Speakers are not recognized while in OSX 10.7.3 can't restart without power button (don't know if they are related)

I am willing to split up the two symptoms if they are not related. But I know the speakers aren't broken because I hear the Bong noise at boot, but to my misfortune I made the mistake of deleting something (important I guess) in the Audio Midi Setup (Audio Devices window). I was trying to figure out how to split audio tracks between my headphones and speakers so I could listen to music in one ear while skyping (sounds stupid I know, but I stay on Skype with a long distance coworker most of the day). I guess some 17 hours ago when the failure happened I found on Google that there were sound settings in the Audio Midi Setup and had the great idea to go clicking around in there. Somehow deleted the black option thing (only got a quick look) when my computer lagged and then no more sound... I've been trying to fix it with stuff I found on google but I think I made it worse because now my macbook hangs on a black screen during the shutdown process when I choose to restart from the Apple Menu up there in the top left of my screen. I'm out of Ideas, I've tried clearing P & V rams or whatever several times and gone through almost every post on these forums and google that I can find that have any words relevant to what is the problem. After 15 hours of trying on my own I thought I'd ask for help.
Any additional info I can provide let me know please.

I started having connectivity issues to my 10.6.8 server from my 10.7 client immediately after updating the client to 10.7.3. FWIW. Takes forever to connect, when it does. After just milliconds before.

The iPhoto Window reports the size of the library that would result if you exported all the current versions +and nothing else+ to a folder on the desktop.
The iPhoto Library Folder contains the Original, Modified and thumbnail versions of your pics. It also contains various cache and database files +all of which are necessary+ for the working of the Library.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
You can run a Library on an external disk:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

My e-mail messages are disappearing from my inbox after only three days and I don't know where they are going or how to retrieve them and need help with this!

THe messages are not in my archives and I don't delete them as soon as I get them. Where in the world are they going? I needed a number of them in order to make appropriate responses, and they are no longer in my inbox!

Are you in a country where films can be redownloaded - the page that you posted from should list countries and where the different content types can be redownloaded. But even if you, not all countries have agreed to allow their films be redownloaded, and there is no guarantee that a film (or any other item) will remain in the store, so you shouldn't rely on being able to redownload them. You also can't add films and/or tv programmes to the cloud, whether an item appears there depends upon your country, the film studio, and if it remains in the store.

That happened because you synce'd your phone to a new computer, the phone can only be synce'd with one library. You can get all your songs back if they were puchased in itunes. Go to purchased in itunes store and download is at the bottom of the page.

I can't access my pictures anymore through iPhoto because I simply don't know where they are stored when imported into iPhoto. The library used automatically before is not shown anymore. Can anyone help me to recover all my pictures?

Do you have an iPhoto library in yoru pictures folder? If you depress and hold the option key and launch iPhoto - what do you see in the select library window? Select each library there and see what you have

My computer has 8g of photos but I don't know where they are!

I think I may have done something in the past to mess up the library since I can't figure out what is going on. My disk is full, only 1.7 g left- I downloaded whatsize to see why, and it shows over 8 gigs in my photos, but I only have 500 photos, jpg's, in it. I delete photos using the delete button, usually, and empty the iphoto trash. My preferences to copy to the library folder is checked and always has been I believe. My screensaver shows pictures I long since deleted, or so I thought, from "iphoto library".
I have read Terence's instructions to others on rebuilding a new library- will this get rid of these unwanted photos? I did not know not to mess with iphoto from anywhere but iphoto til now, I likely moved or renamed something in the past. Where the bloody **** are they and what should I do? Am I deleting wrong? Thanks for any help for an artist struggling to use the other side of her brain.

Two files I don't know what they are.

I'm a fairly new Mac owner who switched from the dreaded pc. If I could marry my MacBook Pro I probably would except I think it's illegal to marry inanimate objects in the state of Wisconsin.
There are two files in the Macintosh HD folder; dbg.gz / Apr 19, 2009 / gzip compressed archive and test.txt / Apr 18, 2009 / Plain text. When I open the plain text file is says initClientSocket. I would like to delete these files if I don't need them or if I do can I hide these?

How do i disconnect shared computers on my mac? I live on residence in college and some random guy named Ben is connected to my computer. I tried unselecting bonjour and stuff and restarted several times as well as disconnecting the ethernet. Any idea?

Can I ask you how you know (why you think) that Ben is connected to your computer? If you're seeing "Ben's Computer" (or whatever) in the "Shared" section of your Finder's sidebar, this does not mean that Ben has access to your computer. It means that his computer is on the same wireless network as yours, and he potentially has file-sharing ports open on his computer. So, if anything, you would be able to connect to his computer if you knew his login. Frank's advice is correct to prevent your computer showing up in his Shared section (even so, he would still need to know your login to connect; best to turn off Sharing altogether as above).
