Special characteristics in Master data

Hi All,
I tried to load the data to ODS object, The data is loaded to ODS object, But when i try to activate the data at ODS level, I am running in to error that due to special characteristics in for info object the activation is not possible.
I tried all methods (like Running through RSKC and setting up all_capitals and special characters as well).
But no luck, Is there any easiest way other than deleting the data manually record by record at PSA level.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Invalid Characteristics in Master data

Hello All,
I have been getting invalid characteristcs errors for most of the master data's and therefore i have always been using RSKC for most of times, but whenever new master data records get updated, again i get Invalid chars error in the DTP.
My Client is Norwegian and they have gt a lot of characters/symbols on each Alpha + Numeric Keys.
I have thght of two options to solve this invalid chars error, once for all...!!!
1) Install the Norways language in BI itself
2) Write a routine in Transformations, (both in Attr and Text transformation mappings).
Can any help/suggest what shud be done in this regards. Or is their anything i shud to get the norwegian character .map

I am not sure whether you trie ALL_CAPITAL in RSKC or ALL_CAPITAL_PLUS_HEX.
These should cover all the languages and there special symbols...no matter from what key board is used.
There are some issues related to Turkish language I guess but still it should work for the nordic countries.
keep the alphabets in capitals and this settings should work or you can cjheck the option lowercase letters in the infoobject genral tab to keep the small case flowing into BW as well.
This you should do after you have installed norway language itself...I think you are getting this error because of the langugae not installed.
I am not sure whya norway based client has not installed norway language in BI system??
Did you checked if the language is installed or not??

Insert master data from SEM to BW

Hi There,
I wonder if anyone know, how in a standard way if it is possibile to insert master data from SEM to BW.
I am referring in particular to the masterdata of the 0VENDOR. In fact the customer want to input the 0VENDOR Master data directly from SEM to BW.

If you are talking about SEM-BCS in particular there is a special topic about Master Data Syncronization.
Take a look in service.sap.com/sem under Media Library: there you find two docs about (1 ppt and a doc).

Unable to make entries for objects with no master data in IP

Hi All,
In BPS, when created a layout, which contains characteristics, in whose properties 'Master Data' is not checked, we could enter the new values for them directly in the layout.
In IP, we could not do the same with the 'New Lines" option set on Analysis Item in the WAD for the characteristics whose master data property is not checked.
We have a layout, where, some characteristics are having master data checked, and some other characteristics where master data is not checked.
With the 'New Lines' option set on Analysis Item in the WAD for the characteristics whose master data property is not checked, when data entered, the error message is appearing saying that the data is not valid.
This is so quite simple in BPS. I think, I might be missing something in IP on how to achieve this.

In IP it's integerated that if you will not maintain master data you may not be able to plan for new value of characteristic.It's the normal behavior of system.

Huge number of Master data errors

Hi All,
I have a situation. Actaully in our project data records with special characters for master data (0CUSTOMER here) are being edited every day and manually loaded. (note: no provision of RSKC). what happened a day back is unknowingly someone triggered a full load and data with error records from Day 1 is now there till the PSA along with the latest data. now untill and unless the data is corrected and reloaded new data won't get updated. So can anybody please suggest me the quickest way of getting out of this mess. I mean to remove the old data which is already there and get the latest data only from the PSA. Otherwise i need to manually correct around 7000 records!
Please help. Do tell me if you need more clarifications.

If it's possible speak to business poeple if they want that invalid characters.If they say yes then allow into BW on RSKC.
Just delete reuest and goto PSA and update datatarget immediatly.

i have an doubt ,for master data v have any special cockpit is there as LO,
if som of the master data supporting delta means,
how the delata mechanism work for that data souces?
how the master data arrives from table to PSA?
take for example how the master data comes from 0mat_attr data souces to PSA?
and y v required the LSMW for import the master data to table?

The ans to ur questions are below.
We do not have special cockpit for master data load such as LO Cockpit. We do not have the delta management concept, as in the case of LO extractors. In most cases, master data load is always taken as FULL Load.
However, we can go for a pseudo delta in many cases when the vol becomes huge.(Intervals can be used for an year in such cases) For e.g. master data load for Notification, Sales Order etc. For IOBJ 0MATERIAL as well, we use a FULL load.
LSMW is for migration of master data from legacy systems. If the source is R/3 only, then u will nt use LSMW. It may be required, if you need to get some historical data from a legacy system to BW and need to store in the same IOBJ.

Master data datasource

Hi,
i have an ifocube which contains some characteristics which have master data. if it contains attribute which again has characteristics having master data , do i need to activate the master data datasource of attribute characteristics along with characteristics of the cube or only the characteristics of the cube, which shall take care of its attribute master data??

to make it more clear i have a cube Annual Values 0FIAA_C01 which has characteristics
Asset Sub-number 0ASSET
Main Asset Number 0ASSET_MAIN
Company code 0COMP_CODE
Depreciation area real or derived 0DEPRAREA
Depreciation Area Real or Derived 0ASSET_AFAB
these characteristics have master data with attribute for eg Asset Sub-number 0ASSET having attibute 0COSTCENTER which itself has master data. and othe such characteristics also
so now to load this infocube i will have to load masterdata datasource only for initial 5 characteristics only or for the attribute 0COSTCENTER
any suggestion??

APO BW master data vs shipment history

hello all,
i would like to clarify, we are creating a prototype in DP and trying lo bring master data and shipment history, does the flat file has masterdata and shipment hisotry in one file or does it have to have diffrent files for each master data and shpment history, cause i was told that masterdata and shipment history should have 2 diffrent cubes for each.

Master dtaa does not reside in cun=bes but ik the individual infoobjects. You have to load the master data for Infoobjects separately, either from a file or from the source system. If you are loading from a file you might need as many files as there are characteristics. Master data load will probably have descriptions for materials, locations, custimers, territories etc.
Shipment history gets loaded from a flat file.
Please work with your BI team and they should be able to help you out.

Loading master data via process chain

hi experts,
I have to load data in infoObject via process chain, my infopackage has update mode as full update. Now my question is do I have to delete the previously added data from infoObject and then run this full update infopackage in process chain or system will only fetch the newly added records from source.

You can not delete the data from master data once the transcational data is posted against the master data value. Attribute value can be deleted, but you can not delete the value of the main characteristics from master data table.
Moreover, you dont need to delete the data when loading master data. Master data always overwritten with the new reocrds.
As described, first load the full load and then on daily basis you can load the delta.
DO NOT FOGET TO SCHEDULE ATTRIBUTE CHANGE RUN to activate the newly loaded data into master data.
Make sure that your master data is not enhanced, otherwise any change in the enhanced field will not generate delta record. If this is the case, then load in full mode everyday.

Master data loading special character issue in bw

while extracting Material master data from r/3 system due to special characters load is getting failed even after enabling in RSKC.
is there any length restriction in RSKC to enable special characters like 20 or 30 only.
If i specify the "ALL_CAPITAL " in RSKC what exactly it will do .

Hi,
No small letters are permitted for characteristic values (in the InfoObject maintenance). It depends, however, on the language being used as to whether a character is capitalized.
It is guaranteed that the characters ' !"%&''()*+,-./:;<=>?_0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ' are capitalized in all languages. Thus these characters are permitted for characteristic values.
Expl:
The bit combination, that stands for an 'Ö' in German, displays a small 'sch' in the Russian character set. In this way, a German 'Ö' is not capitalized in Russian.
In the German character set, the bit combination shows a "pictured reflected P" for the Russian capitals "SCH". The conversion of small letters into capitals is, therefore, language-dependent.
If you have a system, that delivers you permitted characters other than ' !"%&''()*+,-./:;<=>?_0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ', you can enter these characters here. The system the checks whether these characters are capitalized in all of the installed languages in your system . If this is the case, then these characters are also accepted in characteristic values.
You should only add additional characters to the permitted characters, if you have already installed all the languages that you wish to use later. All languages that you install subsequently are not checked.
It is possible that the validity of these additional characters is then not guaranteed, and the selectability of the entire master data is, therefore, put at risk.

Master Data Process chains failing due to special charecters?

hi experts,
we have done all the master data(FI,SD,LO,QM,PM,MM,PP,PS) and created process chains and transported into production system.
when we run the process chains we are facing lot of issues regarding special charecters.
for example. 0MAT_VEND_ATTR Data source.
MATERIAL VENDOR (field - IDNLF).
'UDGÅET
&''UDGÅR
&''UDGÅET
&''36/5599/LED./FÆLLES
&''SØTRANSPORT &
those are the special charecters are coming when i try to execute through RSKC the above Material Vendors, its giving different special chars for different MATERIAL VENDORS like below.

like that there are about 15 master data chains are failing.
due to that reason the below transcation chars are not executing.
please suggest me is there any routine or is there any procedure to take care of unpredicted special charecters loading successfully into BW.

I don't think its a global setting problem.
Permit the char in RSKC...
Check with the functional team why they are getting Special char values in the loads. ask them to rectify the special char so that you can extract the same to BW side.

How to connect the master data extractors to 2 different characteristics

Hi All,
We have some characteristic attributes like 0PLANT and 0COMP_CODE in our BI 7.0 System already connected to 0PLANT_ATTR and 0COMP_CODE_ATTR extractors from R/3.
Now we have implemented another set of characteristics GPLANT and GCOMP_CODE for a different application. We want to connect 0PLANT_ATTR and 0COMP_CODE_ATTR to these new characteristics GPLANT and GCOMP_CODE. But I cannot connect it if I try to set up a transform for
GCOMP_CODE and specify the data source to be 0COMP_CODE_ATTR it does not seem to take it rather it takes me to a screen to activate 0COMP_CODE_TEXT_ATTR it is strange I do not understand what it is trying to do.
Appreciate your help on this.

Hi Karen,
While creating gplant take reference as 0plant. If you take reference it will copy technical properties & master data also.

Dear Experts,
Please explain me in Laymans Language as i am new to BI (but am an ABAP consultant).
In Info Object Characteristics, Master data Tab there is infosource with direct update with an application Component.
1. Now my doubt is, when i specify the Application Component, this infosource would appear under the application component in Modeling->Infosources.
Then on this infosource i would right click and create the info pakage and then data transfer process.
is it correct?
2. Suppose for this characteristic if i dont specify the infosource with direct update then it wont appear in the infosource, so how can i load data in this case?

Hi,
Using an InfoSource with direct updating, master data (characteristics with attributes, texts, or hierarchies) of an InfoObject can be updated directly (without update rules, only using transfer rules) into the master data table. To do this you must assign it an application component. The system displays the characteristic in the InfoSource tree in the Data Warehousing Workbench. You can assign DataSources and source systems to the characteristic from there. You can then also load master data, texts, and hierarchies for the characteristic.
You cannot use an InfoObject as an InfoSource with direct updating if:
i. The characteristic you want to modify is characteristic 0SOURSYSTEM (source system ID).
ii. The characteristic has neither master data nor texts nor hierarchies. It is therefore impossible to load data for the characteristic.
iii. The characteristic that you want to modify turns out not to be a characteristic, but a unit or a key figure.
To generate an export DataSource for a characteristic, the characteristic must also be an InfoSource with direct updating.

The characteristic will be available in info source tree, you can assign a datasource->assignsource system->create package->load data.

For a characteristic If you dont specify 'InfoSources with Direct Updating' then it wont appear in infosource tree.

Transactional Data vs. Master Data

I need to implement a BW but I have the following question;
Imagine I have Master Data like:
Material:
Materialname
Materialgroup
Time:
Month
Year
Costumer
Name
Town
Region
On the other hand I have transactional data:
Sales
Amount
I wonder how do I get td and md data connected? I guess I have my master data in characteristics and the transactional data in an dso.
But when combining them into an InfoCube how does the info cube get the information how sales is connected to material?
Or do I fill up my DSO with the Material number also?
I wonder how would the upload files look like for master data and then for transactional data? I don't have any example here..

when the master data has been delivered time dependend
I create an upload for master data und i deliver a time stamp from and to...
uploading transactional data i have to deliver also the time from and to in the upload file, right?
at least i have historical truth with my master date? i could load td data for a special time period and it is automatically correct for the master data for that time period? or is there somthing wrong in that concept?
