I would love to purchase some good quality portable speakers that I can use with my laptop AND my iPhone. Any suggestions?

Speakers/charging dock combo for iPod Nano?

I have a 3rd party home speaker dock, which works as a speaker, but didn't realize that the new Nanos don't let 3rd party stuff work as chargers. When the Nano is connected it says "charging is not supported with this accessory".
What are my options in terms of docks that would both charge the Nano, and work as a good set of speakers (with good volume)?

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of accessories not made by Apple that claim some level of iPod compatibility. It is impossible for Apple to supply comprehensive data about which ones work with which (if any) iPods. Note: there is a lot of confusion about the "Made for iPod" logo. To display it, a manufacturer must pay Apple a fee & sign a non-disclosure agreement to get access to the technical details that ensure compatibility with current iPods & timely notifications of changes in the specifications that might affect compatibility with future models. Apparently, notifications about the changes to the charging specs went out to participants quite some time ago, perhaps as early as 2005, but very few accessory makers have done anything about it until now. Of course, non-participants have always reverse-engineered their products for compatibility without Apple's help, so it is probable that they knew nothing until the new iPod models were on retailers' shelves.
Complicating things even more, some manufacturers market both newer & older versions of some products under the same model name, or just slightly change the model name (like with a "II" suffix).
The bottom line is "newer is better" but is in itself no guarantee that the accessory will charge the Nano 4G.

Look the dock connector on your iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corred contacts, foreign material and cracked/broken plastic.
Try:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears..
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod

Hear ring through speakers in docking station?

Hi All. Love my iphone but don't like to carry it with me in the house. I miss calls because the phone's in another room and I don't hear the ring. If the phone's in a docking station with speakers, is it just the ipod functionality that gets piped through the speakers or the phone's ringer too? Can you put the phone on 'speaker phone' and send and receive calls while its in the docking station?
Is there another way to boost the volume of the ringer?

If you dock the phone it will ring both through the iPhone's speakers AND through the dock (at least my Sony alarm radio/dock works like that).

Can I play through phone speakers when dock connected? I bought a new case to mount my phone to my bike's handlebars. To allow use of other attachments, the case has an internal dock connector. I want to play music through the speakers while riding (rather than headphones), however, due to the cases internal dock connector, it seems I cannot do this. Any suggestions?

I would try in oreder:
- Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

We have two Ipod Touches in the Home and two Ipads. Right now one of the Ipads has a separate user indentity. Can both Ipods be used to use the same library with different user ids's and different passwords.

But recently both os us have downloaded the Ibooks segment to our Ipads and now the only way to sync the second Ipad for Ibooks is to use the same used id and password. This is to avoid piracy. What could happen is, people could buy music, and give it away for free online. Usually it is then you buy a complete album off iTunes that it will only be available on one device. It is tied to that account, and the device must be registered to that account to listen to it.

Unfortunately, in your case, there isn't really a way to separate them as far as I can think.
You could try restoring from a backup, and choosing an older backup perhaps

By "game center account", do you mean Apple ID?
If so, you can change it.
1. Tap settings and navigate to iTunes and App Stores
2. Tap "Apple ID" and then tap "Sign Out"
3. Log in with a different ID.

I've an old brick 60GB iPod for myself and I've just bought a new nano for my wife. We both like the same music and am frightened of connecting the new nano to the PC in case it wipes the music from iTunes. Any advice on how I can get the same music onto both iPods please? Stephen

Don't worry. it's not going to clear your itunes music out of the application. Itunes doesn't even save the music in the application. Check your My Music folder. it's ALL in there. So basically. connect your wife's ipod. it wont erase you're library off your H/D.

Go to Settings>Mail>Gmail>>Advanced. Do you have an an item for Deleted Messages Remove? What options are available.?
Also in Settings>Mail>Gmail does the Host Name for incoming server have a POP in it?
