Special Spanish Characters - What do i need?

I am using Photoshop 7 to create graphics for a training series that is being translated into Spanish. I am using FCP 6.03 on a G5. What do I need from Adobe in order to create the graphics in the Spanish language? i only have access to some of the special characters of the language using the Spanish keyboard - I can show a list of the characters, but how do I use the unicode IDs of the characters in Photoshop to display the special characters? I can get the upside down ? and !, and the n with the tilde; the accented vowels are not part of the keyboard combinations.

• I can't type text with special Spanish characters (Captivate 6)

Hi there,
I've just downloaded Adobe Captivate 6 to try it out and found that I can't type some special characters widely used in Spanish language: our accents or tildes (that's the Spanish word for them). That's what I can't type:
Á or á
É or é
Í or í
Ó or ó
Ú or ú
I've checked the fonts on my font manager, but that's not the problem. They're fine.
I've also tried to paste some text with these characters from Firefox and it worked fine. You can see it on the image:
So I guess it must be some annoying bug.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Iñaki

Hi Lilybri,
I still have this problem with the accents in AC and I've just found that problem comes from the double-type characters (like the accents in Spanish).
http://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/kb/double-byte-characters-cannot-input.html
BTW, I got no answer from Adobe and i'ts been more than 2 months since I registered the bug...
Best regards!

• As of 2 weeks ago, buttons on some sites have a small box beside then with 2 alpha and 2 numeric characters - what do I need to change?

I have checked my settings and plug-ins and cannot correct it. My Firefox on my work laptop doesn't get these, and neither does Internet Explorer. I'm thinking its a Java thing, but not sure. It's obviously to do with the button (action button). Any suggestions?
Site example: http://weather.gc.ca/radar/index_e.html?id=WHK
All animation buttons are these little character boxes rather than "play", "pause", etc.
I can send a picture if you need one. Won't let me paste it into this box.
Thanks,
Peter Spettigue

I looked at the radar, but didn't see any problem.

• Embedding Spanish characters

Hey, I'm building a bi-lingual tool (english and spanish)
that uses all dynamic text fields. Problem: special Spanish
characters are being dropped, even though I have specified them
within the fields' embed-character sets.
The piece is built as such: all copy is stored as nodes on
two data objects – one english, one spanish. Texts are then
populated into the dynamic text fields from the active language's
object. I have specified
"ÁáÉéÍíÓóÚúÜüÑñ¡¿"
as characters to embed. However, the special characters are
displaying incorrectly (or not at all). For example: "Español"
displays as "Espaol". I also ran into a scenario where the "í"
gylph (as in "Sí") displays as a copyright symbol (©).
If anyone has any insight on this, I'd GREATLY appreciate
it.

How comes the text into the movies? If it's loaded from a
textfile, make sure it's saved in UTF-8/Unicode format. In xml
files, you can include this also in the xml header, like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
but it's more important that the text is saved in the right
format, then Flash should display it right.
Here's more on that:
http://www.adobe.com/support/flash/languages/flashlocalization/.

• Cannot display some spanish characters

I have in my main mxml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
so the special spanish characters are showed ok.
But in a class, when i show a ToolTip the spanish characters
aren't showed correctly.
(ñÑáéíóú) -> propably you'll
don't see it in your browser.
results.push(new ValidationResult(true, null, "NaN", "La
longitud mínima es de "+this.minLength+" carácteres."));
Thanks in advance

Hey user562511 ,
can u give me ur email cause i am buliding the same application Arabic/English & i want to ask u some thing about it.

• Using special characters (Spanish characters) in Activities name

Hi everyone,
?:| Does anyone knows if I need to do any extra configuration in my Operating System/Data Base if I'm using special characters (accents) in activities/transitions name. Is there any problem using these type of characters?
Thanks a lot.

in ALBPM 5.7 you don't need any specific setup to use spanish characters, since we store all information as NVARCHARS.
In Studio, we store projects files in UTF-8, so no problem either.

• Importing WORD document with special regional characters in RoboHelp X5

Hello,
i have a problem, when im importing a *.doc document. The
document is written in slovene and it contains special regional
characters. Here is the deal:
I was using RoboHelp 4.0 before and i had this same problem.
What i did was, when i added a new topic (imported *.doc file) into
existing project and the WebHelp was generated, in the web browser
i clicked the last added topic and opened a source code, where i
changed the charset from 1252 to 1250. That enabled the special
characters to be viewed correctly. When i imported some additional
topics and generated the WebHelp again, the program somehow "saved"
the 1250 setting in the previous topics and the characters were
correctly shown. I had to adjust 1250 only in the new topics, that
were added before the last generate.
When i try to do the same in RoboHelp X5, this doesnt work.
Program doesnt "remember" the 1250 setting and it always generates
with 1252 character setting. Which is a problem, because there are
a lot of topics and i would have to change the character setting
for every topic/doc document i added.
What can i do ?
Thanks in advance

• Support for English and Spanish Characters

I have created a database with character set WE8iso8859P1. Some of my tables that I imported from MS Access Database using ODBC contain English as well as Spanish characters. When I select the same from the database I just get ? for the non-English characters. What should I do to see the Spanish characters as well?

In the timeline, next to the audio (on the left) is a small drop down box which lets you set the language for the track. You'll see 'En' in both of them at the moment, and you need to change the Spanish one to be for Spanish. You should then be able to complete the build.

• EPMA dimension import issue with spanish characters

We are using special characters for spanish words, like the word Español.
When this was imported into EPMA using the Import Profile and importing a flat file, EPMA added the alias member as espan then showed a square box and then the l. Then, when deploying the app, no errors recorded in EPMA but planning showed errors since SQL query could not deal with this strange character (the square box symbol) in its query. When I manually change the member in the dimension library to Español, then the app deploys. So my relational database clearly accepts the characters.
So, the problem is in the Import of the text file when it has the special character ñ or other spanish characters with the accent marks or tildes. Is there something I need to do when importing a file with this character or other spanish language special characters?
Thanks
using V11.1.1.3 EPMA with weblogic

• Problem with spanish characters

Hello
I am using an existing and proven app written in visual foxpro with a recently installed Oracle11g database (have done this before without problems)
I am using Microsoft ODBC for Oracle and have no possibility of changing this. (always used this without problems)
If I insert a string in in a fixed length char field of the same length of the string (say char(30)) IF THE STRING DOES NOT HAVE SPECIAL CHARACTERS, everything goes as usual. However, if the string contains some spanish language chars (ó, é, á, ñ) the insert fails indicating that the string is too long. I suspect "somewhere" this characters are encoded in double-byte instead of single-byte.
My question is, which is the Oracle setting that allows/prevents this? I need special characters encoded in 1 byte. Language is Spanish.
Some settings that the Oracle DBA passed to me are
NLS_CHARACTERSET = AL32UTF8
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET= AL16UTF16
Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

In the database character set AL23UTF8 (NLS_CHARACTERSET=AL23UTF8), accented Spanish characters occupy 2 bytes each. This cannot be changed.
Two possible solutions:
-- recreate the database using the character set WE8MSWIN1252
-- redefine the column from CHAR(30), which usually by default means CHAR(30 BYTE), to CHAR(30 CHAR). This means no more than 30 characters but up to 120 bytes (in AL32UTF8).
If you run your application with NLS_LANG=.WE8MSWIN1252 and you do not use byte-oriented SQL functions such as SUBSTRB, INSTRB, or LENGTHB, you will most probably see no functional difference between single-byte storage and multibyte storage of Spanish characters. On the client side, these characters will be single-byte.

• Spanish Characters in CFMX

Hello all, my web host has moved us to a Windows 2003 server
running CFMX from a Windows 2000 with CF5. In both cases the
database used for content was MySQL 4.1.5.
Now here's the thing, in the old 2000/CF5 server combination,
all Spanish Characters like í, é, ó, á etc
would display correctly across the site. We have a bilingual site.
As soon as we were moved to the new 2003/CFMX combination server,
we are getting garbage instead of the correct characters everywhere
and it's driving me off the walls trying to figure out what can be
done as the web host clearly doesn't.
Suggestions?

They have just replied telling me the only way to solve the
problem, which seems to be working is to add the following code to
the beginning of any template displaying Spanish characters. I will
go for that for now and keep checking if a simpler solution is on
the way or already exists. Thanks folks:
Here's their letter:
This is an issue that is inherent with Colfussion MX 7, and
one issue that Coldfussion has not created an easy fix for. So far
the only way we have been able to do it is, instead of using the
"SetLocale" function we used a direct character "cfset SetEncoding"
command to format the text with a Latin ISO number.
Basically, on any pages where you need Spanish characters
displayed you must put this code in the beginning of the page:
<see code below>
This tells the page to execute the code in Spanish
format.

• HTML + using spanish characters

Hi
If this is a dumb question - forgive me.
Note this is for a site that will be in English & Spansih
(translated pages
in Spanish)
But if I want to include spanish characters on a site do I
need to replace
each spanish character with ascii code or is there another
way to get the
characters to display
e.g.
resúmenes - do i have to enter it into the html as
resúmenes
also
When I view the pages on my pc the spanish characters display
correctly.
Once the pages are uploaded the spanish characters do not
display - why
would this happen?

While it is iffy as to whether or not it will work with Windows 8, even if you had a full version you would not be able to install it. You need to acquire a special version of it along with the serial number for it. See the following:

• What do i need to completely fix my ipad?

Guys,
Let's be honest: As much as I love Steve Jobs and his company as a whole, why is it so difficult to fix these devices? I mean yes it is a cool piece of technology but it has its flaws that, when dropped or otherwise broken, FAR outweigh the benefits of such technology. Cracked screen? No problem! Just throw it out and spend another $450! As "green" as Apple is, it allows no room for human error; I mean gravity is truly an archenemy here. I obviously had no idea what I was doing when I attempted to replace the glass with a home repair kit and since it was out of warranty, I figured "what do I have to lose?" ABSOLUTELY no one will take it once you have opened the device. And for good reason. The glass itself is held in place by some unique glue which I could not duplicate, and the glass effectively holds all the other very-fragile plastic micro-components in place as well. After my "repair" attempt, the Home button AND the volume control just stopped working; yep, just like that. To top it all off, the finishing step that holds it ALL together is some kind of black polymer that must be heated for application. There is no way to duplicate that either. With regard to trade-in policies worldwide, no company (save the scammers) will take your iPad AND offer you some kind of rebate to hopefully help buy a new one once the screen has been cracked or after you have cracked the case. And it's useless to me.
BOTTOM LINE: If you're like me a month ago and are thinking that you can make your expensive mistake right again with self-repair, DON'T! I am a proficient repair technician in my own right but all I did is cause more problems and heartache. There is no practicality in this technology and anyone in these forums who disagrees, simply have not tried a repair themselves (or its denial).
So my penultimate question is this: What do I need to add to my shop (however many hundreds or thousands of dollars required) so that I am prepared to better serve those with similar damages and myself? What kind of glue? What temperatures are required? How do you steady the internal components as you re-lay the glass? Are there special tools? How do you re-seal the iPad? Are there diagnostics that can be done before the case is sealed back up? You see Apple? This is why people are so frustrated with these lines of products. Even with the vast internet and all its glory, even with excellent Apple support and service (up to the point that your warranty covers your device [and if you got your iPad as a Christmas bonus and so have no such coverage and never did]), the answers are just not there. It is paramount to trade secrets and presented like a foreign car; flashy, fun and impossible to work on.
Best to just suffer through it like Bill Hader on that one commercial, bandages, wincing, blood and all. MAKE SENSE AMERICA!
