Speech Recognition Not responding

Hi, im running snow leopard 10.6.6 on a iMac 27inch intel. I want to use the Speech commands on the computer. The internal microphone is calibrated in speech. It is also selected in the audio prefs. But on my speakable items little circle thing im getting no bars lighting up. The arrows point at the microphone when i make noise but the bars do not light up and it does not respond to anything i say.
help?
its the same on my macbook pro 15inch intel.

Look in System preferences > Speech > Speech Recognition tab > Microphone: Internal microphone. Click the Calibrate icon and set the microphone sensitivity.
Also, do you have it set to always listen when a key is pressed like "escape" or set to listen continuously after a special keyword such as "computer".

  • Speech Recognition Not Working Well

Not matter how hard I try to get my speech recognition to work on my MacBook Pro, it is very temperamental! Even when I am in a quiet space it will respond, but after a while it won't. I've tried calibrating it, etc but doesn't make a huge difference.
What makes me think there is a problem is the fact that when speech recognition is activated there is supposed to be lights that light up (on the actual speech recognition widget thing - as I have noticed on various other MacBook Pro users' YouTube videos). But for mine, the bottom, blue light only lights up; and no matter how loud I shout at it, the blue light DOESN'T then go on to the green light. However, when I calibrate it, my speech is recognised as being in the 'green area'; so I am speaking t the right level.
    I appreciate your help!

  • Speech recognition not working

I have an iPhone 5 and for several months, no form of speech recognition has worked, whether for Siri or, for example,  voice dictation when sending text messages,
Whenever I try to use the feature, the line does not wave at all, as though the mic is not picking up any sound. But I can speak to people on the phone just fine.
It's been this way for several months, and the phone has be reset and shut on and off several times in theat period. I switched Siri on and off in that time as well. Can anyone help me?

You should have mentioned that so I can saved some typing.
Have you tried these 2 basic troubleshooting steps?

  • Speech Recognition Not Working. Why?

I have a 6-month old Macbook (OSX 10.5.5), and I want to try out the built in speech recognition software. For some reason, it won't accept any input, no matter the configuration I put it in. When I click calibrate, it's slow to open, and no matter what I do with the slider, it won't recognize my commands. I've tried it in a new account, but without success. It appears to be system-wide. Also, there are no items in the speakable items folder, and a feedback box does not appear on the desktop. Any ideas?

Im assuming you've used the Sound pane to check that the built-in mic is working, and that you've remembered to click on the "Speakable Items" radio button.
There are a couple of fixes that normally work when changing user helps, but it is possible that two user accounts have the same problems!
    1)
Have you got any items in Address Book that are marked as "Company" but have no company name in them? This is an old problem that was supposed to have been fixed with Leopard, but I've heard people complaining about it occasionally since. If there are, try going through them and putting in the company names, then log out and back in again.
    2)
    Try deleting the preference files
    com.apple.speech.recognition.recognizer.prefs.plist
    com.apple.speech.recognition.AppleSpeechRecognition.prefs.plist
    com.apple.speech.recognition.feedback.prefs.plist
    all in ~/Library/Preferences/
Failing those, and the missing Speakable Items suggests that's not the fault, try downloading and reapplying the latest Combo updater.
If that doesn't do the trick, you may have to reinstall the OS.
    Sorry!

  • Speech Recognition not working when tested in IE on Windows 8.1

    Hi,
I have adapted the example code form the Speech Recognition documentation to fire up Speech recognition in Visual Studio for Web Express 2013 on Windows 8.
The speech synthensizer works fine when I fire up the app in IE and produce Text-to-speech, but when I try the Speech recognition code, all I get is "Waiting for Localhost" messages, and no result.
Is there a problem with speech recognition with Web development using browsers? (I tried and failed in Opera as well)
I am keen to use speech recognition for a webapp, ultimately serving mobile devices with the power of server-based processing.
    Anyone help please?

  • Speech recognition not working properly!

I just started trying out the speech recognition tool in Snow Leopard and I seem to be having problems with it. When I calibrate it (using the internal mic) it works fine and understands those phrases perfectly but when I actually say the exact same thing outside of the calibration process the computer doesn't seem to understand. I know it's picking up my voice because the little widget thing animates as is does when it hears sound and the "Speakable Items" option is set to on . It actually worked once yesterday when I tried it for the first time, I told it to switch to an app and it did but that was the end of it.
What should I do? I haven't updated the software to 10.6.1, would this perhaps solve the issue? I don't know if it worked before I upgraded to Snow Leopard because this is the first time I've tried it out

Had the same problem.  Could only resolve by going back to Snow Leopard.

  • Speech recognition not working on Lumia 920

I keep getting "sorry couldn't hear anything"
Folks, I have searched the forums and found lots of posts about this problem but no solution.
My phone does not pick up any sound when I try bing music search or try voice recognition. All settings are on and this used to work. Now the graphic equaliser UI does not react to my speech or music which indicates the microphone is not picking up sound.
I have never used a bluetooth adaptor and have only been using the headphones with the mic that was supplied with the phone (WP8 Nokia Lumia 920).
When I plug in the supplied headphones the sound is picked up through the microphone on the headphones.
I have rebooted and tried various combinations of plugging and unplugging the headphones. Clearly the phone still thinks the microphone is connected via the headphones. Luckily phone calls still work.
    Please help.

Have you tried resetting the device?
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Speech Recognition not working with bluetooth headset

I've got speakable items turned on and everything set the way it should, but I can't do spoken commands via a bluetooth headset. I've tried it on two seperate headsets by differing manufacturers, with no luck on either. I tried with a USB headset and it worked fine, but the bluetooth won't acknowledge any commands. They work fine in every other application, and the speakable items bubble thing that comes up shows sound being recognized fromt the set, just no commands acknowledged.

Problem solved and voice control via bluetooth headset has been restored. Here's how:
With headset off, go to Settings/General/Bluetooth and turn BT on. When the list of devices comes up showing "not connected," click the blue right arrow and then choose "forget this device." Shut down iPhone by holding top button until red slider shows up and sliding it to the right.
Remove battery from headset so it will reset. Restart iPhone (hold down top button until apple appears). Go to Settings/General/Bluetooth and make sure BT is "on." Replace battery in headset and turn it on. You should see the PIN entry screen, meaning that your headset is being re-paired with the iPhone. Enter the PIN for your headset.
At this point, try taping the BT button and see if you get "Voice Control" screen and double beep in headset. If so, you're done. If not, try this sequence again.

  • Speech recognition for a programmer with RSI (not how to do in Java)

Guys, someone that I know has developed RSI and has almost had to drop out of programming.
Has any other programmer here been faced with this and been able to work around it? In particular, have you found a decent speech recognition system that allowed you to continue to work?
Note that I am not interested in learning how to implement speech recognition in a Java program, which is what [most of the posts here|http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5310499&tstart=0] are concerned with.
I am aware of Dragon Naturally Speaking, but there are some terrible reviews of it which have made me nervous. But if any of you give a glowing review, I will reconsider.
Since this is a java forum, and one of the best academic research projects in this field is [Sphinx-4|http://cmusphinx.sourceforge.net/sphinx4/] which is based on Java, does anyone know of an end user application comparable to Dragon Naturally Speaking which uses Sphinx-4?

  • Speech recognition keyword not recognised

I have recently installed Montain lion and have set up and calibrated speech recognition. I very successfully issue voice commands to my Mac in order to open close applications etc. this all works very well as long as I do not use a keyword in order to activate it into the listening mode. I have tried several words including the default word, computer, but it just does not seem to recognise my keyword. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
This is getting me a little frustrated and I wonder if anybody has experienced something similar and has found a solution thank you.
My daughter on a MacBook and using Snow Leopard has calibrated has voice recognition and uses her keyword successfully.

  • "you did not respond" - but not when using the appleu3test01

I have been trying to get my ichat av to work to talk/vidcon to my brother who is chatting via AIM from a PC. When we try and get a chat working, we get the "Ben Taylor did not respond" message and the opportunity to send the error report (copied out below to Apple). I've followed a few of the postings and attempted to open the correct ports etc, but my modem (Speedtouch 5X6) does purport to support UPnP as well.
When I attempt to connect to the appleu3test01 service I can do so without any problems. Any ideas? System preferences for quick time etc are set to 1.5mbps. I do have an IP telephone system with the box which allows me to use a conventional handset connected into an airport express.

    Hi Ben,
Exactly which Alcatel is this ?
You seem to indicating one of the later 500 series.
The UK site for Thomson Alcatel only lists the 516, 536 and 546 as having version 5 or 6 firmware.
    This has UPnP
I must admit I thought the 516 originally came with version 4 firmware and possibly the 536 as well.
IF you are at version 6 firmware you need to update to the latest.

  • How to Switch Off Speech Recognition

I activated speech recognition just to see what it can do and got the round microphone icon in my screen. As I press Esc I can give commands.
I want to get rid of this round thing in my screen though and switch off Speech Recognition completely because I never use it.
I can not find where to switch it off. Who does?

I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  This has happened to me many times.  I don't know why the circle surfaces, but the common response is false - in my preferences, Speakable items is set to OFF.  Turning any of the Speech settings on or off does not make the circle window disappear.  The only way I can get rid of it is to reinstall the operating system from scratch (not an update), which is an incredible pain.  I've done this twice to get rid of the circle, and it's back again!  This is clearly a Snow Leopard bug, since all the responses say when you go into preferences you should see that Speakable items is set to ON, and it's NOT.
Seriously, if ANYONE knows how it gets in this state, and how to get rid of it when it's not responding to preferences.  Force Quit doesn't see it.  Maybe there's a low level Console way to kill the app - I'd do anything to get rid of that circle...
GUYS - SNOW LEOPARD USERS!  I SOLVED IT!  I SOLVED IT!  I still don't know what triggers it, but here's how you get rid of it without a reinstall:
    1) Launch Activity Monitor in flat mode
    2) Look for a running task called something like SpeechRecognitionServer and select it.
    3) Hit the Quit Process button on the upper left!
Voila, that annoying circle is gone!!!
    YIPPIE!
    - Jeff
    P. S. I just noticed that this bug still wasn't solved in Lion, so hopefully my solution will help Lion users as well.  This bug definitely didn't exist in Leopard.
