Speed changes with REVERSE don't transfer over to Motion on Round Trip
I don't even know if there is a solution to this problem. I have a clip in my FCP timeline that is playing at 80% speed and in REVERSE. When I highlight the clip then "SEND TO MOTION PROJECT," it opens in motion but plays the opposite end of the source footage. It is still playing 80% speed and in reverse, but it's looking at the other end of the footage.
In other words, if I had a 1-minute piece of source footage and 00:01-00:10 of that footage marked in FCP and sent to Motion, Motion is actually looking at 00:50-01:00.
Anybody ever had this happen? How do I fix it?
Even if I try to do the speed change natively in Motion, it still yields the same result in terms of what part of the source footage it's looking at.
In this case, if I wanted to do use the optical flow option, I would do it in Shake because the source footage is an hour long, and Motion has to analyze the ENTIRE source file rather than just the part that's being referenced. (Annoying) Shake does only the part you are using.

FCP7 Speed change with keyframes on motion tab
I am trying to change the speed of my video in FCP7 with keyframes. I am cueing where I want the speed change to begin and clicking on the motion tab in the
viewer. next I change the speed percentage and click a keyframe then I cue on my timeline to where I want the speed to go back to 100% and click the keyframe button in the motion tab. I render it to see it and the whole clip in the timeline is in slow motion. This does not coincide with what I am trying to achieve. Just want to start out 100% speed then go to 50% speed then back to 100% speed then the clip ends. Thanks.that's probably way overkill in terms of the quality of material shot on an iphone. Is that the pixel dimensions of the original file from the iphone?
What's your end use for this material? The web? DVD?
And what are your sequence settings? make the timeline active and hit command-zero. in one of your posts you said 720 30p . 30p is actually 29.97 frames per second.
Because this is a non standard format, you may need to convert them to match your sequence settings. First thing to do is to take them into cinema tools and conform the clips to 29.97. This will slow them down slightly but there is no loss in quality. Each frame remains the same, they are just played slower. It may not work with this format, so you may need to convert them to a standard format as I said above.
If you still have the original files from the iphone, going back to them to do these conversions may be the best way to maintain quality.
If you have a short clip directly from the iphone and would like me to do a quick test of the (hopefully) best workflow, I would then be able to describe it to you concisely.

where is it that you can change the values...I have read that you open the retiming bar in the timeline...didn't see anywhere to change the values..sorry I'm sure it's right in front of me, but?

IPhoto slideshows don't transfer over to Photos?
My iPhoto slideshows are listed under the Photos app, but none of the settings were transferred, or music selections? Any way to recover these?

can anyone offer the smoothest solution to basic speed changes (other then time re-mapping in the Motion tab.
i was curious if there w as a pre-set effect for doing quick ramp ups (and downs).
G5 Mac OS X (10.4.3)The quickest way for basic ramping is, isolate the part you want to speed up/down on the timeline with a couple of cuts, select it, press command(apple)+J and enter a percentage.

Trouble with the round trip from Soundtrack Pro 2 to Final Cut Pro
I have edited a home movie together. I then have sent the sequence to Color for grading and then after completing the Color changes and Rendering. I sent it back to Final Cut Pro. It starts out working fine but during the transfer process it stops at somewhere between 50% and 60%. It is during the "Importing XML Data" phase. It just sits there and does not change and I have to force quit to get out of it. The exact same thing happens when I try to round trip from Soundtrack Pro 2 back to Final Cut Pro. So I am unable to make use of the changes I make in these programs.
This is a round trip process that I have successfully made many times before. Nothing has changed. I am working in Final Cut Studio 2 with the latest updates on an Intel Mac. Any advice on how to remedy this situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.Make sure your easy setup has the correct frame rate for your sequence. Seems crazy but somehow or other fcp assigns a frame rate to audio files. I've found this can sometimes be tricky to get right. Here's what I've done to force the issue. Make sure the easy setup frame rate reflects that of the target sequence in fcp. Create a new project. import the audio in the new project. And then copy the clip from the new project to your main project.

What's I've been doing is exporting the Soundtrack files as AIFF files, then importing them into Final Cut...
It's working... at least well enough. Still seems harder then just being able to go back and forth between the two applications.

Thank you in advance.Hard to say where the XML interpretation is getting lost... That it stalls at 60% could mean a number of things. If you have a cuts and dissolves simple timeline, that should not be an issue. Something is causing a corruption, though and it could be a media type, a filename (which can break folder paths), a filter or motion tab which generates an invalid value, or a recompression that violates the sequence settings.
At this point, I start cutting up the original sequence and roundtripping it until it works, or breaks and then try to figure out what's different. Often there's something hidden like an imbedded recompressor in a nested sequence or something like that, that will allow COLOR will load, grade, render, and then not know what to do to re-write the export XML, or re-imbed it illegally.
There are a lot of things that FCP does that editors take for granted that COLOR utterly cannot cope with -- but may deceptively carry along and then crash on the next step.

TC rate changing on round trip
I am sending an aiff audio file to STP from FCP. When I finishing processing the clip and save it and go back to my timeline in FCP, the TC rate has somehow gone to 30 instead of 25. (I am woking in PAL). I noticed because the audio waveform pattern on the clip does not corrispond to the actual audio. This did not occur in the older version of STP. Any ideas? My prefs in STP are all set to 25.
I'm beginning to isolate the problem. Your post in fact gave me other ideas and tests to run to try to hone in on the issue. The audio being sent to STP was a translation so only an aiff audio file. The frequency being 48Khz every step of the way. Out of curiosity I sent a clip that I had digtized from digibeta (10 bit uncompressed with 48 KHz audio) to STP roundtripping as with the audio only clip and it was fine. No problem at all - no change in TC rates. So... I tried with a clip of music downloaded from a professional music library site (wav, 48KHz). I dropped the music onto the timeline and roundtripped thhrough STP. Same Frame rate change as before and green render line up top. Frequency stays constant at 48KHz. So the problem is occuring on audio only clips.
And it is happening only since I upgraded. I went back to a December project with the same types of files which had been round tripped and they are file. I opened them in STP, saved the file and back in FCP the green render line is back and Frame rate is changed.
So there is obviously something that STP is doing to those files automatically. -
I recently changed my Apple ID but it did not transfer over to my iCloud account. How do I change my iCloud ID? The password for the new Apple ID does not work since the iCloud default user name is imbedded in the login box. The login popup for iCloud will not go away so I cannot get into my iPad since it pops up as soon as I turn the device on and re-occurs every few seconds.
You have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPad on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPad when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I've had problems with transfer speeds changing from 54mbps all the way down to 24Mbps. I've tried setting the transfer rate to 54Mbps manually but this doesn't seem to help. The wireless speed status continues to drop and rise. I'm currently using a WPA. Does this type of password affect speed any and should I change it so I can increase my speed? I'm having the majorority of my problems when using online games and I get a "there's a problem with your connection" message. The wireless is currently set to G-only. Is there anything else I can do to increase the speed for such applications? Thanks!
first off , ensure the following wireless settings
wireless channel - 1 or 11
beacon interval - 50
RTS and Fragmentation threshold - 2304
if all these are correct , ensure that the router has the latest firmware..
if still having problems , i suspect it is the wireless card ...try updating the drivers of the card... -
I am used to that when I open an image in Bridge it will be opened in PS, with all preferenses I have done to the image. Now it opens in PS but without any changes i have don e in Bridge. Also when I open a new image I want it to be opened in Camera Raw automatically, both if a Jpeg or Raw picture.

I bought a new mac and my music in itunes didn't transfer over from my old cpu. Most of it was put on with cd's I have. Can I transfer the music from my I-phone to itunes on my mac?
It sounds like there's something amiss with either your ID or the new system you're using. I've been using iTM on a Win7 and OSX SL system and have been able to upload and download to the Cloud on both. I've been using them interchangeably for the last week or so.
I would also recommennd giving Apple support a call, to see what they say. -
The first time I synced my iphone 4 with my mac, I didn't realize that all of my photos from the iphoto library would transfer over to the phone (more than 3,000). Now, I need to remove some, as they are taking up too much space. I cannot figure out how to remove them from the phone. I tried to uncheck boxes and sync again, but I get a message that there is no room on the iphone. I've read as many articles as I can find, but still cannot manage this. Thanks for any help.

Adobe Media Encoder CS4 Causing Jerky Playback with Speed Changes
Here is an Matrox AVI that was captured in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Watching the edited clip with a speed change of 600% looked fine when played in Premiere Pro CS4.
When I export the clip using Adobe Media Encoder CS4 as MPEG2 Blu-ray with a preset of 1440 x 1080i High Quality playback is very jerky. An export of the same clip with normal speed looks great??
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
