What Apple Care for MBP Retina 15" Mid 2012 ?
Sorry for this dumb posting, but there are existing two different apple cares when i search for it:
Item Numbers: MD013D/A or MF218D/A.
Maybe someone could help me and say what worked for him. I have an MBP 15" Mid 2012 with Retina (short back after a repair - got 8 dead pixels...).
Thanks for your help! You are referencing German versions? I am not familiar with those part numbers. In the US, the current appropriate Applecare part number is MD012LL/A for your machine; however, I have seen (and purchased) the older version of Applecare for a Mac if it was offered at a lower price. Whenever a new Mac is introduced, the Applecare product numbers are updated, but there may be third party sellers which still have the older product in stock. In any case, as long as your part numbers are both for the appropriate machine and say "Applecare for 15" MBP, etc", it should be fine.
Having said all that, the question comes up: if your machine was purchased in 2012, your one year warranty has expired and you can only purchase and register Applecare during the original warranty period. -
MBP Retina 15'' mid 2012 vs MBP Retina 15'' mid 2014
Hi there,
I have a Mackbook Pro Retina 15'' mid 2012 and I am thinking on upgrading to a Mackbook Pro Retina 15'' mid 2014 (I believe it is the latest version), but I wanted to know your opinion on the specs, which is better and if its worth the try?
I know that there are some pretty significant differences between both, but the mid 2014 brings differences that some find not very good.
Can you please give me your honest opinion?
Thanks in advanceThe only significant difference that I am aware of is that the new MBPs have PCIe storage and Ivy Bridge CPUs replaced by Haswell CPUs. That said, if you look at the benchmark score, i see that the differences are not that dramatic and even more important, in real world operation, the differences would be noticeable only when running very, very resource intensive applications.

In my opinion, a new one is not warranted, but it is your money, not mine.

Location of microphones on MBP Retina 15" mid-2012?
On the MacBook Pro 15-inch mid-2012, where are the built-in microphones? I've seen references to dual mics on the left side (two pin holes to the right of the audio jack) and I've seen references to internal. Mine does not have the external pin holes, so they must be internal, but where, exactly, are they? I've tried finding an answer but have come up empty.
Have a look around here. There are many threads on the various pro's and cons of LG -v- Samsung screens, both 1st generation and 2nd.

Extract data off a broken MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2012?
Hi,,,
I had a problem with my MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2012 - display and something ending with logic being broken = black screen. Since is was over £1000 to fix it, i decided to buy a new Macbook pro with Retina Display 16gb ram, 512gb.
Now, what is the best way to retrieve the data out off the old macbook pro SSD? If I open the computer and take it off, how do i connect it to my new mac? is there a cable to connect to the SSD, as i searched and can't find. Really need to transfer all my files that is inside the old mac to the new one.
Thank you in advance for the helpRemove the SSD from the old MBP and put it in an external USB enclosure. Connect to your new MBP and transfer your files. You can find a good enclosure at OWC.

Hi,
First of all, let me thank everybody who takes the time helping me with this issue.
My name is José. I work on a 13" MacBook Pro (MBP 9,2 mid 2012) with Mac OS X 10.9.5 (13F34). It has a 2,5GHz Intel core i5 Processor. 4GB of RAM Memory, and an Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB.
I've installed the Adobe CS6 and I'm having trouble with After Effects. It just won't open. Every time I try to run the app it crashes and the "GPU manager" alert pops up. I had installed and ran Photoshop and Illustrator successfully but After Effects crashes every time. I've even downloaded and installed all the updates from the Adobe support and still got the alert message. I installed 11.0.1, 11.0.2, 11.0.3 and 11.0.4 updates but non of them seems to fix the problem.
Please, hope someone could help me.
Thanks!!
Hola,
Gracias!!Buenas, otra vez.
Hello again. I ended up installing AE CC to fix my problem. although that was not what I was looking for but at the end all that matter is to enjoy the software. The only unsolving issue is that I won't be able to enjoy the option of working graphics in GPU mode due to my graphic card. It needs CUDA and intel doesn't support it. I'll keep on looking for answers to my trouble with AE CS6 in the web. -
What's the power Adapter for Macbook pro 13inch Mid 2012
What's the power Adapter for Macbook pro 13inch Mid 2012 with core i-7, 2.9ghz, 8Gb ram?
AFAIK it should be a 60wat Megasafe power adapter.
But mine shipped with a 45Watt Megasafe. I got it as a Gift from my friend.
Thanks in Advance.mmaumio wrote:
60W MagSafe power adapter with "L" style connector
This should be my Adapter right?
Yes.
There is a drawback in addition to taking a longer time to charge up your MBP. In unusual instances when using your MBP with power adapter attached, and running a very heavy load on the CPU/GPU, the MBP will require additional electrical resources in addition to what the power adapter can provide. It will then draw upon the battery. What this means is that using a 45 watt adapter, these conditions are more likely to occur.
Using a 45 watt adapter should not harm your MBP as such.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Upgrade graphics card macbook pro retina display mid 2012
Can I upgrade the graphics card on my macbook pro retina display mid 2012 ?
If I can where can I get the parts from ?
Thank youThe only way to do that upgrade is to convert your MacBook Pro to CASH (by selling it) and use the cash to buy a Mac more to your liking.

Connect two external monitors to Macbook Pro (non-retina, 13", mid 2012)
I've connected one external monitor to a Macbook Pro (non-retina, 13", mid 2012) using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
Can I connect a second external monitor using a USB to DVI or USB to HDMI adapter? Will the Macbook Pro recognize a monitor connected to the USB port?Something like this -> http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011404&p_id=6191&se q=1&format=2 - from MonoPrice may work.

HT204032 how can i figure out if my pro retina is mid 2012
update for powernap
what does mid 2012 mean.Ok, this is what the support told me. I don't know is this is right but...
If I have done the update over the App-Store to 10.8.2, then it should not be necessary to update the Firmware. SHOULD... :-)
But still I tried and my mac told me that the update is not compatible with my system. It didn't tell me if it is updated or not, but it stopped the update. So I have not the possibility to update. Even I would need it...
What now. Are they right or not?!
And, is there a possibility to check the version I have on my EVI Firmware?? -
Macbook pro retina 15 mid-2012 display problem : solution :)
Well. This topic is not really a question, I hope this could be a solution for both users and Apple. Its free, but if Apple wants to offer me a full options Mac Pro, or hire me as consultant we can discuss ^^
The story is long, but is worth. Sorry in advance for my swissy english. I hope you'll enjoy.
As many of retina mid-2012 owners (and perhaps other versions) I encountered the symptom of my machine crashing more and more frequently (from once per week to more times per day). Crash usually with a message of "read error" or some display related crash dumps, often linked to the switching of graphic card (integrated<->dedicated).
For a long times a suspected some burnt chip (because of using 1-3 external screen all the day) and seeing istatmenu with crazy temperatures of 90-105°C. I was disappointed because of the evolving symptom (crashes more and more frequent and sometimes no display at power on)
It took me ages to discover what exactly did my MBPR crash, as it was crashing "randomly" for me. Sometimes after crashing, hard shutdown and restart, it wouldn't display or even power on the backlight, for one hour or one day and suddenly it would display again !!
I tried all the solutions found here and there including replacing the thermal paste, smc or pram reset -> no luck.
I took it to my local Apple provider and I was told I would have to change the motherboard. An expensive operation, since the warranty was expired by 2-3 months.
So I bought a 13 inchs retina as replacement and continued to diagnose my 15 inchs in parallel.
I discovered that it would crash if I bend it : Power on, one hand on each side applying a light bend in the two directions made my MBPR crash. So suddenly the problem wasn't random anymore. Mouhahahaha. This could be motherboard or chip related (de-soldered solderings here or there), or case related. Let's hope the problem's not mobo related.
I opened the case and tried to see in the dark if I could see a mini lightning when bending (because of a bad ground somewhere). -> No luck
So I tried to put paper here and there to try to locate the potential bad ground. Booting, bending, hard shutdowning, papering, booting, bending,...
And suddenly the darkness became light : If I put a paper at the right place, my MBPR will resist to the bend test. Was my mobo alive, and was this nightmare only a progressive bad ground ? Yes.
Here me good : the progressive symptom of random crashing of my MBPR (which I imputed for a long time to an old chip since the symptom was the same under windows 7 bootcamp + because of the graphic switching behaviour) was in fact only a bad contact at a very given place.
The very given place (my diagnose and my solution) ?
The screws of the left's fan (thunderbolt's side) or/and the fan case itself are screwed through the motherboard. For a reason (temperature, mecanic constraints or corrosion) this stuff entered in contact with each other, the redox gained the near electronic motherboard tracks (especially the thunderbolts one I guess).
Proof :
If I put a piece of paper between the motherboard and the case, I can bend my MBPR without it to crash and use it as before (except for external screens).
My diagnose :
once the material of the screw/fan case/motherboard track enter in direct contact, there is a corrosion effect that affects more and more the neighboor.
Here is a pic of my repair :
I can now :
play hours in windows 7 bootcamp
switch between graphic cards with gfxcardstatus (even with a playing itunes animation)
sleep and wake up with integrated or dedicated graphics
I can't :
connect a screen through thunderbolt since it activates the corosionned part of my MBPR, so it will work for a period of time but will assure me that a crash is awaiting (perhaps after a wake up or randomly from this time)
I'm confident that this problem is conceptual and that a big part of 15 inches retina mobo's exchanges are due to this question.
Hope this helps
Kisses from SwitzerlandI tried to diagnose this mid 2012 retina 15 inchs for a couple of month now. With a very similar symptom of a lot of people :
some that exchanged the motherboard more times and experienced again the same freezes / shutdown again
some that installed mavericks by believing it workarounded the problem (but majority also says after a while that actually the problem was only differently reproduceable)
some hoping Apple to release a sowtware fix for that or a recall of the concerned machines
I now think to have isolated one of the cause of such symptoms. At beginning I thought that the fan electric insulation had worked but actually not.
Solution for me :
open the under case
dismount a bit the two fans
insert paper bands under the motherboard (between the black bottom and the motherboard, I used ~120gr/m2 paper and cut it into bands of 10-13cm by 2-3cm).
I would have dismounted the motherboard if I had the right screwdriver, but this seemed to be a too long/hard work, so I went into this idea that my motherboard was ok and that the problem was only caused by a supposed short-circuit under the motherboard.
My thoughts :
The more big the hole in the black tape under the motherboard, the more frequent the freezes / shutdown due to a short circuit (electronics grounded at the false place because of the mobo entering in contact with a grounded metal part through the black tape)
I also thinks this short circuit is more dedicated graphics linked than integrated and that this is the reason why the symptom persists or reappear even after multiple motherboard exchanges for a lot of people and the reason some people use their machine with forced integrated graphics
This solution should apply as self doable for a lot of people
If I should bet, I think that the black insulating tape under the keyboard is scratched by the time (mecanic constraints on the chassis) by some mobo component until a false contact is created through the insulating tape
I can now (mid-2012 retina 15 inchs I7 8go 256go, osx 10.10.2) :
run firefox or VLC with integrated or dedicated graphicssleep/wake with integraded or dedicated graphics (forced or auto-switching) with such programs runningrun multiple screens (2x TB + HDMI at the same time), sleep the machine, unplugging 1 of the 3 screens during the sleep, wake the machine + bending the machine during the process without it to crash. \o/
The goal of this post is to share this amazing experience with both Apple and the users facing such a problem.
Problem solved without motherboard exchange and with a quite easy workaround -
Internal HDD installation guide for MacBook Pro 13" mid-2012 model
Hello,
Can someone please share any step by step guides or instructional videos for installing a new internal HDD in a MacBook Pro 13" mid-2012 model. Also, please advise on how to format the new HDD as it is an unformatted one.
Thanks in advance! To format your new HDD, connect it to your MBP and open Disk Utility>Erase. Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then clone the data from the internal HDD to the new external one. You may use Disk Utility>Restore or use Carbon Copy Cloner (third party software) to do the cloning. Test the new HDD via Startup manager and then perform the swap.

16GB RAM Upgrade for MAC Book Pro mid 2012 15inch
Does anyone know if there is any chance to upgrade a mid 2012 15-inch Mac Book Pro to 16GB RAM?
This document states 8GB RAM as the top config for such a model: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1270#link2
Thanks in advanceYes, if you've the non-Retina 2012 MacBook Pro you can upgrade to 16GB of RAM using 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs available widely, but particularly good for picky Macs, Crucial or OWC.
Good luck,
Clinton
