Speech Volume Leveler settings

Hi,
I'm recording voice overs, and I have a few clips on a track that are louder or softer than others. I'm looking for the best track compression effect to keep the volume consistent. I'm trying  the "Speech Volume Leveler" effect (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/audition/cs/using/WS2bacbdf8d487e5822ff37ac212ce304d19b-8000.h tml) , but I can't figure out what values to select for "Target Volume Level" and "Leveling Amount".  I apply a "hard limiter" to -3db as my last track effect.
Thanks for the help.

The "Speech Volume Leveler" effect (under Effect > amplitude & compression) creates an artifact or noise in my  recording.
* Here is the recording with all track effects disabled:  No speech leveler
* Here is the exact same clip, on the same track, with only the "Speech Volume Leveler" effect enabled : with speech volume leveler . There is a suction sound towards the end.
* I've tried the default setting , I've also tried reducing the leveling amount, but I still get the same noise at the end.
* All other tracks are muted.
I'd really appreciate any solutions.
thx

  • How to identify low volume/level audio segments in a recording?

Iam newbie to Audition and trying to edit/master a 2 hour long lecture done in a live setting (not studio). Since the speaker sometimes moves away from the microphone the level of the audio sometimes falls off or reduces sometimes for a few seconds to a few minutes. I would like to identify all segments greater than 5 seconds which fall below say -5db.
I have tried using Diagnostics >>Effect : Mark Audio and set a Custom setting. I defined Silence has : Signal is below -5 dB, For more than 5000 ms (5 seconds) and Define Audio has Signal is above -15dB for more than 27 ms. It works to some extent in the sense it marks the Proper Audio segments in between the segments that are between the segments that are identified/marked as Silence but I would like the opposite. I would like to get the segments which are defined as Silence to be marked.
I am sure it is possible to do in Audition, appreciate all your help in figuring out how to do it.
To do the same in Audacity is very straightforward, Go to Analyze >> Silence Finder and define Treat audio below this level as silence : -5dB, Minimum duration of silence : 5 seconds. Thats it. That easy.
Would appreciate help from all the masters in the forum. Thank you for your time in advance.

Is what you are going to do when you have identified these sections to raise the volume. That can be done automatically without previously identifying them by using the Dynamic Processing or Speech Volume Leveling effects.

  • When I set all the tracks in the latest Garageband to the same volume levels and save, when I open the file again they've changed back to a previous setting?

I'm trying to mix a recording in the latest 2014 version of Garageband, but when I set all the tracks in the latest Garageband to the same volume levels and save, when I open the file again they've changed back to a previous setting? Does anyone know why it changes even after saving the file?
    Below is my iMac settings.

Do you have a back up?
If not you're into using file recovery software like  File Salvage - you can download a free trial and it will scan the disk for you and tell you with might be recoverable. Actual recovery will require that you purchase the app. There may be many files with the same or similar names. Always recover the largest file size.
There are other such apps. Search on Macupdate or the App Store

  • I locked my volume level, and forgot the code to unlock it, so how can i get my volume back to normal without a code??

About four years ago I set the volume lock on my ipod to half way up. To do that, you enter a four number code. I decided to change the code one day, and then ever since then i can not remember the code. I would like to remove my volume lock from half way, so that i can turn it up to max volume, but to do this it is asking for the old four number code, which i don't remember! So how can i take this volume lock off without knowing the code??? I tried to reset all settings, but that did not remove the volume lock. Please help me figure out how to achieve full volume level!
    Thanks.

  • My 10G iPod-Volume Levels Erratic + Freezing...HELP!

Admittedly, I have a 3 year old 10G iPod. But I'd prefer to getting it working well if I can instead of junking it for a new model. We've been through a lot together...ha ha
The problem with mine is that the volume levels jump in-between songs pretty often. I will be listening to it on the bus and then suddenly a new song will start at a mind-numbingly LOUD level, even though I have not touched the pad. At first I attributed it to how albums are randomly mastered at different volume levels, but I generally make a point to equalize them before loading onto the iPod. I also have the sound check function clicked ON.
Anyone heard of this problem? any suggestions?
It will also freeze playing occasionally, even though the song timer continues to play out. I'd say this happens every 20 songs or so. What's that about?
Should I try to revert back to factory settings? Or should I just throw in the towel?

Hi, i bought my Ipod touch 8g last week, now, when i play my music ( without earphones ) the volume is very low even though it is on full, in fact its pretty useless, it was much louder, has anyone got any ideas please? Thanks.

  • Why is the volume level different from song to song in iTunes & on iPod?

When I play back songs in iTunes and most of all on my iPod the volume level is different depending what songs I am listing to. The biggest problem is with the songs that I get from my CD’s because the volume is very low. Why does this happen and can I fix it? Thanks, Robert

iTunes uses a feature called "SoundCheck" to attempt to equalize playback volume. There are actually 3 Sound Checks: 1 is for iTunes playback (set in Preferences), 1 is for iTunes burning (set on the Burn Disc dialog), and 1 is for iPod playback (in iPod Settings).
Make sure they are all enabled.
They are far from perfect, but they should help.

  • Volume levels on IPod Classic

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but the early generation IPods I have had all played music louder in my cars than the later version Nanos, IPhones, ITouches, etc.  I know this because with my Gen 2 IPod Classic (wasn't called Classic then) I listened to my music at volume level 48 and it played as loud as I like it.  With my IPhone, ITouches and Video Nanos, I turn it up to 58 and it's still not as loud as the Classic.  And, yes, I have the sound limiter all the way up, and I have kept sound check settings cosntant.  Were the early Classics known for reproducing louder sound vo

  • Which EQ setting + volume level is the most 'clear'?

    Hi
Just got an iPod Classic this week (my first ever Apple Product other than iTunes). It's replacing a 30G player from another company from 2006 (ran out of room) that had really good sound. With a simple pair of JVC Marshmallow earbuds, the right mid-volume and the right EQ setting, I could hear all the musical instruments clearly and somewhat equally and the singer's voice was clear as well, as if we were in the same room.
I'd like to recreate this with my iPod Classic but I've noticed the EQ isn't customizable (unless I'm missing something) and that with some of the iPod's EQ settings I can hear instruments clearly but the vocals sound muffled, almost like they're dubbed from another source. But there's other settings (Vocal) where the singer comes in clear but the instruments are muffled in that dubbed way. I've tried Flat and Off but results with those vary.
My old player's EQ was set at a reverse of the iPod's Rock setting, lowest bars on the outside and highest in the middle. Is it possible to load an EQ setting like that from iTunes? If you can download a game, can you download an EQ setting?
AND is there a certain volume level where that 'same room' clarity shines through? Anything lower than 11 out of 20 on my old player and it would lose that clarity (anything higher than 13/20 was too loud). 12 was just right. If that makes any sense.
Or could it have something to do with how a song is ripped from a CD? Which is what my music collection started out as.
I'm hoping someone can help and shed some light on this for me. I got it engraved so I can't exactly return it. haha

Most audiophiles, switch off the iPod Classic EQ as it is crap, most probably designed by some team who like bubble-gum music. but if you must use, create a custom EQ presets
    read this forum

But try not to boost up greater than zero db, the new iPod audio chipset don't like it, your music will sound like something from some Oriental Opera, of course, unless you like the metallic tin highs.

  • Project Volume levels in iMovie 10.0.2

The old imovie 9 provided a 'volume levels' indicator that I found very useful for ensuring a constant volume level throughout any project.
    i.e.
Is there an equivalent facility somewhere in the latest imovie version please?

No, not as it did in iMovie 9.
You can view the wavefroms though, they will change colour from blue->yellow->red depending on the volume.
The "automatic" adjust will analyse all clips and adjust them; not only volume but also background noise sound improvement etc. You can manually override these adjustments and you also can change your volume and other sound-settings per individual clip.

  • VOLUME LEVEL TOO LOW

Is there any way to increase the volume level beyond that normally available. Some movie tracks need a much higher level.

It is not illegal. Apple has limited the sound level of their ipods over the past few years over complaints that they could be turned up so loud that people were damaging there hearing and so they took measures for the public safety to limit the volume. Personally I feel that if your stupid enough to turn it up full blast (old ipods unrestricted volume) for such periods of time that you damage your hearing that your just stupid.
Apart from adjusting volume in itunes the only other thing you can do is do the following on your ipod.
Go to Settings>Music>Volume Limit Check whether this has been turned down at all if not turn it up all the way. Maybe this will help.

  • Volume level isn't reflected when I save song in itunes

Ever since I got the '08 garageband version and leopard 10.5 for my mac, I haven't had any success with saving my garageband creations at the volume level I want it. In the old garageband, when I adjusted the volume next to the track length, or the master volume, and exported the song to itunes, this level would be reflected. Now, every song I export is at the same volume regardless of what I do. I've messed with settings, the format that I export it (mp3 etc) to no avail. This happens with songs I created in the old garageband and the new ones I've made. Does anybody know what I could do?

  • HP 4120 Lync Phone Edition - Ringer Volume Level Can Not be controlled when a second call comes in for a workflow

Here is the scenario we are experiencing with our HP 4120 Lync phones running the latest available firmware (4.0.7577.4455)
    1) A User has an HP 4120 phone and is a member of a workflow/response group which is setup with attendant routing method.
    2) The ringer volume is set to the minimum level by the user
    3) When a single call comes in to this user, the ringer volume level works as expected
    4) When two calls come in at the same time to this users phone, the ringer volume set by the user is ignored and the ringer plays at Maximum volume.
This is causing disruptions to our office environment as we are unable to reliably control the volume levels of the ringers.
There does not appear to be anything more in the settings/menus of the phones themselves.  I am thinking this may be an issue with the firmware, but if anyone else has any suggestions, they would be appreciated.
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
Did the issue also happen before update to the latest firmware?
Did the issue only happen for Response Group call or also happen for basic calls?
If the issue only happen after updating to the latest firmware, it can be the issue of the firmware.
As there is call delay for Lync IP Phone to be a agent of the Response Group. So you can try to use Lync desktop to instead for better performance.
