Speech Feedback Issue

Well I just discover this awsome feature, so i dicided start using it for fun, so  I download several voices. Everything was working perfectly but suddenly the Speech feed back stops working, i always have to close it and wait several minutes or restart the Mac to  activated again. But the problem start here, i give a command and the feedback work "what time is it?" or "Open my browser" it will do it, but after it follow the command it stop working, just one command, and stop. The feedback app apper to reciving audio, but  i notice that normaly when it recive a command two arrows appaer in both sides of the mic on the app display, but not arrows appear after i give the first command

Maybe this will provide some insight.

  • I need to know the application ID for Speech Feedback.

I have a problem, the speech feedback icon is in my window after I used it for a while. I went to system preferances and turned speech feedback off. The icon did not disappear. I have tried right clicking for options but nothing happened. I also looked up a converstion in which the questioner was using later software than mine. He had updated his software and the icon was deleted on his desktop. At the end of the conversation between the apple user and the apple attendant the attendant said alternately he could go to the terminal application and type "kill #" the hashtag stands for the item ID. He reffered to an application which I have never seen nore heard of called Process ID. Of course, the user had been using older software than I at the time. I would like to know what the ID for Speech Feedback is so I can delete the icon using terminal. The other recomendations  the attendant reffered to did not work, so again, what is the system ID for the Speech Feedback icon/application?

Hi, it'll have a different number depending on when it starts, one way to see the PID is to...
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on, sort on Nasame for instance.
Another to just type top into Terminal...

  • Speech Feedback Window Doesn't Appear

In the beginning, speech recognition worked with some commands, but simply didn't respond to most others. Then the speech commands window suddenly emptied itself. I got a temporary fix for that problem, but now I find that the speech feedback window doesn't appear at all.
I tried the advice in the help (switching it off and back on again; rebooting; deleting the com.apple.speech.recognition.feedback.prefs.plist) but it has not worked. And the plist file hasn't even recreated itself.
    Please help if you can.

Hi. I followed the advice of another related thread and now I'm convinced it works.
There's a bug in Panther that cripples Speech Recognition when the Address Book is activated to respond to speech commands. (Maybe it's b/c Address Book overloads the SR system?)
Go to System Preferences > Speech > Speech Recognition. "Apple Speakable Items" is the only choice in my Recognition System window; so I didn't choose anything there but the default. Then, go down and make sure that Address Book is UNchecked (not On). I have all the other ones checked (On), such as Global Speakable Items and Application Specific Items, etc., and am not experiencing problems.
Hope this works for you. It seems to have worked for many others. I have no other advice! Best,
    Walter

  • In downloading an application, an icon called "Speech Feedback" has popped up on my desktop. and I can't get rid of it. It will not be trashed, and I can't find the app. among my applications.

After downloading an application, an icon called "Speech Feedback" has appeared on my desktop.  I do not want it and can not get rid of it. Please help.

Go  to System Preferences and click the Speech icon . When the next screen opens look in the upper portion of that screen for "Speakable Items". Change the setting from "On" to "Off". Now the icon of the desktop should disappear. If not, restart your MacBook Pro.

  • Can't close Speech Feedback window

I just did an erase and install of 10.4 as per an AppleCare rep, in order to try to track down repeated kernel panics (doesn't seem to have helped).
One side effect: the Speech Feedback window won't close.
    So far, I have:
    - toggled Speakable Items on and off in Speech. It is currently Off, but the round Feedback window is still there
    - deleted all speech-related preferences (com.apple.speech.recognition.feedback.prefs.plist, com.apple.speech.recognition.AppleSpeechRecognition.prefs.plist, com.apple.speech.recognition.recognizer.prefs.plist)
    - repaired permissions
    - repaired the disk with Disk Warrior
    No other applications are running.
Nothing. I can't get rid of the darned thing. Any ideas?

    Hi, Scott.
You wrote: "I just did an erase and install of 10.4 as per an AppleCare rep, in order to try to track down repeated kernel panics (doesn't seem to have helped)."I'd say the kernel panics are the more pressing problem, and whatever is causing those may also be causing the Speech Feedback window side effect.
See my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics.
My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, following the instruction in the order specified, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein.
    Good luck!

  • Turning off Speech feedback window

How do I get rid of the speech feedback window?
I have disabled everything in speech plus looked in startup items...nothing works.
Its there everytime I launch and I dont want it or need it. Its there with only Finder running.
    Any suggestions?

Hey Roam...thanks...I did all that with no effect.
    However I figured it out.
Seems I had set a few speech commands a long time ago and one of them was 'turn off speech'...so thats what I did and it worked when I relaunched.
Interesting that this overwrote all the other commands/prefs and keystrokes. Seems a bit dysfunctional to me.....I mean the whole software app
    Thanks anyhow

  • Speech Feedback Icon

I was using the speech feedback circlar icon where you could say like "open ichat" or "close this application" but now I cant get it to pop up. I have looked everywhere on the computer tried multiple options and rebooting and so forth. I think I deleted the icon by accident. Are there any links to download this software? I would really like to avoid losing my songs and pictures or having to buy something to store them all on.
    Thank you in advance

    Clarification of Neil's response:
    0) Open System Preferences.
    1) Click on the "Speech" pane.
    2) Click on the "Speech Recognition" tab.
    3) Click on the Speakable Items: On radio button.
    4) If you want to, change the custom settings to suit yourself.
    5) Quit System Preferences.
It should work immediately, but if it doesn't, restart.
If you don't see the Speech pane, you probably need to reinstall.

  • Speech feedback does not work

Have tried using Speech Feedback. Initially, I set it up, used a few commands, and calibrated. Then, after opening Safari, it stopped working. I restarted the computer, and the feedback icon comes at the bottom of my desktop, and after using the first command 'Open Safari' or 'What time is it?' it would refuse to work anymore. Even calibrating again, or enabling/disabling it, or deleting the feedback preference file did not work. Now, I can only use it once only, and then it stops. Any ideas?

    Hi Sue,
Have you installed any screen reader? Such as JAWS (http://www.freedomscientific.com/jaws) or NVDA (http://www.nvda-project.org, which is open source software) on Windows, or enabling the Voice Over (Instructions here: http://www.apple.com/accessibility/voiceover) on Mac OS.
To enable Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) for use with screen readers, you need the JAWS or NVDA reader on Windows or VoiceOver reader on the Macintosh.
    Good luck!

  • Speech Feedback Window Won't Appear

Repaired perms; and dragged the file named “com.apple.speech.recognition.feedback.prefs.plist” to the Trash, emptied the Trash, and turned Speakable Items off and on again, and restarted. No luck.
Whats left to do? Repair disk? Reinstall speech? I always forget....

Fixed. I should have known; it was APE (Application Enchancer) still in a beta version.... sigh....

  • Tiger 10.4.6.!! The speech feedback window simply wont come up!

    Hey,
All of the computer geniuses please help!
I have an ibook G4 that runs on OS X TIger 10.4.6. with 1.5 DDR SDRAM and 60 GB of harddisk.
I am quite new to the whole apple os and recently, I found something called speech on my system preferances.
The first time I tried it, it was great and i even played chess on it,
but when i restarted the computer and tried to use it again, the speed feedback window simply didnt come up.
I tried the toggling the buttons on and off. I even tried after trashing the "com.apple.speech.recognition.feedback.prefs.plist" but that made no difference.
Please tell me what to do!

I suspect this is yet another manifestation of the Address Book problem!
    Please try the following:
    0) Open Address Book.
    1) Go through each entry shown as a "company" and ensure that there actually is a company name (make up a dummy one if necessary).
    2) Quit Address Book.
    3) Restart.
    4) Try the Speech Commands again.
Please let us know how you get on…

  • Speech Feedback WIndow

    Hi all,
I have been using Speakable Items to control my Mac for some simple tasks, most of the time I have the feedback window minimized in the Dock. But everytime I startup the computer, it will show up on the desktop again. I have checked the box to hide the Speech Startup under Login Items in Sys. Pref., but does anyone know how to minimize the feedback window or hide it some way after startup? It's not really a big deal, but doing it repeatingly is troublesome. Thanks a lot.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Metadata Speech Analysis Issue

My office recently upgraded to CS6, and I'm having a problem with Premiere's speech analysis function.  I've used the function in CS4 and CS5 without difficulty, but the same process isn't producing the same results with CS6:
On clicking the "Analyze" button in the Metadata tab, Media Encoder starts up fine and seems to be running without issue.  However, when MediaEncoder finishes, it outputs the results in a *.CIT file, and the "Analysis Text" box in Premiere remains blank.
I have no idea what to do with a CIT file, and none of the applications that a web search of that extension turns up seem likely to help.  Anyone have an idea of what's going on, and how to get around it?

i'm having the same problem but its creating a strange *.f4v file. did you find a solution?

  • Maxx hd speaker feedback issue

i just got my phone in February everything works fine. and everything is up to date as for as OS and phone and all that good stuff.
I have sound people can hear me i can adjust volume. my issue is that randomly there is feedback from my speaker phone.
for example my phone will be sitting there screen off not listening to music no calls just sitting there. I go to pick it up and i get this ear splitting feedback sound. if i blow into the microphone  and it can be heard coming out of the speakerphone speaker. i can usually get this to stop by making a call (i've just been calling voicemail) and the feedback stops. i can put it down and it's fine. can get texts and calls and no issue this can last anywhere from minutes to days. sometimes though i put it down, no feedback get a text pickup the phone and BAM feedback within a minute.
i've searched the internet and can't seem to find anything about this problem. is it just my phone? i get regular texts and texts from viber so could viber be giving me this issue? (same notification sound for viber and regular texts)

Mmike89, thank you for sharing your issue with your device. This does sound strange and sounds like an issue in the hardware. I checked and I'm not showing this issue being reported. I don't think an app would be causing this, but you can try uninstalling Viber temporarily to see if it still occurs. Also make sure to reboot after re-installing. If still having the issue, then it sounds like the phone needs to be replaced.
    Thank you,
