Special symbols locked, weird start up screen.

I have a weird problem with my macbook air. I was browsing the web when i think i hit a wrong keyboard combination. I was trying to select text cmd+a. But a small white window popped up with some text. After that safari started acting weird. Whenever i tried to open a new link it did not simply open the link like usual. But it downloaded it into my download folder. I allso noticed that i could only type special symbols.
So i tried to reboot my macbook air. Usualy it boots right to the login screen. But now it first shows a startup screen where i can select a bootdevice. So i select macintosh HD and it boots up like normal. But i can still only type weird symbols so i cant login.
What is the problem? First i thought maybe my alt key is stuck but it works just fine and i did not do anything with it.
Sorry for my bad English i am from holland.
please help

Hi Mautaz,
I have a similar problem and now I am using an external keyboard to run my Macbook Air.  I simply cannot get out of this.  I noticed nobody helped you out so far.  Did it work?
Kindly update me as I am in the same mess!

Thanks for your isn't seven one
I took it into Logosystem in Greenwich where it would seem o be in intensive care awaiting a possible firmware download.
    The story so far.
Following a download of Mavericks into my iMac 24"circa 2007 I tried to et up an iCloud net work involving five Apple devices but unfortunately made a cup but try as I might could not get out of it.
In desperation I tried Command S and this threw up a large black padlock log in the middle of the screen.
At this point I recognised my limitations and deferred to Apple Bluewater.
They did a few checks and advised that a serious layer of security had been installed and because m Mac was six year
old I would have t refer to a Premium Service Provider to have firmware and the administrators password reset.
Any thought on how I managed to lay down this layer of security.

  • Weird Start Up Screen

Hi. Ok, got an oldish imac, and for last 2 years it's been useless, finally decided to look into repairing it.
Used to have the good old blue screen of death, and wouldn't run in safe mode. A friend installed his version of OS snow leopard on it, and we can run it in safe mode fine, and now once it gets past the start up screen, we get a white screen, with a sort of check board line running down the middle...
    Snapped this.
We want the kids to have the machine.
    Help please!!!

This looks like a logic board problem, specifically a bad GPU. I don't know what to say, you'll need to find an Apple Certified Service Provider to have them check it out.

  • PLEASE HELP: Weird Start Up Screens

    I have a powerbook G4 that I bought about 2 years ago.
It's running on OS X and just like 2 days ago it suddenly started to lag A LOT. I first noticed after noticing this with my itunes, with songs pausing and resuming very erratically.
But the main problem is the slow startup that I have been experiencing. I don't even get the APPLE logo without getting:
    1. A blue background with a globe in a square icon that flashes.
    2. Then a Finder logo in a folder icon...
    3. Then a folder with a question mark in it...
THEN, I finally get the APPLE logo and it gives me the login screen which loads really slow as well.
This is the first major problem I've had with my powerbook, and I'm really just a newbie MAC user. I've tried using onyx, but it just made the startup process longer.
    PLEASE HELP.

what if it doesn't recognize your hard disk? the same thing happened to mine and i was told to run a disk repair, so i did. it worked for a while but crashed again. i've had my computer for a little over a year. i did it again- it didn't recognize the hard disk so i did other things like hold down shift- that didn't work. i held down the option key- didn't recognize. i opened the disk utility and it was miraculously there. so i ran a disk repair again. it worked for a day and then crashed again and now this time, it has the world icon. i tried over and over all those things but the macintosh hd icon hasn't come up at all in the disk utility. why isn't it being recognized and if i go in and try to fix my computer, will everything erase or will i be able to save my files?

  • Xperia Z3 Compact camera error when starting from locked screen (symbol lock)

    Hi
I'm a new owner of Xperia Z3 Compact and I have noticed a problem when launching camera. The app itself works perfectly well but when trying to launch camera from locked phone (screen locked with symbol) it shows only black screen with error message that camera app it unaccessible. After removing lock screen protection both camera symbol on lock screen and dedicated camera button works as intended. Is it supposed to be that way? On my previous phone I could launch camera app without unlocking screen but couldn't access any other parts of the phone. I'd love to have it working the same way here especially with the dedicated camera button.
    Hoping for a fast answer.

You may need to perform a software repair using PC Companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.
Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).
Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

  • How do I lock in a reduced screen size, so whenever FF starts, the reduced screen size appears?

How do I "lock in" a reduced screen size (that I made by dragging the screen edges) so that whenever I start FF the reduced screen size always appears?

Make sure that you do not start Firefox maximized.
You can check that in the Properties of the (desktop) shortcut.
Firefox should reopen with the window size with which it was closed the previous time.

  • Satellite Pro 6000 locks up and the screen has weird random pattern

    Hi
I recently bought a SP6000 second hand advertised as having "graphics problems". After 10 minutes or so use the laptop locks up and the screen has a weird random pattern all acorss it. The speakers also make a strange buzzing sound. i have to shut down the laptop and reboot.
I updated the bios and the videocard drivers from the toshiba site but it is still doing it. Can anyone help?

You need to make sure that you have a very steady hand and you have a .4mm soldering tip. The joins are very close and surface mounted, one slip of your hand and you can end up soldering 3 or 4 of the connections together and then spend 30 minutes trying to desolder them.
Just like the page said, use a dental pick, or a small plastic pin and see if you can move any of the pins around. I must warn you though, the more you press down and flex the laptop to turn it on the more damage you have probably done to the pins, you may end up with about 8 of them disconnected from the board. Dont use a high wattage soldering iron either...10 to 15watt iron should do the trick. Tin the tip, let it heat up and tap the join between the board and the pin for 1 or 2 seconds and it should do the trick. Easy way to know is you should have a nice shiny bead of solder connecting the pin to the board. If you have that then it has taken. if you see only a dull grey colour then it hasnt taken and is a "dry" solder joint.
One thing you should do before soldering, take some non abrasive rubbing alcohol, dip a cotton swab and rub all along the joins in the top and bottom. Solder oxidises after time...if you dont take the oxidisation off your more than likely to suffer from dry joints. The pins on the right of the connector (front of the laptop facing you" will probably be the ones which have came loose...check them first on the top and bottom of the connector.

  • Crash/lock when use special symbol palette in iDVD 6

I tried to use the special symbol palette to try to insert special language characters in the comments on a picture in a slide show. On choosing special symbols from the menu line (Edit) all seemed to be fine until I tried to choose another category of symbol from the palette.
At that point the symbol palette goes blank or only part of the information is visible and I can not close or move it. Often iDVD also locks and I have to force the application to quit.
After that, the blank symbol palette keeps popping open (then closing) when working with other applications. Cold restarts do not cure the problem. Only solution I have found to stop the annoying pop up of the palette is to delete the file in user preference (com.apple.CharPaletteServer.plist)
I try to do the same operation again with the same results. Do not know if this is a new problem or long standing since I had never used the palette before with iDVD. I can clear the created problem with the hanging palette, but the palette is esentially unusable. Character palette seems to be ok when using it from the international keyboard menu.
(The reason to try to use the palette was I could not paste names in a language that do not use Mac's standard diacriticals. Why is there no font menu choice or ability to paste a name from another application that has font menus?)

Wow-totally missed that-sorry. I guess i assumed that you didn't do that because that is about the only thing that I know of to fix it.
I guess you could try Validating fonts

  • Photoshop CS (ver 8) locks up at start up screen.

Computer is about 6 month old running Vista. Installed and used program without a problem for last 6 months now it begins to load at the start up screen and then freezes. Task manager says "not responding." Re-booted several times however locks up at the same point near the end of the start-up screen load. Any help would be appreciated.

Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.
(CS is not supported on Vista.)
