Speech Feedback Window Doesn't Appear

In the beginning, speech recognition worked with some commands, but simply didn't respond to most others. Then the speech commands window suddenly emptied itself. I got a temporary fix for that problem, but now I find that the speech feedback window doesn't appear at all.
I tried the advice in the help (switching it off and back on again; rebooting; deleting the com.apple.speech.recognition.feedback.prefs.plist) but it has not worked. And the plist file hasn't even recreated itself.
Please help if you can.

Hi. I followed the advice of another related thread and now I'm convinced it works.
There's a bug in Panther that cripples Speech Recognition when the Address Book is activated to respond to speech commands. (Maybe it's b/c Address Book overloads the SR system?)
Go to System Preferences > Speech > Speech Recognition. "Apple Speakable Items" is the only choice in my Recognition System window; so I didn't choose anything there but the default. Then, go down and make sure that Address Book is UNchecked (not On). I have all the other ones checked (On), such as Global Speakable Items and Application Specific Items, etc., and am not experiencing problems.
Hope this works for you. It seems to have worked for many others. I have no other advice! Best,
Walter

  • Speech Feedback Window Won't Appear

Repaired perms; and dragged the file named “com.apple.speech.recognition.feedback.prefs.plist” to the Trash, emptied the Trash, and turned Speakable Items off and on again, and restarted. No luck.
Whats left to do? Repair disk? Reinstall speech? I always forget....

Fixed. I should have known; it was APE (Application Enchancer) still in a beta version.... sigh....

  • Can't close Speech Feedback window

I just did an erase and install of 10.4 as per an AppleCare rep, in order to try to track down repeated kernel panics (doesn't seem to have helped).
One side effect: the Speech Feedback window won't close.
    So far, I have:
    - toggled Speakable Items on and off in Speech. It is currently Off, but the round Feedback window is still there
    - deleted all speech-related preferences (com.apple.speech.recognition.feedback.prefs.plist, com.apple.speech.recognition.AppleSpeechRecognition.prefs.plist, com.apple.speech.recognition.recognizer.prefs.plist)
    - repaired permissions
    - repaired the disk with Disk Warrior
    No other applications are running.
Nothing. I can't get rid of the darned thing. Any ideas?

    Hi, Scott.
You wrote: "I just did an erase and install of 10.4 as per an AppleCare rep, in order to try to track down repeated kernel panics (doesn't seem to have helped)."I'd say the kernel panics are the more pressing problem, and whatever is causing those may also be causing the Speech Feedback window side effect.
See my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics.
My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, following the instruction in the order specified, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein.
    Good luck!

  • Facetime opens but the window doesn't appear?

Facetime opens but the window doesn't appear. I am capable of accessing the setting a preferences from the top bar but the window is still not there. The green light for the camera also turns on. I am running mountain lion with the latest updates on a macbook pro with retina display.

Yeah. Apparently there was a hardware malfunction. I took it too the apple store and they replaced the top clamshell. The repairs would have cost around $750 if it wasn't under warranty. I recommend buying AppleCare when you can.

  • Welcome window doesn't appear when installing CS5 on new imac

I'm trying to install CS5 into my new imac but after I inserted the Application disc 1, nothing happens. the welcome window doesn't appear. No window to fill in serial #s, etc. Installed Acrobat with no problem though. Thanks.

Thanks for your response Jeff. I'm still getting myself familiar with Lion and obviously handicapped with these tech stuff so pardon my ignorance. I didn't see the DVD icon the way I used to in earlier OS so just assumed it wasn't working the way Acrobat worked (the first DVD I inserted). Now, I transferred the contents of my backup drive onto my new imac and see both CS4 and CS5 transferred into the Applications folder. Does that mean the softwares are installed or do I need to install them through the DVDs? Don't want to accidentally screw up anything. If I just dragged and deleted CS4, does that completely remove it out of my iMac? thanks so much for your help.

  • The iTunes window doesn't appear, though iTunes is open.

When I open iTunes, its window doesn't appear, but it plays audio files that I open from the Finder. The only iTunes window that I can make appear is the mini player (the control strip that contains only the playback controls), which appears when you select Zoom in the Window menu.
I was using v.7.0.2 of iTunes when this problem started. Upgrading to v.7.2 didn't fix the problem. Neither did restarting my Mac.
This problem began after I downloaded and played an audio file whose extension was "mpg" or "mpg4" (if I remember correctly).
    iMac G3   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

My question was answered by someone who suggested trying a solution, but that solution didn't fix the problem. To avoid deterring would-be solvers from writing to me, I'd rather not label my question "Answered."

  • Turning off Speech feedback window

How do I get rid of the speech feedback window?
I have disabled everything in speech plus looked in startup items...nothing works.
Its there everytime I launch and I dont want it or need it. Its there with only Finder running.
    Any suggestions?

Hey Roam...thanks...I did all that with no effect.
    However I figured it out.
Seems I had set a few speech commands a long time ago and one of them was 'turn off speech'...so thats what I did and it worked when I relaunched.
Interesting that this overwrote all the other commands/prefs and keystrokes. Seems a bit dysfunctional to me.....I mean the whole software app
    Thanks anyhow

  • Ipod appears in Windows, doesn't appear in itunes

My ipod appears in windows--i have it in disk mode so I can find it in my computer. However, it doesn't appear in the ipod updater or in itunes. I've tried resetting it, and i have the latest itunes and updates. What should I do? My brother's ipod is also having the same problem. We don't have any of those weird icons when we start up our ipods--no sad face or folder w/ the ! sign. Both our ipods worked fine until we updated itunes.

I'm having the same problem, my ipodnano is about a year old and I can't figure out what to do. I just installed the new itunes on my new laptop with vista premium. I'm desperate for a resolution, do you have any suggestions at all. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • Adjust volume window doesn't appear

I am running imove 08 (last version) and am trying to adjust the volume of background music (or clip volume) but when I click on the adjust audio button the window (as seen in tutorial video) doesn't appear.
I have connected the external monitor I have used before (just in case the window is "somewhere else" and deleted the imove.plist file (to start with new settings).

  • Tiger 10.4.6.!! The speech feedback window simply wont come up!

    Hey,
All of the computer geniuses please help!
I have an ibook G4 that runs on OS X TIger 10.4.6. with 1.5 DDR SDRAM and 60 GB of harddisk.
I am quite new to the whole apple os and recently, I found something called speech on my system preferances.
The first time I tried it, it was great and i even played chess on it,
but when i restarted the computer and tried to use it again, the speed feedback window simply didnt come up.
I tried the toggling the buttons on and off. I even tried after trashing the "com.apple.speech.recognition.feedback.prefs.plist" but that made no difference.
Please tell me what to do!

I suspect this is yet another manifestation of the Address Book problem!
    Please try the following:
    0) Open Address Book.
    1) Go through each entry shown as a "company" and ensure that there actually is a company name (make up a dummy one if necessary).
    2) Quit Address Book.
    3) Restart.
    4) Try the Speech Commands again.
Please let us know how you get on…
    HTH

  • Speech Feedback WIndow

    Hi all,
I have been using Speakable Items to control my Mac for some simple tasks, most of the time I have the feedback window minimized in the Dock. But everytime I startup the computer, it will show up on the desktop again. I have checked the box to hide the Speech Startup under Login Items in Sys. Pref., but does anyone know how to minimize the feedback window or hide it some way after startup? It's not really a big deal, but doing it repeatingly is troublesome. Thanks a lot.

  • Inspector window doesn't appear

I suddenly find that the inspector window won't appear. Media, color & fonts windows are fine. Quitting Keynote, and restarting haven't helped.

Same problem here - the inspector is on the edge of the screen and I cannot move it back into view. Is reinstalling the only option? It seems like that is the #1 fix people give on these forums. Everyone knows reinstalling fixes things - the thing is most people don't want to reinstall.
So, how do you bring a window back into view?

  • Mobile Me Sign In Window Doesn't Appear

I have no trouble publishing my iWeb website to Mobile me from my own computer. but when traveling, and trying to publish to Mobile me from a friend's computer, I get as far as the pop up window that tells me to sign in at Mobile Me, but when I click to proceed, no sign-in window appears. I can go directly to Mobile me and sign in, but this does not seem to matter to iWeb as I try to publish... because iWeb doesn't recognize that I have signed in directly. Why can I sign in directly by going to Mobile Me, but cannot sign in from iWeb when I am ready to publish updates to my website?
    Thanks in advance.

    Linda Chin wrote:
...I get this pop up window asking me to sign in.
Linda ~ If it's a MobileMe pop up window, THIS thread begins:
Every time I start iWeb it asks, Already a member? Sign in. Try mobile me for free for 60 days. How in the world do you shut that off.
If that's similar to what you're seeing, the solution that thread ends with is this:
Go to your Library / Preferences
Open com.apple.iWeb.plist and set the value of dismissDotMacUpsellWindow to true (checkbox checked)
...If it is a MobileMe window but that solution doesn't fix it, as already mentioned above, MobileMe live chat support is now 24/7 — see this announcement. Other Apple support options are here.

  • Gnome-Do result window doesn't appear

Hi, I've just finished my first Arch installation and there's one last hiccup that's bugging me.
Whenever I have Metacity composite turned on, the result window in Gnome Do doesn't show up when I press the down arrow, as it should. Even if I mark "Always show results window", the first time I open Do, the results window show up, but from the second on, no luck.
If I disable composite everything works fine, but it's not because of the classic theme, as I've tried using it with composite on, but the same thing happens. Anyone got this behavior or knows how to fix it?
    Thanks.

I had Compiz installed and tried it a little bit, but it wasn't working right (no window borders for some reason), and since I had no need for it besides making Gnome Do look better, seemed a bit like overkill so I uninstalled it. I never noticed this bug while I was trying it on... I'll try reinstalling it and making it work right and post back my results.
    Thanks
    [Edit]
Using Compiz solved the problem, but the OS got a bit slower, even when I disabled pretty much everything I could... nothing unbearable, but noticeable. Besides, the Emerald themes aren't very nice...

  • Bi1SN 2007 confirmation window doesn't appear

    Hi,
    I have installed the Bi1SN 2007
The B1i Server is installed on my machine.
I managed to define a system.
Then I tried to define a simple scenario:
    I defined a very simple BizPackage/BizStep-
I set the sender Object type and receiver object type to be B1.2007_ITM
Than I defined a process and followed all steps untill step number 4.
I see "wait" picture on the screen, and after few seconds it gets back to the step number 4.
I don't get the save status screen
When I save I don't get the save status screen
It works from a different computer (connecting to my integration server),
but that computer is a laptop of a someone in our company that is out of office for a while now.
I have understood that this is related to the Internet explorer I have.
I had IE 7, and I tried to install IE 8, but it didn't help, altho I have now the same version of IE as the laptop.
The version I have is: 8.0.6001.18702
or maybe it is related to the security settings in the IE.
    Thanks,
    Chana

    Chana,
It may very well be that it has something to do with IE settings.  If the save window appears on a different computer than it is not that B1iSN is not functioning correctly ... as on that computer it seems to be saving correctly.
