Speakers on MBP C2D Are basically mute with three bars left to go.

I just got a new MBP C2D and when I turn the volume down, it is extremely quiet at half level, and with three notches to go, it is silent. My friends does the same thing. Is this normal, or should this be fixed?

  • Describe WORKING mbp c2d airport internet connection with stable signal

As I read many reports about problems in different configurations and after 2 weeks was not able to find a working solution for myself yet, may I ask users who do have a working and stable airport internet configuration to describe it in this thread? Only WORKING configurations please.
    MBP C2D 2.33 GHz, PB G4 1.25 GHz titanium; AEBS(5.7), AE(6.3), WPA2-personal   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   dell m70 pentium M, dell C2D, windows xp pro

I replaced my 4 years old airport extreme base station (AEBS, newest firmware v5.7) with the netgear WPN824 router and my mbp c2d wireless internet access problems are resolved. 802.11g only, WPA2-PSK. I see a steady strong signal on my mbp c2d (11-15 bars) and download speeds in the range 10-15Mbit/s. Also my older pb G4 and dell c2d have a quick steady wireless connection to the WPN824.
With AEBS my mbp c2d signal varied between 0-15 bars (occasionally dropped connection) and the download speeds on the mbp c2d were in the range 3-14 Mbit/s, but on average 50% slower than with the WPN824.

  • MBP C2D - Fans freakin' out with rosetta apps

    Hi,
got this computer the third day and have to report that fan behaviour in Rosetta Apps really is weird. I noticed that if I have a moderate amount of processing in those apps (e.g. letting Bookends format a few hundred citations in word, installing games without universal support and so on), let them hit the ceiling (about 6000 rounds, which is a very scary noise), although the temperature is around 50 degrees celsius and they need some minutes to go back.
I was near to return the purchased mac book pro 2.16 until i did a heavy load test in native apps, e.g. torturing logic pro with full load over minutes (which is not that easy . The fans kick in at 75 degrees and find their level at about 4500 rpm, which hearable, but still bearable. And they immediately turn down afterwards.
So this seems to be an issue with rosetta ....any ideas??

Mine does the same. I figure Apple has changed the firmware in order to run fans more. thus keeping cooler. I figure as long as it's not a hardware problem, and that they could issue another firmware update if people complain enough, that it doesn't bother me.

  • Does anyone know how much an early termination fee would be on a basic plan with a year left on the contract?

I have a year left on my basic phone contract but we have been discussing breaking up our family plan and going elsewhere.

Oh no! Your posting hurt my feelings Amyliz67! Why do you want to leave our happy wireless family? There are options on breaking up the family plan and avoiding any termination fees. For example, you have the option to transfer your mobile number in your name. This way you can continue to enjoy great service from us and the original account does not have to incur a termination fee. If interested then please reply so we can assist.  ArnettH_VZW Follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport  If my response answered your question please click the "Correct Answer" button under my response. • Slow boot on mbp running 10.6.4 with progress bar

    Hi
My Macbook pro running 10.6.4 has recently become slow on boot up.
When i do a clean boot or restart i see a progress bar on the apple logo which now seems to take a minute or so to load.
    I've never seen this before.
I've tried things such as PRAM reset, cache clears, etc
disk utility isn't showing any hard drive errors
    any suggestions?
    Ian

    Hi I,
You can check for any boot arguments in your /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
If you have any Kernel Flags your Mac will observe it when booting, mine has no Kernel Flags.
You can read about it by using de command line "man com.apple.Boot.plist" in your /Applications/Utilities/Terminal application. After reading hit Q key to quit the manual displaying and use "exit" before quitting Terminal.
I made a quick search and found this 54 replies topic here, it seams to be an update issue, check it out, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2141922&tstart=1
    Good luck.

  • MBP replaced with MBP C2D?

I have a MBP which I purchased back in Feb. Since then I've had to get it replaced twice for different reasons. I know that now Apple is doing something about the "whine" on the MBP. If I take it in to my local Apple store do you think that they would
    1) replace it with a MBP C2D
    2) replace it with a refurbished MBP
    3) send it in for repairs
Any of those situations would be fine, but I was wondering if someone had a similar situation and what the outcome was.
    Thanks
    Andy

I had the same "whine" issue, and if they have not addressed it yet, they will take it and send it in to have the Main Logic Board replaced. That should cure the whine. If it does not cure it, they may try to send it back again for repairs, and if it gets to be "unfixable" they will replace it with a C2D since they no longer make the CD.

  • WinXp on External USB HD with MBP C2D and rEfit

I'll try to make this short... I've been in the process of installing WinXP onto an external USB drive to be used on my MBP C2D without installing ANYTHING on my OSX internal drive or partitioning. I've come a long way with tools from some very slick, resourceful people on the net and my own personal obsession with this.
This is where I am right now:
    - I've made a USB installable WinXP disk with this guide (http://www.ngine.de/index.jsp?pageid=4176)
    - I did install Boot Camp 1.1.2 to burn my driver disk, thats all.
    - I've boot to the XP disc then been able to begin the first phase of installation of XP, but when I reboot I am unable to boot to the windows drive to continue installation. Hitting Option -- or Cmd-Option-Shift-Delete doesn't work, also going into the OSX's Startup Disk option in System prefs. and selected the Windows drive doesn't work, it just sits there on the reboot.
    - So I came across rEFIt- great tool (http://refit.sourceforge.net/), I decided to install it to a spare USB thumb drive (a suggestion from the site). rEFIt comes up, I select the windows USB drive, the gray windows logo appears then... I get a Booting Legacy OS error concerning rEFIt not fiding the USB Device Path.
I've read people with other models have gotten this to work and other people with this model have reported similar problems. What I have gathered is that this could simply be an issue that rEFIt (despite being an awesome tool) is not up to date enough to work with the MBP C2D firmware, that is why we are having this problem with it not initializing the USB for boot up. I found a thread on another forum where someone was having issues with the MacPro firmware and rEFIt, the creator of had to come out with what is now version 0.8 to address the issue.
Wasn't sure if anyone had any other suggestions.... any help would greatly appreciated, like many, I've lost lots of sleep over this!
    THANKS!
    MacBook Pro C2D 2.33-PowerMac Dual 2.0 G5-PowerMac Dual 1.42 G4-Mac mini 1.42 G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Funny how I had exact same problem (Seagate 300Gb drive, works great with PB G4 1.67, worked fine with 1st Gen MBP 2.0Ghz, new c2d MBP 2.16 does something strange to this drive. After plugging the drive into my MBP, it will not work in any other computer until I power it down.) - I am sure you get errors in system log after plugging in the HDD (just open Terminal.app and type sudo dmesg to verify)
I called AppleCare, they had me take it to store to confirm the problem. Next Apple initiated return. Now I am sitting without a laptop since Nov 8 and replacement will come on Nov 17th at the worst and 15th at the best.
I would suggest you call Applecare and have them initiate a return. The USB controller has a problem. Let AppleCare know of the details of your problem.
Forgot to add - Since it also is a OS issue (I had kernel panic after plugging/unplugging the external USB drive) I filed a bug report with Apple.
You can also file a bug report with Apple - http://bugreport.apple.com) and remember to provide drive model, serial number and model number, and dmesg output with errors in the report

  • Remote Speakers are not compatible with this version of iTunes

My problem is simple to describe but seemingly impossible to fix.
When I try to play music from my MacBook to my Airport Express I get this error "Remote speakers x are not compatible with this version of iTunes." I have been using this computer and AX in the past without problem but I can't remember exactly when this issue started so I'm not sure if it coincided with an update to either iTunes or AX.
I am running up-to-date iTunes and AX firmware (8.0.2 iTunes, 7.3.2 AX), have restarted both machines multiple times, and reinstalled iTunes and reuploaded AX firmware. Here's the kicker: my roommate's MacBook running iTunes 8.0.2 works with the speakers perfectly.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes! Turning back on ipv6 and setting it to "auto" worked for me. Really strange - trying to get this to work for months (on and off) - almost tossed it - thank you very much!

Not having the problem, don't personally know anyone who is.

  • Speakers won't mute with Headpho

This is for an Audigy 4-pro. When the headphones are plugged in, the speakers still function. I've turned on the option to mute the speakers when the headphones are plugged in. That doesn't seem to make any difference. Am I doing something wrong? Should I reinstall my drivers? Or is there another tweak I need to make?
    Thanks.
    Sam

I think I would rather just turn off my speakers manually every time I plugged in my headphones. This was not at all a constructi've response.

    BDAqua,
    Thanks for the response.
Apple has used the term "Digital Audio" to identify this machine.  System Profiler has the following information:
    Machine Name:          Power Mac G4
      Machine Model:          PowerMac3,5
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (2.1)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          256 KB
      Memory:          768 MB
      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.3.3f2
      Serial Number:          XBxxxxxMK9
      Sales Order Number:
Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

  • My Bose Companion 5 speakers are not getting detected in mac pro. They are working fine with other machines (including mac).

My bose companion 5 speakers are not getting detected on Mac Pro. They are working fine with other machines (including friend's mac)

Same Issue here. I had a similar issue with my Bose USB speakers when I upgraded to Maverick. I've had the speakers since 2010 and had no issue with my 2006 Mac Pro or my iMac till the Maverick upgrade, contacted both Apple and Bose with no luck but an Apple update fixed the issue.
I wonder if other USB speakers have an issue or is it just BOSE USB speakers. But my Companions did work fine with my Mac Pro and iMac 27 till the Yosemite update with an initial issue with the Maverick upgrade it was definitely an Apple issue not Bose. I have both Boise Airplay and Blue tooth speakers that seem OK it is only the USB Companions that don't work.
Will look forward to a solution.
    Thanks,
    Rich

  • Are MBP C2D currently back-ordered?

    Hi,
I have just put my name on a waiting list at an Apple Boutique here in Canada as I am told the MBP is back-ordered. Of course, they do not know when they will be coming in.
Is it faster to get this machine off the Apple website? It's just with the delivery methods, if you are not home after a few tries (I work during the day), it get shipped to a warehouse in the middle of nowhere and I do not have a car to go and pick it up.
I am getting an educational discounted price on the MBP as I am a student, but I was told this was not a problem as all MBP's are back-ordered here in Montreal.
Any suggestions or advice? I need this by the end of November...or do I just have to wait
    Thanks

    Hey Norm,
Thanks for the advice, but I sold my car and cannot make it Toronto at this time
I will find a friend who can receive my shipment for me...I really want my MBP more than ever now. I will order it this weekend and pay for express shipping. I cannot wait to have it in my hands...

    Hi Doomtrooper,
When you updated your iPhone 4S and iPad3 to iOS6, what exactly do you mean when you can't access the iTunes store? Have you checked your connection to the network?
Please be a little more specific
