Special Effect - Question

We have a project in which we would like to super-impose or place banners on buildings in a live shot.
The effect would have to account for some wind-effects so that it will be semi realistic.
Does anyone know if this is feasible?

I think because the footage/scenes will be while driving inside a car. With some panning back. The 3rd dimension would require Maya or similar. I think as Steven mentioned AE is a great choice. Just we do not have the experience to judge if it would give most accurate realism

  • Special effect question - beginner

I am a beginner at video editing.  In fact, I have never edited a video before.  My kids have a video with a wizard wand and want to have a lightning bolt come out of it and we can insert items to look like they created with magic.  Is this something this software can do?  Are there "stock" flash lightning bolts etc?  I am looking for a product to purchase that I will be able to figure out easy or get assistance.
    Thanks

    Hi braxpark,
After Effects would be the place to add the lightning bolt effect to your video in Premiere Pro.
The two products work together easily: How to work on After Effects projects in Premiere Pro (and vice-versa) | Adobe Premiere Pro CC tutorials
Regarding the effect you're interested in, you can learn more here:

  • Special effects editing question for iMovie '09

    Hi,
I understand that iMovie '09 doesn't support many (any?) add-on software packages for special effects editing.
Meanwhile, I'm editing some sports clips in iMovie '09,, in which I'd love to have a "spotlight" on a player, (where the other action/background is dimmed), or use an arrow to point at a player---that sort of thing.
Is there a way to---say, do this edit in iMovie HD, or iMovie '06, with special software, then re-import it back into my iMovie '09 project?

    Ziatron,
Thanks for your reply. When you say you use iMovie '06 with iDVD 09 all the time---can you explain further? I guess I go back to my original question---Would iMovie '09 "accept" the edit done in iMovie HD or iMovie '06?
I do like the organizing layout (boxes with titles) much better on the previous versions, as well as some more detailed audio editing---but I'm grudgingly moved on to iMovie 09, and have already loaded a lot of my material (and keyworded them) into iMovie 09. I think I'm going to stick it out with this project.
Thanks in advance for any further advice you can share.

  • Style sheets (paragraph and character) not coping Special Effects

Couple of questions about ID CS3. I have been really digging into the guts of the application and can appreciate how powerful it is.
I am having a couple of problems and don't know if it is me or the app.
    1. I can not get a NEW Paragraph or Character Style Sheet to copy the Special Effects (specifically the drop shadow and inner glow).
I have tried both by using the eye dropper, and the highlighting etc but nothing works. What am i missing?
    2. Also, how can I change the Drop Shadow Distance from the default (.1375in) to something else (ie., .05)? Same thing for the Angle. I also want to change the Distance and Angle for the Inner Glow. I looked in Preferences but could not fine them there. I am afraid to ask when do I use them for Object and when for the text....I will figure that one out by playing with it.
    3. And finally, how do I isolate moving an object. Even though the boundary boxes show up that I have a specific object selected, when I put the mouse in there to move it, some object underneath it moves. This is probably some technique I am not doing correctly.
I absolutely love this application and will appreciate any help in the above questions.
    Thanks,
    bob

Hmmmmmm not too sure what you are saying here (faking my way through applying it to a paragraph and anchored objects).
Lets say I have the following:
    Chef Salad
We use the freshest lettuce, tomatoes..... bla bla bla
I wanted the name of the menu item (Chef Salad) to be 30 pt, Times New Roman, Red text (no container fill), drop shadow.
Lets also say I want the description (the Bla bla bla) to be 15 pt, Arial, Green text, and small drop shadow.
From what I understood you to say(write), I would have to make a Object style for Chef Salad (and I guess another Object style for the description)given that I want to use special effects.
What has been one of the more confusing things about ID (and believe me, I have been watching hours and hours of Lynda.com, Youtube, and reading a book/DVD on the subject) is when to use paragraph styles, Character styles and now Object styles.
Changing the parameters on these styles is not (to me) the difficulty. When and where to use a particular style is.
I don't want to keep bugging you so if you have someplace that really gets into the proper place and time to use these styles I will go there (if I haven't been there already).
However, if it is pretty easy for you to elaborate some more, that too would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks Bob
PS Nice looking web site you have.... I am up there viewing it now.

  • Special Effects?

So my last computer had system 10.3.9 on it.. And hence didnt have a very new iLife. The iMovie was the old school one with none of this skimming business.
I now have a Macbook Pro with iMovie '08 on it.
Either I'm blind.. but I can't seem to find any inkling of the old (and yes simple) effects of the old iMovie on there. Is this new iMovie just a quick movie maker just for cutting clips and adding a little music, maybe changing the colour?
    I hope not.
My question is: any special effect features apart from transitions.

What you see is what you get.

Yes, as well as, import newer storage formats (with or without problems) and share directly to YouTube and/or a gallery.
My question is: any special effect features apart from transitions.
No, not in iMovie '08. (No one has figured out how to add third-party effects yet.) You can, of course, download the free iMovie HD (v6.0.4) so as to use both versions on your computer.

  • Special effects (without 3rd party plugins)

    Hi,
So, I am now happy with time manipulartion (using Twixtor), workflow for my project (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4728201#4728201) and the new PC hardware that we have. I am now coming to the point where the few actual special effects we want for out project need to be investigated. Most of the project will be Green screen compositing work of our characters in their sets, and I am pretty comfortable with creating space scenes in AE - there are hundreds, if not thousands of tutorials on that one - and some of the scenes will have them walking around "real life" environments. The bulk of the effects I forsee now, will be Fire, Smoke, Clouds and rocks.
Fire and smoke, I am busy looking towards either recodring our own footage, or purchasing footage from Video CoPilot or someone - my actual qustion is, can I create realistic looking rocks in AE without any third party plug ins? Say for instance, a volcano erupts, and I want rocks blowing and falling around - can this be done believable without a dedicated 3D program? If so, does anyone have a link to some tutorials on it, or even just an idea of where I can start?
    Thanks guys,
    Pierre

    Hi Guys,
thanks for all the replies - once again (and I guess I knew this before I posted the question - but thought that squeezing my eyes shut and clipping my heels together might allow a different outcome) I see that the answer is completely dependant on what it is I want After Effects to do for me. I have been in the IT industry for many many years now, but never have I come accross a piece of software quite as versatile and far ranging as After Effects! I am learning every day, and enjoying every moment of it (although it starts getting a liitle overwhelming and scary at times). I am going to spend this week runnign through trapcode tutorials, so that I can figure out exactly what the products can do, and then I have arranged a team sit down next week to check through each and every script, make a list of effects required, and balance that out against what I have learned form the products. I will look at a few other products as well, not just Red Giant. I'll admit off the bat, I love Video CoPilots stuff, simply because the Andrew makes the demos and tutorials look so darn good and interresting - wether we would ever use a fresh apple element, with a mercury texture...who knows - but I still want it!
Anyway, thanks again - you have all given me tons of places to go and look, and after a week or so, if my brain has not exploded form all the input, Ill add a small outcome to the thread - for interrest sake.

  • Special effects in 08 imovie?

Just upgraded to 08 imovie only to find no "special video effects" such as Bloom, rain, fog etc etc. Very disappointing. I stopped by Apple store and this was confirmed as well. Are there any add on special effects products out there?

The part you are getting lost on I take it is that in order to import a project into iMovie HD ('06), the necessary video files are copied into a new iMovie project.
Which is why I recommended that anyone doing video editing should be using a secondary drive for storage. As an example, if you have a 160 GB drive, you should try to keep about 24 GBs free for optimum operation. As you have 26 GBs of original data which you are in effect duplicating, then before even starting the "double-import" work flow, you should have 70 MBs of free space available. Sounds like you may have had only 50 MBs or less and that doesn't include whatever disk caching setting you may be using or caching for any and all applications which may be simultaneously open.
You wrongly assume that I would have a spare external drive laying around to do a 26GB transfer.
I make no assumptions here. I am merely stating the fact that if you plan to do video editing, you need both adequate RAM and disk storage space available. If you don't, you are bound to have such problems on a regular basis. With 160-320 MB triple-interface drives available in the $100-$200 range it seems less than productive not to at least consider the purchase of one. (Cheaper drives are available but are probably not the best choice where video capture is involved.)
Besides, do you know how long it takes to do a 26GB transfer?
Can't say as I do on your system. It took me 17 minutes and 32 seconds to transfer 26 GBs while simultaneously compressing a feature film to H.264 (for TV use) and answering these questions.
Instead of all this iMovie '08 to iMovie HD ('06) Tomfoolery, which, in my opinion, is a really big error on Apple's part, I went out and purchased Final Cut Express. I did my basic scene editing in iMovie '08 (which, by the way, it seems to do rather well) and exported the projects to a FCE XML document.
Well, that is one option that I did not previously consider. However, remember that sooner or later if you do any editing in FCE segment/files will likely have to be rendered from the reference source files and this will again start to eat up storage space. Assume you are using FCE v4 here. If not, you may expect to run into some path problems with your XMLs which will likely have to be restored manually.

  • Special effects software to complement imovie

Anyone know of affordable special effects software that is easy to use. Blender has been frustrating. I am looking to add special effects to my movies and then format them in imovie. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • After Effects + Flash - Dynamic Content. How to integrate special effects.

    Hello World of Adobe.
I am currently working on a project involving data driven dynamic content. This data is being incorporated into the video at runtime.
I have done these types of projects before, with success, and am looking to step up my game.
    So the question:
How can I use effects such as - Blur, wiggle, distort, shatter etc. on dynamic content.
    For instance:
John Doe puts his information into a text feild. That data is sent to flash environment, where it is "injected" into the video at the proper time and location. His name appears in fancy lettering surrounded by fancy environment factors. The name however, blurs in and out of focus.... maybe distorts a bit, then shatters.
    An example:
These guys over at XMPie seem to have this figured out.
    http://www.xmpie.com/PEVideo
"Starting with either an original After Effects movie or an existing template from an online library, the user can incorporate variable text, images, and other footage with exciting special effects like animate, wiggle, shatter, blur, warp, distort, and more"
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Thank you for your feedback.
So essentially there would be a After Effects project template on a server waiting for certain input data. Then it would be rendered and .flv encoded and sent to the video player.
    Do I have that right?
This could be a problem given the render time, as my client wants the video shown soon after user data in inputted. But may be a solution for a more rich experience, not generated at run-time.
Are there any plugins or specific scripts you can point me to?
Also, regarding flash, if I were to export cue point data for these custom feilds, does flash support any additional effects... such as blur, opacity etc. That can be placed within the .flv metadata?

  • How do I get more effects in my action box?  I am only showing a few, like BOTTOM BORDERS, LOSE WEIGHT AND SPECIAL EFFECTS. That is all. The turotials I've checked into all show a long list of effects in the actions box. If anyone could help, I appreciate

How do I get more effects in my action box? I am only showing a few, like "Bottom Borders, Losing Weight, Resize and Crop, and Special Effects. And they do not list but a few effects. When I have watched the tutorials, they are showing a long list of effects in the action box. (with a side space bar)  I do not.  When I have clicked on the little arrow at top, and clicked "Load Actions", a box comes up, but it is blank, saying "no items match your search".  I'm lost!  If someone could help, it would be much appreciated!  I would like to start using this.

  • How to install plugin and exta filter in photoshop cs ? and any special filter for special effects ?

how to install plugin and exta filter in photoshop cs ? and any special filter for special effects ?
kindly recommend me any best one and tel me step by step how i will add more plugins n filters

A Plug_in normally come with an installer or install instructions. Check the documentation for the plug-in you trying to install.  It sounds like you don't know what plug-ins you want to install.  In that case you don't need to install any.  At some point you may read about a plug-in and what it can do and feel you have a need for it.  Then you will have a reason to install a plug-in that is not installed by default.  There may also be a cost involved most worthwhile plug-ins are not free.
Adobe Optional Plug_ins downloads are Plugins Adobe want to remove from Photoshop  and no longer install by default. Also at some point in time these will no longer install into the current Photoshop for Adobe will remove feature or interfaces the use. For example the CS5 optional plugins will install in Windows CS6 perpetual version 13.0.1.3 but not in Subscription version 13.1.2 or perpetual Mac version 13.0.6 fot its 64bit only and the Mac CS5 optional plug-in for Picture package is only a 32bit plug-in.
You will need to keep and maintain old versions of Photoshop if Adobe remove features you use in new versions of Photoshop.

  • I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO ADD SPECIAL EFFECTS TO MY MOVIES

Hi i am making a video using a green screen. I used to be able to double click my video on the project bin and choose a special effect such as romantic or black and white. Now i can no longer do this. It brings up video stabalization, audio and video where you can change the color and contrast but no special effects. I have tried both on project bin and importing. I can add special effects to text but not video. Could this be because of green screen effect or length of video?? This is before and after adding a background for the green screen. I am sorry if this has been asked before. I couldn't find anything on this.

Quit the Videos app completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't work - try this. Swipe to the right from your first home screen to get to the iPad Spotlight search. Type in the name of any of your movies in the field at the top. When the movie appears in the search - tap on it and it should start to play. Let it play for a minute or so - hit done - go back to videos app and see if all is OK.

  • IMovie special effects gone with 08?

are the special effects from imovie gone? im talking about where you can put clips in slow motion and reverse them, do lightning effects, and mirror. i cant figure out how to get to them if they're still there.

i just imported some of my old clips from iMovie 06. it stripped them of the effects though, thats why i wanted to know how to add them again and everywhere i've looked they're saying that there arent any right now. i might ask apple if they plan on adding them and will it be a free upgrade because i know more people than me are hurt by this lack of effects
as for making new projects, i clicked the "+" in the bottom left hand corner, and it let me create a new project. they keep all of your old clips in the same "bank" though, they're not separate. but unfortunately they don't keep your movies how they were the old iMovie, they give you bare clips. you have to make them again, unless you had effects, then you cant because of the obvious.

  • How can I get the special effects for my iMac?

I noticed one day while watching a You Tube video that someone had these neat special effects when they would click on something I could see a red (radar) circle like. Anyone know what I am talking about.

It's available in Photobooth, click on effects.
    Also available in iChat video
