Specifying paper size
I use Photoshop Elements 11. In printing panoramas I need to specify paper size. At the end of the paper size drop-down menu there is "User Defined". The matter seems to stop there. Setting the image size, "Custom", precisely has no effect upon the paper size.
As I was fiddling today, I chanced upon a drop-down menu which allows one to set the paper size to .01 cm. Try as I may, I cannot find the paper size menu again! Can anyone please tell me how to do it?
When you see Custom it means it will pick up the custom paper size you set in the printer driver settings. To get to these, via the Print dialog, in Printer Settings click 'Change Settings' then in the next dialog 'Advanced Settings'.
In the Print dialog Paper Size is item 3. If you cannot see it try changing the printer to something else, and then back again.
Cheers,
Neale

Dull colors on specified paper sizes
I have an HP Photosmart printer D7260. I use only HP premium plus photo paper. when I print photos from my pc using borderless 4x6 or borderless 5x7 paper, the colors are dull and dark; however when i print the very same photos onto 8x11 1/2 paper, they print perfectly. I make sure page set up in the printer is set to mate the size of the paper that I'm using. This has never happened before. Since the photo colors are perfect on the 8x11 1/2 paper, I don't know what the problem is when I'm using the smaller sized paper. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

How do I print multiple PDFs AND fit them to my paper size?
Hi,
I'm using a 24 inch wide plotter with roll paper. I want to be able to print multiple PDFs AND fit them to a specified paper size. I can print one page and fit it to the paper, but I can't do it with multiple PDFs.
For example, I have two PDFs that are only 8x8 inches. I want to print them side by side on a 24 inch x 12 inch page size and fit them to size and then FIT them to the page size so the end result will be 2 PDFs printing at 12 x 12 side by side.
I can't seem to be able to do this. I'm sure I was able to do this using earlier versions. As it is, I have to print one at a time and waste half of my roll paper size.
Any help?

This happens when I try to print a web page using firefox. When I copy and paste the same yrl into safari and select that page in Safari it prints without a problem.
Hello Bhumika2 ,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some printing issues with paper sizes.
Seeing that the operating system is 10.5, the printer is not supported on this version. I suggest that you check for apple updates and see if anything is available.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
Thanks for your time.

Booklet .pdf with crop marks, booklet doesn't fit the current paper size warning
Hello. I am on XP using CS4 InDesign.
I have the document set up as 4 pages, each 8.5 x 11, however, when creating a booklet .pdf, I mean it to be 2 pages 11x17.
When I add in the crop marks they do not appear on the .pdf when it is created. I receive a warning in the booklet diaglog that the booklet doesn't fit the current paper size and it says to specify a larger paper size.
What can I do to have the crop marks on my file? I understand the .pdf will be a little larger than 11x17 in order to fit the crop marks.
Thanks for any help in advance.Hi Peter,
Thank you. I did try that first, but now I figured out what I did wrong. When the .pdf was made and opened, I cropoped the page according to the marks, but the page remained 12 x 18 instead of 11x17. I made sure that the "automatically adjust to fit marks and bleeds" and "use document bleed settings" was checked in the booklet dialog and print InDesign dialog.
When I cropped the page again to make sure I sized it correctly, it was 11x17.
Thank you!!! -
Hi,
when I convert an Excel file with A4 format (8,27 x 11,69 inches), the PDF creates Letter format (8,50 x 11,00 inches). I have changed the format in Adobe preferences to A4.
This only happens in Excel not in Word.
I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and Office 2007
ThanksHi,
I had this same problem with my Acrobat 8 and yes, it's a bug in the Acrobat software.
After speaking on the phone to Adobe tech support, the issue came down to Acrobat ignoring user specified page/paper sizes in the PDF printer/PDFMaker/Acrobat Office plugin job options, and using the default "Adobe PDF Page Size" setting in the Adobe PDF printer preferences.
Check your default Adobe PDF printer settings (under Printers & Faxes --> Printing Preferences) and make sure the default page size is "A4" and NOT "Letter"
It's a bit of a hassle if you need to print/convert anything other than A4, as you'll have to change the default size each time.
Maybe Adobe will address this "bug" in a future update.
Hope this helps. -
Can't duplex print B4 paper size with Snow Leopard and HP8100N
Apple print drivers dumped the standard European paper size B4 (see ISO 216 for specs) many OS's ago, however, I was able to duplex print B4, which is a standard size for the HP8100 trays, using the HP Duplexing accessory, by specifying a 'custom' paper size (10.14 x 14.33). Now, with Snow Leopard and the 10.6.4 and the updated HP8100 print driver from Apple, I get the message "The Duplex Option, Flip on Short Edge" is not available when the destination paper is set to Custom."
It seems the easiest solution would be for Apple to bring back the B4 paper size--I don't know why they eliminated it. The next solution would be for Apple or HP (whoever is responisble for the print driver) to back up to whatever allowed duplexing of custom sizes in all recent OS's up to Snow Leopard.
I have thousands of pages of music to print and manual duplexing just isn't an option. Anybody have any work-around ideas?try converting your cmyk doocument to rgb and then print

Help with Java Printing-Custom paper sizes
Hi,
I'm trying to print documents with custom paper sizes out of java.
I can print fine when I don't try to set the MediaSize to a custom size or when I use already named constants like: "MediaSizeName.JIS_B4"
The error message I get is this:
java.lang.ClassCastException
at javax.print.attribute.AttributeSetUtilities.verifyAttributeValue(Unknown Source)
at javax.print.attribute.HashAttributeSet.add(Unknown Source)
at hello.Printy.printDocument(Printy.java:103)
at hello.Printy.main(Printy.java:135)
The offending line(103) looks like this:
pras.add(new MediaSize(1,10,MediaSize.INCH ));The function that its from looks like this:
public void printDocument()
try
System.out.println("input file name is");
System.out.println(inputFileName);
PrintRequestAttributeSet pras = new HashPrintRequestAttributeSet();
DocFlavor flavor = DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE;
PrintService printService[] = PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(flavor, pras);
PrintService defaultService = PrintServiceLookup.lookupDefaultPrintService();
PrintService printPrintService = null;
// didn't work pras.add(new MediaSize(1,10,MediaSize.INCH) );
PrintService service = ServiceUI.printDialog(null, 200, 200,printService, defaultService, flavor, pras);
if (service != null)
System.out.println("There is a service aunty-may!!");
DocPrintJob job = service.createPrintJob();
FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(getInputFileName());
DocAttributeSet das = new HashDocAttributeSet();
//pras.add(new MediaSize((float)3.25, (float)4.75, Size2DSyntax.INCH ) );
// - works
//pras.add(MediaSizeName.JIS_B4);
pras.add(new MediaSize(1,10,MediaSize.INCH ));
//pras.add(new MediaSize(1,10,MediaSize.INCH) );
System.out.println("Doc has been set to custom size");
Doc doc = new SimpleDoc(fis, flavor, null);
job.print(doc, pras);
System.out.println("any doc for you?");
catch (Exception e)
e.printStackTrace();
}Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to java but I've programmed a bunch in c++.Hmm ... no real help, but I found this note in the API:
MediaSize is not yet used to specify media. Its current role is as a mapping for named
media (see MediaSizeName). Clients can use the mapping method
MediaSize.getMediaSizeForName(MediaSizeName) to find the physical dimensions of
the MediaSizeName instances enumerated in this API. This is useful for clients which
need this information to format & paginate printing. -
Aperture won't let me specify paper type
I am running Aperture 2.1.4 with OS 10.6.2.
When I try to print to either my Canon MP460 or my Canon Pixma iP4000 I have no option to select media type.
Under "Printer Selection" in the appropriate portion of the print dialog window I can select between the two printers, set paper size, orientation, Color Sync profile black point compensation, etc. The "calibrate" button is darkened.
When I click "print settings" (beneath the printer name), a drop down appears with only the following options: cover page, scheduler, or summary. Nothing else.
If I click "print", the file is sent right to the printer. Nowhere am I asked to specify the paper type.
If I recall correctly, most programs provide for a variety of printer-specific options before sending a file to the printer. When I print from iPhoto, there are many options, including a drop down menu to specify which Canon paper I am using (and options for color management, etc.)
I have noticed a similar issue when printing from Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, but I figured this was an Adobe quirk. Now I'm thinking there might be a problem with the Canon printer drivers or OS X.
Please . . . any help is greatly, greatly appreciated. My prints look awful and I think it might be because the printer and computer have no idea what paper is being used.OK, I found my problem; I hope this helps any others that find this thread and are having this problem...
My Canon IP4300 printer was connected by USB to a PowerMac G5 and was being shared via Bonjour over my wireless network to my MBP. When I connected the printer to the MBP directly, it now shows it's using the latest Canon drivers (10.26.1.0) and the print dialogue box setting options (incl. paper type) have re-appeared. Problem solved.
The PowerMac G5 is running Leopard and using older Canon drivers (5.8.3). Apparently, using Bonjour printer sharing, the print drivers in use are controlled solely by the remote host machine, so the print drivers installed on the local SL machine were irrelevant, yet the print dialogue is controlled by the local OS.
Too bad SL won't run on my old trusty G5 -
Default paper size scanning problem, LaserJet M1120n MFP
Hi, I just got a used LaserJet M1120n MFP. Installed the most up-to-date drivers form HP's website. Printing is fine over USB or LAN, however the WIA scanning driver defaults to paper size "Letter" and I can't scan A4 pages all the way. The bottom is always cut off and I get an unwanted strip besides the scanned document. Please, advise how to change the default paper size of the WIA driver to A4. I use Windows XP Pro. Looked everywhere but cannot find any settings that will allow me to change the default paper size. Any ideas?
I have been thinking, could default paper size be somehow be tied to system locale? My locale is European and all other device drivers do default to A4. I wonder how the WIA scanning driver chose to default to Letter size.
The TWAIN driver works fine (I can choose default paper size), though it is less intuitive than I expected. Too bad I can't use it over a LAN. Is there a way to calibrate the scanner for white as the background seems kind of dark?
Your suggestions and ideas are most appreciated. Thank you.Thanks for the reply, Spencer. I have used Adobe Acrobat to scan by means of the WIA driver, but when I do so the paper size selection box is dimmed (inactive) and I can't choose any paper size (nor any is preselected). I have also used Win XP's native Scanner and Camera Wizzard; it doesn't even have a paper size setting. Then I have used it with Win 7's native Windows Fax and Scan; no paper size setting here either.
Here is a useful thread on the same issue from Adobe's forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/844549
Reading around the forums I came across several posts where people discussed the impossibiity to set paper size when scanning using the WIA driver. Their problem was a bit different, though. The WIA driver had locked to size 'Legal' while they needed to scan in size 'Letter'.
The WIA interface was developed by Microsoft and here is what they have to say about the issue:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff548440%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
'Supported Scanner Paper Sizes
Although two WIA user interface components are able to display a list of page sizes to the user, there is no easy way for a WIA driver to know which page sizes a scanner supports.
Page Size in WIA Applications
There are no WIA properties that allow WIA drivers to report supported page sizes or that allow applications to specify page size directly. To communicate page size settings to a driver, an application must calculate the required size in dots per inch (dpi) and adjust the origin of the scan to conform with the registration requirements of the device.
Page Size in the Common Scanner Dialog and in the Scanner and Camera Wizard
Both the Common Scanner Dialog and the Scanner and Camera Wizard have a static table of supported page sizes in which each page size is described by its horizontal width and vertical height, both in increments of 0.001 inch. These page sizes are currently displayed only when the scanner is in document feeder mode.
The largest page size (by area) that a driver supports in page feed mode, as determined by the maximum bed size, is considered the default page size. Paper sizes that do not fit on the feeder or on the bed of the device are not offered to the user.' -- exactly my case!
Having tried the same WIA driver (developed by HP in this case) on several PC's running different WIndows OS and using non-US locale settings, I have came to the conclusion that HP may have hard coded the Letter paper size in the driver. I guess this works for North America but not in Europe where A4 is the standard size.
I guess I have to look into ways to get to that hard coded paper size setting in order to be able to make use of the driver. I don't even know if that will be possible but I'll keep on reading. Wish me luck -

How do I set the paper size to 11 x 14 (standard photo size) on the Prixma Pro 100?
I have not been able to set the paper sixe to 11 x 14 on the Prixma Pro 100. What is the trick to making it a custom size? Why wasn't a standard photo size included in the selectable sizes?
It is easy to do, if not a little wasteful. Just select 11 x 17 or 13 x 19 paper size in the page set up. Then Light Room, or PS, will let you specify 11 x 14. You will need to trim the paper after it is printed.

HP Laserjet M401A could not set different paper size and tray on printer properties
Good morning all. I'm experiencing a issue setting custom paper size and tray in this printer properties. I would like to set up three different printers, on the same port, to print directly on a specific tray (without enter the printer properties and select the proper tray and size). I have this printer with the additional third tray. I have set up A4 in tray 1 (bypass), custom size in tray 2 and 3 on the printer. When i enter the printer PROPERTIES i want to set up set custom paper size in tray 2 and 3. No way.The only sizes i can see is 13x8, a4, a5, letter, legal, and so on (there are maybe 7 choices). So i choose NOT SPECIFIED. When i go on printer PREFERENCES, i can set up my custom paper size.But when i choose my custom paper size, the tray 2 and 3 go away and i can only choose bypass or tray 1.If i set up A5 (for example) the tray 2 and 3 re-appear. How is it possible? where i am wrong? Many thanks, any help would be appreciated.Cheers,Luca.
I have done extensive research online and looked for relevant posts in other forums, plus I downloaded a LaserJet 4L service manual. The verdict: A common cause of this no-power problem is a faulty DC controller board, blown fuse(s) on it, or other circuitry glitch. I am sure that the paper tray is inserted correctly.
So I decided to cut my losses (I'm not inclined to pull the printer apart to try to fix it--it's not worth my time) and tossed the printer. It's not cost-effective or time-effective to spend a lot of money or time to resuscitate old hardware, except perhaps as a learning exercise.
I consider this thread now closed. -
HP LaserJet MFP M476dw paper size mismatch when copying or scanning from ADF
We have HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dw that has an issue when copying or scanning from the ADF.
Put a single A4 sheet in the ADF and choose copy, with all settings correct & no resizing, and the output copy is moved down the page (increased top marging by a couple of inches).
My initial thoughts were a paper size issue (e.g. treating A4 as Letter or vice versa) but all settings look correct. I have even done a reset and started over and the problem remains.
If I take the original and place it on the flatbed and copy from there with all the same settings then it works fine.
There is a similar issue when scanning from the ADF. Again, scanning from the flatbed works fine.
I've tried all I can think of. Does anyone have any further suggestions? Could it be a fault in the ADF?

HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter & custom paper sizes
Have found all the helpful instructions about creating new custom paper sizes in Windows 7. But am complete novice & need to buy a printer for a charity. Settled on this model because of good reviews but most work will be 1 document of custom paper size. Need to know if the instructions given are fail-proof!! (Before i spend their money.)
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hello invqn,
after having performed some detailed research, as well as installing the Pro 8100 (and other products) on a Windows 7 system, we determined the Pro 8100 doesn't support Custom Sizes: that was by design and intent.
Note that one of our engineer's proposed using a different set of drivers (from an older device) as a potential work-around, but this is unproven and may serve to limit your overall functionality of the device.
However, we did confirm that a newer device that is currently out, the HP Officejet Pro 8610 (or 8620 or 8630) e-All-in-One, DOES support custom sizes; these are multi-function printers.
Using the instructions in the link you sent, you can create new Forms with custom sizes and it will show up in the Printer Properties for you to use/select. It supports custom sizes from 3.00 x 5.00 in. to 8.50 x 14.00 in.
Our intent is only to provide information on what we know; you might take a moment and perhaps see if an HP Marketing representative might be able to give you more information, but that's what we have.
