Speech Analysis doesn't work on MPEG clips...?

A few months ago, I was able to analyse my MPEG clips, now for some reason, it doesn't work. Out of curiosity, I made a quick video in Photo Booth and that worked fine. I then converted an MPEG to an MOV and that worked fine too.
I realize I sort of found the solution to my own problem but there has to be a way to make MPEG clips work. Right? Three months ago, it worked fine. What changed?

Yes, you are right, MPEG-4 is far better than MJPEG...Ideally MPEG-4 should work on your Camera, kindly state what made you think it does not work(kindly explain) ?
Set the MPEG-4 Settings (Resolution) to 640x480, 30fps max and see if it works(it should work)...
Here are the advantages of MPEG-4 -
Key Advantages of MPEG-4 :
-- Reduces the amount of storage needed
-- Increases the amount of time video can be stored
-- Reduces the network bandwidth used by the surveillance system
Examples of MPEG-4 applications :
-- An example of a situation where MPEG-4 could be utilized to solve a bandwidth issue is if the video traffic was going be part of an existing 100Mbs network. The network would be saturated sooner if MJPEG cameras were put on it.
-- Another example of where MPEG-4 could be the solution is if the storage on the NVR was relatively small
and archiving could only be done once a day.
-- A third example of utilizing MPEG-4 benefits would be if the length of time desired to store archives was unusually long, or just too long, if MJPEG images were stored.

  • Speech Analysis does not work

    Hi!
Using PPro CC v7....  trying to use the Speech Analysis function.  When I select the clip in project manager and do the "Analyze clip", I have it set to Speech and tell it to go.
Media Encoder launches, but then nothing at all happens.  It just sits there.  All my files are .m2ts AVCHD files (don't know if that matters or not).  It won't analyze any of them, no matter what project I'm in.  It won't look for faces either.
Is this a problem or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks!

    Jim, thank you for responding.
For some strange reason Adobe insists that if you use AVCHD that you have to leave the ENTIRE Blu-Ray structure intact for speech or face detection to work.
I haven't the slightest idea WHY.....   Even the Sony cameras don't expect you to keep that structure.  They copy the files off to a single directory.
As stupid and a pain-in-the-butt as it is, for the few times I have to do speech, I have to have TWO copies of everything..... the stuff the Sony camera imports into a "normal" single directory and the Blu-Ray structure that Adobe insists on.
BTW.... why not just always copy the sturcture?  Simple...  in the Blu-Ray structure all the .m2T files are sequentially numbered (0000.m2t, 0001.m2t, etc).   When the Sony camera copies them to a SINGLE directory, it renames the files with a timestamp (20131023081234.m2ts)   Makes idetnifying clips WAAAYYYYY easier.

  • Referencing during analysis doesn't work correctly

    Hello EH&S guys,
I encounter a strange problem (or is it working correctly?).
During referencing of an amount stated in the risk assessment, the referenced value is not found.
The characteristic of the referencing value is stated as g/cm3.
It seems that whenever I put for instance g/m3 or any other UoM than stated in the characteristic (CT04) it doesn't work.
Is this normal behaviour? Should the UoM only be limited to the one stated in CT04?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Pascal

    Hello Ravindra,
Thank you for looking into this. I think I was not really clear in my question. I try to explain it othewhise.
    We have a characteristic:
    SAP_EHS_1013_005_VALUE
This characteristic has the UoM "g/cm3"
This belongs to the value *** Type SAP_EHS_1013_005 which is used for the property "Density".
In the property tree, I can assign a different UoM than the one stated in the characteristic. For instance:
    2 mg/m3
So in our example we would have a threshold value of 2 mg/m3.
In a risk assessment, I enter over in the amount tab "Mass Concentratiön" a value of 0,5 mg/m3.
If I perform the analysis Methods, the system doesn't find the threshold value stated in the property (it sends me back 0 mg/m3).
Is this normal behaviour? Or is this a bug.
Could it be that we are only allowed to use the UoM "g/cm3" since that was the UoM stated in the characteristic. If this is the case, it would not be possible to use other UoM in the property for Density.
Thanks for you advice in this.
    Regards,
    Pascal

  • Speech recognition doesn't work

Hi. I used to use my iBook's Speech recognition software all the time, but can't seem to get my Macbook's to work. Any thoughts?
I am familiar with it and have got it to work in the past on my old laptops. I also use Text to Speech - I'm not sure why this doesn't work.

Without knowing the specifics of your problem it's hard to really suggest anything. Have you adjusted your settings correctly in System Preferences/Speech, and while in Finder have you clicked on 'Help' in the top menu? If you enter 'Speech Recognition' in the Help searchbox it will provide you with a lot of different trouble shooting tasks/hints.

  • Copy and Paste doesn't work inside compound clips

If I have two compound clips, when I try to copy some clips from inside one, then open the other compound clip and paste, nothing happens.
However, if I try the same on a project timeline paste works.
This is really annoying as I cannot move a clip from one scene to another when I have set up my scenes as compound clips.

    They were created in 10.0.8.
Are you definitely going into two separate compound clips?
For example, If I explode one of the compound clips on a timeline then paste works again. That still means I need separate projects for each scene which is a pain.
What I would like in FCP X, is to be able to have more than one timeline open simulataneously, so I can drag relevant clips between them. I am finding with a documentary that I am editing, where the story is not obvious and scripted in advance, that developing story idea sections as compound clips is really incovenient. I often realise that clips there were in one section work better in another. This was much easier in FCP 7 where you can open two timelines and drag between them.
I hope apple add the ability to open multiple timelines.

  • Speech Analysis not working

Testing Premier CS6 to see If I can get the Speech Analysis functionality to work, ...with no results.
I'm able to import a file, enable Analyze, which launches the Encoder, but the results are empty..  nothing shows up.
I've tried using various files and formats, mp3, wav, mov mp4, converting to audio only, .. I've even tried using clips referencing  dialogue scripts,  (which opens the text dialogue) , but in the end nothing is being displayed in the analyzed area..  I have no idea why
Do I need to be using a specific type of movie / audio clip to work?
Do I need to install other Adobe components?
Do my files need to be located in specific directories?
    Any ideas?
    thanks

    Hi everyone,
I'm currently experiencing the same issue. I go through all the above mentioned steps running US English, High (slower) quality. Encoder comes up and in the Analysis Text box in PPro, the entire area is blank, as if it didn't do anything.
Does anyone have any recommendations re: this issue?
Thanks so much for your assistance.

  • CS5 Speech Analysis Tool For Transcription, Acceptable Media Types?

    Hi all,
I've been fiddling with the oh so handy, speech analysis toolin CS5 PPro, and can really see the potential for cutting down on transciption time.  I spent a bit of time poking around the CS5 PPro help document, as well as tutorials via lynda.com etc. to gain a bit more insight into the file types that the speech analysis will accept and am drawing a blank other than the observations I have made doing a bit of experimenting with the feature.  So far, I can not get the tool to recognize 2 of our 3 cameras, native media.  Currently it will analyze only raw media shot via SDHC Class 6 cards on a JVC HGMY700 in 1080i60 format. The other two camera/media types in question are Panasonic P2 MXF files and Ikegami HDS-V10 MXF files, both are also 1080i60 format.
Is there perhaps a codec/plug-in etc. available to access the speech analysis tool with these other types of media?  I have found it works well with quicktime .mov files, but I might end up spending as much time waiting to convert the file to an .mov as I would just transcribing the old fashioned way.
Any insight on how I might best utilize this tool would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
On a separate random note, if anyone has any useful info, links or otherwise, in regards to media management using CatDV and Cache-A for archive, it would also be appreciated.  That's one of many projects looming...
    Lindsay

Believe it or not, it has nothing to do with the media type--well, specifically, it doesn't have anything to do with the format or codec.
So, what's the problem? Annoyingly, Panasonic P2 structures are write-protected--that is, they're marked as "Read-only." While this isn't much of a problem in normal operation, when you try to do things like speech transcription (and other metadata entry, if I recall correctly), you'll effectively be shut out. The files in the structure are writeable, but the structure itself is not.
    Yep. Weird.
What to do? In Explorer, simply right-click the CONTENTS folder (you might even be able to do this at the top level, if you save your P2 offloads in that way), click Properties, and clear the Read-only checkbox in Attributes. Once the Read-only attribute is cleared, you should be able to run Speech Analysis on the P2 clips. You'll probably want to change the Read-only flag with Premiere Pro closed.
Now--that might not solve it. There seems to be a latent bug in Pr that prevents you from running Speech Analysis on a single P2 MXF clip. If this seems to be the case, try selecting two or more clips in the Project Panel, and then check to see if the Analyze button or Analyze Content menu command is available. Pretty silly, but at least its a reasonably painless workaround.
Hope that gets things working for you.

  • Speech function no longer works

I have just upgraded to Mtn Lion from Leopard and my text to speech function doesn't work - Why not? How can I fix it?

Go to: Apple > System Preferences > Dictation & Speech > Test to Speech and make sure that the box for "Speak selected text..." is checked and that the proper Shift+Control+Space keys are set.
If the box is already checked, uncheck and then recheck it to reset the saved preference.

  • Speech Analysis - No Analyse button

    Hello,
I'm using Premiere CC on a PC. Somehow the speech analysis is not working. I have installed the neccessary packages and also made sure that the audio file (.wav) is editable (explorer properties) When I select a file in the project panel in Premiere and select the Metadata there is no analyse button. It's not greyed out it's just not there at all. I'd be happy if you could provide a solution to this problem.
    Cheers, Tobias

That feature has been dropped in the latest versions of Premiere.

  • Speech analysis not working, even for english - CC 7.0.1, OSX

My research around the forum suggests that there IS a bug for this, but only for languages OTHER than english. I beg to differ...
In my case, I have not installed any additional language packs, and the "Analyze..." button in the speech analysis part of the metadata panel is eternally grayed out.
I CAN right click clips in the project panel and select "analyze content" which loads up a speech analysis prompt. Every language but English is grayed out. So, I leave it on english. Click "OK," which opens up media encoder - then nothing. Nothing happens.
Is this a legitimate bug that I should report? Or is there something I'm missing?

    Hi Keith,
Thanks for posting the questions. The speech analysis model has a problem in Premiere pro CC, inspite of installing the language packs all other options, except English, are greyed out. The problem has been reported and unfortunately there is no work-around available for it.
For you second query, please mention the work flow that you are trying to follow because as I can understand you are launching media encoder and not addng any files in the Queue for transcoding. If you want to check it you can open any project in Premiere Pro CC and then queue the sequence in export window which will in turn launch media encoder CC and you will notice the transcoding in the queue window.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Vinay

  • Speech Analysis to Clip markers?

In an hour interview, I usually manually make cuts and rename the clips giving me a basic description what the person is talking about when creating a string-out.
Im curious, is there anyway to get the Speech Analysis meta data in every detected word into a marker within the audio clip?
Just like in After effects or other Adobe authorizing software once you import it.
    -Thanks!

I just tried it, and it worked for me. The temporal XMP metadata stored in a movie exported from Premiere Pro was converted to layer markers in After Effects.
You have to have the Create Layer Markers From Footage XMP Metadata preference turned on. This tutorial shows all of the steps.

  • Video clips doesn't work in new keynote

I recently upgraded keynote after installing os x maverick.
When I opened my previous keynote presentation, the new keynote asked to upgrade the movie quality.
And you have to click this option, otherwise the video clips will only come out as pictures.
But now, some of the video clips doesn't work.  The thing is, I do not have the original video files as these are presentations given to me by others.
    What's next for me?

Having the same problem, would greatlyu appreciate a fix. does it matter if one upgrades to the iOS or Mac Keynote options?

  • You can't open Dictation & Speech preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac.

I cannot open or use Dictation & Speech in System Preferences. When I try to open it I get the error:
"You can’t open Dictation & Speech preferences because it doesn’t work on an Intel-based Mac."
I have tried repairing the disk from the installation CD and repairing the permissions and I have also tried re-installing Mountain Lion but the feature still does not work. Any ideas?

Open Finder, press Option key and select Go > Library. Open Preferences and delete com.apple.systempreferences.plist. If you can't open, do a backup, format and install

  • Speech analysis not working in CC on OSX

I'm having a problem with speech analysis in PPro CC on OSX 10.8.4. When I select "analyse content" from within Ppro:
Firstly, even though I've downloaded the international english pack, all of the other options apart from US english are greyed out.
Secondly, and more importantly (as the people I'm currently trying to transcribe are from the US), hitting OK opens Media Encoder but nothing appears to happen -- there's no job active in Media Encoder and looking at the activity monitor, there's nothing happening behind the scenes either.
    Any suggestions?
