Speed adjustment (not entire clip)

I am already well aware that in order to adjust the speed of a clip in your movie you have to "convert" the clip. My question is that if you select a clip in the actual project and convert it, will it just convert the that selected clip or will it convert the ENTIRE clip (the source clip). Currently I have an 11 second clip I want to convert and it's taking FOREVER cause the source clip is kind of 2 hours or so. Haha! Can anyone help me out?

  • Quickest way to change speed but not clip duration

I'm trying to determine the fastest method for changing the speed
of a clip already in the timeline, but not the clips duration. Primarily, slowing a clip down.
The best I've come up with so far is to put the timeline playhead over the
clip and hit X to get the clips IN and OUT points placed in the timeline. Then,
drag the clip into the Browser, effectively making a copy of it there. Then bring the clip into the Viewer, then hit APPLE J to bring up the speed change window, affect the change, then overwrite the change you've made in the viewer back down into the timeline where you placed the original IN and OUTS. Seems like alot of step.
Is there a faster way? Any change I try to make in the timeline itself results
in a clip duration change. The only other way I've found it to use the time remap tool put that is even more complicated and is alot less exact when trying to make something, say, 50% slower.
    Any input would be appreciated.

Another, close but not quite there method I've tried is the TIME REMAP tool
that lives with the SLIP AND SLIDE.
I can affect speed changes, and see what percentage speed change I'm
trying to make, but it wants to change speed on both the left and right side
of the clip. In other words, I can't place the timeline playhead or Time remap tool at the beginning or end of the clip and only effect the speed of the entire
clip unless there is no clip adjacent to the clip I'm trying to change.
Otherwise it changes the speed as I want for 99% of the clip and then during
the last several frames I've accidentally sped up up those frames. I can't position it to just change the speed for the entire clip.

  • IMovie 09 - Slow motion and speed adjustment of clips

I was trying to adjust the speed of my clips in a project. When I double clicked on the clip, it told me that I needed to convert the clip before I can adjust the speed. So, I click the button to convert the clip but it doesn't allow me to adjust the speed.
Any ideas out there? Anyone come across this? Is there something wrong with my clip? Help...

This has been brought up before here.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1900630&tstart=0
It seems to be a combination of codec types and footage fps that causes this. Jon Walker did indepth test in that thread.
For example, interframe codecs like MPEG4 seems to prefer conversion. Intraframe codec movies (AIC, PhotoJPEG...) are less picky, but they need to be in NTSC compatible fps. (29.97 and 23.98, instead of 30 and 24.) Above thread was about a Quicktime movie from LX3 camera with 24fps. At its native 24fps it needed to be converted before speed change, but after conforming fps to NTSC friendly 23.98 in Cinema Tools, it became speed adjustable without conversion.

  • How do I change the speed of a video clip after making it a Smart Object?

In order to apply the same Camera Raw filter to every segment of a clip I was going to split multiple times, I converted the whole clip to a Smart Object, applied my Camera Raw filter settings, and then split the clip and deleted some portions.  Now I want to make certain portions of those clips slow-motion, but even if I right-click on the right side of the layer and select "Clear Smart Filters", all I see when I right-click on the clip in the timeline are the motion options; I can no longer change the speed or the audio.  Is there a way to do this without having to make all the cuts in the beginning, changing the speed and the audio, and then having to go back and convert each individual segment into a smart object and then apply the same ACR filter to each one?

    Brett,
Thanks for addressing this question.  I tried it and see that the embedded file is the entire clip that I started with, not the trimmed version that I turned into a SO, but at least I could go back and make a change that way in a pinch.
If you wouldn't mind looking at this video between :50 and 1:40, and tell me if you think that AE or PP would give me significantly better results in the jumping segments where I slowed it down to 25%:  2014-06-26 And the last thing I expected to see jump out of the box was Albert Einstein! on Vimeo.  I am trying to keep my expenses down by only using PS CC for video editing, and love the Camera Raw filter capabilities.  By using PS CC it also lets me lay down my audio and edit to the audio w/o, as Mylenium suggested, outputting my file from PS CC into either AE or PP to do the slow-mo part.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Audio Level Adjustment for Multicam Clip

    Greetings,
I have 2 issues while some audio tweaking for a Multicam edit.  I have assigned the audio for a single angle to apply to the entire sequence.   There are some clips in the sequence where, at times, I cannot adjust the level of the audio.  It will show the level when clicking with the selector, but it cannot be dragged up or down.   Stranger still, if I select it within a series of clips and use CTRL -/+ to change levels, it is unchanged even though all the others changed.  There is nothing differnent about the clips in question (they are not Compound Clips or anything.)
Restarting seems to often fix the above problem.  But it seems to be happening enough that it's a real inconvenience.  Also I am having similar issues with the audio level meter freezing up intermittently.  Sometimes when I toggle audio skimmer it can correct it for a while, but once it starts, a restart is inevitable.   Does anyone have any workarounds for making this work properly?
One last question that is not a glitch but a functionality I hope exists but cannot find.  Given that I have one angle of audio for the entire clip, I want very badly - and feel like it should be possible - to make adjustments to the audio as I would if it were one continuous clip; for instance, to be able to select a range across the clip transitions and adjust levels accordingly.  So far the best workaround is to select all the clips and use CTRL -/+ to adjust.  But this allows less control, because I must then go in and adjust sections of clips on the ends that I did not want changed.   Would love to  know if anyone knows a way!
Thanks for your time and assistance!
    Brian

I would think it would be easiest to open the muticlip in the Angle Editor where you would have a clear view of each individual angle and its audio.

  • Speed adjustment has stopped working

    iMovie 10.0.4; OS 10.9.4.
I am three quarters of the way through a 45-minute project, and the speed adjustment has stopped working. The hare icon is greyed out. I have used the adjustment successfully on two or three clips in the project, both for speed adjustment and clip reversal, and these adjustments are still effective, though the SpeedBar and hare symbol have vanished from their thumbnails.I have tried a number of things, but to no avail:
Creating a new project based on a different event. Speed adjustment does not work for that either.
Creating a project in iMovie on a different user account. That does work.
Reverting temporarily to iMovie 10.0 .3. Didn't work.
Repairing permissions and restarting. Didn't work.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I haven't really done any cleanup or anything for that matter simply because I can't figure anything out. When it comes to track down and remove the user.js file, I can't find it at all. I even followed all the instructions to get to the profile page that it would be one. I am not trying to get speed dial as a home page, I want it to be there when I open up a new tab. On the whole speed dial options, it is selected as a new tab however this flippin search page conduit.com is there. I have even set the speed dial to open up in a new window, and that did not work. I don't know what to do. I feel for whatever reason my Firefox is not installed properly. When I installed it, the so called firefox button at the top was never there. When an online instructions shows me pictures, I have something completely different and have to spend time figureing out where this whatever is. If resetting firefox will fix the issue, even if I have to re install Speed dial and reset it all, I am totally game for that. Nothing else has worked and I am getting very frustrated by it.

  • IMovie - "Convert Entire Clip" reduced clip's frame rate

    Hi,
I was making a video using iMovie.
I wanted to speed up or slow down some clips, so I clicked the "Convert the Entire Clip" button.
After the clips were converted, I noticed that the frame rate of my clips was reduced. It looked lagging in most part of the clips. The original format of the clips is mp4, iMovie converted them to .mov format
Is there a setting to improve/maintain the frame rate during the conversion?
    Thanks.

Thanks to all who have responded,
I had planned to create short movie clips for emailing but wanted something quick and easy to do so.
It would be great if I could from iMovie select a clip and share to QT then email the results but it seems that each time I will have to ‘work’ on the clip to prepare it for sharing. I don’t want to go to that much trouble each time so I doubt I will use this means.
I don’t understand why it is not easy to do so. Each time I try to open a QT clip in WMP it says it can’t use the file. I had hoped it would convert the movie to MPV or better if QT would convert to something other than files most PC’s won’t open. There are now four PC users that can’t open the file and one that can. 1 out of 5 is not too impressive.
By the way, I don’t know what Sorenson is.
I create numerous iMovies but never use QT even though I keep buying Pro each system upgrade just in case.
Is there a quicker solution to sharing by email?

  • No volume adjustment for video clips

    Hi there!
I have noticed that the volume adjustment for video clips, set in the options pane of the clip itself, will not be respected by iTunes while playing the video.
Is there someone else with a similar issue or already with a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

I've tested all versions since 10.0.1 (for PC) and none work. Versions 10.0.1 and below will allow you to change the volume adjustmant and the equalizer setting for individual videos. No answer from apple!  You can try an older version like I did.

  • Urgent: left and right cut off when dragging entire clip to project

When I right click the clips in the event library and click "Select entire clip" and drag that to the project window, the left and right sides of the video are cut off.  If I select only a single clip and drag that up or a portion of a clip, it looks ok.  I need to get this thing done in an hour or so and I am baffled because there are people in this video that are being cut off!  Help!

Actually, the more I look at it, the entire frame is cropped, even though I have "Initial Video Placement" set to fit in frame, not crop.  The quality really gets lousy too when dragging them in.  I am baffled why dragging a single clip fits the entire video, but dragging the entire clip series gets cropped...??

  • Constant Speed + Timing not working

    Hi,
I have two clips that are in the same group. I've created a motion path whereas the clips are pulled from left to right across the canvas. The 2 clips are a panormic still image that has been stiched in PS.
I've set the timing speed to "Constant Speed" but when I replay the clip the speed is not constant and it seems like the motion "fades" in at the start and "fades" out at the end.
    Thanks in advance.

    hi,
it sounds like there is an amount of easing in and out of the motion path. two things you can do, navigate to the keyframes window, select the keyframes and set the interpolation to linear. Or dont use a motion path and simply apply a Throw behaviour, or set your own keyframes.

  • Does iMovie '08 allow effect for an entire clip?

I just started working in '04, and I find that color correction and Brightness & Contrast only work on a 10 sec. portion of the clip. Does the new version work on the entire clip, say, in this instance, about 3.5 min.?
    Thanks.
    Jim

OK - I have been able to answer my own question.
First I converted one of my mini-movie AVI files to mpg-2 with VisualHub
This file could not be imported into iMovie '08
Following the advice in another message in this forum, I took one of my USB2 flash drives and created a folder MP_ROOT at the root level of the drive and created a folder 101PNV01 inside the MP_ROOT folder. I placed the mpg-2 file created by VisualHub in the 101PNV01 folder.
When I started iMovie '08, the flash drive was recognized as a camera and I was allow to import the mpg-2 file into a new event.
When I looked in the iMovie Events folder mentioned in the first posting of this thread, the file type of the clip was .MOV. The Quicktime Player shows the format of the file as Apple MPEG-2 SD Camcorder Video.
    Question answered.

  • Audio Speed Adjustment Problems

Is there a freeware or Audacity plugin that will let me change the speed of an audio clip by entering how many seconds I want the clip to last?
Example, suppose I have a clip that's 60 seconds long. I want to extend it to 62.5 seconds (don't ask why; I don't even know myself). I could simply enter 62.5 seconds and it would stretch/squeeze the audio into that amount of time.
Keep in mind I'm working on a zero dollar budget here.
    Thanks all!

Yes, you can adjust audio... I kind of got fed up with Audacity... Peak did this pretty well (when its preferences file didn't go south).
In Logic, you can press Apple + 9 to get to the Audio Window -- it'll list all audio files (or segments thereof) used in your project. Double-click the one you want and you'll be able to edit it in another window (I think this one's called the Sample Edit Window).
Under the Factory Menu, check out the "Time and Pitch Machine" -- there are a bunch of settings there that should meet your needs. Just keep in mind that the efficacy of these changes depend on the material you're working on. The manual discusses this in depth.
Also check out "Time Stretch" in the Logic Manual -- you can convert audio into Apple Loops, for example, which can change tempo and pitch pretty flexibly.
We're presuming you own Logic or Logic Express here...

  • Wind tunnel speed adjustment

    Hello,
I am currently writing a program to adjust the speed of a wind tunnel.  I have a few questions about my program and why it is working in a particular way.  In addition,  I am fairly new to LabVIEW so if someone see's a better way of constructing my program I am all for suggestions.  For example, I have a lot of nested loops which I just learned Consumer/Producer loops might eliminate.  I have learned a lot in the past few months but still have a long way to go.
Here is the overall goal IM trying to accomplish.  I am using an ABB ACS 550 drive to power a wind tunnel.  In addition, I am controlling the drive from LabVIEW using the digital outputs on my DAQ (NI USB-6211).
The program I have attached, will start the wind tunnel, monitor the mach number, compare it to a target mach number, then adjust the RPM of the drive either up or down, and keep repeating the monitoring and adjusting until the target mach number (range with limits) is reached.  The one thing ive tried and have questions about is another timer. I inserted on in a frame before the daq assistants to allow the adjustment of RPM to stabilize.  I wanted to wait Sec before collecting the mach number again.  However when I did this it shortened the timer in the while loop.  Why is that? Lastly, if I put the timer to 3 sec I get an error (Code 200279).
Thanks for the help!  Again any suggestions for improvement would be greatly appreciated!

    Auto Speed Adjustment.vi ‏326 KB

    Hello,
Sorry for not being clear, I was in a hurry the other day when I wrote this.
Over the weekend I did some more research on how to improve the program and ended up creating a state machine that completes the same tasks.  I have attached the new code however I am still having the same issues.  The answers to your questions are,
1 and 3... Ideally I would like a 3 sec wait time after adjusting the mach number.  I don’t believe this timer was included in the other code; instead I was trying to explain where I had tried putting it.  I tried putting it in the same case structure as the while loop that collects the mach number.  It was before the loop.  In addition, I tried putting it in the structure that the increase/decrease daq assistants were.  Each location allowed me to have a time < 3s.  When I set the timer to 3s that is when I would get the error.
    2. When I had the timer I described above, it affected the elapsed time of the while loop.  I want the while loop to run for 3s to collect 300 mach numbers to average (100Hz sample rate).  With the addition of the mentioned timer, even if I set the length of the elapsed timer to 3 secs. it seems to only run for 3-timer secs.  For example, if I set the timer to 2 secs. the elapsed time would only run for 1 sec.  I noticed this when observing the elapsed time indicator on the front panel.
I have attached the new vi (State Machine) and a picture highlighting the timer I am talking about.  I am also having the same problem with the timer affecting the elapsed time. I have adjusted the code so it takes the timer and adds that amount of time back to the elapsed timer length, however, I don’t think this is the correct way of doing it.  Now when the program runs, the first time the elapsed time indicator will run showing 0-5secs. but for every other iteration of the loop it will only show 2-5 secs.
Lastly, as I am putting the finishing touches on my new program, if you have any other suggestions let me know!
    Thanks for your help!

  • Smooth cam analysis of entire clip!

    Hello,
I'm working on a long multiple-camera edit. I've been thoroughly impressed by the Smooth Cam filter because it's saved me tons of time on keyframing little camera bumps out, especially on our handheld crowd shots. It really is spectacular. Anyway, before applying the filter, it analyzes the clip. But, instead of just analyzing the portion of the clip that I've cut, it's analyzing the entire clip. The duration of the entire shot is about 35 minutes and it's saying it will take 6 hours to analyze. I only applied the filter to a 9 second clip.
Has anyone else had to deal with this? Any workarounds?
The footage was shot 1080PsF 23.98 and captured as the same with the Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) codec, but I don't think that makes a difference with this problem since I tested to see if it analyzes the entire clip with some DV footage I had on my system. Which it does.

Your problem most likely has to do with collapsing your multiclips. Before you collapse them FCP is looking at the whole clip, not just the section you've cut into your sequence. By collapsing the clips you then tell FCP to only work with the angles on the timeline.
To collapse one or more multiclips in the Timeline:
    1. Select the multiclips you want to collapse in the Timeline.
    2. Do one of the following:
    - Choose Modify > Collapse Multiclip(s).
    - Control-click one of the selected multiclips in the Timeline, then choose Collapse
    Multiclip(s) from the shortcut menu.
The selected multiclips are collapsed to the clips of their active angles.
To expand one or more multiclips in the Timeline:
    1. Select the multiclips you want to expand in the Timeline.
    2. Do one of the following:
    - Choose Modify > Uncollapse Multiclip(s).
    - Control-click one of the selected multiclips in the Timeline, then choose Uncollapse
    Multiclip(s) from the shortcut menu.
The selected multiclips are expanded to the clips of their active angles.
All this can be found in the FCP manual, so if it doesn't make sense here look it up.
    Hope this works for you.
    jesse.
