Special characters in phone number

Hi,
My company decided that all private calls should be made with the prefix *140# in the phone number, allowing seperation in the bill.
First I added this prefix to the phone numbers of all my private contacts in the Address Book, but when i performed a sync with my sony ericsson k750 i noticed that the * and # didn't go into the phone.
If I on the other hand added the prefix to a number on the phone and then performed a sync the * and # came along into the Address Book. But performing another sync after this deleted the * and # on the phone.
Any thoughts about this?
best regards
Oskar

Looks like a bug in Apple iSync 2.2. I would report this to Apple directly.

  • Special Characters in phone numbers - 6085

I have looked through the entire User's Guide for my 6085 and cannot find how to store special characters, such as pause, in the telephone number. Lots of info about special characters for texting but not phone number. Is this feature not available?

Pressing the '*' key 3 times gets you a 'p' (2 second pause), and pressing it 4 times gets you a 'w' (wait).
NB: I've not tried this on a S40 phone like the 6085 so test it before taking my word for it!

    Ramesh,
Its not possible to have special characters in the number range object. You will have to use other fields to accomplish your needs and work around it.

  • What's wrong with the built-in keyboard on my macbook? The caps button does not work rite, no matter what letter button i push they all come out capitals and the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers!

the built-in keyboard on my macbook is not functioning right, the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers,
the caps button doesn't work at all, the letter buttons display capitals when pushed whether the caps button is on or off, the shift keys are also out of whack!!
It seems it somehow got relocated to the "0" button because if you push and hold the zero button down the keyboard seems to operate normally, the number keys display numbers when pushed the letter keys display lower case when pushed but release the zero button and your back in the twilight zone!! Can anybody help me resolve this issue? one more thing im using an external usb keyboard right now and it seems to function properly if that helps any.

You would do better in the actual macbook pro forums (this is not).

  • Maximum Number of Special Characters in a cell

    Hello All,
We have a currency value in our report as "-$200", our requirement is to display -ve sign in closed brackets as "$(200)".
For this we made a query level property as "Display -Ve value in ()" and after making this change the key figure value is displaying as "$(200" and not as "$(200)".
Can someone please suggest me is there any limitations for the number of special characters that can be used in a particular cell value?
Also please suggest me if any solution for the same?
    Regards,
    AVS Reddy

    Hi,
I dont feel like 3 is the limitation for a cell to hold special character.
check the query output in RSRT and analyze...check your SP and raise to SAP...if you still face this issue...

  • Safari "tel:" phone number links stripping non-numeric characters

After a week of owning my iPhone (two weeks after it launched) I made myself a little web interface that contain various iPhone-helpful links. Four of these were AT&T specific telephone links:
*646# - check how many minutes remaining
    *729 - pay your bill
    etc etc..
    (e.g. <a href="tel:*729">click here to pay your bill</a>)
Well, needless to say this was a very convenient feature, however these links no longer function properly. It seems that the iPhone is now stripping any/all non-numeric characters from the link (although I haven't done extensive testing to see exactly which characters .. only with * and $ in particular).
I've even tried HTML entities but they were stripped too.
Now I know apple had a security fix a few patches back, one that fixed a vulnerability involving "tel:" links (CVE-2007-3755), but I haven't found any documentation regarding special characters now being ignored/stripped.
So, my question is does anyone know if there is a workaround for this, or did the patch inadvertently and permanently destroy the ability to send these very helpful text messages via a web interface?
    Thanks,
    Marc

I'm having a similarly annoying behavior with "tel:" links. I'm doing the same thing -- writing a web page to store some convenient numbers, but for me, it's for teleconference numbers. You dial into a toll-free number, then after a pause, dial in a passcode.
On the iPhone's contact list, you can program in the pauses as the letter "p."
However, in a tel: link, the p's change to 7's. Interesting!
What I've discovered is that, for me (FW 1.1.2), alphabetical characters are translated into their numerical equivalents. So 1-800-COMCAST (a number I've had to dial all too much recently) gets rendered to 18002662278.
This is a difference between Safari 3 and the iPhone version. On Safari 3 on the Mac, both the HTML and a mouseover shows that the tel link contains the letters. On the iPhone, though, clicking the link brings up a dialog box with the letters "translated."
So, interesting -- but now I have a problem. How do I enter a pause into a tel link?

  • Maximum # of Characters for Contact Phone Number

Anyone know what the maximum number of characters allowed, that will execute a call, within the contact phone number field for Rev 2.0?
Past s/w revision I was able to enter up to 40 characters, inclusive of spaces and pauses (",").
This now does not work, in fact it will not even try to dial the number.
This is causing me problems since I use international access codes and pins for overseas dialing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Other threads discussing the issue of pauses, etc, suggest it isn't the length of the number that stymies the iPhone, but something about the pause itself. I believe it mattered whether the number was entered on the phone or the computer (I think enter it on the phone). Try a search on the general iphone forum for more discussion.

  • C2-03 TEXT MESSAGING INSERTING CONTACT PHONE NUMBE...

I'm a celphone prepaid loader so I often refer to my phonebook  whenever I send a prepaid  load. In other nokia phone model to paste a contact person's name or phone number in the body of the text message all you need to do is choose "insert name" or "insert number" and I can't seem to find this feature in the c2-03 model. All I can find is "insert symbol" which would only allow you to insert special characters or smileys, whereas  "insert object" would allow you to add attachment.  This is a very important feature as it saves time to just import the information from the phonebook instead of inputting phone number right off the keypad.

i am facing same problem... is there any another way to insert contacts in messages in c2-02 or c2-03?

  • Time-dependent Vendor Master & Handling Special Characters

    Hi,
I need to extract time-dependent Vendor Master.
    1. The data source for <b>0VENDOR</b> does not have fields to hold the valid date range.
    2. Does the Master data in R/3 for Vendors will hold the valid date range?
    3. The text for <b>0VENDOR</b> provides time-dependent, but how to map the <b>valid from</b> and <b>valid to</b> fields?
    Handling Special Characters:
We are trying to extract data from Legacy system via DB Connect. The item text field consists of special characters. Of course in BW customization we can specify all the special characters to consider. But the special character we observed is 'square' symbol i.e. 'new line character' in Oracle. We are updating this to an ODS object. When looked at error log, observed that green light for the number of records transferred and updated, but finally when it load into ODS object and activates popping up the error message saying 'could not recognize special character'.
Please help me getting the 2 issues resolved.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How to handle special characters in NWDI

    Dear All
I am trying to update the Description from JSP form. Through JCO we are calling the RFC of ABAP. We are passing these description from Java to RFC of ABAP and this RFC update the text in Database.
We have noticed that if there is some special character in description like as : š or ž, complete description is not getting updated in to the SAP database.
Can anyone help me how to handle these special characters in Java. There may be N number of special characters. We want to generalize it. We want to replace these characters by s and z respectively.
For example : We want to update this description.

    Regards
    Bhavishya

    Hi Bhavishya,
Apparently your SAP database isn't configured to support Unicode. That would be the first solution to your problem, but I can imagine it's a bit drastic to convert your DB.
A second solution would be to encode the input description to ASCII before storing it in the database. When reading from the database, decode again to Unicode. This way, no information is lost. A suitable encoding would be Base64. e.g.
    String description = "šunday žebra";
    String descriptionBase64 = new sun.misc.BASE64Encoder().encode(
      description.getBytes("UTF-8")); // ""
// store descriptionBase64 in the DB
// later, when reading descriptionBase64 from the DB
    String description2 = new String(
      new sun.misc.BASE64Decoder().decodeBuffer(descriptionBase64), "UTF-8");
Instead of using Sun's implementation, a better alternative is to use the open source implementation
    org.apache.commons.codec.binary.Base64 from Commons Codec .
The 3rd approach is indeed to normalize the description by replacing all special characters with their ASCII equivalent. A rather easy solution is as follows:
    String description = "šunday žebra";
    String descriptionNormalized = sun.text.Normalizer.normalize(
      description, sun.text.Normalizer.DECOMP, 0).replaceAll(
      "[^p{ASCII}]", "");
sun.text.Normalizer decomposes the string, e.g. "éàî" becomes "e´a`i^", after which non-ASCII characters are being removed using a regular expression.Again, note that it's usually a bad idea to use sun.* packages, see note about sun.* packages. The above code only works with J2SE 1.4 and J2SE 5.0, but it breaks in J2SE 6.0 (where
java.text.Normalizer became part of the public API ;-). A good open source implementation can be found here: ICU4J (com.ibm.icu.text.Normalizer).
    Kind regards,
    /Sigiswald

  • My iMessage is stuck on the wrong phone number and I keep getting coded text messages from SMS Info.

I recently switched the sim card in my iPhone when I moved from one country to another. When I put my local sim card in iMessage would not activate (just staying on 'waiting for activation' forever). This has not been a problem before. When I went to send/receive I saw the phone number there is still on the old one from the country I left. This is not the case in phone settings when I look for 'my phone number' or in facetime, which recognise the new number.
Plus I keep getting text messages from 'SMS Info'. They are just code, except that in there my new phone number is included among the code. The only other discernible characters are the letters 'REG-RESP?'. Perhaps this is something to do with an error in registering my new number.
    I have tried-
    1. Turning it off and on again.
    2. Turning iMessage off and on again. This results in the usual 'it may cost you to reactivate with an SMS' popup on my phone screen, then a popup saying there has been a mistake, then one of these coded SMS messages.
    3. Doing the above in combination with logging in and out of my apple id (as suggested on another forum post here)
    4. Removing the new sim card and replacing the old one. Then turning off iMessage, replacing the new sim card and turning iMessage back on (of course powering the phone down and up)
None of these remedies have worked. The iMessage problem is affecting all sorts of my messages. Windows keep popping up saying that I may have to pay for an SMS to activate iMessage, except that it doesn't activate. The SMS messages from 'SMS Info' keep coming and I can't seem to get any of it to stop an just work normally.
I have looked in these forums already and can't see the same problem elsewhere. If someone could figure this out I would be most grateful.

    Hi,
When a Mac is "registered" for iMessages account with an Apple ID the Serial Number of the Mac is used to create an Auth Token as it is called for the Messages app that allows that Mac to work.
I would guess a similar process of linking the Number of the iPhone to a Hardware fact about the device is also in place.
I would contact Apple Support and check with them.  (you might need to speak to a Level 2 person as Level 1 people are script led and try to fit everything into Software or Hardware categories where as sorting and Apple ID (which the Number is in this case) is normally Free).
I did find this iOS: Troubleshooting Messages - Apple Support
It starts off about sorting SMS that is not working.

  • Iphone 3g: Clicking phone number in calendar doesn't work

Clicking on phone number in email will prompt for calling the number but the same doesn't work in calendar. Is it a known issue ?

Adding my agreement to this issue. Since iPhone recognizes phone numbers everywhere else, it's very disappointing that it doesn't work in calendar. This is probably the most important place for phone number recognition. considering there is no cut/paste feature, this means I have to write down the number on paper and the manually enter into the keypad, very inconvenient!
When this is addressed, it will be very important to include recognition of additional numbers and characters used for conference calls, like the blackberry has done for years.

  • PDFs using BI publisher and special characters - pound sterling

I have a table with character strings which include the £ pound sterling sign.
If I create an xml file from the table using the escape sequence for the pound sign & # 163; and load it into BI publisher, the pdf renders correctly using an rtf template.
If I include the pound sign in the rtf template itself the pdf renders correctly and if I use a report query in Apex based on the table, and an rtf template then the pdf renders correctly.
However there is a limit to the number of columns that can be sent to BI via the report query - we have found this to be 119 columns. For more than this we have been using a stored function to return xml data as a clob and use the clob to generate the pdf with the rtf report layout (using get_print_document). This method works fine but the pound sign is not rendered correctly (appears as "?").
The NLS_LANG is set to english_united kingdom in the database and in BI publisher. The locale in bi publisher is en_GB. BI will create the pdf correctly with the pound sign if using a standard xml file (with escape seq for pound) so I am sure it is not a language issue in BI/Apex.
Any ampersands in the xml cause the pdf to fail completely and we cannot represent special characters with a sequence containing the ampersand for this reason. I have tried "& # 163;" and "& amp;#163;" and variations and have also tried using CDATA, none of which gives the correct pdf output. I have also tried to switch the encoding to Windows-1252 or ISO-8859-1 in the header of the xml (xml generated by stored procedure so can control this), but this gives incorrect results too.
We also need to send other special characters to BI via get_print_document and apex (bullet points, ampersands, dashes ) but cannot use the escape sequences because of the ampersand problem.
Has anyone had any success with this?
Is there any plan ( for a future version of Apex) to increase the number of columns that can be used in report query using Apex/BI publisher?
    Thanks
    Kathryn

    Hi Kathryn
I've had exactly the same problem as you've mentioned.
Firstly, I've also found that I cannot select more than 119 columns from a view using a report query and have opted to the use the stored function to return the xml (same as you).
After conducting a lot of searching and experimenting i've found that you can use the following escape characters in REPLACE in your stored function:-
'£' can be replaced with CHR(194)||CHR(163)
'%' can be replaced with '%25'
'&' can be replaced with '%26amp;'
I found the above escape characters from the xml file or by opening the xml file in Wordpad. Therefore I'm sure you'll be able to find the escape characters for the other symbols that you mentioned i.e. bullet points, dashes etc.
I hope this has helped. Good luck and let me know if you get any developments with the limitation on the number of columns that can be selected from a report query as this would save a lot of trouble (as I'm sure you're aware).
    Thanks
