the movie stopped playing, I thought it was because of a low battery but even after charging the battery to 100% it still won't play. I can bring up the movie & all the chapters but when I press play it says movie content can not be played. Please advise. Thanks!

    I am having almost the same problem, with the same OS, iTunes versions, and kids waiting to watch their favorite movie (Frozen).  I am (trying) to play the content on the computer, and hooked up to Vizio TV and external stereo.
    The video will display on the TV, but the audio will only play through the laptop. The movie will still play with both audio and video on the laptop.
    In researching this morning, it seems that i need to purchase a new TV and stereo that are HDCP "compliant" (NOT just compatible). Folks are also complaining that the same "won't play" issues directly on Mac hardware.
    I could not find any current software workarounds or patches (Apple seems silent on this as a "problem").
    Upgrading hardware is insulting and (frankly) impossible.  Why should I get new hardware that works perfectly well?
    I was going to get an Apple TV for Christmas, although not if new products cannot be used with my current hardware.   I would rather go back to all Microsoft hardware and software than constantly deal with troubleshooting Apple hardware and software.
    I'm going to uninstall iTunes v 12 and reinstall v 11 to see if that works.
    Please post if there is a solution!

  • Just A Thought About Database I/O

    I was just thinking about the database in Lightroom and came upon a question that I hope I can ask clearly. Let's say I have an image open in the Develop module, and let's say that I click and drag on the Blacks slider. When I move that slider to make changes to the Blacks value, is Lightroom recording to the database
    every change to the Blacks value, or just the final value after I have finished moving the slider?
    Or, let's say that I am typing in a value for Blacks. If I want to type "10" for the Blacks value, is Lightroom recording to the database "1" and then "10" as I type it in, or is it just recording "10"?
    I guess what I'm getting at is Lightroom making these intermediate writes to the database, and if so, why? Is Lightroom writing to the database with that fine a resolution? If so, that may account for some of the slow performance experienced by so many reporting on this Forum.
    If not, then never mind my bizarre thinking... maybe I'm just tired.

    >... LR has started pumping the brakes after only 10K in imports. I'm now wondering how it'll respond when I hit the 100K marker??
    I stand to correct this observation. Although hard wired to a gigabit network drive, my MAC seemed to slow down when it hit 10K in imports. Actually, what happened is that my MAC switched access over to my Airport card. I've disabled wireless and now ingestion and processing is as fast as when my DB was under 10K in imports. I regret not having caught this earlier.
    I'm now up to 20K and LR is still ingesting at sufficient speeds. Not too shabby for a v1.0 product. Hats off to the MAC team. :-)

  • Just some thoughts for Win Users.

    I am not an expert but just a regular forum brouser.
    Is your system mother board is designed for Win XP? Yes,
    then that is what you have got max user RAM 3GB. Your system board may accept two 2GB sticks but the system will only use a max of 3GB. Do not overclock your processor or activate the /3GB option, will not help you on PS or LR but may only cause problems.
    You only get what you pay for no more, no less.
    Win Vista same advice use what the system is designed for.
    Win 7, make sure your motherboard is designed for the system and go for the full install and not the upgrade. If not be prepared to trouble shoot to get the performance optimized.
    Do not expect Lightroom to sort out you OS problems.

    Lots of good replies here; this is typically an OS issue, not an architecture issue. As long as the motherboard and CPU combo supports the (typically -- few of us run the Intel 64-bit server architecture) "amd64" architecture the 64-bit versions of the OS should work fine to see a "flat" (well, flat enough for Windows, which is rather lumpy in its approach to memory) 64-bit memory space.
    With two caveats:
    1. The OS still determines how much memory you see, and Microsoft has tweaked different versions and releases to see varying amounts of physical memory. Some see this as a defect.  See here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(VS.85).aspx
    2. Not all 64-bit operating systems are "64-bit clean." As far as I know, Windows 7 is the only 64-bit clean OS Microsoft has released. That is, the various pieces that make up an OS (kernel, services, driver, &etc.) are all 64-bit, with some of those pieces designed to handle 32-bit addressing if they have to.
    (1) may affect user applications like Lr. (2) will almost certainly not, but it will affect overall system performance.
    Lr does not require 64-bit to work (I assume it will in a future release -- the writing is on the wall) but the right architecture will allow you to run applications with larger address spaces, which means more resources and more efficient use of those resources.
    Ironically, some folks will note that 64-bit has meant some things have gotten much larger. The process stack, threads and other internals have grown much larger with 64-bit platforms. This can sometimes be seen as a larger application footprint and even, in some cases, slower access to some system resources for 64-bit applications. These are extreme cases, however, and the best thing to do is run modest hardware that puts the emphasis on generally efficient processor and memory architecture and an OS that can take advantage of the physical memory you provide.
    The point of the OP is well taken, however. Your "64-bit" OS as installed on your hardware may not, in fact, be able to see anything more than 2-4Gb of your physical memory. Older releases and OEM installs are infamous for setting things up so that all you end up with is a moderately more expensive and slow 32-bit platform.
    Buy a real copy of the OS and install it yourself with none of the taskbar garbage OEMs love to give you.  Make sure you can disable real-time anti-virus protection, or remove it altogether (practice safe computing and you won't need it.) If you purchased from an OEM like Dell, demand your OS media (the are supposed to sell you installation media with pre-installed systems) and install it yourself (or get your local Windows enthusiast to do it for you.) Take regular backups -- actually, take two regular backups; hard drive "bathtub curves" are getting shorter by the year, while the cost per Gb shrink monthly.
    Lr is a demanding app, but nowhere as demanding as many. It will use as much of the physical memory the OS can offer under the right circumstances, but the OS can only ration so much to various processes until something gives. Just because Lr is lagging on your system does not make it the problem! An OS is an ecosystem, and the kernel does its best to ration out resources to running processes.  Hungry foreground processes will just suffer more obviously from strained resources.

  • Just a thought on Creative

    Hello Creative customers and mainly addressed Creative employees,
    I can notice that there is a huge problem with you and windows 7. On most of general help guidelines many times you go only up to windows XP. Somehow Win95 is included but Vista or 7 are not. I am wondering are there really issues you are not capable of solving.
    As programmer I knew the difference between team of bad/non motivated to work programmers and good programmers like my self or even above average great people. I knew that if you have all instructions on how to do something ( I am sure MS is providing you with those ) you can write good stable drivers in a week. I also knew that MS have issues but with a decent cooperation programmers must be able to work it out if baseline code is written neatly and cleanly.
    When you have variety of hardware it might be a bit difficult to figure things out but it is a process of eliminating single troublemakers not drivers that after few years behave like a lazy fat ass that farts and c***s out when it pleases because it can't fit in to a bathroom.
    So I am just wondering what am I missing here Is it lack of cooperation, communications skills, availability of good programmers or managers that are motivated to work Is it a business move Are you dominating market so hardly that you are afraid of anti trust policies I recall the fact that Bill Gates financed Apple when it was about to disappear from market. In that case why don't you just create your own AMD or something like that, give them technology and dictate their pace behind scene. But PLEASE just give us some drivers that work.
    I knew you can do it!
    BR.

    Hi slobos....
    U words r Brilliant....

Even an Onboard HD Audio Has these Features, u knw hw it sounds with out these options it's falt No Base,No Treble Nouthing..... Microsoft isPreparing for Windows 8 but Creative has no proper Drivers for Windows 7.... May be wen Windows 8 is out tey will Provide Windows 7 BeTa BeTa Drivers..... y tey have no Programmers, We Have a atleast a working drivers and Software Suites with the help of our Friends

  • MBP Wackiness (Just a thought and a Phone call)

    So there are us "fence-sitters" who are clearly leaning in the direction of buying the MBP, regardless. But all this talk of revisions and weird noises has got us bothered.
    So I did the only thing I could do: I made a phone call. Now FIRST and foremost I am not making light of a very real issue that has surfaced. I am simply reporting to those of us who are worried about purchasing one.
    I called the retailer from whom I purchase all my stuff from and spoke with the guy who helps me. Well, actually I give him my credit card number and he sends me what I ask for. For posterity and the fact that I didn't ask for permission I am not mentioning the organization or the name of the guy that takes my money. So this is today's conversation:
    "So just be straight with how bad are the problems?"
    "We've sold more than a hundred. We've gotten three back"
    "What about the whine?"
    "One. One of those was a whine issue.''
    "Do you get any other information regarding the problems."
    "You think we would, but a lot of times they treat us like mushrooms"
    "So, you think I could order one and it wouldn't be a problem"
    "Well, so far we're 99% and they took that one back."
    So if it's worth anything to you fence sitters: I'm ordering one. Well, I still have to wait for the funds. But by the end of the month, I'll let you know how it's going.
      Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    I'm not saying that your "guy" is lying, but it's VERY possible that he could be. How often do you make a return to a salesman? Never. Unless it's a one man band, however this cannot be the case if they've sold over a 100.
    This guy is a salesman, do you think his boss would be impressed if he didn't say whatever possible to make a sale? I bet his boss would have the logic of "sell the product now, deal with any issues later".
    The other issue is, your "guy" doesn't know how many people are A) just living with it, B) contacted Apple directly and they are taking care of the problem.
    Let's be honest, we know the problem exists, some people can live with it (like myself, I'm a sucker for the latest a greatest first gen crap,) and some people can't. If you're one of those people who think everything has to be perfect in this world and humans cannot make any errors, don't buy now.

  • Just a Thought

    Do you notice its actually fun to be on hold when you call apple support?
    They got some good music to entertain you while you wait. If u want music with out an ipod just use ur cell and call apple. LOL (make sure u got unlimited mins or it might be costly).

    I agree with Robert: you go out for the evening and you want to take a few pictures but you have to set up the camera again for every shot - it's a real pain.
    I would go one step further than Robert though. The camera has to have a light meter of sorts: why can't it work out that it's dark and switch to night settings itself? I would only have to interfere if for some reason I wanted to override the camera's selection.

  • Just a thought - XML Multi Gallery

    Hello there... I was just thinking of an appropriate way to build a multi-gallery using XML. If someone could tell me just the main idea of doing this I would really appreciate it. Just tell me how to structure the XML file, and the proper approach of accessing and loading in the images of each separate set of images. Thanks in advance!

    ok suppose I want to create a drop down list which contains the name of every set of images. I'll give u an example:
    XML Code:
    <gallery>
         <imageSet>
              <image title="image1" url="image1.jpg />
              <image title="image2" url="image2.jpg />
              <image title="image3" url="image3.jpg />
              <image title="image4" url="image4.jpg />
         <imageSet/>
         <imageSet>
              <image title="image5" url="image5.jpg />
              <image title="image6" url="image6.jpg />
              <image title="image7" url="image7.jpg />
              <image title="image8" url="image8.jpg />
         <imageSet/>
         <imageSet>
              <image title="image9" url="image9.jpg />
              <image title="image10" url="image10.jpg />
              <image title="image11" url="image11.jpg />
              <image title="image12" url="image12.jpg />
         <imageSet/>
    </gallery>
    then let's say I want to retrieve each image set alone and when it is selected from a dropdown list the images are displayed...
    var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, processXML);
    xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest("gallery.xml"));
    function processXML(e:Event)
         var xml:XML = XML(e.currentTarget.data);
         var imageSets:XMLList = new XMLList(xml.data);
         for (var i:uint = 0; i < imageSets.length(); i++)
              var sets:Array = new Array();
              // ok now I want to retrieve each image set from the xml and push it into this array, and then I would use this array in the dropdown list
    //I'm stuck here...

  • Hey just a thought mayby just see this message and reply

    just wondering what apple ment to say if your ipod isnt fixed or not really reparible
    they say ill need to have a billable
    replacement request created.
    what does that mean pls tell me...?

    From http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/#warranty6
    "If Apple determines that an iPod is not repairable, for example, if it has failed due catastrophic damage or the iPod has been disassembled into multiple pieces, then Out-of-Warranty Service is not available and the iPod will be returned"
    If that is indeed what Apple has determined, you will need to buy a new iPod. Otherwise you will be charged the exchange pricing:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
    and Apple will send you a replacement unit.
    If you have further questions, contact Apple technical support.
    Regards.

  • Just a thought apple.

    I want to make a suggestion that i think apple should consider. I think iMac should have a tower version like mac pro for those people who doesn't like all in one computer like me and for those people who dont want to go back and forth to the store bcoz of there hard drive stop working or the screen has a yellow tint and needs to be replace and not have a computer while its getting repaired. I know that there is a mac pro if someone needs the tower or power but for some people mac pro is to ppowerful and expensive machine...what im saying is a tower that has the imac specs in it, atleast that way the person that owns it can add ram and hdd by him/her self.

    I agree, people have been clamoring for a "Mini Tower" for ages, but the closest you can come is a Mac Mini!
    PS. The crazy Video port options/demands drive me crazy though.

  • Hey just a thought

    hey whats up everyone...
    got to know when a rep from apple says they got the shippment..
    Our records indicate that your product was delivered to us on 31 January 2011. The
    estimated turnaround for iPod service is one week.
    how long or time in a week would it come too?
    before friday or the whole week?
    im not to concerened.

  • List of Arch Linux ports - to the wiki, just a thought.

    So I know that Arch Linux is x86 optimised, and I know there is a mobile and a PPC version... what other versions are there?
    There is also Arch Hurd, and another one which I forgot.
    Is there a wiki page which summarises the different version?
    if there isn't, as they all essentially belong to Arch Linux, shouldn't there be a wiki page?
