Speakers have quit working no sound and it says they are working fine

Hi,
Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

I have just rented two movies and after download they are not visible anywhere in iTunes for me to watch.

I have just rented two movies and after download they are not visible anywhere for me to view. Usually in the iTunes menu there is an option call 'rentals' where rented movies sit until they expire, this is no longer visible. The movie files are listed in the finder under music/movies.... With the rest of my iTunes data, but they will not play in iTunes from there and I can't add them to my library for watching.
The only thing I am currently doing differently is that I have just subscribed to iTunes Match; would this affect my rentals?

Under your Library list, you should see "Movies". Click on that, and you will see a screen with several tabs at the top - Rentals, Unwatched, Movies, Genres, Home Videos, etc.
As Hackintosh indicated above, click on the Rentals tab, and your movies will be displayed there. Doulbe click on one to start playing it.
If you do not have your sidebar showing, go up to View at the top, and click on Show Sidebar. Then you will see your Library lists on the sidebar, which will include Movies.

Hi, Maybe 10 or 20 years ago someone might have called me "PC Expert" but at 81 with all the age related problems that brings, I am very lucky if I can figure out how to turn the beast on, so I'm hoping maybe some one of you young tigers can tell me what to do to get my onboard speakers to working again. (Hint: Probably a mistake I made sometime within the past year or so).

I am not exactly a young tiger, as you can see by my handle, but I will do my best to help you solve your problem.
From the way you posted, it appears that your speakers were working and simply quit. Did you install / upgrade any components or updates to the software just prior to the sound stopping? If so, what are they?
You should go to the Control Panel / Sound to assure that you sound device is set to Default. This is the most common cause of the loss of sound. The settings appear to change for no reason. I have seen this especially with Win 8.0 / 8.1.

Open the Mac App Store and try purchasing Mountain Lion 10.8. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU with at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

Username and Password are correct and Thunderbird says they are incorrect. I can access mail through web client.

I have made sure email credentials are correct on the Mail Server. I can access mail through a web client using the email credentials I am inputting however Thunderbird will not let me configure the account saying the username and password might be incorrect.

Is this a Gmail account?
