Speed changes cause Final Cut Express 2 to quit

I have a video that runs about a minute over two hours. I wanted to change the speed by adjusting the speed change feature to 102% so as to be able to fit it on a 2-hour dvd.
However, even with my dual G5 (4GB RAM) the app unexpectedly quits before it's even halfway completed rendering.
I'm on version 2.0.3. (Seems like this version of Final Cut Express has more of a problem with Tiger than it did with 10.3.9, BTW)
Any suggestions would be welcome!

A 2% speed reduction is not going to look good. There's no way you can reduce 29.97fps by 2% and produce a frame rate that's compressible with anything like correct frame interpolation. Not without serious expenditure of time, money, and learning, After Effects and ReTimer. You'd be much better off actually cutting five minutes out of your movie. I guarantee if you look hard enough at it you can do it. There's no 2:01:00:00 story that can't be told in 1:58:00:00.

Why does Final Cut Express 4 quit automatically when I open Log and Transfer window?

I'm using a Sony NXCAM and I am editing on a Mac OS X. The clips I have recorded are in MTS format so I understand I must use the Log and Transfer setting to import my clips. I plug the camera into my computer, go into Final Cut Express 4, turn the camera on, and then go into the Log and Transfer window. Once I open that, Final Cut quits and an error message pops up that reads, "Final Cut Express quit unexpectedly." Final Cut quits too fast for me to even click on anything in the Log and Transfer window. I really don't understand why it does this. The only thing I can think of why Final Cut is quitting is because I have over 100 clips on the camera, so maybe that is too much for Final Cut Express 4 to handle. However, I wouldn't think that would be the case. If anyone knows of anything I could do to fix this problem, then please send me a reply. I've looked around the internet to see if anyone else has had this problem, but I haven't found anything. Thank you, any responses will be greatly appreciated!

Shooted videos directly saved to the SD memory card is no problem, the log and transfer window immediately recognizes the sd card and I was able to convert the videos. I will check later today if this were 25p, 50i or 50p footages.
Strangely enough is that transferring the .mts files from the internal memory to the sd card (using the Mac finder, I don't know if it is possible within the camera itself) won’t help, the log and transfer window doesn't the recognizes the transferred files, strange!
I hope that this problem will not occur using Final Cut Pro X, which I will start using soon.
I'm curious what the exact problem will be.

Error: Final Cut Express HD quit unexpectedly.. help????

Ok, It was working great. Then all of a sudden I tried to open FCE HD from my dock icons and it says "The application Final Cut Express quit enexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected." However, this doesn't seem to be true, because now quicktime doesn't work at all, and iMovie will not import anything: audio, video, nothing. I've tried everthing I can think of, I read other discussions here, nothing helped. I even un-intalled and re-installed twice... Can anyone give me a suggestion to fix FCE HD? Thanks. Fat Preacher.

Disconnect all devices from the computer except the keyboard and mouse. Reboot. Trash your preferences and repair permissions and then launch the applications from the Applications folder at the top level of your hard drive. If it still does not launch the OS has been corrupted. I would advise contacting a service center or erasing the disk and reinstalling the operating system and all applications.

Import of AVCHD causes Final Cut Express to crash

I am trying to import clips from AVCHD (Canon HG10). I go to file>log and transfer and select the clip. When I click on Add lip to queue it starts and then Final Cut Express crashes. Is there an update? Am I doing something wrong?
Please help.
I have a 2 x 2.66 dual core intel Xeon computer with 5 gig of RAM.

Lithium plug-in problem? causing Final Cut Pro to quit

I am getting an error saying "The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectctedly. The problem may have been caused by the Lithium plug-in." I have repaired permissions and reinstalled Final Cut, neither helped. I am running OS X Leopard 10.5.2 and Final Cut Pro version 6.0.3.

Graduated Speed Changes In Final Cut 7

How might I make graduated speed change for a clip in Final Cut? What I mean by a graduated speed change is like how a car gradually brakes - well, hopefully I don't want these step downs, where the car would be traveling at 50 mph, then 30, and then 10. There should be a graduated progression of the speed change.

Final Cut Express keeps quitting

I can open Final Cut and movie clips. However, once I play one or mess with any clip I've opened, it will shut down. Sometimes it happens immediately and other times it will happen the second time I play a clip. I've already ensured that my color setting was 'millions' and the problem persists. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've had this program for three months and I can't use it because it shuts down when I try.

Sounds either like the application isn't installed correctly, there's a problem with the media or the drive, or there's a trouble with RAM.

Live Type causes Final Cut to keep quitting.

I have an older project with Live Type files in it. It's always worked fine before. I just moved all of my data to a new hard drive. I've been reconnecting all of my media. But when ever I try to reconnect LiveType files, the application keeps quitting. I've tried deleting preference files, and even reinstalling FCP.
I'm kind of at my wit's end here. Please help!

Final Cut Express 4 "Quits Unexpectedly"

Ive read some threads out there regarding my problem and I have yet to solve my problem. I first tried reinstalling FCE4 but that didn't solve anything. Then I read a thread in which Tom had given directions to delete my preferences. I did that, and it still "quits unexpectedly." This happens at random moments while I am working on a project. If there are any other solutions out there please let me know. Thanks

Has this just started and were you able to use FCE 4 successfully in the past, or are you new to FCE and it has always been that way?
If it has recently started quitting have you installed or updated ANYTHING recently?
Is your video material normal DV or some non-standard format ?
The problem could be in your computer etc. or it could be the way you are using it.
As you have given no details about how everything is set up and exactly how you are working it is almost impossible to suggest anything.
A couple of years ago someone couldn't capture video, but it was only after several days of correspondence that we discovered he was trying to capture it from his STILL camera !

Final Cut Express unexpectedly quits after system update

I've just installed all of my system updates, and now when I try to launch FCE I get an error that says the program has closed unexpectedly. What is going on here?

Sorry to interject, but may I ask why is it better to uninstall an older version before upgrading? Will that cause any problems opening old projects?
And yes, to the original question, I've learned the hard way that FCE is very picky. You have to match the proper OS cat and QT or else it won't work very well. I'm not sure about versions 1 or 3, but thanks to these fine people on the discussion boards I learned that FCE 2 needs no more that 10.4.10 and QT 7.2 I'm upgrading my computer as well and it seems FCE 3.5.1 and 4 will both work on Leopard and the current version of QT. I chose 3.5.1 since it is cheaper on ebay and has better Soundtrack and Livetype features. 3.5.1 is not as future-proof since it might not work with the upcoming Snow Leopard or future QT, but my PowerPC computer won't run Snow Leopard anyway so it doesn't matter to me.

Final Cut Express HD quits suddenly

Hi everybody and anybody. Here is my dilemma. I have had FCE HD for quite a while now and I've produced 5 great videos with it. Yesterday after capturing some footage on my WD Mybook external drive and viewing the footage on my MacBook Pro, FCE quit on me. After re-launching the app, I noticed that my clips in the bin were disconnected. After several failed attempts to re-connect, I gave up for the night. Today, when I attempted to launch FCE HD, all I got was the startup screen and then it just quits! No matter how many times I tried, it failed to launch. I browsed the Apple Discussions and thought I'd found the solution. But after "trashing and repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling, disconnecting and reconnected, I've accomplished nothing. I even did the whole QT thing to no avail. Can someone point me in another direction that will get my dilemma resolved. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Quicktime might have done it. Try uninstalling and reinstalling an earlier version. Make sure you trash the QT receipts:

Final Cut Express 4 quits on startup

Hi, I just bought FCE4 and out of the box it quit on startup. I have not been able to get it to start yet. As fast as I can click the icon to open it I get the "unexpectedly quit" dialog box with the usual reopen/report problem options. Once it happened I checked for an update and updated to 4.0.1 and it happened again. I can open LiveType. I tried deleting everything using the apple support guide I found in another forum and reinstalled/re-updated but still nothing. Software update says everything is up to date. Any ideas?

I had a problem a number of months ago with the video jumping all over the place. I tried to uninstall, reinstall, mess with the settings. Nothing worked. I placed a call to apple support and they told me that the user account that I was using became corrupt.
Create a new user. Install FCE in that new user account and see what happens. It might work but if it doesn't then you can call Apple support.

Final Cut Express HD 3.5 Quits unexpectedly while opening

Hi all. I have Final Cut Express HD 3.5. I bought it several years ago and used it on my Mac Book Pro (2006 model). I bought an iMac a few years later (December 2009). I can't remember what OS the iMac came with, but it's currently running 10.6.8.
I recently was asked to collaborate on a video project, so I installed FCE to use on the project. The installation went just fine, and the software didn't seem to disagree with my system, nor the system with the software.
I then went to open* FCE, and got the following error message:
"Final Cut Express HD quit unexpectedly while using the Impromptu Analysis plug-in."
*Note: this is the first time opening the software on this computer after the first time installing it on this computer.

It tells me that while loading Audio Filters, It comes across a "MOSO: Impromptu Analysis" and somehow doesn't like it.
Live type and Sound track both seem to work fine.
THINGS I HAVE TRIED:
1. the first thing I did was a search of my computer for "Impromptu Analysis," and found a .component (I think) plugin. it wasn't in the traditional audio plugins folder, but within a folder containing the application (Impromptu) in my documents folder My first instinct was "get that thing out of here!!" so I deleted it. problem not solved.
2. Did a complete software update of everything, verify and repaired permissions, and still nothing.
3. uninstalled and reinstalled, and nothing.
4. Ran software update again.
5. reboots between each step.
6. Bid on Final Cut studio 5 on ebay. I've since been outbid (but still watching like a hawk).
What I don't understand is even after deleting the plugin, rebooting and an uninstall and reinstall of FCE, and it's still messing with the plugin.
THINGS I HAVEN'T TRIED
1. upgrading to 4.0 (don't have a disc, and it's not available for a free update, since it's discontinued, is it?)
2. reinstalling the plugin that's causing the issue
3. deleting or resetting the preferences of the AU plugins list. (not sure how to).
my best guess on the problem plug-in is that it is part of an install of the live coding software called Impromptu (http://impromptu.moso.com.au/). But it's blowing my mind as to why it's still messing things up even after I deleted it. I don't think I ever did a proper install of Impromptu, nor did I do a proper uninstall...
If anyone can point me in the right direction, that'd be super swell.

Well never mind everyone. Apparently, Searching your computer for plugins through spotlight doesn't search the plugins folder in either the "Macintosh HD" location or the ~/Library locations.. Go figure.
I went to re-install the trouble plugin, and to my surprise, I still had 2 copies of the plugin installed on my system. I trashed them, as well as the other 15 or so of their brother and sister Impromptu Plugins, and got the software to open! now all I have to do is figure out what codec/setup to use.

Final Cut Express Quit Unexpectedly

Rendering final cut express

Whi is it taking so ling to render any changes in final cut express? It seems like its 1-2 minutes for every second of video. any ideas?

What are your clip properties & sequence settings? If they are mismatched that could cause rendering issues.
Control-click your sequence in the FCE Browser. Select "Item Properties" What does it say for frame size, vid rate and compressor? Do the same for one or more of your clips. Tell us what those settings are.
Also, specifics will help. What model Mac do you have, what versions of OS X and QT? What is the capacity of your hard drive and how much free space is on it?
