Special danish caracters?

One of my associates has a problem after she switched from mac to windows. Her new PC based indesign wont produce the special danish caracters (æ, ø and å).
The fonts installed on the machine are indeed danish versions.
I would love to be able to help her as she is very sweet.
But i am a mac-user myself.
Any ideas?
Gustav

> Her new PC based indesign wont produce the special danish caracters (æ, ø and å).
Sure it will. This is not an Indesign problem. This is just a mac user
who's not used to PCs yet. As Claudius suggested, she could install a
Danish keyboard layout. Or as Peter suggested, she could use the Glyphs
panel (in Indesign) or ALT codes (in any Windows program). To input ALT
codes, hold down an ALT key while typing four numbers from the numeric
keypad on the right of the keyboard:
æ = ALT 0230
ø = ALT 0248
å = ALT 0229
There are many more in Windows Character Map.

  • Issues with danish characters and sync

    I am using a Nokia 5800, Nokia Ovi Suite 1.1 and synchronize through a cable from phone to PC.
    I am using the Address Book from Outlook Express to synchonize between my Nokia phone and my PC. However, any special danish characters (æ, ø and å) are not correctly transferred from the phone to the PC, though the other way round does not cause any problems.
    This is an issue when I set it up to synchronize both ways, as everytime I do this, all people in my Phone with either æ, ø or å in their name come in to my Outlook list as duplicates where the above-mentioned letters are replaced by some rubbish.
    I assumed this was some language-settings but everywhere I can see my PC is set for danish and so is my phone.
    What can I do to prevent this problem? Is there anywhere specific I have to change / modify some setting?

    Hi richard116,
    The BlackBerry Desktop Software requires a one time connection to the internet when configuring synchronization. Its possible this could be being blocked due to a firewall or anti-virus software. The following article should help you diagnose the cause and then resolve the issue so you can setup synchronization. http://bbry.lv/mfgghx
    Hope this helps.

  • LoadVars odd danish letters

    hi i have a problem getting flash to send my loadvars to php.
    not that flash dossent send and my php site dossent get the
    send data, but flash is altering some of the data.
    i have a string text with som special danish letters
    (æøå) the UTF-8 code for (ø) = "%F8" but when
    flash sends it it is translated into "%C3%B8" and this is where my
    php fails to follow and comes up with som ood looking danish.
    im hoping that this is easy to fix ither by me scripting or a
    plugin.
    please help!!

    this is more of a PHP issue you have.
    try the PHP functions utf8_decode() and urldecode()

    for more help about this you should try posting on a PHP

  • Reading a TXT file from a Flash Movie

    Using "LoadVariables" to establish a connection between the
    running Flash program and a text file in the same folder works just
    as expected with no problems. I am on a Windows machine and using
    the recipe from the fabulous help system.
    The problem - yes there IS a problem - arises when the text
    file contains special Danish characters.
    The odd part here is, that everything works fine from inside
    Falsh using "Test Movie", but not when publishing the movie and
    launching from inside a browser (both IE and Firefox).
    The help system says, that data should be URL-encoded. Trying
    that (characters %e6, %f8 and %e5) does not fix anything. The input
    is read, but the offending character is gobbled up along with the
    two next characters, or the program simply hangs.
    Any suggestions?[

    No i didn't do that in my first series of tries. Following
    your suggestion I did that (embedding Latin I, that should contain
    all the necessary characters), but it didn't do the trick. Actually
    it prevented my writing to a dynamic text field intended to
    interact with the user.
    Using English cahracters only it worked fine (with invisible
    text ;-) ).
    Using Danish characters I got the same result: Not working
    properly.
    Using the Danish characters from inside Flash to fill in text
    fields (static, dynamic and input) normally works fine, so I am
    puzzled - still

  • Setting the Charset for outgoing mail in Mail

    When I send mails to windows-systems, the Outlook program gets the message with wrong characters. Especially of course the special danish characters, but also other information goes wrong. F.ex. grey lines hows up where I certainly did not put it!
    I have noticed, that the header of the message from Mail is like this:
    --Apple-Mail-1--672517002
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
    Content-Type: text/plain;
    charset=US-ASCII;
    delsp=yes;
    format=flowed
    Sometimes like this:
    --Apple-Mail-9--596884052
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
    Content-Type: text/plain;
    charset=UTF-8;
    delsp=yes;
    format=flowed
    When using the HTML functionality in Mail I get headers like this:
    --Apple-Mail-2--619494695
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
    Content-Type: text/plain;
    charset=WINDOWS-1252;
    delsp=yes;
    format=flowed
    And the HTML-mails show's correctly!
    I guess it is an charset issue, but how can I control that maually?

    Open your Mail.app
    From the top of your screen choose Window>Connection Doctor.
    Double click on each server and make sure the password field is filled out, (your smtp server is likely to be missing the password)
    Enter the password into the field you find empty and close the preferences windows (saving changes if prompted) and close the Connection Doctor.
    Test to make sure you are fixed.
    If issues continue its going to be an issue with Keychain Access and you will need additional steps.

  • Problem crawling filenames with national characters

    Hi
    I have a big problem with filenames containing national (danish) characters.
    The documents gets an entry in in wk$url but have error code 404 (Not found).
    I'm running Oracle RDBMS 9.2.0.1 on Redhat Advanced Server 2.1. The
    filesystem is mounted on the oracle server using NFS.
    I configure the Ultrasearch to crawl the specific directory containing
    several files, two of which contains national characters in their
    filenames. (ls -l)
    <..>
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 user group 13 Oct 4 13:36 crawlertest_linux_2_fxeFXE.txt
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 user group 19968 Oct 4 13:36 crawlertest_windows_fxeFXE.doc
    <..>
    (Since the preview function is not working in my Mozilla browser, I'm
    unable to tell whether or not the national characters will display
    properly in this post. But they represent lower and upper cases of the
    three special danish characters.)
    In the crawler log the following entries are added:
    <..>
    file://localhost/<DIR_PATH>/crawlertest_linux_2_B|C?C%C?C?.txt
    file://localhost/<DIR_PATH>/crawlertest_linux_2_B|C?C%C?C?.txt
    Processing file://localhost/<DIR_PATH>/crawlertest_linux_2_%e6%f8%e5%c6%d8%c5.txt
    WKG-30008: file://localhost/<DIR_PATH>/crawlertest_linux_2_%e6%f8%e5%c6%d8%c5.txt: Not found
    <..>
    file://localhost/<DIR_PATH>/crawlertest_windows_B|C?C%C?C?.doc
    file://localhost/<DIR_PATH>/crawlertest_windows_B|C?C%C?C?.doc
    Processing file://localhost/<DIR_PATH>/crawlertest_windows_%e6%f8%e5%c6%d8%c5.doc
    WKG-30008:
    file://localhost/<DIR_PATH>/crawlertest_windows_%e6%f8%e5%c6%d8%c5.doc:
    Not found
    <..>
    The 'file://' entries looks somewhat UTF encoded to me (some chars are
    missing because they are not printable) and the others looks URL
    encoded.
    All other files in the directory seems to process just fine!.
    In the wk$url table the following entries are added:
    (select status url from wk$url where url like '%crawlertest%'; )
    404 file://localhost/<DIR_PATH>/crawlertest_linux_2_%e6%f8%e5%c6%d8%c5.txt
    404 file://localhost/<DIR_PATH>/crawlertest_windows_%e6%f8%e5%c6%d8%c5.doc
    Just for testing purpose a
    SELECT utl_url.unescape('%e6%f8%e5%c6%d8%c5') from dual;
    Actually produce the expected resulat : fxeFXE
    To me this indicates that the actual filesystem scanning part of the
    crawler can sees the files, but the processing part of the crawler can
    not open the file for reading and it therefor fails with error 404.
    Since the crawler (to my knowledge is written in Java i did some
    experiments, with the following Java program.
    import java.io.*;
    class filetest {
    public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception {
    try {
    String dirname = "<DIR_PATH>";
    File dir = new File(dirname);
    File[] fs = dir.listFiles();
    for(int idx = 0; idx < fs.length; idx++) {
    if(fs[idx].canRead()) {
    System.out.print("Can Read: ");
    } else {
    System.out.print("Can NOT Read: ");
    System.out.println(fs[idx]);
    } catch(Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    The performance of this program is very depending on the language
    settings of the current shell (under Linux). If LC_ALL is set to "C"
    (which is a common default) the program can only read files with
    filenames NOT containing national characters (Just as the Ultrasearch
    crawler). If LC_ALL is set to e.g. "en_US", then it is capable of
    reading all the files.
    I therefor tried to set the LC_ALL environment for the oracle user on
    my oracle server (using locale_config, and .bash_profile) but that did
    not seem to fix the problem at hand.
    So (finally) my question is; is this a bug in the Ultrasearch crawler
    or simply a mis configuration of my execution environment. If the
    latter how do i configure my system correctly?
    Yours sincerely

    I've posted my problems as a TAR on METALINK a little week ago.
    And it turns out to be a new bug in UltraSearch.

  • XI JMS Adapter encoding and codepage (MDMP) problem

    Hi
    I have a scenario where i convert an IDoc into a target structure and post it onto a Websphere MQ queue using JMS adapter. The SAP system which sends the idoc is a non/unicode system and i can receive data which can either danish, polish etc. Within XI the mapping works fine and the data is transferred to the MQ series queue. But when the third party system tries to get the message from the queue it says it downloads the message and is unable to convert the downloaded message due to invalid content (special danish, polish characters). Also the CCSID and encoding expected is 1252 and 546 respectively, but whenever i send message to the queue the CCSID is 1252 but encoding is 273.
    Any idea as to why the above is happening, and how can it be corrected.
    Also if anybody had faced any issues with respect to code page problems and resolved it with JMS as either sender or receiver, please share the same with me as well.
    I am repeating that my SAP system is non-unicode (MDMP) system.
    thanks

    Sameer,
    I guess u can ask the third party to set CodedCharSet in GetMessageOptions. Actually my MQ knowledge is around 4 yrs old but I remember we had similar problem when we were pushing messages on remote queue of MQ on AS-400. I hope they resolved by setting this value.

  • IDN domains and upload (IO & Security errors)

    I have site with a file-uploader created in Flash. It works great, I have never encountered any security issues, nor would I expect too, because the swf and the serverside files (in this case ASP.NET) are all in the same domain.
    My site can be accessed from several hostheaders (domains). This is not a problem, everything works great unless the site is being called from an IDN domain (in this case a domain with special danish characters). When called from an IDN domain, everything starts to fall apart. I get a security error, probably because the browser translates the IDN domain and Flash does not (or vice versa).
    I have tried to solve this with a crossdomain.xml file, but the security error still occurs. I can see that the crossdomain.xml file gets called from Flash, but it doesn't seem to honor the contents of the file. The file has the lowest security settings possible ("*") while debugging.
    In a different approach, I have tried to call the serverside-scripts from Flash using relative paths instead (no domain) but then I get an IO error because the file cannot be found. Using Fiddler i noticed that the host of the request had been translated into some url-encoded looking string.
    I believe the "funny things" happens in the FileReference.upload method because prior to uploading I make a request (to check for file existance on server already) and this serverside call works as expected. Only the upload() call fails.
    Is this a known issue, am I doing something wrong or do you have any suggestions? It's very hard to Google information on Flash (upload or security) and IDN domains.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I am also having problems with UNC paths. But I cannot access the location even if it is mapped as a drive. In JDK VJM I do not have a problem, but in Oracle it says the file cannot be found and say permission denied. I will try to change the user that starts the database and see if that helps.

  • Jspf files are not interpretated when included? weblogic 8.1

    Well My problem is that jspf files are not interpretated when included
              into jsp files. stuff such as netui tags are included as text and
              printed as such?
              Does this mean that jspf files are only for pure HTML?

    Hey David
              I discovered the error its the special danish letters (which I cant even
              write here due to the charset). ae,oe,aa (???)
              When used as variable names in a jspf file and included they are
              misinterpreted. This is not the case in a jsp file.
              Its clearly a bug in BEA, but I replaced all occurrences and worked
              myself around it.

The "directive" includes the text into the JSP page before it is compiled, so any JSP tags in the included text will be compiled as if they were part of the original page. The "action" includes the text at run-time, after the JSP is converted to a servlet and loaded into the JVM. If the result of your "include action" is a string of text with JSP tags, that string will be included in the result as-
              > is, without being compiled.
              >
              > From what you describe, I'm guessing you're using an include action, not an include directive. Reorganize your application to use include directives for your ".jspf" files, and you should be on the right track.

  • No third level chooser

    Hi
    I've just bought a second hand Mac Mini G4 and I'm using a standard USB Logitech mouse and keyboard (no cordless or other special features). I have reinstalled it and instaled all updates. But I have no third level chooser, meaning I can't write @, pipe and etc. Other special danish characters such as æ,ø and å works fine, but just no third levels. I'm a Mac Newbie (used to Linux), so i dont know if it's something obvious I'm missing. But i'm starting to get tired of copy/paste @.
    I tried setting the keyboard as ISO or ANSI, it doesn't matter.
    BTW a second thing i'm curious about. Is there a .conf file for NIC-settings?
    Best Regards

    Mac Mini G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Well the "keyboard" viewer showed where the @ is and etc. It's not a fix, but a workaround so i can write those character. I'll still be searching for a better solution and will post it if i find it. But thank you for your help...
    Regarding Mac Software from Logitech.
    I got a UltraX keyboard with no Logitech software.

    Do NOT try to install other Logitech software for testing. I did that and i couldn't click with my mouse and the keybord hardly reacted on my input, so it was useless. So i had to reinstall, you've live and learn.

  • Changing the macbook keyboard

    Hi everybody hope someone'll be able to help me.
    I'm thinking of buying my first macbook this summer in the US. But there is one big hurdle - The keyboard. I want it in danish with the special danish keys Æ,Ø & Å.
    Whats the price for the keyboard?
    Can i change the physical keyboard myself? if not what would it cost to have the apple store do it for me?
    Have anybody experience with this i'd love if you could help me!
    Joey

    If getting a Danish keyboard is beyond what you want to pay, I recommend the overlays, stickers or just writing on the keys. I have been using Macs for Japanese since 1985. Some software I bought once came with some keyboard stickers and they worked really well. I know it's not the same as Danish, and now with modern input systems I don't bother, but I just thought I would add this info.
