  • L channel sound comes through both L and R speakers after installing IDT High Definition Audio Codec

I noticed a sound problem on my laptop. The R channel works as expected but the L channel is split between the L and R speakers. After checking several different possibilities I narrowed the problem down to the IDT High Definition Audio Codec that I downloaded from the HP driver support page for my notebook model and operating system.
I uninstalled the IDT High Definition Audio Codec and restarted. This forced Windows to resort to using its generic "HD Audio Device" default. When I did this the sound was equally split between the L and R speakers as I would expect - L channel 100% though L speaker, R channel 100% though R speaker. I then re-downloaded the IDT High Definition Audio Codec from HP (sp59654.exe), re-installed it, and restarted. Immediately the sound problem was back - while the R channel comes 100% though the R speaker, the L channel is split between L and R speakers.
Please note this has nothing to do with adjusting speaker "balance". Both L and R channel volumes were set to 100% while investigating this problem. It's definitely some sort of incompatibilty between the IDT High Definition Audio Codec and Windows 8 64-bit or the sound hardware in the HP Envy DV6.
    Here are my details:
    IDT High Definition Audio Codec
    Publisher: IDT
    Date: 8/19/2012
    Version: 6.10.6425.0
    Notebook
    HP Envy DV6-7200
    Windows 8 64-bit

Here is what I would recommend you trying. Go to device manager and uninstall the audio driver. Once it is uninstalled, go to the device manager toolbar and select "Scan for hardware changes". After it completes, reboot the computer. Once the computer is rebooted, test the audio and let me know if that helped.

  • HP Probook 4530s IDT High Definition Audio Codec Speakers

    As the title states:
    HP Probook 4530s
    Windows 7 OS
    IDT High Definition Audio Codec
The laptop quit playing through it's speakers, but will play through the headphone jacks when plugged in.  Tolerated it for about 8 months now.  Recently, while playing with it I noticed that if the System is set to headphones and you double click on the slider it begins to play through the laptop speakers for approximately 1 second.  You have to keep double clicking to maintain sound through the speakers.
Now, when I go to Speakers/HP Properties it shows that the sound is to the bottom 3.5mm jack & front 3.5mm jack.  This laptop has NO bottom 3.5mm jack on it, only the front 3.5mm jack.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, looked for new drivers and thought about installing an old driver but not sure how far back to go.  Any suggestions would be a great help here.  If you need more info please let me know what you need and where to find it and I'll provide it.  Now that I know the speakers actually do work, I'd love to be able to use them again.

Now to help out with troubleshooting this here is a pic and what I think is going on:
Notice that the jacks are allegedly on the bottom and front for the speakers, only issue is there is no jack on the bottom and the front jack is for the headphones.  the 10-18-2012 update that HP is tossing around ignores the fact that there is no bottom jack for the HP 4530s, g7, pavilion and dv7.  I've had all of these over the years.  It seems someone wrote a driver that is one size fits all and totally missed that these speakers are located someplace else.
So the question is, how do we reassign the location so it puts sound to the speakers?

  • Keep having to disable and re-enable my IDT High Definition Audio CODEC, what's wrong?

    Hi!
I have a Pavillion Touchsmart Sleekbook 14" with Windows 8 that I bought new about 7 months ago. I have not yet updated to Windows 8.1.
Recently I have noticed that my audio will suddenly stop working. This typically happens when my computer has been sleeping and I start it up again. The audio does not come out through the internal speakers or headphones when I plug them in. I have not tried external speakers but I imagine the result would be the same.
If I go into my Device Manager and disable and re-enable the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC the sound returns. All sound devices I have listed are related to this IDT High Definition Audio. I have tried updating the drivers, however it informs me the most updated drivers are already installed.
I am not entirely sure what is causing this problem, but I do recall installing a Windows or HP update awhile back regarding IDT High Definition Audio. I believe it was an optional update.
EDIT: After doing some further research it looks like it is related to that Windows update and the compatibility of their IDT audio drivers with Windows 8 or 8.1 does not seem very good. If all else fails I will try uninstalling the IDT CODEC all together and use the default HP audio.
Has anyone found a solution that works for them regarding this issue?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59001-59500/sp59291.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow thisand then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Start the notebook and let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Windows 10 IDT High Definition Audio Codec doesn't work properly on Hp Envy 20d001-la after update

I'm using a Windows 10 just updated pc, Hp Envy 20 d001la,  and I'm having problems with my speakers, they work with  IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver. It has beatsAudio available, but the bass don't sound the right way, I can barely hear it. It has a low quality sound...  the worst quality. This problem isn't new for me, when upgraded to Windows 8.1, also the problem apeared, when the driver released with a new version, specificly for Windows 8.1, but how did I solve it? I only installed the Original Audio Controller found on Hp Support & drivers page (It was designed for work on Windows 8 64 bits). So, I know Windows 10 is newer than ever, and sure of some bugs or little corrections after updating. But when I try to install the Windows 8 Original controller to get the extreme sound quality again, it can't be installed. The problem says: "Operating system doesn't has the requirements" The new drivers have low sound quality (driver Windows 8.1 & Windows 10 versions) If I could install the Windows 8 version driver, I'm sure the sound quality returns. Thanks in advance.

Hi!  Thanks a lot, I've tried the solution you've given me, (extracted the setup file with winrar on a folder and search for the driver as you said) but an error message shows: "There are not compatible drivers on the selected folder, try with one for Windows x64" It happens with both drivers I have, W8 & W8.1 versions. And also I have other problem, I didn't connect the headphones when trying solving the problem, and when I connected them, a surprise: The speakers didn't shutdown, they continue playing sounds and the headphones and speakers were playing sound at the same time. I've checked for the internal connector and The connector is clean. Then I tried to install W8.0 IDT setup manually clicking on the files extracted, the process finished succesfully, and system restarted, the sound quality came again, but still when I connect the headphones, the speakers don't shutdown and sometimes music stops. The problem is with all versions of driver I tried, the W10 got by Windows update, the found on Device Manager, the W8 , W8.1installed manually, But not worked.I hope in a future upade the problem could be solved, because I listen to music always only on headphones to avoid disturb others. Thanks, I'm trying a new method if is kanown for you. Thanks a lot.

  • System loses the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC Driver ver 6.10.6491.0 after some time

IDT High Definition Audio CODEC 6.10.6491.0 installed in our HP Envy Notebook - C8U19AV with Windows Pro 8.1 64 bit OS, the system will lose the driver. When I go into device manager it appears that the codecs are there but the driver for the audio just gets lost. We have to repeatedly uninstall all the audio components and then reinstall again. This has been the situation for some time. I cannot say for sure but I have reinstalled the driver twice now for my wife and she has done it a few times. We commonly use the laptop connected to an HP2710m display monitor with an HDMI cable. From time to time we plug in Bose headphones as well. The diver revision 6.10.6491.0 was again installed today after fully uninstalling the prior driver. The common signature is the sound does not work at some point and when I go in and check on the audio codec it will report no driver loaded. Any attempt to run the sp63407 install package without ripping out everything will result in the driver install failing as some of the prior files will has security that prevents the over write of the old files with the new ones.
I can seen no obvious reason for this laptop to repeatedly lose the driver. Once the reinstall is done the sound works again but it is a real bother to have to repeatedly reinstall the audio driver.

    Hey purplefacemcgee,
With your issue being for Windows 7, and not for Windows 8.1, the troubleshooting steps will be a little bit different. I would first suggest reinstalling your original sound drivers. I have included the document 'Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7)', please click on the option for Hardware Driver Reinstallation, and follow through the steps for reinstalling your original sound driver only.
Now once you have installed the original driver, you will need update your sound drivers. You can do both the Windows, and HP updates that are recommended for your notebook from the HP Support Assistant. I have included the document 'Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 7, Windows Vista)', Please click on the option for Maintaining your computer and installing the latest software updates. Pretty much once you do have the HP Support Assistant open click on Maintain, and then Software Updates. Please install all updates that are listed. After the updates have been installed, please restart your notebook, and test the sound.
If by chance you are still experiencing the same issue, I would suggest running the Microsoft Fix It tool for 'Automatically diagnose and fix Windows audio playback problems'. This tool will check the settings, drivers, and services to make sure that it is running correctly, and try to fix any issues. Please follow through these steps to run the tool, click on the green Run now button > click Save > open the download > click Run. What was the outcome of the tool, are you still experiencing the same issue with the sound?
If you are still experiencing the sound issue after the above troubleshooting steps, please let me know exactly what is happening with your sound. (ie, no sound, sound is choppy, or distorted). Does the sound issue occur in multiple programs, or just one? (ie. Windows Media Player, YouTube, or CD/DVD).
Looking forward to working with you!

  • No Sound after updating IDT High Definition Audio Codec on my HP Pavilion dv6-6154tx laptop

I recently ran Advanced Driver Update to check and updated my audio driver (IDT High Definition Audio Codec) on my Windows 7 laptop. However, after the update, every time I boot up the computer, there is no audio output. I checked the volume control options and they are all fine, showing "all devices are playing sound". But there is no sound. Even the 'test sound' option does not play any audio, although the computer says that it is working fine. I read some posts on this forum and came across an answer - to uninstall the current driver from Device Manager, and manually install IDT HD Audio Driver for Windows. This works and I am able to get back the sound. However, I have to do this every time I start my computer after shutting it down, and this is proving cumbersome. Can somebody please help me with this and suggest a solution? Thanks.

  • CP4 / Windows 7 / IDT High Definition Audio CODEC / No worky

    Hi,
I just got a new laptop with Windows 7 which has a IDT High Definition Audio CODEC sound card.
I got Captivate 4 installed and seemly working great... UNTIL I go to record the voice over.  It doesn't recognize my microphone.  It's not that the sound quality is bad - it just doesn't record at all.  No green or red appear when calibrating input.
I checked and set volume in the sound control panel and it works there.
I tried to record with Soundbooth and had the same problem.  Doesn't recognize it.  Tired all available drop downs, line in, microphone etc.
I'm not sure what to do next.
Anyone run into this before or have any ideas about how to solve this?
    Many thanks,
    Aimee

FYI - for others who may experience this problem with Win7
This problem was resolved by a combination of steps.
    1) updating the driver on the sound card to a Win7 compatible
    2) replacing the .dll file in the captivate installation folder (see http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/03/audio_play_back_and_usb_mic_is.html)
I thought the updated .dll file by now would be a part of the CP4 patch but it isn't - so if you experience this problem you need both apply the patch and replace the .dll file.
    Thanks,
    Aimee
