Speck case messed up my macbook! covered in tiny scratches!

Basically I have had the speck case that I specifically brought from apple for about 7 months now. The bottom of my laptop is covered in tiny scratches that look like dots and some are also on the top. I was wondering if apple could do anything about this or if I can do anything about this.
It's a total shame as this isn't some random cheap case, it's the official one from apple!!!

Thats to be expected, grime gets caught there and it sandpapers your macbook between the speck case and the bottom panel of the macbook
its not Apples fault at all, there is nothing Apple can do other than you paying for a replacement bottom cover.
Its one of those live and learn things.
Apple store sells it, its not an Apple product.
They also trap in heat, as Ive said before, theyre only a good idea in theory.

    No, a Late 2007 Macbook is 1.08" H x 12.78" W x 8.92" D, the 2011 (Actually Mid 2010) is 1.08" H x 13" W x 9.12" D

  • Does the new Haswell Processor Macbook (2013) fit old Speck cases?

Does the old Speck cases fit the new macbooks? Just want to make sure before i end up ordering one.

The cases however do not fit snugly on the body of the 13in model as it is 1mm thinner. You wouldn't think it would make that big of a difference but it is incredibly annoying when you purchase something that is ment to be SNUG.

  • Macbook Pro Newbie - Speck Case

    Hi all,
Just purchased a spanking brand new Apple Macbook Pro 13" 2.5 GHz today. Woo, I'm so happy!!!
    Several questions:
    1. I want to get a protective case. I've seen and heard about the Speck brand. Incidentally, I went to their site and strangely enough, there seems to be a warning that the ones they are selling on their site currently does not fit Macs that were purchased after June 8th, 2009??? What gives? Being confused, I called them and spoke to a rep. who told me that the one's on their website are not for machines that were purchased after 6/8 as stated but that the Apple store might have the latest version. Why would the manufacturer themselves not have to product available for purchase but an Apple store would??? I'm kinda hesitant to go to the Apple store now. Which leads to my second question.
    2. What version of the Macbook Pro do I have? I know I purchased the 13" 2.5 GHz system but is there another version with some modifications that recently came out is about to? If so, how can I check?
Pertaining to question 1, does anyone know of any cons to the speck cases? Do the hard shell cases scratch the aluminum body in any way?
What other hard case can people recommend for my MBP?
Thanks all. Apple makes technlogy fun!!! Go Apple Go!!!

Some of the ports were re-arranged on the latest MacBook Pro update (6-8-09,) therefore Speck had to re-design the cases.. I asked to be notified when the new cases arrived and received the following email several days ago:

  • Speck Case for Macbook

    Hello to all,
I was wondering if anybody is familiar with the Speck Case for the Macbook . I was thinking of getting one but I would like to know if anybody has one and let me know what do you think.
    Thanks

Hey you guys. I have the red Speck case on my C2D BlackBook. Let me tell you, it looks great!!! I haven't put any pics up but you can see how it looks on Amazon or ebay. There are absolutely no isseus. I use a notebook fan to keep my notebook cool and the vents on the case make for good cooling. The only issue I have is that I bought a maccase brand sleeve, which is my favorite type of sleeve that I used for my ibook, and the MacBook won't fit in that sleeve with the Speck case on. So I use the Incase that you find at the Apple store. The Speck case makes the MacBook look very unique and it also provides great scratch protection. I take the Speck case off every now and then, just to see how my MacBook is doing underneath and it looks the way I bought it a month ago. I definitely recommend it.

my macbook pro 2009, was stored in a Speck case and rubbermaid stoage tote that was left in a RV over the winter in WI that sat outside all winter. Is it ruined? will I be able to still use it and all my data? I don't currently have it with me. I am just hoping that when I get it back it will work for me. Any tips, help, support would be helpful! Thank you!

Storage temperature is listed as down to -13º F
Line voltage: 100V to 240V AC
    Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz
    Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
    Storage temperature: -13° to 113° F (-24° to 45° C)
Relative humidity: 0% to 90% noncondensing
    Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet
    Maximum storage altitude: 15,000 feet
    Maximum shipping altitude: 35,000 feet
So I would think you're OK . The battery will need a charge but I don;t see any reason why there should be a problem as long as there was no water involved.

  • Charging Macbook in Speck case - is there a problem?

    Hi all,
I've just got my new Macbook and a Speck SeeThru case for protection. Just wanted to check whether anyone knew if there was any problem (danger) in charging the macbook while in the case. I thought I remember one comment saying not to charge in a Spek case, and Apple says not to charge the iPod nano in a protective case. However, I can't find anything about it on here or in the Apple support. Does anybody have any experience?
    Thanks,
    Dana

I have a MB and MB Pro, both of which have Speck cases. I have not had any issues with charging them. My only complaint, albeit minor, is that sometimes dust gets under the case and you can see it.
Speck case is well ventilated and provides good access to all the ports.

  • Booq Vyper M3 sleeve + Speck case = Good protection for a MacBook Pro?

I just love my Booq Vyper M3 sleeve. It is the best sleeve that I ever had.
Anyway, I want to know if anyone has put a Speck case on their Macbook Pro and then put that into the Vyper sleeve. If so, how is the fit?
    Thanks for any thoughts.

  • Transparent Hard Case For 15 inch MacBook Pro

OMG this is so cool, im going to get one for my other lap top :D!
    http://gavilan1010.wordpress.com/2006/10/14/transparent-hard-case-for-15-inch-ma cbook-pro-2/

    Hi Everyone,
I am one of the engineers at Speck involved in designing and launching the MacBook See Thru Case. Thank you for your interest and feedback regarding this product. However, after reading through this discussion page, I feel it is necessary to dispel some misconceptions about this case. We are a case company that has been designing, engineering and selling cases for years. I'm not sure which Agent 18 case (great cases by the way) is being referred to in the previous thread, but without knowing the exact case, I am assuming there are inherent differences in the mounting system used. Specifically the following:
    1. The "Sandpaper effect" occurs when two surfaces rub against each other. In the example with the ipod case, I believe (and because I don’t know which case it is, I can be wrong) that the scratching was a result of the ipod sliding into the case, or sleeve. Typically hard PC cases have tight tolerances, which leave a minimal amount of clearance. Because of this, the ipod is more likely to be scratched when inserted into the case. However, unlike the ipod case example, the Macbook case clips onto the MacBook. Instead of a sliding motion, the MacBook See Thru is a snap on and lift off system. Also, because the See Thru is clipped onto the Macook, it is a static system, thus no surfaces would be moving against each other.
    2. More importantly, we designed the MacBook See Thru with small spacers that keep a minimal distance between the surface of the See Thru and the MacBook. This means that unlike the Ipod case that sits against the surface of the Ipod, the MacBook See Thru maintains uniform clearance.
Lastly, from a consumer standpoint, and user of many, many different CE devices, I am always hesitant to use adhesive films on my products. In my experience, they tend to leave a residue, which is sometimes difficult to get off, and makes your device have a higher affinity for dirt. This is not to say that all films are created equal (because there are some companies that have engineered them not to leave as much of a residue). Also, films tend to scratch and rip easier. Please remember that there may be some bias in my comments (being a Speck engineer that has been so involved in this project), so take them at your own discretion. But don't take my word for it, go out to the Apple Store and check them out for yourself. I think you won't be disappointed.

  • Looking for a case for my new Macbook Pro 13'' 2011

    Any help would be great!
I am looking for a case for my new MacBook Pro 13'' 2011. I went to the Speck website where there are plenty of nice cases to choose from, except I am a little worried that it wont fit the MBP properly. The new MBP 13'' has the same dimensions as the older model but I am mostly worried about the power mag not properly plugging into the side of the MBP.
Have you guys heard of anyone having problems with their L-shaped power mags not fully fitting onto the macbook pro?
I like the Speck brand very much on my MBP 15'' because I haven't had any problems with it.

Speck casing is good and will fit EXACTLY what your MBP is.

  • Last ipod touch update messed up my album covers

The last Ipod touch update has messed up my album covers of songs I transfered from CD. a long time ago after purchasing my ipod I learnt how I could change the artwork from a boring musical note to the respected album covers the songs came from and this method no longer works.
Although I should share that method which was to basically click on the first song on the album (for example "Come Together" on Abbey Road) and then hold ctrl and hit the last song on the album (in Abbey Road case it is "Her Majesty") thus highlighting the all the songs on the album and then changing the artwork there. As stated this method no longer works, I've tryed about 3 times and although it fixed a few songs (about 6 out of the 150ish that were altered back to default after the update).
Is there anyway to change it because I have a mild OCD that makes me want to see the artwork upon it changing songs as I use my ipod on a daily basis.
Other infomation that may assist in answers:
-The album artwork does indeed show on the album list screen, just not on most songs upon playing them
-All the songs that the album artwork altered during the update were purchased by other means to Itunes and then transfered to itunes. (CDs in this particular case)
-There all albums apart of the Beatles Box Set that I was luckily gifted at christmas.
-The Ipod touch, I believe its the latest one, it has the two cameras on it, not sure I don't follow up with the "improved" versions of Apple products
-My itunes is running on a PC (masterrace) not Mac.
Thank you if you answered responsibily, and if you responded like a tool then I dislike you.

  • Speck case causes loud fan noise?

I have a speck case for my macbook pro and I couldn't help but notice that the fan makes a loud noise after using my laptop for long periods of time. The other day I removed the case and noticed that the fan no longer made noise. Does this mean that the case is bad for ventilation? Should I keep it removed?

Does this mean that the case is bad for ventilation? Should I keep it removed?
Yes and yes. The effect depends on the variant of the MacBook Pro you have. Pre-Uni-Body (2006 to Early 2008) used the bottom of the case as a heat sink. When I had my 2012 Uni-Body 13-inch MBP open to add RAM, it did not apper it was as reliant on the case bottom for cooling as the pre-UniBody models.
It looks like coolng air in drawn in through the keyboard, so anything over the keys could reduce airflow.
All MBPs exhaust the heated air from the hinge area in the rear edge, so it is critical to keep that area clear.

  • 11" Speck case, Clear plastic or Black satin?

Im planning on buying a Speck case, but cant deicide if the Clear Case or Black Satin case is better.
I like the clear case, due to it not taking away the MBA looks, but the black case also looks nice, with the apple logo showing though the case when its on.
Im trying to get peoples views on each case and hopefully this will help me make up my mind

I have the black satin and I like it better than the clear case.  The satin has a definite nice feel on it.  The clear case feels like a cheap plastic case.  The clear case is also easier to scratch and you can see the difference over a few weeks.
Visit your nearest (macbook) accessory store or apple store and you should be able to compare the two.

  • Speck Cases with Sleeves

    Hi all!
I just bought my first Mac (I'll hold for applause ) but I'm very OCD about taking care of my computers, so I want to get a hard case for it as well as a sleeve. My question is, can I put the Speck hardcase or SeeThru case on the MacBook Pro and still have it fit the 13' neoprene sleeve? A friend of mine just got the same computer and when I put his MBP in the sleeve, it was a tight fit without the hardcase or SeeThru case.
Has anyone else tried using both the hardcase/SeeThru case along with the neoprene sleeve? I would most appreciate the help!

I understand wanting to keep your Macbook Pro looking like it just came out of box the day you purchased it. I would warn that if you force the sleeve onto a case like this it may over time wear down the anodized coating faster due to the increased pressure on the sleeve. Just something to think about in your search for a protect your Macbook.
I had a clear Speck case and loved it. But after going through two of them and seeing them warp due to heat and the clasp that hold it to the Macbook wear down in a short amount of time I looked elsewhere for a solution.
I found the Vyper M3 case made by Booq I am very happy with it. It is semi rigid, slim and offers protection from the zippers. I double bag my Macbook using this and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a sleeve.

  • Would a 2011 speck case work on a 2012 air?

I can only find speck cases on amazon listed as 2010 or 2011-- would these work on a 2012 macbook air?

The 2011 MacBook Air externally is exactly the same as the 2012 model, all the differences are internal, so yes I'd say it would
