Specifics for Guidelines for Disk Usage

Using PPro CS4. Over a year ago I set up my four hard drives to follow the Guidelines found on this forum. I'm using four 7200rpm hard drives. Each is one terabite. Two are SATA and two are eSATA.   However, there are some things that are not specifically mentioned and/or my technical understanding and vocabulary is limited.
1. What's the difference in Media Cache Files and Media cache database ? Should I make separate folders on one hard drive for each or should I select both of these to go to the same folder?
2. Which hard drive should select to be my scratch disc?
3. Finally, how do I select the Pagefile to be sure it goes to a specific drive?
4. Where do I find "Previews" to direct them to the proper drive??

I'm following this guide as shown:   C: OS, Programs
                                                       D: Media, Projects
                                                       E: Pagefile, Media Cache
                                                       F: Previews, Exports

I'd recommend changing to the following setup for best speed.
C: OS/Programs
D: Projects/Cache/Scratch (Previews)
E: Media
F: Exports
Let Windows manage the page file. You gain nothing by moving it, and can lose big time if you don't set it correctly.
Also, you can leave the Database where PP puts it. The files are very small.

I will probably have 3 + 1 HDD or 2 + 1:
- 1 SSD
- 2 (or 1) HDD 7200rpm
- 1 external HDD MyBook Studio II 2TB in RAID0 but I can configure it in RAID1 1TB (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=210)
How do you recommend to manage work on that configuration?

Here's why Harm chose the external for media cache:
The sequential transfer speed of that external, when connected via eSATA, is faster than any single hard drive - if the external is configured as RAID 0. However, any other interface will seriously limit the performance of that external; for example, the next-dastest interface after eSATA, FW800, has a maximum sustainable (practical) transfer rate of only about 75 MB/s - slower than most if not all single disks. Hence, Harm recommended RAID 1 with that external when used with a Mac since no Mac has eSATA capability at all. Forget about using FW400 or USB with that external; that drive connected via USB (which is limited in that drive to the USB 2.0 standard) can only sustain 25 to 30 MB/s while FW400 performance (in the case of most pre-assembled external hard drive kuts) is even slower (due to the fact that most FW400-to-SATA translators used in external drive enclosures suck).

Also, how do we create a file system partition (volume ) in Z/OS

ZfD and ZfS on same server? Centralized monitoring of disk usage? ZfS 6.5 or 7?

We have ZfD running on one server for approx. 600 users (Sybase db on
NetWare 6.5).
We use it for; WS registration, WS Inventory, Application Mgmt, NAL
database, Imaging)
I have a mixture of Microsoft Windows and Novell NetWare servers.
Approximately:
30 Microsoft Windows servers (2000 and 2003)
10 Novell NetWare servers (NW 5.1 SP7 and NW 6.5 SP3)
Q1: Is it feasable to have the ZfS backend running on the same server that
hosts the ZfD backend ?
We are trying to find a way to monitor all server for disk usage. Ideally
we want to get a view/report of all servers (regardless of Novell or
Microsoft) to see where each disk is at with regards to available space and
also see historical trends for disk usage.
Q2: Can ZfS do this for us? We are licensed to use it but so far we've
only implemented the ZfD 6.5.2 and are quite please with the results.
Q3: Also, since we are licensed to use the latest ZfD and ZfS, any reason
to implement ZfS 7 instead of ZfS 6.5? We know that ZfD 7 is pretty much
the same as ZfD 6.5.2 so we've decided to hold back on this upgrade. If we
move forward with ZfS, I'm guessing that sticking with same version being
used with ZfD is a good idea?

Yes, it's very workable with both ZFD and ZFS on the same box. ZFS can
monitor any of these features. It uses SNMP to do this on both netware and
windows.

Yes, although ZFS7 subscribers can run on XP, but I don't think 6.5 can.
In a way, zfd and zfs are very separate and the patches do not have to
match, but if you can keep it the same, than do. :)

MDW - Error Executing Disk Usage Collector

I'm encountering an error with the MDW on a SQL Server 2012 instance. I've successfully configured the MDW database to go to the local instance and have set up the Data Collectors. However, the Data Collector for Disk Usage errors, specifically when running
the "Disk Usage - Log Files" step with the following message:

I've tried searching the web to see if anyone else has encountered this error when using MDW but have drawn a blank.
The "Disk Usage - Data Files" step executes successfully and the Data Collectors for Query Statistics and Server Activity also are successful.
I'm running the following version of SQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.

SQL Server Agent is configured to use a domain account which is a member of the Local Administrator group on the server. I've also tried configuring the MDW account to use this same domain account and given it sysadmin permissions within the SQL Server instance.

MDW Disk Usage for Database Report Error - A data source has not been supplied for the data source DS_TraceEvents

Hello,
On the MDW Disk Usage Collection Set report, I get the following error when I click on a database hyperlink.
A data source has not been supplied for the data source DS_TraceEvents
SQL profiler shows the following SQL statements are executed (I've replaced the database name with databaseX)

this returns zero rows as databaseX does not exist on my MDW central server, but is a database on a target server (i.e. one that is being monitored and uploaded into the MDW central server).
2. USE [datatbaseX]
this produces the following error:
Msg 911, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Database 'databaseX' does not exist. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
why is the report looking for the database on my server?

Environment: MDW (Management Data Warehouse) on SQL 2008 R2

Hi Jag,
Based on my test, while this database is offline, we will encounter this issue. This is because that while we click the certain database in “Disk Usage Collection
Set” report, it will query some information with that certain database. If this database is offline, we will not access this database to acquire related information and generates this error.
Therefore I recommend that you check the status of this database by using this system view:
sys.databases. If it is not online, please execute
the following statements in a new window to make this database to be online:
USE master
GO
ALTER DATABASE <database name> SET ONLINE
GO

VSOM Not Showing Disk Usage for Media Servers

I wanted to try and figure out why my Operations Manager is not synchronizing the disk usage of the media servers storage partition. Currently I am running a fully virtualized environment on a Cisco UCS-B series chassis with version VSM 7.5.1 (Redhat 6.4) on my Operations Manager and all of the media servers.
As shown in the image below I am providing an example of the disk usage that shows for one of my media servers in the Operations Manager
Below is the an image of the disk usage shown through CLI of the same server.
As you can see there is a major discrepancy between the 37MB Used(Operations Manager) and the 4.8TB Used(CLI).
Has anyone ran into a similar issue and found a resolution, or know of the scripts on the Operations Manager or the media servers that are responsible for the sychronization of this information.

How do I calculate disk usage for a table

Is there a formula or equation that I can use to calculate disk usage (in MB) for a table?
I would like to foind out what's the best option for initial storage space and monthly growth.

2.     27 blocks are totally empty
3.     5 blocks contains data(BLOCKS+EMPTY_BLOCKS = SUM i.e 5+27=32)
4.     We have an average of about 8064 bytes = 7.8 free on each block used (8064/1024=7.8K From above AVG_SPACE value).
Therefore our table
1.     Consumes 5 blocks
2.     In this 5blocks * 8k blocksize - 5 blocks * 7.8K free = 1k is used for inserted data.

Difference between Available and Used in Info for MacIntosh HD and Space Free and Space Utilised under Activity Monitor, Disk Usage?

I have a MacBook Air 2010, upgraded to OSX Version 10.8.4. When I click the Macintosh HD and then look under Info, it says I have 120.47GB capacity, Available 60.97GB, Used 59.5GB. However when I look under Activity Monitor, Disk Usage it says Space Utilised 92.18GB, Space free: 28.29GB. Questions:
Why the difference?
Which is more important for computer speed?
How to I reduce "Space Utlised" to closer to "Used"? (I've already moved 25GB of the more bulky, less immediate data to external storage from the computer, including emptying IPhoto Trash and the main Trash. The Space Utilised dropped only from 95GB to 92GB--while the Used space dropped from 85GB to 60GB.)

Just to let you I tried the reindexing before the Mendes advice and it had no effect. Of course, I may have done it wrong. It was the HD icon from the desktop which I dragged into the Privacy window of Spotlight (and then did the +, OK, - and close Spotlight). Should I have dragged in something else? Or opened up the HD and dragged in all the contents?
Also, there is a small section in my HD which is for my wife's account which has a separate user name and password, although it has no data in it and I set it up while under my administrator account original, so my MacAir may think I still "own" it; in any case, I did not get any sort of error message saying I did not have ownership of the entire HD.

How can I reduce the size of "Others" in iTunes' information bar for iPhone usage at the bottom of the "General"-screen?

When I open iTunes and attach my iPhone to the PC, click on "iPhone" and then on "Overall-view" (the leftmost Item at the top bar, "Übersicht" in German), I see on the bar at the bottom of the screen from left to right: "Audio - Fotos - Apps - Documents/Data - Others - Free". “Other” space has several sources. Some ways of removing unneeded files from it can be found in this article -
iOS: "Not enough free space" alert when trying to sync

Specifically -
Orphaned files may remain on your iOS device if it is physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, the Capacity indicator in iTunes may report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device. To resolve this issue:
Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 5.
Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device. To do this:
Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 6.
Restore using iTunes.

Check your regional S&T pages for specifics. Generally commercial usage is allowed during school and after graduating, but in some regions extra restrictions may apply if e.g. your software is subsidized by your government or the license owned by the school and you just "loaned" it.

Need Disk 2 for10.4.2 got stuck asking for disk 2

I purchased a used Imac G5 with 10.5 on it. I need 10.4 for a billing program I use. The Imac G5 install disk 1 came with the G5. I started the install and got 3/4 done, then it asks for disk 2. Bad news? No disk 2. The previous owner said he never used the disk and there is only the one I have.
Whenever I boot the computer, it turns on and asks for Disc 2. Is there any way to get in and take off the 10.4 update I did? That way I can go back to running 10.5 [I have no disk for 10.5 it was just loaded on the machine]. I can boot the computer using my external drive that has 10.4.11 on it. Any help is much appreciated.
I had to purchase this G5 because my Imac G4 15 flat panel was dealt a double power surge on Monday and died. Luckily Mac folks able to make a complete copy of the contents on the hard drive.

You can call Apple Customer Relations 800-767-2775 and they will send you the install discs for a small fee.
Do call them and have the serial # handy. But someone a couple of weeks ago, reported that Apple said they didn't have any more. (It was for iMac PPC (2005 I think). So if you get some Post back.
One thing you can try with the one disk, is before the install starts, click on the custom button, and uncheck as much as possible. When it ask for #2, I think its looking for applications to install and maybe X11. Good luck

I am using IPhone 3GS -32 GB. I am using service of Vodafone, Mumbai. & when i first time sent 35 SMS (having habit of Nokia to send group SMS at the click of one button) my IPhone sent 35 MMS.
