Spectre 13" 3004TU Ultrabook F4A28PA Display rubber seal leaking fluid at bottom of screen

I have a Spectre Ultrabook 13" for which I paid a pretty penny - top of the line specs (i7, 8gb ram, 256 GB SSD etc).
Naturally, having spent so much I have treated it with kid gloves - however, I have noticed small amounts of a clear, oily residue appearing on the screen below the rubber display seal at the lower left and right hand side of the screen. It sits on the glass bezel and smears when touched. It also transfers to the laptop metal opposite the screen when closed, appearing again, as an oily clear fluid. I have not had any luck discussing this with HP reps (in India, presumably - I might as well be speaking Swahili, for all the help they have been).
My initial thoughts are that it may be a solvent which may have been used to attach the rubber seal to the display? is it the rubber breaking down? I have been advised there is no oil-type dampening fluid used in the hinge, so I'm at a loss. Of course, HP, ever helpful have already advised that although the laptop is still under warranty, I will possibly be liable for any costs. Wonderful!
Have been asked to call the HP 'Service Centre' in Brisbane, Australia for advice and to book it in. Naturally again, this service has been outsourced to a provider called 'AWA', and so far, after being on hold for over an hour, I'm still waiting to get through.
This will be the last HP product I ever buy, and no, I won't be recommending their products - on the contrary, I'll be sure to advise everone I can that if this is the standard of after-sales service, steer clear!

  • Gap between display rubber seal and case

A few days ago I got my MBP 13" shipped. (mid 2010 version)
Soon after unpacking I spotted a little gap between the black rubber line and the aluminum frame on top of the screen. The gap is approx. 0,3mm wide in the middle and covers 2/3 of the top of the screen's top. The other borders and the corners are fine; not even the slightest gap between rubber and frame.
Here's a picture of it: (You can see dust that already got into the gap on the right side)
    http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/3273/p1060268.jpg
Is this something to worry about? Does it affect the hold of the display or would dust be able to get behind the glass?
If not, I'm perfectly fine with it. I really love my MacBook just how it is. I'm only concerned about possible risks. The MacBook has to endure some years now after all

I visited an ASP today. They said it's nothing to worry about

  • Advice how to increase Spectre XT Touchsmart Ultrabook battery life.

I will receive my Spectre XT Touchsmart Ultrabook back from the repair center tomorrow.Hopefully the issues that it had were resolved so I'm looking forward to enjoying using it again. However, one of the biggest issue that I had with that laptop was it's short battery life. Surfing the web and perhaps doing some light Photoshop work at a cafe makes it last AT MOST 2 and a half hours. Does anyone have advice as to how to make it last at least 3 hours or more? - Does HP CoolSense burn battery life?- I will most likely turn off the backlit keyboard and lower the display brightness to about 40%- Do Dropbox and Box Sync consume a lot of battery?- What are the best Power Options settings to squeeze more battery life? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hello TheCainMan, Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I understand you are looking for some advise on how to extend your battery life on your HP Spectre XT Touchsmart Ultrabook. I am providing you with a link to an HP Support document: Improving Battery Performance (Windows 8, 7, Vista). If you review and follow the document you should be able to extend your battery life. As for how much I cannot say as a lot of it depends on how you use and that is different for every user.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Rubber seal on PlayBook

The rubber seal next to the right hand speaker on my PlayBook is coming away. Any suggestions how to fix it as there is no BB support here in the UK, only a Canadian phone number at customer services.

I have been told by RIM that it is not covered under warranty. I am in Canada and had very bad customer service experience.

  • Photosmart 5520 Ink Cartridge rubber seals

    Hi,
I have just openied the lid on on my HP Photosmart 5520 to replace the inks.  I noticed that the rubber seal which surrounds the ink inlet nozel is missing from 2 of the colour cradles.  They are easily removed and I can see that they are linkely to stick to the cartridge when they are removed and therefore easily thrown away.  Are they important and will the printer operate without them?  Where can I get new ones?

Hi Dave, could you please take a photo of this and post it here to the Forum?

  • IPad 1 - rubber seal coming out

Having a rather serious problem with my iPad 1 - the aluminum frame seems to have gotten 'bent' in such a way that the glass is now pressed tightly against two corners and loosely against the other two - and at the bottom left corner the rubber seal itself has started to come out. I can even stick my thumbnail under it. On the opposite (top right) it's not quite so bad, but I can see the seal starting to twist. The complication to all this is that there are a myriad of stratches and even two slight dents in the back. Probably not 'perfect care', eh?
Do you think this should warrant a visit to the Apple Store? Would this be under warranty? (1-year through September 2011)
    Thanks in advance,
    Liam

Okay. One thing I assume you meant the Genius bar, or is there another level I haven't heard of.
If they replace it that would be great. I don't think even they could 'repair' it, seeing as the aluminum itself is bent. :/ Otherwise, looks like I'm out of luck. Use it until it actually craps out, then iPad 2 here I come...

  • Can iCal display a month bar at the bottom?

Is it possible to make iCal display the useful bar at the bottom  - so you can click straight into any month - the way it displays on the iPad and also the iCloud website? If so, how do I do this?

    Not that I have found.
If using the <today> link or swiping through the months while in Month view takes to long you can set the iCal page to show 'Year' then double click the month you want.

As i had said, I have an Apple Powerbook G4, and my monitor doesn't function. I have an external display Monitor, however it's stuck in extended screen mode. How do I get it to mirror or duplicate the display without use of the on-board? Is there a Fn key combo i'm missing or is the issue more serious then i realize? any and all help and hints would be greatly apprichiated, thanks in advance.
    -Powerbook User

The PowerBooks have an F-key that toggles mirrored and extended mode. My PB is loaned out right now but I think it was f7. The keycap has an icon on two overlapping rectangles, as I recall.
EDIT: Yes! Found a pdf of the PB manual it shows F7 is the toggle:

  • Display 2 different structured internal tables in single screen using ALV

    Hi,
I have two internal tables. Both has different structures. My requirement is to display both the internal tables in single screen using ALV Grid but NOT using OO ALV Grid display.
Is there any way of spliting the Final ALV display screen into two with two different headers and details as shown below.
    Header1 for internal table 1
    Data of internal table 1
    Header1 for internal table 2
    Data of internal table 2
Can anyone suggest a better way to display this.
    Regards,
    Senthil

    hi
first think i can say ALV GRID means only for OO ALV it is not possible to display two I.T. data in singr report screen.
better to use of the fm: REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_DISPLAY
so that u can display both I.T. data in separate report list under single screen
    Check the example programs:
    BALVBT01 Testprogram ALV: Block list
    BCALV_TEST_BLOCK_LIST Program BCALV_TEST_BLOCK_LIST

  • How to keep icons displayed on bottom of screen

one to keep icons displayed on bottom of screen to make switching between programs easier

You can only access the recent apps by double tapping the home button or by swiping up from the bottom of the screen if you enable multi-tasking gestures on your iPad. Go to Settings>General>Multitasking Gestures>On. If you enable that setting - you can also swipe across the screen to switch between running/open apps.

  • Displaying or projecting your project onto a TV screen

I want to display my Keynote projects on a large flat screen TV and operate the project from my lap top.
How can the project be displayed on the screen?
    Does this require additional hardware?
Can this be done using the Apple TV hardware?
Does anyone know of a tutorial or a book which would explain this procedure?

What format video inputs does the flat-screen TV have?
IF it is a HDTV with HDMI input, all you need is a cable that connects from the DVI/D connector on your computer to the HDMI connector on the TV. Otherwise, you will need an appropriate interface from your computer to the TV. Check with your local Apple store for more information about this.
Once your TV is connected properly to the video output of your computer, go to System Preferences/Displays menu and check the button: Detect Displays. This will put a window onto both the displays (your computer and the TV) wherein you can select the proper settings for each. (Default settings likely will be highlighted already.) This also should show your desktop pattern on both displays. (If you want, you also can go to the System Preferences/Desktop and Screen Saver menu. Here you can change the arrangement of the two displays and select a desktop pattern for each. The display with the menu bar across the top will be your Primary display; normally, this should be your computer screen.)
Then, in Keynote, go to the Keynote Preferences/Slideshow menu and checkmark the button: Present on Secondary Display; this will put your slideshow on the TV screen. Finally, go to Keynote Preferences/Presenter Display menu and checkmark the button: Use Alternate Display to show Presenter Information; this will put the Presenter Display on your computer screen.
    Good Luck.

  • I have a Macbook pro Retina display, I have a small nick in my screen that is annoying especially when watching videos. What is my best option for fixing it?/does apple care apply?

I have a Macbook pro Retina display, I have a small nick in my screen that is annoying especially when watching videos. What is my best option for fixing it?/does apple care apply?

Did you cause the nick? Or did it just appear one day? There are reports of the retina screen having exploding pixels which leaves a hole in the screen that can be felt when you rub your finger across it. If that is what happened then it should be covered under the warranty. If you caused the nick then it is not covered and the fix will be very expensive, somewhere in the $1000 range.
