Specific size for Open as Layers in Photoshop

Using Export/Edit In/Open as Layers in Photoshop, is it possible to set a specific image size so that all files open the same size?
This would be great as I only need small files to make a collage out of many files both small and very large ones.

Not possible at present, but you should submit a feature request http://forums.adobe.com/community/lightroom/lightroom_feature_requests?view=discussions

  • FEATURE REQUEST: Preserve Transparency of Files when Opening As Layers in Photoshop

I am a digital scrapbooker and I have begun using Lightroom to organize my digital scrapbooking supplies.  A file format that is very common in digital scrapbooking is PNG format.  However, PNG is not setup to accept metadata so part of my workflow is converting the PNG files to PSD files to retain the transparency and adding the ability to add metadata.
This works very well for me - when I want to scrapbook, I can search for my supplies by color, etc. and then choose Edit In, etc.  The biggest drawback is that I can't do Edit In > Open As Layers in Photoshop without losing the transparency in the PSD (formerly PNG file).  The transparency is retained when I choose Edit In> Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5 > Edit Original.
So if you all could do something to preserve the original and still open it as layers in Photoshop, that would be wonderful!

Another request that goes along with this one - is allowing transparent files to retain their transparency in the Print Module.  I am building storyboards and would love to be able to add a transparent TIF or PSD file on top of photos before printing.
    Thanks!

  • Open as layers in Photoshop does not apply adjustments

I adjust two images in LR4 then select the images, right click, choose Edit In->Open as Layers in Photoshop.  The images open and stack as requested but no Lightroom adjustments are applied to either image.Single images opened for Photoshop give the choice to "Render using Lightroom" , "Open Anyway" or "Cancel".  Images opened as layers only give the "Open Anyway" or "Cancel" Choices.
    Is this behavior expected?

It's because there isn't a fully compatible version of ACR yet.  Once the final release comes out and you update to a compatible ACR version, it'll work.  At the moment ACR doesn't know what to do with the new settings.

  • Set specific size for JTextfield/Jbutton in BorderLayout?

can some one tell me how to set a specific size for JTextfield/JButton in Border/BoxLayout please?
I stried setSize, setPrefersize, setMAxsize, setMinsize, setBounds... but it won't work?
For example. If I add a jbutton to a jpanel, which has borderlayout, it will take up ALL the space in that jpanel.
    Thanks

Typically you use a BorderLayout for the high level layout and then add panels using other layouts to the BorderLayout. So for example on a simple dialog that is using a form that asks your for your first name and last name you would build a panel with those fields and add that panel to the center of the BorderLayout. Then you would create another panel for the "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons which would typically use a FlowLayout. Then you add that panel to the South of the BorderLayout.

  • Photo - Edit in - Open as Layers in Photoshop

Photo -> Edit in -> Merge to Panorama in Photoshop
Photo -> Edit in -> HDR Pro in Photoshop
Photo -> Edit in -> Open as Layers in Photoshop
are all dimmed.  How do you un dim them??

Those 3 options need more than one image selected to become active.

  • Open multiple PDFs in Photoshop at specific size for use with Actions

I am having a bit of a roadblock with batch Automate in Photoshop. I'd like to open multiple PDFs at 630p x 630p, 72 dpi in greyscale. I have 2000 files to do this on. If files are already open, the rest of my action works, does a few things, then saves for web as PNG. It is just the open which is not working. It tries to give all files the same filename. Taking the filename out of the Action is not an option. Scan of msg boards say that this feature stopped working around CS3. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

Open opens images the same size and resolution they are saved. If you want the images to be a particular size you need to do that in the action.
If you download my crafting actions package.  You will find the there are over a dozen scripts I wrote to be used with in action.  One is a plugin script that would be particularly helpful to you to do the resize you want to do.  The first three steps would be Step 1 menu File>Automate>AspectRatioSelection....  You would set in a 1 to  1   Aspect ratio. Centered, rectangle. replace, selection and 0 feather. In its dialog.  Those settings will be recorded into the Actions step. Step 2 menu Image Crop. that will make you image square. Step 3 menu File>Automate>Fit Image...  In the Fit image dialog you would set 630 in the width and height fields.  These settings will be recorded into the actions step.    When the action is played no dialog will be displayed. The recorded settings will be used.

I am using LR 5, and CS6 in Windows 7.
PS starts to open the frames as layers, then once it gets to the last one, all of the layer disappear.  HELP!!

Open as layers only works for Photoshop.
There is a plugin available Elemental - Integrating Photoshop Elements with Lightroom that will include that functionality for Elements.

  • Set custom default window size for opening Preview?

I'm using a terminal-based text editor, and when I compile LaTeX files, I have a script to open the compiled pdf in Preview. The trouble is that Preview opens in the same default dimensions every time, which covers up other applications I have open.
It's not a huge deal, but it would be nice to have Preview open flushed right and as half the width of the screen every time. Since I'm opening and closing it so often, moving it and resizing it every time gets really annoying.
I realize this isn't a built-in option for Preview, but is there any way of doing it using Terminal or otherwise? I've googled around and haven't found any satisfactory answers yet.
    Thanks!

    Hi zazi,
Each window opened takes the size of the previous window opened.
Its possible to zoom in and out as well [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/font-size-and-zoom-increase-size-of-web-pages]
    Also see:

You can look at this extension to adjust the font size for the user interface.

  • Why isn't JPG an option for opening an image in Photoshop?

When Photoshop is chosen as the external editor, you only have a choice of TIFF or PSD as the file format. So when I wanted to make a small change to a 3 MB jpeg image in Photoshop, it came back into Aperture as a 40 MB alternate master file. This is crazy! I can't afford enough disk space for 40 MB files every time I want to modify an image in Photoshop! Am I missing something here?

The idea at work here is that Aperture is a non-destructive editor, and that you don't degrade your image quality until the final export. If you go to JPEG mid process and then make more edits then do a final export as JPEG, you're degrading your images twice... Pretty much any type of editing will occur at a higher quality in PSD or TIFF than in JPEG, even if you can't always notice it.
If you don't want to dedicate the disk space to those versions permanently, all you have to do is sort your project by file size within Aperture after you've done your final export, then delete the TIFFs/PSDs, which will naturally float to the top. If you put a lot of work in them, burning a DVD of them before losing them would be a good idea.
This is really "best practices," and as such Aperture is doing the right thing.

  • Specific size for Rounded Rectangle tool

Is there a way to specify dimensions for the Rounded Rectangle tool like there is for the Rectangular Marquee tool?  I love to draw my boxes with radii already on them (saves time), but I'm forever going too fast and either stopping short or going past the size that I want.  If I could punch in the numbers I want, then I know it would be right -- and hopefully faster.

    Sweet!
It's funny how you can use something pretty much everyday and still not realize that there are short cuts.  This will save soo much time.
    Many thanks

  • Open as Smart Object as Layers in Photoshop?

I apologize if this has been addressed already, but I am looking for a way to open Smart Objects as LAYERS.  I do compositing work and would like to retain as much information as possible by using Smart Objects PRIOR to going into Photoshop.  My current workflow is to highlight the photos in Lightroom CC > Open as Smart Object in Photoshop CC > Manually Drag layers from each open file in Photoshop to main PSD.
Edit - Opening as Layers in Photoshop then applying the Camera Raw Filter is not a good work around, information is lost.

    davepinminn wrote:
I must still be doing something wrong here..............
You have the wrong expectation—namely because you don't grasp the concept. A smart object is not a linked file.  It's a new file all on its own (in PSB format) with no connection to the original file at all.
    davepinminn wrote:
…I can open my raw (.dng) into Photoshop as a smart object.  And in PS, I can open the smart object into ACR.  Works fine.  And I can change stuff.  For example, if I change the exposure from -.25 to +.20, it changes perfectly in PS, as I'd expect.  But, I'm still not getting the changes back to the original raw (.dng) file…
There is no reason why the changes made to a Smart Object oject should be refleftef to a totally unrelated file.
    davepinminn wrote:
…Do I need to do something different to get the changes back to the original file…
Yes. you have to go back to that original file and apply the changes directly to it.  In a previous post, Jeff Schewe told you of a shortcut to achieve that:
    Jeff Schewe wrote:
When you are in the Camera Raw SO with ACR open, go to the main flyout menu and select Export settings to XMP. This will write the new image settings from the SO to the xmp metadata. Then in Lightroom, select Read metadata from file in the main Metadata menu. That will bring in all the settings of the raw SO back into Lightroom. So, while not automatic, it's not as bad as writing down the settings and entering them by hand.

  • OEM Apple nVidia GeForce 7300 GT is on Adobe's list of unsupported GPUs for Open GL rendering-

My Mac Pro's Radeon X1900 XT is retired to my computer grave yard, in my basement, but going back to the OEM Apple nVidia GeForce 7300 GT, which shipped with my Mac Pro, brought some encouraging results.
When I first got the 2007 Mac Pro, in 2009, I was running it in Mac OS 10.4.4.11 Tiger and Photoshop CS4 (11.0.0) would disable Open GL rendering when it detected the stock nVidia GeForce 7300 GT card, which was on Adobe's list of unsupported graphics GPUs.   So, I purchased a refurbished Apple Radeon X1900 XT.  This card allowed Photoshop CS4 and Bridge CS4 to enable Open GL Rendering.  Over the last year, the Radeon X1900 XT graphics card has been creating stripes on my screen when it is running hot and sometimes the dual displays would just shut off while I was working.  Also, the computer was doing hardware freezes about once a day.   This morning the Mac Pro shut down it's dual displays, while I was working, and I had to do another cold shut off in order to restart.  I then manually shut the computer down and did a manual boot-up so that Snow Leopard would employ disk maintenance.
I shut the computer off and pulled the Radeon X1900 XT card and re-inserted the OEM Apple nVidia GeForce 7300 GT card.  Now I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard with Photoshop CS4 (11.0.2) instead of Photoshop CS4 (11.0.0).
Now, the updated Photoshop CS4, under the newer OS, is enabling Open GL rendering instead of disabling it. This graphics card's hardware limitation is now fixed, so I see no reason to buy the ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit for my Mac Pro:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/6615718/
Some who have purchased the Apple  ATI Radeon HD 5770 say they still got the striping on their display when the Radeon HD 5770 card was running hot,  just like with the Radeon X1900 XT.
So far, the OEM Apple nVidia GeForce 7300 GT is working fine and I'm not getting any striping on my displays with no display shut-offs or hardware freezes.
I'm glad to have Adobe's Open GL rendering enabled with an OEM graphics GPU that runs cool and requires no imbedded cooling fan.  Apples OEM nVidia GeForce 7300 GT, for the Mac Pro, is on Adobe's list of unsupported GPUs for Open GL rendering under Photoshop CS4, so why is it supported now?  Is that just one of the benefits of the Photoshop CS4 11.0.2 update?

Chirs, thanks for your info but you are talking about Photoshop CS5, which does not support OpenGL drawing on the Mac nVidia 7300 or the Mac Radeon X1900.  As long as I am using Photoshop CS4 and have not yet upgraded to CS5, I can continue to use the Mac nVidia 7300 and get limited OpenGL drawing support from Photoshop.  And it is working fine.
Today I found out that Adobe has updated their OpenGL support information and apparemntly when I upgraded my Mac from Tiger to Leopard, and later, I gained Photoshop's Open GL support for the Apple nVidia GeForce 7300 GT:
    Supported video cards (Mac OS)
Intel-based Macintosh, tested on Mac OS X 10.4.11 and 10.5.4
    17-inch iMac x1600, 128 MB
    ATI HD 2600, 256 MB
    MacBook Air intel GMA X3100
    Nvidia Quadrofx 4500, 512 MB
    Radeon x1900, 512 MB
Intel-based Macintosh, tested on Mac OS X 10.5.4 only
    8800 GT, 512 MB
    iMac 8800 GS, 512 MB
    Nvidia 8600M, 256 MB
The following Power PC cards work in Photoshop CS4: Nvidia 7800 (256 MB), Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT, and the Nvidia Quadro FX 4500.
Note: OpenGL is enabled for the GeForce 7300GT, but Advanced Drawing and 3D Acceleration are disabled.
So, when I upgrade to Photoshop CS5, I will need to replace my video card with something compatible with Photoshop CS5s OpenGL drawing engine.  Do you think the ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit, for my Mac Pro, will get Photoshop CS5 to make OpenGL drawing availible and active?
I appriciate an Adobe employee, like yourself, providing the information I need to make the right hardware choices when upgrading to Adobe CS5.
