Special Quicktime with "Patent" plug-in to be able to view photos & Documents @ US Patent Office

Hello all,
Problem:
I want to be able to go to the U.S. Patent office and look at their patent information, especially the diagrams.
However, I don't understand any of the information that I have added here from the U.S. Patent Office.
Also,it's impossible for me to figure out anything or where the downloas\d is for what the U.S. Patent Office is telling me at the Apple Quicktime site!
I need help to figure out how to do this:
Please keep the instructions very very simple, and in easy to understand steps!
The Information from the U.S. Pantet website:

Your System Requirements for Viewing Images
PTO's full-page images, nearly four terabytes overall, are stored and delivered at full 300 dots per inch (d.p.i.) resolution in an image file format called "TIFF," using CCITT Group 4 compression. This is the format which is required by the international standards to which all patent offices must conform. TIFF is also the most used lossless image format in the world. Unfortunately, due to the volume of the image data, available funding, and other technical considerations, PTO cannot convert these images to a format more popular on the Web either permanently or by converting on-the-fly as they are delivered.
As a result, you must install and use a browser plug-in -- similar to those required to access Adobe® PDF files, RealPlayer®, or Macromedia Flash® files -- on your workstation in order to view these files directly. An alternative method is to use third-party software or services to view these images either directly or after conversion to another format, such as Adobe® PDF.
The plug-in you use cannot be just any TIFF image plug-in. It must be able to specifically display TIFF files using ITU T.6 or CCITT Group 4 (G4) compression.
Before you write anything, please test out the U.S. Patent Office site with a search for a Hubley toy.
I write a blog on old antique toys, and thus my specific request, so I can download patent diagrams about toys.
Thanking everyone in advance,

You solved my problem, but I had another problem that I had to solve:
(I had no developer on my Safari top menuscreen)
Sorry! While I am not an "HTML" programmer, I do sometimes like (or need) to analyze web page coding in order to answer questions here. As a result, I tend to assume all Lion and Mountain Lion users keep the "Develop" menu option enabled by default. Basically, this menu combines a number of separate features and options found in older Safari apps into a single, unified menu option list that allows a user to view and trace what is going on when a user actually accesses a particular web page. Thus, it has become such an essential tool for me that I take it for granted that everyone uses it on a regular basis.
1. You used  Screenflow by Telestream for your video. Is that the same as Camtasia by Techsmith?
Both apps essentially serve the same purpose but use somewhat different GUIs and target different features which may appeal more to different specific users. My work flow is primarily oriented to the creation of quick responses to specific questions posed in this forum or by email from members of the local SJAUG (South Jersey Apple User Group), so I rarely take full advantage of all of the possible features or make professional looking tutorials and frequently just grab the first available app on hand whether it be QT X screen capture, Snaps Pro X, ScreenFlick, ScreenFlow, etc. that fulfills my immediate needs.
2. How easy is Screenflow to use and learn? I bought Camtasia based on SnagIt, an excellent screen-capture program (another Techsmith Product). However, I never use Camtasia - a video screen capture program as it's harder to learn that I thought!
Basic screen capture is about as easy as using the QT X built in screen capture routine. I normally just capture the entire screen and then, crop to size and shape of what I want to keep or need just before export. Use of the full list of editing features is more complicated and requires more planning. Difficulty of use for either app will likely be a matter of user "personal preference" and will probably reflect an individual's idea as to which feature work flows they considered more "naturally intuitive."
3. What exactly is Developer? You've opened up a whole new area of exploration for me!
As noted above, the "Develop" menu is simply a combining of several different features and window options (e.g., "View Source" and "Activity" window) in a single list of menu options selectable directly from the menu or from within the "Develop" window once opened. You can probably best think of it as a separate app or utility that allows you to closele examing and analyze the specifi web coding and content for the current URL at which Safari is looking. It has powerful features but they may take some time getting used to since they both simplify analysis and complicate matters by opening the door to so many new features and specific things you can do.
4. The problem with most software instructions, anything relating to computers, or even the instructions (what instructions!) on the US Patent Office to find a specific patent - is that writers don''t simplify things enough. Or,if a problem pops up (please see below), people, like myself have no idea what the the "error" or message from the program or software is saying.
As far as the patent web site goes, all they were telling you was that the content is available as TIFF images and that Mac platforms that have QT installed as an "add-on" (i.e., older systems) or embedded in the operating system (i.e., all current Mac systems) can view these TIFF images. Up until Lion, I had no problem viewing TIFF images directly in Safari. It is only the most recent operating systems that seem to require the "Develop" workaround to get the images to display in Safari. At first I thought this might be because TIFF is now considered a "lagacy" codec as far as video is concerned and, like all legacy video codecs is turned off by default... But this is a different can of worms and doesn't really seem to have any impact on the viewing of TIFF images.
4. Another "small problem arose"
As I was trying to add screen sapture photos to this reply, a problem arose.
The message below (first part) didn't make sense, since that's what I always did before.
Please add the image directly by clicking Insert Image (camera icon)
I had no idea what the second part of the message below was saying.
We cannot accept linked or embedded images.
I  intuitively figured out that I needed to take my photos (presented here) out of their folder, and place them on my desktop.
Actually, I believe these messages refer to the previous ability to display images in the forum by physically posting them to a server and then linking the posted image to the forum. I used to do this to get motion GIF images to display properly if posted directly to the forum from my computer. Will test to see if most recent canhes to forum now allow proper viewing of such content directly:
In any case, I'm not sure why they left this message embedded in the current forum software since the option to automatically link files in this manner has been removed (but may be still possible to add manually via user added HTML code).

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.

Recently my MacBookPro locked up on startup. Could not get past a certain point of progress bar. I had upgraded to Yosemite few weeks back, with no issues. I ended up doing a Recovery with Time Machine and I got all my apps, photos, documents, etc. back okay --- except I got error messages that my "registration for Photoshop (I use CS4 Extended) and Photo Mechanic are no longer working".  I worked on Photoshop first, and tried (several times) to fix it with their online help suggestions.  Nothing worked.
Is there a simpler way to "get my licenses/registrations back"???  I am also going to contact Camera Bits about the Photo Mechanic issues.   Thanks

Same problem and for months now. I haven't been able to find a solution, but I suspect that's because I don't know exactly what's wrong.

  • Problems rendering HD clips with MP2, and Quicktime with DVC50 compression.

I am using After Effects CS3 on Mac 10.5.8
Ok, so we got this fancy new Grass Vally clip player that takes a very small number of formats. I am trying to render HD clips that are between 10 and 14 seconds long with audio embedded.
One of the formats suggested is MP2.  When I try rendering an MP2 file the file extension comes out as .m2v
Also, the audio file is rendered as a separate .wav file.  The video looks fine and is of a very small file size, but I can't play it back with Quicktime Pro. I'm not sure if the clip player will play an m2v file but I know that the audio has to be embedded in the same clip. I've looked through all of the audio settings and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
One of the other formats it will take is Quicktime with DVCPRO50 codec.  I was able to render out some HD (1920 x 1080) files but the resolution looks like it is only about half what it should be. I've been through all of the settings that I can think of and can't see what is causing it.
I am pretty much at the end of my rope. I even called Grass Valley support and told them my problems. I just assumed that most of their customers would be creating animations with After Effects. The tech support guy wasn't even familiar with After Effects so I come to you guys for support.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Thanks, I will try the MPEG Streamclip.
I don't mean to imply that the tech support guy hadn't heard of After Effects but he had no real experience with it. I'm certain that this isn't the first time an After Effects user has called Grass Valley with this issue. I think their standard issue answer is "It's not our problem, call Adobe."  I've worked at four different television stations and at each one we have used AE to render movies to our clip player. I have no doubt that it's the industry standard for this kind of work so it kind of baffles me that Grass Valley has no idea how to make it work with their product.
When the Grass Valley installer came the first question I asked him was "What kind of file formats does it take?" He said he didn't know and to just start trying different things to see if they work. I pretty much told him that I didn't have time for trial and error and that it should be on page one of the manual. We eventually found the spec sheet buried somewhere in the appendix. When I called GV tech support he just rerferred me back to that sheet. Basically he's getting paid to read the manual to me but doesn't have any idea about how it actually applies to their product.

I thought my Mac Mail problems were over. But lately, Mac Mail is now quitting with the IMap plug-in. This started to happen yesterday.  Why is it still quitting with alternate plug-ins.  Here's my console report, like I did last time.

I started having many problems, including this one, as soon as I installed the 10.5.6 upgrade. Only one of my IMAP accounts is having problems (Gmail is fine so far), but the account is working ok when I access it via Thunderbird. I tried almost of the solutions posted above. I also installed the 10.5.6 Mail patch. All the fixes worked briefly, but after a couple days the problem returns. It must be a problem with my OS account because I can access the IMAP account via my laptop with no problems. That was the one fix you mentioned that I didnt try because I dont want to have update all the settings associated with the current user, and since I would have to restore everything, does it seem more reasonable to just do a clean install of the OS?
So my question is, do I give up on Mail on this machine? Or do I have to do something like a system wipe?
    Thanks

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

Just recently I am getting the following error message when trying to access web sites. I am using Firefox browser version 10.0.2. I get a pop up window stating "Exc in ev handl: TypeError: c.location is null" as the web site page is being displayed in browser winder. Then I have to click ok. • My iphone5 wont charge with usb port but works fine with wall plug... Infact computer. Doesn't recognizes the iphone

Battery not charging with usb port but works fine with wall plug.. So the prob is computer is not detecting the iphone5 . This problem started after upgrading to 6.1.3 version

Try to see what happens on another computer. If it works on another computer, the issue is not at the iPhone.

  • I updated the system on my I pad yesterday. Now I can not start my I pad. The screen is black, if I hold the button on the right side, first the Apple logo starts, than immediately the I-tunes Logo with a "Plug" sign comes up. That stays on for ever. What

I updated my I pad yesterday with the ISO 7.04 . Now it just has a black screen. When I hold the button on the right hand down for 10 seconds, I first very briefly get the Apple Logo, than immediately the I-Tunes sign with a plug sign. I cannot get anything else working. I did not have I-tunes on my i-pad since the file is large, but have it on my MAC . So how can I get my I-pad working again????

This solved all my problems. It took a while, about 87 minutes for the complete "restore to factory setting" and after that about 30 minutes to put all my contacts etc. back on.
It did'nt matter how long it took, I have my I-Pad back and that is great.
I really do appreciate your help. Thank you so much.

    Hi,
You could see if this helps...
DFU Mode / Unable to Update or Restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
    DFU Mode
Open iTunes and Connect the iPod to your Mac
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time
After 10 Seconds release the Sleep/Wake Button until iTunes tells you it has Detected an iPod in Recovery Mode...
The Phone Screen will remain Black... Now Restore.

  • Does Mountain Lion (10.8.4) come with SharePoint plug-ins, or did I just install these?

I did a custom installation of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac on my MacBook Air running 10.8.4., but I changed my mind and decided to uninstall it.
I only installed Word, Excel, and Proofing Tools (English only).
I'm reading up on how to fully remove all the tidbits Microsoft sprinkled about, and I noticed a couple files on my system:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/SharePointBrowserPlugin.plugin
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/SharePointWebKitPlugin.webplugin
I didn't include SharePoint in the installation, so I'm not sure that's where these files came from. It's a new machine, so the only alternative is that they were included with OS X 10.8.4, in which case I'm inclined to leave them be.
Does anybody know more about these files, where they likely came from?

AFAIK OS X 10.8.4 does not come with SharePoint plug-ins. Those are from Microsoft and are most likely added by SilverLight.
I am running OS X 10.10.1 and Office 14.4.6 and I do not have SilverLight installed... I do not have those two plug-ins you mention. Thus I don't believe Office for the Mac 2011 loaded them.
    Hope that helps

You are referring to a feature called Clamshell Mode, please read Clamshell Mode setup for instructions.
BTW when posting when you use generalities such as "have tried everything" this tells us nothing. When posting please be specific and try to paint a complete picture. It just makes things easier for those trying to help you.

  • MAKE EMBEDDED QUICKTIME WITH PLAY BUTTON IN FRAME

Hello does anyone know how to make an embed quicktime with a play button in the video frame so it has a poster frame and a button on it and wont play until it is clicked on

It's known as a poster movie. The first file acts as either a placeholder (or a button) that is linked to the second file.
You can use any image format to create your click to play "button" and add it to a single frame from your movie or to another image. Size this 16 pixels higher than your movie source file if you plan on showing the movie controller and save it as poster.mov.
Your html code will have this poster movie load and nothing further will happen until your visitor clicks on it. Once clicked the second .mov file will begin downloading and then playing. You can also use this poster movie technique to load a second movie directly in the QuickTime Player app.

One of mine. Take a look at the page source to understand the "href" and "target" tags.

It should work if you have a Symbol and Text Substitution set for hans't → hasn't. Are you sure you have this substitution checked, or Symbol and Text Substitution checked overall?
