speakers buzzing when laptops on? Hello,
I have logitech x-530 speakers and they buzz when the laptop is turned on. These speakers are connected to my desktop PC and work fine when the laptop is turned off, as soon as the laptop is turned on they buzz all withing the /4 volume range but it fades out the louder you turn the speakers up.
Has any one any idea of this? as it has done it with various sound cards, motherboards, cpu, ram, and routers so I am guessing they are not the course.
I just replaced the motherboard, soundcard, cpu, router less then a month ago but was doin this befor then as well. But seems to be louder now then it used to be
my specs now are:
logitech x-530speakers
creative soundblaster x-fi xtremegamer fatalty pro sound card
gigabyte MA790GP-UD4H motherboard?
amd phenom II 940 cpu
nvidia 9800 gtx+ graphics card
2 sticks ddr 800Mhz OCZ fatalty ram

not sure if any the computer parts are the problem, the laptop is also connected threw wireless its not on the wireless N network but can be changed if that may help.

Have you tried another mouse??? Maybe that is causing the issue...
Also, are you plugged into a 3 prong grounded outlet?

Inbuilt speakers buzz when volume is maxed?

When i turn the volume up on my 13" MBP, the speakers will buzz, slightly like distortion. Only when noise is being played through them. There is no buzz when headphones are attached... how do I fix this, and/or will it be covered under the one year warranty it came with. Also, if I buy apple care, will it cover anything if it breaks? like software and external problems? (like the speakers, or cracked screen etc.)

These speakers are small and not intended for playing loudly. No one here can give you an answer as to whether Apple will consider it a warranty issue, so the best thing to do is contact Apple. Buying an Apple Protection Plan does not cover physical damage (a cracked screen due to impact, dropping it, spilling on it, denting it, etc.).

External speakers buzz when charger is connected

My Cambridge Sound works speakers have a continual buzz, but only when my computer is plugged into its power source.
Any solutions?

External speakers buzz when FW HD connected

I bought couple of external firewire Fantom drives to store my mp3 files but when connected to the PB they cause the speakers (external, powered) to emit a buzz that sounds like they pick up the HD spinning noise. It doesn't happen with iMac or any other hard drives I have (including older Fantom). Length of the cable, position in chain (if chained) or the placement don't seem to matter. Any insights?

1) Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Remove any devices connected to the notebook. Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook - check if the speakers are now working.
2) Please First check if the speaker icon on the unit is not muted.
3) Go to device manager and uninstall the Sound driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
4) Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
5) Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios.
Let us know how it goes!

External Speaker big pop/buzz when connecting or disconnecting audio cable

My external speakers make a big buzz/pop every time I connect or disconnect the stereo mini 1/8" plug into the headphone jack -- if the speakers are turned up high at the time, it's enough to blow them.
This doesn't happen with headphones - just external powered sound. If I turn the external speakers way down or off, there is no pop/buzz when connecting; muting the sound through the Macbook Pro has no effect.
This happens on all external speaker systems I've tried (including the Soundsticks currently), and regardless of whether the MB is plugged in to power or not, and with or without any other external USB or Firewire devices attached. I've also tried various cables & connectors -- always the same result. This does not happen with the same speakers on an older iMac.
I've spoken to a couple other MB owners who have the same problem.
Any way around this? It would be easy enough to turn off the external speakers next the MB every time I plug or unplug -- but with it feeding 3 stereo systems throughout the house, it's a bit much every time...

With all do respect, this is not the problem here. I have the same problem as described by the thread starter, and having worked in the audio producing industry for many many years I can say with certainty that what you are describing is something else.
Sure, the traditional "high-volume-on-AMP-while-connecting-signal-source" issue is still present, as it is with any product you connect like that, but this is different: when a headphone is inserted, you can hear a clearly audible "click" followed by a very noticable humming/buzzing sound. It is almost like the machine has "fired up the audio engine" and you get to hear the idle sound.
If I play music in iTunes, stop playing, leave the headphone connected, the humming/buzzing disappears after a while, and when I press play on iTunes, the same "click/humming/buzz" is heard, even though I haven't pysically touched the connector.

SIM card makes my speakers buzz

well i know this isnt a direct problem with my iphone, and that all phones do this. but when the SIM card is active and doing junk it makes my PC speakers buzz like crazy and make alot of strange noises . I use a Creative Inspire T6100 5.1 Set . i know it has something to do with the fact that PC speakers (or at least speakers from creative) are not shielded electronically. so i was wondering if anyone knew for certain what brand for PC Speakers shield their wiring internally so this is not a problem? Unless its just a general PC Speaker problem. cause nothing else (car speakers or home speakers) buzz whenever my phone is active.

theres about 100+ posts here about this already. it has to do with your phone communicating with cell towers. when it is not communicating, it does not create the buzz.

Does your MacBook Pro Retina speakers buzz?

I have the new MacBook Pro Retina, which I absolutely love. The only issue so far is that the speakers buzz sometimes. I've tried different equalizer settings, which helps somewhat. Has anyone else experienced a buzzing or distortion in their audio output? It almost sounds as though a speaker is blown.

This is what I think the problem with the MB Pro Retina speakers is...
Frequency Response is very good. The speakers sound great with distinct sounds across a wide range of frequencies. But it sounds horrible with low quality TV or movie recordings where a lot of mid range and low frequency sounds hit at the same time in a muddled mess. Volume Handling is simply horrible across the mid and lower frequencies. Many movies will buzz when there is a lot of speech, music and bass going on at the same time unless you lower the volume to 1~2 bars.
This is not a problem with the recording except that the MBP Retina speakers don't like them. Recordings and low quality compression DOES NOT BUZZ, period. They may be low definition, they may sound muddled, they may have cut offs from exceeding the allowed dyanmic range, but they do not buzz. If you play the same movie on external speakers they will not buzz. If I play the same movie on my Dell Adamo it does not buzz. Listening to the same section of the same source on my earphones produce zero buzzing.
I am not sure if the problem is with the speakers themselves of other elements within the MBP Retina vibrating in resonance. But it is definitely annoying. And it sounds like component speakers with improper or missing crossover components allowing frequencies the speakers cannot handle at decent volumes to contaminate the driver or attempting to use mid-bass speakers as sub-woofers -- they actually have the frequency response just grossly insufficient travel of the diaphrams and cannot handle any decent volume.
We may be able to figure out the problematic frequencies and do a narrow cut in volume on them if we have a graphic equalizer. Unfortunately, unlike Realtek and IDT drivers, the Cirrus Logic drivers do not offer an EQ. I am tempted to open the MBP Retina up and try to graft an adhoc crossover onto the four speakers in form of caps and inductors. Given the low wattage of the components the caps and inds will be pretty small. But haven't gotten around to it yet... and part of me don't want to rip the MBP apart.

As I said - look whether your original file is damaged or not. If not, I wouldn't change it and find out what in your system makes it sound like it's clipping.
Good sound file, with volume maxed out. No need to change anything.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
11. Reset the NVRAM.
12. Reset the SMC.
13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

Sound Buzz when transferring file from Trash to desktop

I get the occasional Sound Buzz when transferring file from Trash to desktop
Its a Short "grounding" buzz similar to slowly plugging an electric guitar when the amp is on, but its loud !

Brett - thanks for that input, but as stated in my original post this happens whether I do the copy within Finder, or from inside Bridge.
Your note did inspire me to try one thing though: I UN-checked my Bridge preference to export caches to folders when possible, then I went to the folder I was trying to move (on the NAS) and did Tools > Cache > Purge Cache. I found that if the folder contained only files and no other folders, then I could move the folder to my desktop. However, if the folder in question had nested folders, then I still run into the same conflict.
Question: since this conflict does not happen when moving a folder from one computer to another computer (but only from the NAS to a computer), I'm not sure how your logic holds when you say "Bridge is trying to cache the files you are moving and creates a ".BridgeCacheT" file before the remote version is copied"
To answer your other question, we use AFP or at least is says "afp://server.local" when we connect. My apologies for not being an expert on this. The icon of the NAS on the desktop looks like the icons for the other computers.

It is hard to be sure without seeing it, but it sounds like a bad connection to the docking port. (bad motherboard)

External speakers "pop" when mac mini is asleep

I've got some Creative 5.1 speakers plugged into my mini, only using the left and right speakers. When the computer is asleep, the speakers make a popping noise that lasts through the computer waking up and until I change the volume on the computer. As soon as I change the volume, the popping stops until the next time the computer goes to sleep -- then it starts back up again.
Any clues on how to fix this? Thanks!

The problem is in the design of the speakers.
The amplifier circuit works any time the speakers are on. When there is no music, it amplifies the noise that is present. Some circuits have leaks and collect electricity until it builds up. Once it reaches a high enough level, the capacitor discharges and you hear a pop.
The mini should send no signal when sleeping - you can check this by disconnecting the speaker - but leave it sitting in the back of the mini. All of the cords at the back of the computer emit electricity - expecially the power cord. Having the speaker cable next to the other cables - it acts like an antenna and picks up noise. You might have luck shielding your speaker cable if this really annoys you. Otherwise, you need to get a better amplifier in your speakers to filter this noise or reduce the leakage current.

Buzz when using 1/4 inch cables?

This isn't a question about Logic per se but I figure this would be the best place to get an answer.
So I've found using many different setups that I consistently get a low-level buzzing when monitoring or recording from a 1/4 inch cable.
I've used an M-Audio MobiePre as well as an Apogee Duet with the same issue (although the Duet did do much better at minimizing it). It doesn't come up when recording from microphone XLR's. It happens recording both my several keyboards and electric guitar.
My assumption was that it's a grounding issue. I bought a grounded outlet protector to no avail, tried a few different patch cables, plugged in my mac and keyboard to the same or different outlets in different homes. Tried with the mac running off battery, wi-fi and bluetooth disabled, all the electronics in the house off, cellphone gone, nothing seems to do it. Only once have I managed to get rid of it, but I've never been able to duplicate.
Is this a macbook hardware issue? I'm not sure who I should be calling to troubleshoot this with, Apple, M-Audio, my keyboard or patch cable providers or manufacturers...
Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time,

If you are using the SAME 1/4" CABLE, please replace it with another one, and see if the hum goes away.
Otherwise, get a DI with Ground disconnect capability (most have this) and use that to plug into your Mac.
