Special Characters problem in Index entry

Hi Experts,
I'm using InDesign CS4 with MAC OS 10.6.8.
We are doing other language books like Italian, Swedish, Germany, Dutch, French, etc., We are converting word manuscripts to styled text file and that has been flowed in the InDesign Template file. While flowing the text file in the Template, special characters (ä, å, ë, ï, ö, ü, œ) are not converted properly in the index palette.
I have attached screenshots for your reference. Please help me if you have the solution for these.

You can see the encoding is already off in your Tagged Text data file, so the error lies in the program you used to do that conversion.

  • Special Characters problem in PI 7.1

    Hi,
We have simple integration from R3 to JMS. from R3, idocs contain special characters, and they are getting converted in to different chanracters in integration engine. So making the output data currupted.
I tested the same message in mapping test tool and the target message contains actual special charcters. Below is the example,
    Input:
i was thinking of using XMLAnonymizer, but the problem is in integration engine itself. I can see invalid output in SXMB_MONI.
so could some one help me how can i fix this issue?
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Text fields special characters problem in forms created with ID

    Hi there,
I'm creating form document with ID.
The problem with special characters appears after exporting file to interactive pdf.
When filling up text field, special characters (polish language specials in my case) are replaced by squares.
I do not know if this is a ID problem (and I should set encoding during pdf creation somehow) or Acrobat/Reader problem (tried both and also in Polish or English versions).
    Some help would be appreciated.

I am Creative Cloud User and downloaded fresh ID less than 2 hours ago.. And honestly the last thing I would think about was updating.
But in fact - it was the problem.
So thank you very much for help!

  • Metadata special characters problem

You would be forgiven for thinking it easy to add a caption for each image to identify the photographer and her credentials. Metadata is there for that purpose and the IPTC "Author" field seems an obvious choice.
However, most letters-after-your-name will contain special characters eg.
    Gordon Bennett FRPS; MPAGB; EFIAP/b.
and these cause huge problems to the Adobe products that seem to have gone un guided.
If these are entered into the Metadata in the File Info panel in say Photoshop or Bridge they are recorded correctly. When reading the Metadata from file in Lightroom (Vista version) however, only the text up to the first semicolon in the above example is transferred. The same problem occurs with the slash. Thus all the Lightroom modules work on incomplete data.
(I have neither special character set as a keyword seperator in Preferences).
Is there some coding tag that can be wrapped round this text to ensure it is published correctly by the web module ?

    Hi Kenneth,
Thanks very much for your comments.
In Preferences>File Handing I have de-selected the option to have Lightroom use forward slash as a keyword seperator. My understanding is that therefore it should not do so.
Do you mean that Vista overrides this? or is it simply the Vista version of Lightroom that is doing it.
I had noticed that if a comma is used to seperate keywords that both Bridge and Photoshop replaces them with semicolons and it seems that you cannot prevent this.
Do you know something about how this mechanism works and if it can be varied?
As for an answer to your question of "what shows up in the fileds" I don't think you can tell. Although you can in Bridge/Photoshop by examining the File Info panel, in Lightroom it just disappears into the "catalogue" and cannot be examined. It is displayed of course in the Lr metadata panel but that is where we started, with truncated fields !! However if you save the apparently truncated metadata xmp in Lr then force a read again in Bridge, the full data seems to still be there. Thus it would seem this is a problem specific to Lr and the way it displays metadata containing special characters.
Any further info on the Vista issue would be very welcome.

  • Resource bundle UTF-8 encoding and Turkish special characters problem

    Hi dear developers,
I'm developing a WebCenter Portal App in JDev 11.1.1.6.0 version. My project uses resource bundle for being multilingual. I have two bundles :
    1) <bundleName>_tr.properties (this the default one)
    2) <bundleName>_en.properties (this is the supported locale.)
Now I have problem about the turkish characters in turkish bundle. When i run my project, it has a view just like this --> http://postimage.org/image/wr8nrm345/ (browser view) and http://postimage.org/image/3mf3fp2kl/ (bundleView)
    (Watch the "?" chars ! )
You can see the bundle doesn't support Turkish special characters. How can i overcome with this problem?
    Thanks in advance.Regards

If you want to edit Unicode text resource you need a Unicode-aware text editor.
You can search the Internet, but I had a good experience with Notepad++
You may also ask in the JDeveloper forum ( JDeveloper and ADF ) if there is a way to resolve it. I found this: http://blog.newtrics.com/?p=242 , so I believe it may be possible somehow.

In the input file i have one field called "description"(50 in length). The vendor is

read the file. BUt during the mapping it is failing ( no transformation I am using.
Just it is a one to one mapping). HOw to pass the message through XI without failing
I am using file type as text and file encoding as UTF-8
Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

    Hi Palnati,
You could try to replace this characters with the help of a
user defined function or xslt mapping....
the special characters are '#' and '=' .. If so you can add them in RSKC ..
And then load from the PSA to your data target ..

When I am trying with PHP insert character "š" ( http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/0161/index.htm ) or some other special character into Oracle table and then do SELECT from this table I get value "??" which is wrong.
There is no problem for example with char "a". There is no problem inserting data with SQLPlus or Toad for Oracle - inserted data is always correct. There is no problem for example with echo("some_special_sharacters"); in PHP. I have no problems inserting data with PHP to MySQL database.

  • FileUpload and special characters problem

    Dear all,
I currently encounter a issue with the FileUpload module.
In my user form I have a FileUpload module to enable the user to upload a certificate file. The module itself is working fine but when the user controls an organisation containing a special character (like ñ), I cannot save the form because of the following error :
( ) - Warning: Parenthesized values in field 'accounts[Lighthouse].controlledOrganizations' do not match any of the allowed values.
    No controlled organisation is parenthesized.
If I remove the FileUpload module, there is no error and I can save the user.
If I change the type of the FileUpload module to Text, there is no error and I can save the user.
I have two environments with this problem and two other without but the forms are identical, the java classes are the same. I do not see what would be able to cause this behaviour.
Do you have any idea how to fix this ?
It looks like the issue reported in this thread Problem using FileUpload Class Element/ encoding/ umlaut problem
    Thanks

Try to use parameters instead hardcoding values in the queries:
    select * from user where lower(username)=?;
and don't forget to lower the value from java side as well ;-)

  • Dwm special characters with tty font?

Currently, I have dwm configured like so:
    http://i.imgur.com/JsTurIO.png
But as you can see, in the upper left corner, my tag names aren't displaying properly, neither is the title of the directory I'm in (†††). I've tried the dwm-pango patch, but then I'm unable to get it to use the same font it uses currently for the menubar, which I would like it to do. I also have no idea what the name of the font it's currently using is.
So, two questions: is there a way I can get special characters to show up with dwm while maintaining the same font, and if not, how can I switch the font in my terminal windows so that I can match the statusbar and my other windows? I suspect the answer to the second is just some line in .Xresources which I can probably figure out unless there's something more complicated, but I'd rather just use the same font I'm currently using, but fix the special characters problem.

However, I've made sure freetype2 is installed properly and that ft2build.h is where it's supposed to be. Why might this be happening?
Edit: Managed to figure this out. But it's still not using a console font in dwm. How can I get it to use a font from /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts/?
I'm trying to also get this to work but get the same error as you did.
How did you do to fix it?
You need to add a couple lines to config.mk in the source directory.
@OP: It's not entirely clear what your goal is. The XFT patch allows for unicode .ttf fonts, and affects the entire statusbar; the current Pango patch allows for fonts in languages with unique character sets (Cyrillic, CJK, Thai, etc.) but some Pango features only affect the right-hand statusline. If you're trying to add, say, symbols or icons to your tag names for a little eye-candy, you can use the XFT patch and use unicode characters. If you're trying to use a font for your native language, Pango would be the better choice. From what I can tell (C often doesn't come easily to me), it seems each patch replaces console font support entirely for its respective alternative. I'm not aware of any solution that could allow you to use a console font in DWM while displaying special characters; you'll probably have to pick whichever patch you feel is less invasive and detrimental.
EDIT: If you choose to apply a patch and then change the fonts in your terminal emulator, the latter depends on which terminal you're using. The wiki has articles on Xterm and Urxvt; other terminals will either have a configuration menu or file you can alter, probably mentioned in the man page.

  • Problems with Turkish special characters

    Hello!
We are producing Oracle Help with WebWorks Publisher 2003 Professional for FrameMaker. There are some problems with the Turkish version of our online help: The Turkish special characters (for example the dotless i) aren´t displayed correctly in the navigation panes TOC and index. They are replaced by other characters (for example by a "y")
Has anyone an idea how to solve this problem?
    Thank you very much.
    Kind regards,
    Miriam Rassenhofer

    Miriam,
What encoding are the TOC and index XML files being generated in? You should use UTF-8 for the minimum of problems. I presume WebWorks has an option for this. Other than that, make sure the top of those XML files has the proper XML declaration with the encoding:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>You may want to try opening the XML files in an XML-aware text editor to ensure they look right there (JDeveloper is one such editor).
If all of that is working, post back and we can talk offline about getting a snippet of one of those XML files for us to look at.

  • Have a problem in Numbers with entering data directly into a cell when a table reaches a certain size and special characters are used?

I am creating a list of words with special characters in some of them. I get to a point where I cannot enter data directly into the cell. I have to use the data entry bar at the top in the toolbar. Any solutions available?
This is the table I am creating...
From row 25 on, I am only able to enter data into the cell through the toolbar at the top and not directly into the cell itself. I believe that this problem originates from the special characters I have inserted in the previous records because if I do not use special characters, then the spreadsheet acts flawlessly. Have there been issues in Numbers with data entry, the size of a table, and using special characters?

I would try removing the rows with "special" characters one at a time to see which one is causing the problem
