Special font effect?

Hi
I'm a newbie to Illustrator. My friend did a special shadow effect using the non-professional program Microsoft Publisher. Here's a quick link I made to see a sample:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ddvbfm3w_1fg3sqqd3
In Microsoft Publisher, apparently there is a built-in filter called "apply rear shadow."
There must be an eay way to do this in Illustrator CS4 other than create two copies of the same word and skew one of them. Is there an easier way? Can anyone help?
Thanks.

There isn't a specific command or option for that kind of "floor" drop shadow. One can devise a number of realtively simple workarounds. Here's one:
1. Select the text object.
2. Appearance Palette flyout menu: Add New Fill. Select the fill listing.
3. Effect>Distort&Transform>FreeDistort. In the resulting dialog, move the the top two handles of the preview bounding box as desired.
4. Use the text object to define a Graphic Style, so you can repeat it on other objects with a single click.
Using that method, you can create the shadow as long or short as you want, and even add "perspective" foreshortening. You can also include other Effects in the Style, such as blurring.

Always bear these principles in mind when working in Illustrator:
Paths and text can have multiple stroks and/or fills.
Effects (including distortions) can be applied to objects
or individual strokes and/or fills that are assigned to those objects.

  • How to make a special 3D effect in a font

    Hello,
    I am trying to put a special 3D effect on a font. I don't know how describe it, thus here is a link where you can see it:
    http://www.die-bestien-live.de/
    I already know that the font is Agency FB. I don't care about the camouflage look or about the shadow. I'm just interested in the 3D effect. Can somebody tell me, how can I get this effect with Illustrator CS5?
    Thank you!
    Simon

    Simon,
    As I (mis)understand it, you may:
    1) Type>Create Outlines and Object> Ungroup;
    2) Select all letters and Object>Path>Offset Path by a negative amount so you get the right width of the bevels between the inner and outer lettershapes;
    3) Select the inner lettershapes, copy them, and hide the copies;
    4) Select everything, change from fill to stroke, and Object>Compound Path>Release;
    5) To rip the shapes apart, perform (the bare steps in the script/action James has made, see below):
    5a) Select>Object>Direction Handles;
    5b) Edit>Cut;
    5c) Delete;
    5d) Edit>Paste In Front;
    6) To create the bevels, combine pairs of corresponding inner and outer paths (which formed segments of the inner and outer lettershapes):
    6a) Select inner and outer path;
    6b) Object>Path>Join;
    6c) Select all and change from stroke to fill;
    7) Show the copies of the inner lettershape paths hidden in 3).
    Now you have all the parts as separate closed paths, and you can colour them as desired.
    There may be less silly ways.
    A full instruction and explanation of what is going on in 5) is in this post by James, in the first numbered instruction:

  • Special fonts don't show up in PDFs

    I created some free printables for teachers and homeschoolers a while back that use special fonts (wingdings).  The fonts are Open Source fonts from DaFont.com.  Some of the fonts are not showing up as they should.  They come up as plain letters instead of the wingdings.  I created the PDFs in InDesign CS5.  What can I do to fix this?
    Here's a link to the page with the printables I created:
    Before You Speak: THINK  Free Printables
    I'm having the most trouble with the wingdings below the word THINK not showing up properly.
    Thanks for your help.

    Is the fonts embeded when export to pdf?
    Also on acrobat check document properties>fonts
    If the fonts it's just on small area or line you can convert to outline (select text and from type menu>create outline).

  • How to use special font in an applet so that text can viewed in any browser

    I have created an applet in which I use text with special font I have installed in my PC. The applet is correctely executed with associated html file in my PC. I try to execute the files in another PC in witch the font is not installed. Text with the special font is not correctely viewed.
    can you help me how to do?
    thanks

    Both java.awt.Component and java.awt.Graphics have a method setFont(). You can set whatever font you want. However, if the user does not have that particular Font installed, whether the font is auto-installed for the user is browser and browser-setting dependent.

  • Symbol will not slowly fade in if using special font?

    I have a very basic .swf with some text that I've converted
    to symbols, and slowly fade in/out with a tween. This works great,
    until I was asked to use a special font (Frutiger) So, I have the
    font installed now. I created new symbols with the Frutiger font,
    but instead of slowly fading in now, the symbol loads very quickly.
    I can't figure out how to make a gradual/slow fade in. This problem
    only happens when I'm using Frutiger. If I pick Arial or some other
    basic font, I can get the symbol to slowly fade in/out. Any
    suggestions?
    When I watch the movie in Flash, it's fine, and slowly fades
    in/out. It's only when I try to view in IE.

    Somehow I had it as dynamic text instead of static!

  • Installing special font in one accessable location

    I have used spedific font within a report and now in order to put his report in production, I have to install this special fonts in every machine for the user to print. Is there any better way to install font in one location and be able to access them by any user? Any direction or suggestions would be of great help.

    Hi Zuber
    If you are using Reports 9i, you can use new features in PDF output to workaround this issue.
    Use Font Subsetting/Font Embedding features that comes with Reports 9i. If you generate PDF file using these features, Reports will embed the font file into the PDF file. Thus the PDF file becomes protable. Wherever you take this PDF file, you do not need to install the font in that machine as Acrobat can always retrieve the font file from within the PDF file itself to render the characters. Of course, you get the same output on the Printer as well.
    For more information on these features, refer Reports Help on OTN.

  • Custom Control relies on a special font - Include it with distribution?

    If you create a control that relies on a special font, does that font need to reside in the built application directory and/or <Windows/Fonts>?
    I have a control that looks like a 7-segemt LED, and it relies on a "LCD" font.
    Thanks,
    Richard
    Richard

    COOL, I didn't know NI had a font. Thanks,
    My original question concerns the need (or lack of) to include such a font on the distribution disk when you make an EXE?

  • Cloud Dreamweaver and Muse Special Fonts

    No. Muse and Dreamweaver are like oil and water. They don't mix.

  • How can ad a special font to website?

    Dear all,
    I want to incorporate a special font to embeded in my website how can i do?
    thanks
    Manoj

    For legal reasons, don't just assume you can use any font you wish on the web. Fonts are protected by intellectual property laws in much the same way that software is protected from unlawful copying, modifying or distributing.
    1. Obtain a free or open license web font from a Content Distribution Network (CDN) like Adobe TypeKit.com or Google Web Fonts
    They host a vast library of fonts licensed for web use on their protected servers so you don't have to.
    2. Use CSS @font-face rule and/or scripts to call the fonts into your web pages.
    3. Apply font to CSS selectors as you normally do with font-family property.
             h1 {
             font-family: "My Custom Font", "Times New Roman", serif;
             font-size: 55px;}
    4. Be sure to thoroughly test your custom web fonts in all browsers & devices with italic, oblique, bold, uppercase, lowercase, large & small sizes.  It's important to do a thorough preview to avoid unwanted suprises later.

  • Special font in program

    Hi
    In my program i using dymanic text with font 'Campfire'. But as usual users don't have this font on they own pc. And they dont see my font Campfire...
    How i can make then users will see Campfire too? Need write special code?(so it will be like user open my program and after this he must download this font? ) or how?
    Or maybe need write a way to .ttf ? and put this .ttf on same folder with .swf ? if  yes, how to write do it?
    Thanks.

    You can either embed the fonts directly in to your swf file by character embedding or creating a font in library panel option, or by embedding an external ttf file. For directly embedding characters, click "Embed Characters" in properties inspector and pick the characters you want to embed. Or you can create a font library asset by clicking the options button in library panel and picking "New Font" then in the "Font Symbol Properties" dialog box tick "Export for ActionScript" and pick a Class name say "foo" for example then use the following code to embed this foo font:
    var fooFont:foo = new foo();
    var mytxt:TextField = this["txt"]; //txt on stage
    var format:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
    format.font = fooFont.fontName;
    format.color = 0xFF0000;
    format.size = 16;
    mytxt.embedFonts = true;
    mytxt.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
    mytxt.antiAliasType = AntiAliasType.ADVANCED;
    mytxt.defaultTextFormat = format;
    mytxt.text = "Hello World!";
    The other option uses this notation in your code [Embed(source='FONT.TTF', fontName="Font", mimeType="application/x-font-truetype")]. You can read more about this option in http://mx.coldstorageonline.com/index.php?bid=48

  • Special java effects not showing up

    Going to my band's website thru Foxfire.. I installed some java that gives the effect of stars moving in the background.. It show up in other browsers but not Foxfire..

    That script isn't working in Firefox.<br />
    You can't have multiple IDs si and address them via si[i]<br />
    You need to use a similar construction as for Netscape and add the index to the ID (si0-siXX)and use document.getElementById('si'+i)
    I don't think that there are much users with a Netscape browser, so you can leave out all that ns code and use code that modern browsers understand.
    <pre><nowiki>for (i = 0; i < SmallStars; i++) {
    document.write('<div id="si'+i+'" style="position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:1px;height:1px;background:#fffff0;font-size:1px"></div>');
    function fly() {
    document.getElementById('li'+i).style.left = LargeXpos[i];
    document.getElementById('li'+i).style.top = LargeYpos[i] + hscrll;
    document.getElementById('si'+i).style.left = SmallXpos[i];
    document.getElementById('si'+i).style.top = SmallYpos[i]+hscrll;
    setTimeout('fly()', 10);
    }</nowiki></pre>

  • Photoshop Color correction and Special color Effects

    Can anybody pls tell me , how they create color corrections in movies like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings. and all the other special color themes they create different images...
    I use photoshop a lot but m a amateur to color correction thing .

    There are many applications, that can do CC (Color Correction, often referred to as Color Grading, or sometimes just Grading). Premiere Pro has many CC Effects, and these should be done on calibrated NTSC, or PAL, monitors, and not on the computer's monitors. One reason for this is that Premiere is not a Color Managed environment.
    Adobe After Effects also has many (actually quite a few more) CC Effects, and is often used for this purpose, even if one is not using it for its normal operation - compositing.
    Along with those, there are many 3rd party CC plug-ins, like Red Giant's Colorista.
    Once one gets past indie films, Hollywood would use workstations designed specifically for CC, with software not commonly available to the vast majority of the public. Again, the work will be done on constantly calibrated monitors, and by skilled technicians, who do nothing else, all day long. A good starting point would be the Black Magic Da Vinci system, but this really only gets one's foot in the door.
    To get a handle on CC for Video, I recommend The Arit and Technique of Digital Color Correction, Hullfish.
    Color Correction in Video is a subject, where popluar books will fill a large library.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
