Speakers for my imac

i want to get a pair of speakers for my imac 27 inch late 2013 as i like listening to my music very loud the built in ones are a great sound but they ain't loud to what i like can anyone recommend a good pair of speakers good bass and loud thanks

It is all a matter of personal taste - and how much you want to spend.  The Apple Store sells a large selection of speaker systems for you iMac.
Personally (and I do mean this), I like Bose and the rich quality of the sound I get.  Others perfer Bowers & Wilkins or even Bang & Olufsen (if you really do have deep pockets), but the best thing to do is to go have a demonstration of these and others in a store (take your favourite CD with you!!!!).

  • Best external speakers for my iMac

I am looking at the Bose Companion 3 and Companion 5 speakers for my iMac. If I understand correctly, the difference is the 5 does surround sound and is great for movies. I want great speakers for audio.

    Hi Bryan
I think it depends on where your iMac is setup!
If your iMac is setup in your den or family room and you allready have a nice stereo system just pickup a mini headphone to RCA adapter and RCA cables and hook it up. If you do not have a decent stereo then yes the Bose or an upper end 5.1 system is the way to go.

If your iMac is setup in a small office, any of the 2.1 systems would sound real nice for a-lot less cash. I have a Creative Inspire 2.1 system in my office, the satellite speakers are in the corners of the room (instead of blaring in my face) and the Sub under my desk. The setup sounds great, it has good R & L channel separation and the sub rumbles/thumps the floor real nice.

  • Digital Speakers for my Imac 20"

    Hi,
My 20" iMac Intel Core 2 Duo comes with a s/p dif (digital) audio input/output, and i'm looking at all speakers sold by apple on their web site - NONE OF THEM ARE DIGITAL SPEAKERS, the usual input is standard stereo pin.
I'm looking for some good speakers for my iMac which make use of the digital output provided.
    Please advice

ya digital speakers are cool! i have some boston acoustics 2.1 speakers that sound sweet. if you dont plug them into a digital 1/4" mini jack no sound comes out. lol gotta luv digital speakers eh? good point man!

  • Speakers for my iMac G5

I am currently using the iMac G4 and am handing it down to my husband; I purchased a new iMac G5. when I bought the G4, for some reason, I purchased speakers-- they look like round spheres. They work great-- don't know why I bought them, though. Should I keep these speakers for the G5 or purchase new speakers? Speakers weren't offered as an accessory on the website.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Nancy, you may be using Apple Pro Speakers on your G4. I have them on my G4 and they are not compatible with the new systems. At one time Griffen sold a gadget that let you use the speakers on new Macs, but the item is no longer for sale.
I need to reiterate that the iMac G5 has pretty decent speakers for their size and location. Note that I am not an audiophile, the built in speakers would not be good enough for some people. I am in the market for external speakers and I hope to attend MacWorld Expo where you can pick up some good deals.
For Christmas I bought my son an iHome 2Go iPod boombox/charger. I don't know how it sounds yet, but it has a line-in so it could be hooked up to a computer. It looks real handy when you need portable A/C and battery powered iPod amp and speaker. If it sounds good I may pick one up for myself http://www.ihomeaudio.com

  • What One Specification Should I Look for When Buying Optical 5.1 Speakers for the iMac 27" i7?

Hi. I have an analog 5.1 (it came from my previous PC setup) now but only the subwoofer works, the controller for its satellite speakers maybe have been busted by the high voltage from the outlet (I've since gotten a nice AVR). If replace it since the late 2009 iMac and Macs in general only do surround sound (5.1 or higher) if it's not analog. I've read somewhere that is should be digital or optical.
When I look for the specification that'll make this Mac do 5.1 surround, what should I look for in the speaker's specifications. I believe the non-analog 5.1 speakers are way more expensive, I'll probably buy one used but what brand and model can anyone recommend that's not that expensive, iMac/Mac compatible and will be easy to setup (you just plug it in into it's the headphone jack at the back) that'll do 5.1 on Lion and Snow Leopard (I have both installed for backup OSes and experiments). Thank you in advance.

  • Speakers for new iMac G5

I'm planning on purchasing the new iMac G5; do I need to purchase external speakers, or does the iMac come with speakers?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Spinnn,
I am sorry to say that I don't have that sound. I very rarely boot my system though (only for updates etc). I am assuming you checked all of the connections to make sure they are tight? The first time I hooked up the speakers I didn't relize they had shapes on the inputs to make sure they went into the left and right jacks. Stupid me. It is just possible you have a bad output jack on the iMac. You tried other speakers and heard the same thing. Have you tried another electrical outlet? Have you taken the speakers and out them on another computer?

  • Looking for speakers for my iMac...

I am looking to wire multiple speakers in our house so I can play music on my iMac and get the sound to where I want it to be. I am looking for any advice on brand choices, necessary configurations and/or adapters. I would like to have an expandable system so I have the option to wire at least 4 speakers to reach multiple floors of house, and I would like to keep cost down (under $300?)
    Anybody have recommendations?

You could just get a few airport express' either used off eBay or if your budget stretches some new ones, you can then plug whatever speakers you like into them and stream the music to either one or more than one of them from your iMac wirelessly over your network, if you have an iPod touch or iPhone there is even a free remote control app allowing you to play what you want from your iTunes library and to which speakers.

  • Speakers for iMac through Airport Express

    Hi....
I've got a new iMac and will be purchasing some Bose Companion 3 speakers very shortly. My question is - Can I use the Airport Express to have my iMac on one side of the room and the speakers on the other side?, will it make any difference in sound quality doing this?.
Also, if I purchase a remote for the iMac, will i be able to do standard stuff like volume, skip, etc with iTunes?
Many thanks for any help, its very much appreciated.
    Scott

    Yes to both questions.
One use for an AE is remote speakers for iTunes. What I am not familiar with is whether there is any lag time if you broadcast to remote speakers over wi-fi with an AE. The reason I bring that up is because, unlike with speakers plugged into your iMac's audio outport, when you use remote speakers over wi-fi, you can still use your built in speakers as well. Using both sets at once would not be cool if there was a lag.
The Apple remote was made to use for exactly what you mention in your question.

  • Hooking up M-Audio Studiopro 3 Speakers to an iMac

    Hello Folks,
I'd like to hook up my M-Audio Studiopro 3 speakers to my iMac.
I see the speaker input on the back of the iMac but it's only a single input, my speakers have left and right cables. Do I need to get some sort of adaptor or is there another solution?
    Thanks!

Well, if you'd a dug deeper, Looby, you'da found the specs over there at the site.
    Challenge accepted.
No wonder they made the specs difficult to find:
    \- 16-bit only
    \- 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz only
    \- USB 1.0 only
\- Based on an economy single-chip USB-DAC designed late last century
by Burr-Brown (just before B.B. was gobbled-up by Texas Instruments).
    http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/pcm2702.pdf
There's NO WAY that an ancient 16-bit @ 48kHz DAC can compete with
a modern 24-bit @ 96 kHz DAC (readily available at half the price).
The Burr-Brown PCM 2702 was an "econo-DAC" back in 2000 -- and it
hasn't gotten any better with age.
The OP wants and needs only 2-channel playback; since he has a decent
PAIR of powered speakers, the digital out would serve him better.
True enough. However, the OP would be insane to pay $190 for a
"vintage" 16-bit DAC. Search for "USB audio" on Newegg.com or
Amazon.com and you'll find perfectly good 16-bit DACs starting
at $25 or less -- and superior quality 24-bit for under $100.

  • Connecting stereo speakers to an iMac

I am thinking about making the final jump and just trashing my stereo and running all my music through my iMac. Three questions:
1.) Is the output of an iMac going to be high enough quality to sound good through my stereo speakers?
2.) Is this done by simply connecting a set of stereo speakers to my iMac through the headphone jack?
3.) My current stereo is hooked up to three sets of speakers (one set in each of three rooms) and I'm wondering if I can split the output signal from my single headphone jack so that the music comes out of all three speakers.
4.) I'm incredulous that my little iMac will be able to produce quality sound equal to my stereo system. Am I wrong? (My wife will only allow this change if I guarantee that she won't even notice a difference.)
    Thanks in advance!
    Peter Booth

    Hi Peter,
    1. the output is good enough to run external speakers through (you'd need to have the hearing of a bat to notice the difference. Only the very highest and ver, very lowest of frequencies are lost.)
    2. yes the headphone jack will work (if you iMac has an 'output' jack though, use it instead.)
    3. Yes, you will lose ouput accordingly (is the stereo designed to run two speakers is running six, all speakers will recieve only 1/3 signal, unless you install extra capacitors in your amps to compensate for loss of output.
    4. refer to answer 1
    Kind Regards,

  • Speakers for auditorium sound?

I'm doing a series of iPhoto slide show presentations using a projector. Do I need to get a good set of external speakers? The projector is an InFocus X3, and I think it has some sort of built-in sound, but I was just wondering if anyone knew the best way to go, or even IF a pair of external speakers plugged into the headphone jack would be good enough sound for auditorium use (about 400 people in a room with rather bad acoustics).
Anybody had any experience blasting music through an iMac (with external speakers) to a big party or something? What's a good set to get?
    Thanks for your help,
    Julie

cool... more details on the room.
Presuming you ARE working from a stage AND there are mic jacks on the stage:
    Audio:
I did this recently for a Macintosh User Group meeting... Using a small 4-8 channel mixer (if one is available - if not, keep reading), connect the iMac to the the small mixer previously described. Connect the "Main Out" via XLR cable to the mic jack on stage. iMac audio level at 1/2... small mixer audio level at about 1/3 and gain (if it has a separate knob) at about 1/2... and let the main board operator take care of everything else. Since you are feeding into only one mic jack on the stage, this set up is mono only. Stereo capabilities will also depend on the main board and amp set up, so I won't go there). If you need to adjust sound and the main board is not accessible, up the level and gain on the small mixer first - if you need more, LAST recourse is to increase the iMac's audio level - when is starts to sound scratchy, back off until that goes away.
Guitar Center has several small mixes <http://guitarcenter.com/products/dispDeals.cfm?sel=7>... Behringer is another one they carry in their sotres - but not advertised on the web site. They are all around $150 to $300. If you'll never use it again, it may not be worth it, but the site manager might be interested. I generally use them for a drum-set (which can use 5 mics or more - if synth drums are used, too) - or this sort of "can't get to the board, so this 'pre-board' will have to make due". At the Mac User Group meetings, the main sound board is locked up in a back room, but always-on so the school principal needs only plug in a mic and start talking.
If a small mixer is not available, then feeding the left and right audio from your computer into a single on-stage mic input jack is the way to go. In the previous post, one of the shopping items was a 1/8" male head-phone to left-audio/right-audio "tail". Instead of that, get a 1/8" male stereo headphone to mono RCA female. This connects from the iMac headphone jack to the male RCA audio cable on one end. The other end connects to a female RCA-1/4 in male... which connects to a 1/4" female-XLR male... which plugs into the stage female XLR mic input.
If there are no mic jacks on the stage and the site manager is using a snake, then just treat the XLR connectors on the stage-end of the snake like you would if you were plugging into the board itself. The site manager should be able to assist with this.
    Video:
Presuming you already have the Apple video converter tail for your iMac, you can get a VGA video cable as long as you want... Fry's Electronics (Outpost.com online) has LONG ones... http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4473316?site=sr:SEARCH:MAINRSLTPG There are likely other sources, but Fry's is nearby for me. If this link does not work, got to Outpost.com and search for "vga cable".
Measuring the spot from where you will be speaking - presuming the same place the iMac is - to where the projector will be and add at least 10 feet... remember, the cable on the floor needs to get up to the iMac (on a podium) and up to the projector (on a table?). We live in a 3-dimensional world...
    Other logistics...
Don't forget duct-tape... the cables need to be taped down to the floor so people don't trip. The site manager might take care of this, but one can always use duct tape elsewhere, so just be sure to bring a big roll. Heck, leave it with the site manager if that person does take care of it... I guess that's up to you.
If at all possbile, make arrangements with the site manager and set up everything to be sure it all works - and you are comfortable with the sound-levels, video cable and all the other hook-ups. Presuming no one else is around, doing a short test with your computer and everything plugged in a couple of days before the FIRST time will ensure you have the right cables, adapters, and even sound levels... so that you have time to recover and get stuff just in case... AND be sure to mark all your cables and adapters and gear so everyone knows who owns what. White tape with your name (use a Sharpie) is easiest (though removeable - so pros and cons to that).
... and if you are speaking - hence, mic'd up - a handheld mic (better yet, a wireless lavalier) should be used so you don't have to scream at your audience - and you want to be comfortable with that, too. If handheld, is there a mic stand? Is it connected to the podium? Will that get in the way of the iMac monitor? A stick or boom mic stand (not part of the podium) might be in order - the site manager should be able to address this since you indicated there are mics... If you use a small table next to the podium for thee iMac, a lavalier (clip-on mic) would be easiest since it will leave both your hands free to use the computer while you are speaking. If a lav is not available, a couple of mics (one at the podium and one at the iMac on the table) might be in order. A wireless hand-held mic will also be useful if available (hold mic in one hand while using mouse with other) which would make the multiple wired mics unnecessary.
By the way, what's the show about?

  • Connecting USB Speakers to 2013 iMac without Airplay?

Have new 27" iMac (Intel i5 May 2013 build) and find no way to hook up external USB speakers.  System's preferences offers no external opiton beyond Airplay which I hope to avoid.  I don't know the distinction between USB 2 and USB 3, but wonder if my two year old speakers have an older version of USB connection and whether it will work.  Thanks for any help with this newbie question.

Thanks, BD.  I've been reading about target disk mode which sounds like it might be an appropriate solution for getting my photos and music to the new iMac.  If I understand it, it sounds like I would connect the old MBP to the new iMac with a Firewire 800 cable (with Thunderbolt adapter for the iMac).  The iMac would be running while the old MBP would be started up in Target Mode -- either by holding the T key while booting, or by restarting after selecting the Systems Disk in System Preferences>Mac HD>Restart.  The target MBP should come up in Target Mode and mount in the Finder on the iMac.  This should allow copying the iTunes Files from the MBP to iTunes on the iMac.  Similarly I've read this would enable me also to copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder of the MBP to the Pictures Folder of the iMac.  I'm nervous about whether copying is a simple drag-and-drop, or perhaps a multistage process that requires knowing where precisely to place the new files.  The process on the iTunes seems critical since I'm moving 125 GB.  Still, the concept seems like it might be relatively straight forward as long as I don't get confused about which computer is which, and whether I am dealing with the files themselves or the whole Library folder.  In the case of iPhoto, I believe I'm copying the whole Library from Pictures on MBP to Pictures on iMac.  On the iTunes, I'm not sure if I'm copying the files into the iMac iTunes, or simply copying the Library from MBP Music to iMac Music.  If you have any insight on Target Mode, it might help me decide whether that's the way to go.  Thanks for your replies.  It's nice to know someone out there actually understands this stuff.  Best, Dean

I have been editing with Final Cut for many years, on many different Macs.  Currently using Final Cut Express v4 on a 2.66GHZ Core2Duo MacBookPro with 8GB RAM.  Ditto on my 3.06GHZ Core2Duo iMac with 8GB RAM.  It runs really well on both computers.  An i5 based Mac will do even better.
The amount of RAM definitely makes a difference if you are using things like Photoshop, Aperture, Lightroom, iMovie, Final Cut and similar apps.  They will run in 4GB RAM but they run a lot better with 8GB RAM or more.  If I were configuring a new Mac to run these kinds of programs, 8GB RAM would be my suggested minimum.

My experience with steaming with Apple products is done from iTunes, my music and video files from iTunes on my iMac or video from Apple Store. I sync photos and music from iTunes with iPhone, iPod Touch and AppleTV.
I have a 2TB external disk that has my iTunes library on it. All my music, TV and movies. It is hosted on my iMac
I do not know if mkv video can be played on the iPad, maybe there is an app that can do it. • How do I connect Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speakers with new iMac?

Please help a PC to mac converter. I did a search related to this topic and I am still confused. The articles that were related were archived and so I couldn't post a reply. With that said I need help. I purchased Logitech 5.1 speaker system to hookup with intel-based iMac 24". The speakers came with 3 color-coded RCA cables. This is the same setup as on my Dell, but the Dell had the corresponding color coded inputs, the iMac does not.
My question is how do I get 5.1 setup with iMac, and can this computer support a 5.1 system? I've read on here that people are using optical cables, but the iMac does not have an optical input either.
I appreciate any advise and any hyperlinks to cables or other accessories I need to buy would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

When the Toslink to mini-jack digital cable arrives you would set up the 5.1 audio to the system through Audio MIDI Setup; Apps>Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup.
    From the Audio MIDI Setup Help menu;
    Configuring speakers for multichannel output
If you have a multichannel audio output system, you can select the speaker used to play each channel.
You must be using an audio output system that provides more than two channels of audio output.
Before you start, be sure you have connected the audio devices to your computer, turned them on, if necessary, and installed any software required by the manufacturer.
    1. Open Audio MIDI Setup and click Audio Devices.
    2. Choose the audio output device from the Properties For pop-up menu and click Configure Speakers.
    3. If you are using an interleaved device with more than one audio stream, you can choose the audio streams you want to use with your speaker configuration.
    4. If the stream you select provides enough channels for the speakers you are configuring, you cannot select additional streams.
    5. Choose the type of output you want to set up from the pop-up menu.
    6. For each speaker in the configuration, choose a channel from the pop-up menu below the speaker.
    7. To test the configuration and speaker, click the speaker.
    8. When you're ready, click OK.
If the speaker doesn't make any sound, make sure it is connected to your audio device correctly and the audio output is not muted.
