Specs for APFI0 on a 6251 DAC card

I have a new 6251 Multifunction DAQ and am trying to get up to speed on a couple of issues:
After downloading all the spec sheets and the M-series help I still cannot find a spec for the ranges on the APFI<0..1> for use as a voltage reference. The sheets say it can be used but not for what ranges and I'm still getting about 1mV of noise on a 1mV signal which seems to indicate that the output is refrenced to +-5V.
Also when I write a VI and simultaneously output a digital pulse and an analog pulse and compare them on a fast scope I see about 1ms of jitter in the analog signal rising edge. (I'm using the digital edge as a reference to trigger the scope.) Is there a way to use the fast time bases, 10MHz clock, 20MHz and 80MHz time bases to set the DAQ mx timing... no positive results so far.
Finally when connecting terminals and physical channels in LabView 7.1 many of the M series connections are not available. (For example APFI <0..1>) Or if I'm misunderstanding the use of these DAQ mx constants is there some help in English that explains what they are and how they are used? I have been through the help software for the last few weeks.

If you are wondering what the limits are on the signal that you can wire as reference voltage, beasically you can wire up to 10V. The problem though is that you need to keep the total voltage within the limits of the hardware. For example, if you had your reference at 5V, then you are only left with 5V to play with on the positive side before you exceed the 10V limit. This is valid on the negative side as well. So having a 5V reference means that you are left with -15V to play with from the reference.
Regarding your next question, the update rate for analog ouput has a limit of 2.8 MS/s for your device (6251). Using a faster timebase will not help you increase this rate beyond the specifications.
Your last question was regarding the channel constant in LabVIEW. Right-click on the edge of the drop-down and select I/O Name Filtering. Make sure that the option to include internal connections is checked. This will give you access to some internal signals. However, you will not be able to access the APFI lines from the software. These lines are meant to be driven by connecting an external signal to it.
Additionally, not all boards have APFI lines. Your board has only one (if it is a mono-connector board), APFI0. APFI0 is on pin 20 as you can see on the image below.

This is a good question. The analog sampling is real-time and hardware controlled regardless of whether or not you are doing hardware analyzing. You are not at risk for missing any data points or affecting the sampling speed. If your computer is not fast enough to analyze the data as it comes in, you could stream the data to disk for analyzation once the acquisition is through. You will know the computer is not fast enough if you got a buffer error during the acquisition. Basically, you are not compromising the quality of data at all. It will just take longer to get results.

The following steps describe how to configure a measurement with NI hardware in DIAdem:
Configure your hardware in MAX. It is necessary to define “Global Virtual Channels” in MAX for each signal you would like to measure with DIAdem.
Open DIAdem DAC and choose “NI DAQ driver” (icon DAQ) in the toolbar “Driver inputs”.
Open the “NI DAQ” block and select the signals to measure
Complete you DAC scheme with other function blocks of DIAdem DAC and start the measurement.

Choosing specs for a mac pro

Hello all,
I've posted this question a few times in the past and am still a bit unsure of what specs i should go with. With the student/teacher discount coming to an end soon, I thought I'd give it one more go. I am also curious how the new mac pro might affect my decision. I will not be needing a 12 core, but did this new product affect the specs for the lower models?
I am looking for a computer that will help me run my small business and keep my art portfolio organized. I'm willing to spend around $3000 and am also willing to use another source to buy less expensive parts to install myself.
My concerns are that it needs to run pretty smoothly with multiple programs open, no overheating, plenty of space for file storage and application support.
Ideally this computer will be my work horse for many years to come.
The programs that would most likely be open in conjunction with one another would be a combination of the following...mozilla, itunes, adobe bridge, dreamweaver, illustrator, and photoshop.
Specifically, i'll be using it for...
building a few websites
managing my small business
large photo file editing
keeping business files, artist receipts, etc
cataloging my art portfolio (large photo files)
storing photos, music, and short videos
graphic design
infrequent film editing
infrequent sound editing
The programs i'll be using:
CS5 (mostly photoshop, illustrator, bridge, dreamweaver)
iphoto
itunes
maybe minimal finalcut/soundtrack pro

"My advice would be to buy the standard configuration 2.66GHz Quad Core (i.e. 3 x 1GB RAM, 640GB hard drive) from the Apple store, with the exception of the graphics card which you can buy as a CTO option for $200.00. It is well worth the upgrade from the GT120 - I know, because I upgraded myself last November after using a GT120 for 4 months.
With regard to the memory, if you can afford it now, buy 4 x 4GB from OWC now. If not, I would suggest that you buy 2 x 4GB now, and then add another 2 x 4GB in the future. 16GB of RAM is a much better option than 8GB for your requirements. You can sell the 3 x 1GB RAM to OWC in "part exchange", and there would be little difference in price for 2 x 4GB to the CTO option of 4 x 2GB.

Instead of buying 2 x 1TB hard drives as a CTO option, you could purchase 2 x 1.5TB or 2 x 2TB HDDs for less money, and you would still have the 640GB. Spare drives are always useful. I use my original 640GB as a spare emergency system boot drive (OS and applications) in an external enclosure.

That advice looks pretty sound to me. What I would add is for internal drives you need one for storing your working files (better not to have those on your system drive but not really a big deal). And one for backup with Time Machine. What I also have is a separate external drive to clone my system so I have 2 backups.
And I have a partition on one of the internal drives that is used ONLY as a Photoshop scratch disk. This is by far the fastest solution unless you want to create a raid system. Never have your scratch disk on the same drive as your system drive, not even as a partition. You only need around 500 MB for this and it's best if that partition is dedicated only as a scratch disk.
You can create all of this with partitions for some of it, no need for lots of drives, except use different drives for Time Machine and your clone disk so both can't go out at the same time. I think for speed purposes that the scratch disk and Time Machine should be on internal drives, but Firewire 800 is pretty fast for an external.
Other than that your biggest concern is ram. Get as much as you can afford because that will determine your speed more than anything else.
I was working on a 4 year old iMac, which is a pretty good machine, but the limited 3 gb ram was causing problems because I have Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign open all the time along with Mail, Chrome and a couple of others. When I got a Mac pro last year to replace it I got 8 gb of ram and the speed has been incredible.

Edit: Forgot to mention that you shouldn't buy the hard drives or ram from Apple, they are way too expensive, get the minimum you can from Apple then get new stuff, OWC is a good source.

Computer specs for nice 3D rendering/ after effects rendering and video rendering in general ?

I would like to know what the perfect specs for a laptop/workstation/computer are, so that I could do my creative work from home..my old laptop (Macbook Pro, 8Gb Ram, V 2010) is not good enough for 3D rendering, not even Video rendering or After Effects... I need to know what graphics card for eg or how much Ram or what I need to look for in a computer so that I won't get any error messages after rendering for half a day anymore...;) (--> very annoying) Money is not a first priority...i would first like to know, what the best option would be that one could have and then down size from there;)
I would appreciate every help:) my laptop is dying...i need something new and better;)

Regardless of workflow, you want a workstation, not a laptop. You will get much more bang for your buck.
Also, as others have said, Windows machines tend to be better choices than Macs right now. And that's coming from two people who used to use/love Macs...
In general, you want the fastest clock speed on your processor that you can afford. You want as many cores as you can get with that nice, high clock speed.
Ideally, you want 4GB of RAM per core of your processor - MINIMUM 16 GB of RAM, (but get as much as you can afford).
You want an SSD for your cache and a good-sized regular hard drive to hold footage, renders, etc.
GPU matters for Premiere and any third-party plugins that use it (like Red Giant Universe, Element 3d, Mettle's ShapeShifter, etc.), but not for AE and not for Cinema 4D (which comes free with AE these days).
Again, this is just some generalization. For more specific info, we'll need to know more about what you're doing.

Your previous system spec. that you requested feedback on was quite good:

Now you are talking about a slow clock speed dual Xeon, with only 12GB of RAM, Xonar sound and a Matrox MX02 - a system that has a lot of issues:
- Dual Xeon's, unless you want to buck up to the $1700/each level of processors, cost lots and are not as good for CS5.5 as either a X58 6-core (i7-970, i7-980, i7-980x, i7-990x) or i7-2600k Sandy bridge CPU.
- Matrox MX02 - I don't have any personal experience, but loads of users are complaining on this forum regarding issues with this card and CS5/CS5.5
- Quadro 4000 - another expensive card that costs more and does not perform as well as GTX 500 series cards (i.e. GTX 560).
- WD 1TB Enterprise drives in RAID 1 - again more $$$, and the wrong choice for RAID 1
Bottom line, if your are building this yourself, go back to your last system design and more it forwards. Or, if you are hooking up with a local integrator and this is what they are telling you, call up ADK on Monday and get their thoughts of how to configure a system that best meets your needs; they may be mail order from where you live, but your life will be much better with their "remote" support!

Have acquired an HP LP3065 monitor. Now seek to acquire a PC to drive it to full 2560x1600 res. Old Dell Pentium D computer (XP) with integrated video brings it to 1900. Any power supply, memory, MB recommendations would be helpful. Standing by is a Nvidia 8800 GTS video card from BFG Tech that a gamer friend pulled from his system.

To get that resolution it all depends on the specs of your video card. And if you install a new video card with that resolution capability, you'd want to check the specs of the video card to see how much power is required. If the PC you are using doesn't have a strong enough power supply, you'd need to get one that has more power. I'm not familiar with Dell products so I don't know about your power options. I'm looking at purchasing a computer for running Adobe Premiere Elements 11 on 64-bit, but don't want to spend too much (nothing over $1,000). I wanted to know what specs for a computer I would need to look for (processor, clock speed, dual v. quad core, ram, etc.) in order to run the program fairly smoothly. I don't need professional-grade hardware (such as 16GB of RAM) but I do need something that will be able to handle some laid-back HD editing, keying, rendering, etc. without crashing (or taking a lifetime).

Well, a lot depends on what type of video you're going to be editing.
But, assuming you're editing AVCHD, Flip, HDV or DV video, you'll be fine with at least a quad core i5 running at 2.8 ghz, 4-8 gig of RAM, a a basic ATI or nVidia graphics card and a 500 gig hard drive. Even better if you have two hard drives: One for your programs and the other for your video storage.
I picked up a computer with these specs for about $650 -- plus the cost of two monitors.

Min spec for daq Computer?

What would be some min spec for a computer to do data Acquisition with a 16 bit pci DAQ card? It will be using software that is writing in C# using MEasurement Studio. It would have to save and plot the data, in real time. It wouldn't be used to write the DAQ software, just runn it. Thanks for your input.

So if you are developing your application using C#, you'll need the .net 1.1 framework. Here is where you can find infomation on specs for that.

What are the ideal specs for a DigiBeta master tape when authoring a "widescreen anamorphic" 16:9 SD DVD (original aspect ratio is 14:9)?

I just received the masters for a new SD DVD. I would like to author a "widescreen anamorphic" SD DVD horizontally squeezed widescreen image stored in a standard 4:3 aspect ratio DVD image frame. (On 4:3 displays, mattes should preserve the original aspect ratio. On 16:9 displays the image will fill the screen at the highest possible resolution.)
Below I've listed the specs of the Digi Beta master tapes the producers have sent to me for digitizing. I'd like to know this: What are the ideal specs for a DigiBeta master tape when authoring a widescreen anamorphic SD DVD, using material with an original aspect ratio of 14:9?
I've also listed my guesses below. Please let me know if my guesses are right. If not, please suggest alternatives (and if possible explain why.)

As such, I was hoping for advice on a more precise way of requesting the master that I need than asking for "the master that was made before the letterboxing stage." Upon reflection, perhaps I'll just do that. If you or anyone else has a suggestion about something I should add to my request that would improve the odds of them sending the tape I need, please repond. Thank you!

Video capture driver for MSI GeForce 2 Pro video card

I am in need of the nVidia WDM video capture driver for my Geforce 2 Pro video card. Model #M-8831. I was able to download it from the MSI/TW website over a year ago just fine. My computer crashed from a game bug a couple of months ago and MSI/TW does not list the capture driver I need any longer. I did email the company asking for help with no response back yet (after 2 weeks). You people may be my last hope.
I do have the cd that came with the video card, but I've never been able to install the capture driver from it. There is a button to install it, but it never gets loaded. I've tried browsing the cd and also tried installing it using the windows wizards with zero results. My only successful install was from the MSI home website.

It asked me that too.Don't worry and just put it in. Itunes doesn't charge unless your son buys something. The password happens to me all the time. Credit card was only once. Just make sure your son knows not to buy anything without permission so he doesn't accidently charge you something.
