Speed change problems with up converted  DV widescreen to HD

I UP converted standered DV wide screen to HDV. when I try and play it back with footage I filmed in HDV it works fine. The sequence settings are set to HDV1080i60. There are only problems when I try to slow the Up converted DV footage. The video appears very shaky. When I view it frame by frame it plays the frame before last before advancing to the next frame
Basically it shakes. But only when frame blending is ON.
the regular HDV footage is very clear and very smooth

well, my guess is that, for whatever reason, when the DV (lower field) media was recompressed to HDV (upper field) the field dominance was not correctly reversed as it should have been ... consequently, regardless of the dominance reported by the clip, it is nonetheless wrong.
you might try going back to compressor and retesting on a DV clip whilst tweaking the settings ... see if you can discover the cause and the cure.
you might also want to try sidestepping the issue with a deinterlace filter ... Effects>Video>De-interlace - test with the different levels of flicker filtering, see what gives you best results.
also check out the proapptips website http://www.proapptips.com - there are a number of links to providers of plugins, both free and commercial, i'm pretty sure that one of the free ones has a field-shifting plug or some such ... you should have a poke around, see what you can find

  • Compressor encoded speed change clip with echo as motorboat sound

    Took me two days to troubleshoot, through trial and error and process of elimination, why Compressor encoded an audio clip that had been speed changed and echo applied to it -- as rapid MOTORBOAT sound! Project is a 5.1 mix. Since STP3 won’t accept speed change clips, after I completed mix in STP I placed speed changed clips on FCP timeline below the exported STP 5.1 mix with the FCP audio tracks for that clip assigned to channels 1 & 2 for the fronts and channels 5 & 6 for the rears. The clip on 5 & 6 was duplicated and identical in every way to the clip on channels 1 & 2. Only the dupe clip on 5 & 6 did Compressor encode as motorboat. The identical clip on 1 & 2 encoded correctly. Both clips were set to play at same time since I wanted the effect to be on fronts and rears simultaneously. I could not get the motorboat sound to play back from either FCP timeline or Compressor preview window. Only after encode and burn to DVD did it show up. Why would Compressor introduce such artifacts on one of the clips and not both – if it’s going to do it at all – which it shouldn’t? Any ideas? I have other such effects throughout the project where I duped a speed changed clip with an effect applied to it and set it to play on fronts and rears simultaneously and Compressor encoded those correctly.

    Well, it's a little late, but this is one of the reasons to have your startup drive cloned so you can restore it to a working state if an update, upgrade or install sends things south.

    Have you tried resetting your fcp preferences
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2491
    If this doesn't fix the problem, you could try sending the shot to motion.  You could aslo try changing the speed in the motion tab of the viewer.

  • Problem with unit converter widget

    I am having a weird problem with my unit converter widget on 10.4.9.
    I re-installed my system, and now when I go to open the unit converter widget, I can no longer see the British pound currency, there are all these othere European currencies.
    Is there anyway to get the British pound currency back, do I need to re-install the widget, and how do I do that.

    Then I'd try removing & reinstalling it...

    If it's one that came with OSX, you may have to get pacifist to extract it from your install Disk.

  • IPHone: orientation change problem, with statusbars enabled

    Hello Folks:
    I've run into a problem with the rotation with the latest iPHone OS/SDK (Beta 5). I've submitted a bug report, but I've included the simple description below in case anyone has already run into this and knows of a work around.
    Thanks,
    Dan Pronovost
    [email protected]
    Summary:
    - If you turn on status bars in your application and rotate to landscape view and back, subview (and controls) can at times end up with an incorrect top position (y).
    - This can be demonstrated with a small change to the "WhichWayIsUp" sample application.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    - Load the WhichWayIsUp application
    - Edit the info.plist resource. Uncheck the 'UiStatusBarHidden' option.
    - Edit the MainWindow.XIB.
    - Move the Crate up to near the top (not QUITE near the top... stop on the dotted line that IB displays that represents below the status bar).
    - Build and run the app in the simulator (occurs equally in on the device itself).
    - Confirm that the box is properly displayed at the top of the window below the status bar. Make sure it's not 'chopped off' the top part (i.e. truly just below the status bar and not underneath it a bit).
    - Rotate to landscape. Notice it is now down a few pixels from the status bar.
    - Rotate back to portrait. Notice the box is now down what appears to be a full status bar height in pixels (20).
    - Adding debug code and getting the frame from the 'didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation' method on the main view, you'll see that the origin.y value is sometimes 20, sometimes not, depending on how many rotations you complete (and, the center property for the view is off by 10 sometimes). Equally, adding debug code to get the bounds and transform shows nothing unusual.
    Expected Results:
    - The box should stay at the top of the screen always.
    Actual Results:
    - Box gets moved down, and stays down, about a status bar in height. Reseting the frame in code (or center) does not fix it either, oddly.
    Regression:
    - Only tested on iPHone 2.0 SDK, Beta 5 (latest). Happens in simulator and device.
    Notes:
    - All above.

    Thank you for the reply. I created a bug report: https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-24493
    I hope its not too hard to fix, because I need it for a product desperately

  • Big problem with DNG converter

    Hi
    I would like to convert all my RAW CR2 canon to DNG (The format RAW CR2 change every time) and work with my PSE
    I downloded DNG converter 6.5 and make a test but there is a big problème, the date of the .dng is not the date of the RAW, it's date of the convert...for me, it's impossible i want keep the original date.
    Please, could you help me......
    Thanks
    René

    rene_ladole wrote:
    The problem is that the file date is changed by dng converter, when I want to rename the file with DNG as a parameter of the date of creation of the photo, the renamer is in the name of the date of creation dng, it can not go to my ranking of my photos ....
    There are three potential dates with a digital capture, the Date/Time the file was created, the date/time the file was modified and the EXIF metadata Date/Time Original which is recorded by the camera at the moment of exposure. It is this final Date/Time that you would want to use in a name. Any time you create a new file–which is what DNG Converter is designed to do, you'll get a new date/time of that file's creation. That's not something the DNG Converter can change. If you take the DNG into ACR/Lightroom and modify the settings, you'll get a new date/time of the modification. However, the EXIF metadata will still correctly indicate the moment the capture was created in the EXIF Date Time Original tag.
    So, what are you using to rename the files? If you are using Bridge to rename the file, the Date Time option when set to Date Created should be using the EXIF Date Time Original tag as the source of the date/time. Other apps should also be able to be set to use the EXIF Date Time Original tag.

  • DVCProHD 720P60 delivery/problems with QT Converter settings

    Hi, I'm looking for some guidance on meeting my delivery requirements.
    Footage is DVCProHD 720p60, shot on Panasonic HVX200.
    Imported into FCP easysetup for 720p60, sequence at 23.98, anamorphic not checked.
    Clips are 23.98, 960x720, not labled as anamorpic.
    Delivery specs are: 1920x1080, 16:9
    29.97, 2:1 Interlaced
    My concerns are with maintaining the 16:9 ratio during export, changing my frame from 960x720 to 1920x1080, and the change in frame rate. I've done several test outputs using QT Conversion; the DVD I burned looked poor on my tv (jagged edges, a little choppy), and if I import the QT back into my project, the frame is 4:3. I'm fairly certain that I'm just missing the correct combination of settings in QT Converter. Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

    We are editing a 2 hour feature at 23.98 DVCPRO HD 1080i60 right now, on my 8 core. The source material was shot on the new Arrie 416 ( awesome super 16 camera, result was a print that looked shot on 35) then transfered to DVCPRO HD 1920x1080 progressive 23.98 using the DVCPRO HD 1080i60 codec and were delivered as QT movie files from the telecine house. And I believe will go back out to film.
    Since 23.98 and 29.97 both run at the same speed, I'm not sure I see the need to set the frame controls, for 23.98 projects. (which doubles or triples the conversion time) If you gave the sound mixers or composer, a 23.98 project and they set their session to 29.97, they would be in sync. Some of the frame boundaries will be different, but they will play at the same speed.
    To do a basic 29.97 conversion for sound mixing and the composer, I've found it faster to output my reels to either a QT self-contained or reference movie. and then bring those into compressor and submit it using a virtual cluster. I use the default DV NTSC settings, which has Frame Controls set to "Automatically selected: Off" and it works just fine. A 22 min reel takes less than 7 mins to convert. With FC on the conversion for a 20 min reel is anywhere between 20 to 30 mins.
    I've also used the Photo-jpeg and Apple ProRes 422 settings for better quality conversions. I just duplicated the default settings, the changed the frame rate to 29.97, set Frame controls to Automatically selected: Off, and set the frame size and aspect. Again the conversion time is about 5 to 8 mins for a 20 min reel.

  • Problem with JTree converting Node to string

    I have a problem that I cannot slove with JTree. I have a DefaultMutalbeTreeNode and I need its parent and convert to string. I can get its parent OK but cannot convert it to string.
    thisnode.getParent().toString() won't work and gives an exception
    thisnode.getParent() works but how do I convert this to string to be used by a database.
    Thanks
    Peter Loo

    You are using the wrong method to convert it to a String array.
    Try replacing this line:
    String[] tabStr = (String[])strList.toArray();
    With this line:
    String[] tabStr = (String[])strList.toArray( new String[ 0 ] );
    That should work for you.

  • Problem with cineon converter in CS5.5?

    I was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem when going from log to lin and back to log in CS 5.5.
    As a test, I import a 10-bit log cin or dpx file into CS 5.5 and apply 2 instances of the Cineon Converter effect with the following settings:
    1st Instance:
    Conversion Type: Log to Linear
    10 Bit Black Point: 95
    Internal Black Point: 0
    10 Bit White Point: 685
    Internal White Point: 1
    Gamma: 1.70
    Highlight Rolloff: 0
    2nd Instance:
    Conversion Type: Linear to Log
    10 Bit Black Point: 95
    Internal Black Point: 0
    10 Bit White Point: 685
    Internal White Point: 1
    Gamma: 1.70
    Highlight Rolloff: 0
    Project = 32bpc
    Working Space = None
    Blend Colors Using 1.0 Gamma = Off
    File Interpretation = Full Range
    These settings should take my image from log to lin and back with no loss of information. Unfortunately, the under-black information in the image does not survive the conversion process. I've tried several different log images and get the same results. Using the classic cineon "Marcie" calibration image as my test image illustrates this problem perfectly. All of the black that surrounds marcie shifts to a dark gray after the conversion process instead of returning to black.
    Doing this same test in CS3 and CS4 works as expected - there is no loss of information. Under-blacks, over-whites and all normal range values are preserved.
    Any ideas?
    thanks
    - cd

    Yes we are having the exact same problem, the blacks shift and/or clip in CS5 and 5.5 but not CS3. This is a big problem for our workflow. Was there ever an answer to this?

  • Problems With Cap converter

    Hello,
    so far i have managed to write some Applets and install also Cap files on a Card.
    But i am not able to install my own created cap files...
    My Environment ist the following:
    My OS is Windows Vista
    I am using JavaCard 2.1.1 (Cause my Stick has only it)
    I am using JCDE 0.1 for JavaCard 2.2.2
    The Card is GloablPlatform compatible :-) (i think all javacards are,or??)
    I am using GPShell to install Caps.
    The applet is written in JCDK 2.1.1
    I can install some Test Caps. (Caps i got form another Hompage like wrankl.de)
    I am writing more or less the same code as the test Caps.
    I am converting the Applet with JCDE and i am testing it with JCDWE. So far no problem at all.
    But as soon as i want to Install the Cap i am getting the following error:
    Response: 6438 unknown ISO Error. (0x80206438)
    In the first place the installation looks fine but than it interrupts with this error...
    If i want to convert the applet by hand i am getting only strange envrionment errors like jre1.6 was not found or something like this.
    The problem is that it looks like the global variable is defined well but the error says otherwise.
    So if anybody as an idea about:
    - my global variable problem in windows vista
    - what the error 6438 means or stand for
    - if there exists a better eclipse plugin to wrap the jcdk tools
    - if there exists another cap converter
    I would be really grateful.
    Thanks & Bye
    McUrban

    In answer to your question regarding the SW you are seeing this might help (or at least explain what it is).
    From ISO7817-4:
    ===============================
    *8.6.1 Triggering by the card*
    SW1-SW2 set to '62XX' with the value of 'XX' from '02' to '80' means that the card has a query of 'XX' bytes
    that the interface device should retrieve and for which the card possibly expects a response.
    SW1-SW2 set to '64XX' with the value of 'XX' from '02' to '80' means that the card aborted the command; a
    possible completion of the command is conditioned by the recovery of a query of 'XX' bytes, for which the card
    possibly expects a response.
    If present in the historical bytes with a value such as above, SW1-SW2 shall be interpreted as above.
    If a PUT DATA command (see 7.4.3) for transmitting a reply is aborted with SW1-SW2 set to '64XX', then
    --- with '64XX' from '6402' to '6480', the card wants to send at least one more query of 'XX' bytes;
    --- with '64XX' set to '6401', the card is expecting an immediate response.
    ===============================
    This may not help very much but it basically means that the applet is expecting something to happen. If this is not your applet it may be hard to determine what is required.
    I am not too sure about your other problems as I am using JCDK 2.2.1 under Windows XP. You may need to ensure that when running the converter by hand that both JAVA_HOME and JC_HOME are set in your environment variables. You should try running from a command prompt and run the following commands to see if they are set correctly:
    echo %JC_HOME%
    echo %JC_HOME%You may also want to try using an older version of Java to compile your classes. I know that JCDK 2.2.1 does not work if you don't set the source and target level to 1.3.
    I hope this helps,
    Cheers,
    Shane

    I'm afraid that stuff in the log is beyond me, but it seems either you or the decoder are trying to change the frame rate. I also believe that your target rate is too high given your source materials bitrate although I doubt this is causing you a problem.
    I'm also not sure why mpegstreamclip would be asking for mpeg2 playback components when you are trying to convert from a WMA, or if it is that you have converted your DVD's to WMA so as you can convert them to h264 in a second encoding then I'm not sure why you would do this.
    To be honest I'm not sure if it's your WMA's that have a problem or your conversion that's going wrong, if you have a small sample of your WMA and care to email it to me, I'll take a look at it for you.

  • Problem with characters Converting OTF Spool to PDF

    Hello All,
    Im working on ECC6.0 system. I have a Z report where it will take spool number and mail ID as input.
    It will check wheter the spool is of type OTF of ABAP List, according to that it will use the FMs ONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF & CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF.
    Now it will download the PDF internal table data into a file using OPEN DATA SET statement as shown below.
      OPEN DATASET gv_dsn FOR OUTPUT IN BINARY MODE.
    *Download the file to application server
      LOOP AT gt_pdf_output.
        TRANSFER gt_pdf_output TO gv_dsn.
      ENDLOOP.
      CLOSE DATASET gv_dsn.
    and it will ZIP the PDF as shown below.
    * open the file from application server for zipping.
      OPEN DATASET gv_dsn FOR INPUT IN BINARY MODE.
      READ DATASET gv_dsn INTO lv_content.
      CLOSE DATASET gv_dsn.
      CREATE OBJECT go_zip.
      go_zip->add( name = gv_file content = lv_content ).
      gv_zip_content    = go_zip->save( ).
    * Convert the xstring content to binary
      CALL FUNCTION 'SCMS_XSTRING_TO_BINARY'
        EXPORTING
          buffer        = gv_zip_content
        IMPORTING
          output_length = gv_file_length
        TABLES
          binary_tab    = gt_data.
    After that the ZIP file conataining the PDF will be sent as an attachement to the mail ID given as input.
    Now the problem is some characters of Czech are not coming properly when the attachement is opend once the mail is received. Can any one tell where the problem is and solution.
    Im getting the message "Can not extract the embedded front 'CourierNewL2'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." while opening the PDF in the ZIP attachment.
    Thank you.

    That looks like a doozy. My first thought is that it has something to do with reflection but that doesn't tell me what to do about it. I would consider taking it to the Mojarra development mailing list or even filing a bug report.

  • Problem with SQL Convert Function Junk Character

    Hi All,
    We have a database field that has a value of “2.020 OPERATOE’S CAB – GLASSES” on the front end of Oracle E-Business Suite. When we are spooling that column(in PLSQL) with the SQL covert function , one of the characters(’) in the string is not getting converted properly. It is displayed as a junk character in the spooled file.
    We used CONVERT(p_column,'WE8ISO8859P1','UTF8') for converting the string and utl_file api for spooling the output file. Please note that converted string is passed to utl_file.fopen directly.
    Following are the nls_parameters values.
    NLS_CHARACTERSET ~~ UTF8
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET ~~ AL16UTF16
    Any inputs are welcome.
    Thanks

    my out looks as follows.
    "02920  "

  • Problem With DNG Converter

    I just installed the DNG converter and can't get it to work.
    When I first installed it, it let me go to the correct folder one time, but after that one time, when I click the Select Folder button I get this error message:
    "There is no disk in the drive.  Insert a disk into drive
    /Device/HardDrive5/DR15"
    It makes no sense to me.
    I'm running Win 7 64bit

    I get a message like this, sometimes, not with the DNG Converter, but just in general, if I leave my card-reader plugged into my computer after I have removed my card, so the computer sortof sees it but not entirely.
    From your description I would guess that the DNG Converter is remembering the location of your previous conversion and that was on a removable drive or other device, that needs to be plugged in, again.  What was the path for your successful conversion, initially?
    Can you do another conversion from another location or does the error prevent selecting a new location?
